• Maintain proper clearances from combustible materials. Keep the top at least 10 feet (305 cm) away, sides at least 6 feet (183 cm) away, and front at least 10 feet (305 cm) away from any combustible materials.

• Use only the electrical power (voltage and frequency) specified on the model plate of the REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA. Always use a three-prong, grounded outlet and extension cord.

• Do not move or service the heater while it is hot or operating.

• Never block the air inlet (rear) or air outlet (front) of the heater.

• Never use ductwork in front of the heater.

4. Fill the fuel tank with K-1 Kerosene or an approved fuel type.

5. Locate the heater on a stable and level surface.

For optimal performance of your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA, it is important to use the correct fuel. This heater is designed to run on K-1 Kerosene. You may also use #1 fuel oil if K-1 Kerosene is not available. Please be aware of the following fuel guidelines:

Fuels you MUST NOT use in your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA:

• Never use gasoline, crankcase drainings, naphtha, paint thinners, alcohol, or any other flammable oils.

• Using these fuels will cause an uncontrollable flare-up which can result in severe burns or death.

• Never use a fuel that is heavier than #1 grade fuel oil, such as #2 fuel oil. Use of heavier fuels will cause the heater to produce more smoke and soot.

When storing fuel, only store K-1 Kerosene in a blue container that is clearly marked “Kerosene”. Never store kerosene in a red container, as red containers are associated with gasoline. Store fuel away from living spaces and direct sunlight.

Proper ventilation is critical when using the REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA to avoid the dangers of indoor air pollution and carbon monoxide poisoning. Always provide a fresh air opening in the heated space of at least three square feet (2,800 sq. cm) for every 100,000 BTU/Hr of heater output. For the REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA, which is rated at 175,000 BTU/Hr, you must provide a fresh air opening of at least 5.25 square feet.

For example, you can achieve this with:

• A two-car garage door raised six inches.

• A single-car garage door raised nine inches.

• Two, thirty-inch windows raised fifteen inches.

To start your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA, follow these steps precisely:

1. Fill the fuel tank with K-1 Kerosene or #1 Fuel Oil. Make sure the fuel cap is securely in place.

2. Plug the power cord into a three-prong, grounded 120 Volt, 60 Hz outlet.

3. Move the Power Switch to the “ON” position. The indicator lamp will light, and the heater will start within a few seconds.

NOTE: On first ignition or after refueling, you may hear a grinding sound just before ignition. This is the fuel pump priming the system with kerosene and is normal. The heater may not start on the first try if the fuel line has air in it. If so, cycle the Power Switch to “OFF” and then back to “ON”. The heater should ignite after about ten seconds of operation. If it does not start, wait two minutes and try again. The heater may need to go through several start cycles to clear the air from the fuel line.

To stop the REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA, simply move the Power Switch to the “OFF” position. The combustion will stop, and the cooling cycle will begin, which lasts approximately 3 minutes.

After the cooling cycle is complete, the fan will stop, and it is safe to unplug the heater. Unplugging the heater before the cooling cycle is complete can cause overheating and potential damage to the heater and heat chamber.

To restart your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA after it has been shut down, follow these steps:

1. Wait for the cooling cycle to complete (approximately 3 minutes after shutting it off). The fan will stop running when the cycle is finished.

2. Wait an additional two minutes after the cooling cycle has finished.

3. Repeat the “TO START HEATER” procedure.

Proper long-term storage of your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA will ensure it is ready for the next use. Follow these steps:

1. Unscrew the fuel cap.

2. Using an approved siphon, remove the kerosene from the fuel tank.

3. Using a small amount of kerosene, rinse and swirl the fuel inside the tank.

4. Empty the tank completely.

5. Store the heater in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from the reach of children.

IMPORTANT: Never store leftover kerosene over the summer. Using old fuel can damage the heater.

The fuel tank of your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA should be flushed every 200 hours of operation or as needed. To flush the tank:

1. Empty the fuel tank completely.

2. Pour about a half gallon of fresh K-1 Kerosene into the tank.

3. Replace the fuel cap and swirl the kerosene around inside the tank.

4. Tip the heater over so the kerosene can pour out of the fuel opening. Be careful not to spill fuel on the outside of the heater.

5. Repeat the process if necessary.

The fuel filter on your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA should be cleaned at least twice per heating season. Clean it more often if fuel contamination is an issue. To clean the fuel filter:

1. Remove the fuel line from the fuel filter neck.

2. Gently pull the fuel filter up and out of the tank.

3. Rinse the filter with fresh, clean K-1 Kerosene.

4. Place the filter back into the tank and reconnect the fuel line.

The nozzles on your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA should be cleaned at least once per heating season, or more often if needed. To clean the nozzles:

1. Unplug the heater and make sure it is cool.

2. Remove the top shell of the heater.

3. Remove the fan by loosening the set screw that holds it onto the motor shaft.

4. Remove the air and fuel lines from the burner head assembly.

5. Remove the burner head by unscrewing the four screws that hold it to the motor.

6. Carefully remove the burner head. Be cautious not to lose the small plastic washer on the motor shaft.

7. Blow compressed air through the face of the nozzle. This should dislodge any particles.

8. If the nozzle is still clogged, unscrew it from the nozzle holder and soak it in a solvent like alcohol or paint thinner to loosen particles. Blow compressed air through the nozzle again.

9. Re-install the nozzle into the holder and reassemble the burner head in the reverse order of removal.

To ensure efficient operation, clean and re-gap the spark plug on your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA every 600 hours of operation, or replace it as needed. Follow these steps:

1. Unplug the heater and allow it to cool completely.

2. Remove the top shell of the heater.

3. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug.

4. Remove the spark plug from the burner head.

5. Clean the spark plug terminals with a wire brush.

6. Re-gap the terminals to 0.140 inches (3.5 mm).

7. Re-install the spark plug and reconnect the wire.

8. Replace the top shell of the heater.

The photocell on your REMINGTON HH-175T-KFA should be cleaned at least once per heating season, or more if the heater is cycling on and off. To clean the photocell:

1. Unplug the heater and ensure it is cool.

2. Remove the top shell of the heater.

3. The photocell is located on the side of the burner. Remove it from its bracket.

4. Clean the photocell lens with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.

5. Re-install the photocell into its bracket and replace the top shell.
