Please follow these safety guidelines when using your PHILIPS AJB3552:

• The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing.

• Do not place any sources of danger on the apparatus (e.g. liquid filled objects, lighted candles).

• Never insert objects into the ventilation slots or other openings on the apparatus.

• Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

• Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

• Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

• Where the plug of the Direct Plug-in Adapter is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable.

With the PHILIPS AJB3552, you can:

• listen to FM or DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radio

• know the time

• be waken up by DAB+/FM radio or buzzer alarm.

The unit also offers Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB) to enrich sound.

Check and identify the contents of your package:

Here are the functions of the main controls:

• BACK: Return to the previous menu or cancel a selection.

• INFO/MENU: Access the DAB+/FM menu or display DAB+/RDS information.

• DBB: Turn on/off dynamic bass enhancement.

• SLEEP: Set the sleep timer.

• ◀ / ▶: Navigate through the DAB+/FM menu, select a preset radio station, or scan for the previous/next radio station.

• Display panel: Shows status information.

• Light sensor: For automatic backlight brightness adjustment.

• MINUTE/VOLUME dial: Set the minute for the clock/alarm or adjust the volume.

• HOUR/TUNING +/- dial: Set the hour for the clock/alarm or tune to a radio station.

• SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME switch: Switch between setting the alarm, setting the time, or viewing the clock.

• REPEAT ALARM•SELECT button: Repeat an alarm (snooze) or confirm a selection.

• ALARM ON/OFF: Turn the alarm timer on or off.

• RADIO ON/OFF: Turn the radio on or off.

• SOURCE: Select the DAB+ or FM source.

• AUTOSCAN: Scan for radio stations and store favorite stations in memory.

• DC IN: Port to connect power.

• FOR SOFTWARE UPDATE ONLY port: Update software via USB connector (if available).

For better reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the pig-tail antenna. To prevent interference, position the antenna as far as possible from any other radiation sources.

Before connecting the AC adaptor, ensure that you have completed all other connections.

Connect the provided power adaptor to the DC IN socket on the back of the unit and then plug it into a wall outlet.

Caution:

• Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back or underside of the apparatus.

• Risk of electric shock! When you unplug the AC adaptor, always pull the plug from the socket. Never pull the cord.

1. In standby mode, rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME switch to the SET TIME position. The hour and minute digits will begin to blink.

2. Rotate the HOUR dial to set the hour.

3. Rotate the MINUTE dial to set the minute.

4. Rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME switch to the CLOCK position to confirm.

In standby mode, press RADIO ON/OFF to turn on the radio. The last listened DAB+ or FM station will broadcast automatically.

To turn off the radio, press RADIO ON/OFF again.

You can also turn on the radio by pressing SOURCE repeatedly.

Initial Scan:

1. Press SOURCE repeatedly to select DAB mode. [FULL SCAN] will be displayed.

2. Press SELECT to start the full scan. The unit will store all available DAB+ radio stations and then broadcast the first available one. The station list is memorized, so the full scan does not need to be repeated each time.

Tune from the station list:

1. In DAB+ mode, rotate the TUNING +/- dial to navigate the available DAB+ stations.

2. Press SELECT to confirm your choice.

In DAB+ mode, press and hold AUTO SCAN for 3 seconds. The unit will scan for all available DAB+ radio stations and broadcast the first available station.

Tip: New stations and services are added to the DAB+ broadcast periodically. To make them available, perform a full scan regularly.

You can store up to 20 DAB+ radio stations in preset channels.

1. Tune to a DAB+ radio station you wish to store.

2. Press AUTO SCAN. The preset channel number is displayed.

3. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly to select a preset number from 1 to 20.

4. Press SELECT to confirm.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 to store other stations.

Note: To remove a pre-stored DAB+ radio station, simply store another station in its place.

1. In DAB+ mode, press and hold INFO/MENU for 3 seconds.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ to select [Manual tune], then press SELECT.

3. Rotate the TUNING +/- dial to navigate to a DAB+ radio frequency.

4. Press SELECT to confirm. Searching will start.

5. When searching is complete, press SELECT again to start playing.

1. Press ◀ / ▶ to select a preset DAB+ radio channel.

2. Press SELECT to confirm.

While listening to DAB+ radio, press INFO repeatedly to scroll through the following information (if available):

• Dynamic Label Segment (DLS)

• Signal strength

• Program type (PTY)

• Ensemble Name

• Channel and frequency

• Signal error rate

• Bit rate and audio status

• Date

You can remove all invalid stations from the available DAB+ station list.

1. In DAB+ mode, press and hold INFO/MENU for 3 seconds.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly until [Prune] is displayed.

3. Press SELECT to confirm. [No][Yes] is displayed.

4. Press ◀ / ▶ to select [Yes].

5. Press SELECT. All invalid stations are removed.

DRC adds or removes a degree of compensation for the differences in the dynamic range between radio stations. To change the setting:

1. In DAB+ mode, press and hold INFO/MENU for over 3 seconds.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ until [DRC] is displayed.

3. Press SELECT to confirm.

4. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly to select an option:

• [DRC off]: DRC is switched off.

• [DRC high]: DRC is switched on. Recommended for noisy environments.

• [DRC low]: DRC is set to half normal level.

5. Press SELECT to confirm the selection.

1. Press SOURCE repeatedly to select the FM tuner.

2. To automatically tune to a station with strong reception, press and hold ◀ or ▶.

3. To manually tune to a weak station, rotate the TUNING +/- dial until you find optimal reception.

In FM radio mode, press and hold AUTO SCAN for 3 seconds. The unit will store up to 20 FM stations with a strong signal into presets 1-20. The station stored in channel 1 will start broadcasting automatically.

1. Tune to an FM radio station.

2. Press AUTO SCAN. The preset channel number is displayed.

3. Press ◀ / ▶ to select a channel from 1-20.

4. Press SELECT. The selected FM radio station is saved in the channel.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 to store other stations.

Press ◀ / ▶ to select a preset number. The station will start to broadcast in a few seconds.

Radio Data System (RDS) is a service that sends additional broadcast information with FM stations. If you listen to an FM station with an RDS signal, ‘RDS’ is displayed. Press INFO/MENU to display RDS information such as PTY (program type) and station name.

You can select whether the radio searches for only strong stations or all stations.

1. Press INFO/MENU for over 3 seconds.

2. Press ◀ or ▶ until [Scan setting] is displayed, then press SELECT.

3. Press ◀ or ▶ to select an option:

• [Strong stations only]: Only stations with strong signals can be searched.

• [All stations]: Stations with both strong and weak signals can be searched.

4. Press SELECT to confirm.

1. In DAB+ or FM mode, press INFO/MENU for 3 seconds to display the system menu.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly until [System] is displayed.

3. Press SELECT to confirm.

4. You can now navigate through the various system settings. Repeat steps to select an option and adjust it.

5. Press BACK to exit.

1. Enter the system setting menu.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly until [Time] is displayed, then press SELECT.

3. Press ◀ / ▶ to select an option, then press SELECT to confirm.

4. To exit, press BACK.

1. Enter the system setting menu.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly until [Backlight] is displayed, then press SELECT.

3. Press ◀ / ▶ to select an option, then press SELECT to confirm.

4. To exit, press BACK.

Software upgrades may be available for your radio. To update the software, follow these steps strictly:

1. In FM/DAB+ mode, enter the system setting menu.

2. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly until [Software Upgrade] is displayed.

3. Press SELECT to confirm.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the upgrade.

Note: If an upgrade is interrupted by accident, you must power off the radio and reinstall the software; otherwise, your radio may not work normally.

Setting the Alarm Time:

1. Make sure the clock is set correctly.

2. In standby mode, rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME switch to the SET ALARM position. The alarm icon blinks.

3. Rotate the HOUR dial to set the hour.

4. Rotate the MINUTE dial to set the minute.

5. Rotate the SET ALARM/CLOCK/SET TIME switch to the CLOCK position to confirm.

Adjusting Alarm Settings (Sound, Frequency, Volume, Duration):

1. Press RADIO ON/OFF to enter standby mode if necessary.

2. Press INFO/MENU for over 3 seconds. [Alarm Wizard] is displayed.

3. Press ◀ / ▶ repeatedly to select the alarm sound source:

• [Source Buzzer]: Select buzzer as alarm sound.

• [Source DAB]: Select the last listened DAB+ radio as alarm sound.

• [Source FM]: Select the last listened FM radio as alarm sound.

4. Press SELECT to confirm. The sub-menu for frequency is displayed.

5. Press ◀ / ▶ to select the alarm frequency ([Daily], [Weekends], [Weekdays], or [Once]), then press SELECT.

6. If you selected radio as the alarm source, [last listened] is displayed. Press SELECT to confirm. A volume bar is displayed.

7. Press ◀ / ▶ to select the volume of the alarm sound, then press SELECT to confirm.

8. Press ◀ / ▶ to select the alarm duration ([15 minutes], [30 minutes], [45 minutes], or [60 minutes]), then press SELECT to confirm. The unit takes a few minutes to save the setting.

Press the ALARM ON/OFF button repeatedly to activate or deactivate the alarm timer. [Alarm On] or [Alarm Off] will be displayed accordingly.

When the alarm sounds, press REPEAT ALARM•SELECT repeatedly to select a snooze interval:

• [Snooze 5 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 5 minutes.

• [Snooze 10 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 10 minutes.

• [Snooze 15 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 15 minutes.

• [Snooze 20 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 20 minutes.

• [Snooze 25 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 25 minutes.

• [Snooze 30 minutes]: The alarm repeats in 30 minutes. (This option is only available when the alarm duration is set to 45 or 60 minutes).

When the time is selected, a snooze countdown is displayed.

When the alarm sounds, press ALARM ON/OFF. The alarm stops, but the alarm settings remain.

The sleep timer allows the unit to switch to standby automatically after a set period. Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to select a time period:

• [15 minutes]

• [30 minutes]

• [45 minutes]

• [60 minutes]

• [90 minutes]

When the sleep timer is activated, zZz is displayed.

To deactivate the sleep timer, press SLEEP repeatedly until [Sleep off] is displayed.

Press the DBB (Dynamic Bass Boost) button repeatedly to turn the dynamic bass enhancement on or off.

General information

• Ensure that the AC power plug of the unit is connected properly.

• Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.

• Adjust the volume using the VOLUME dial.

• Disconnect and reconnect the AC power plug, then turn on the unit again.

• Increase the distance between the unit and other electrical appliances.

• Fully extend and adjust the position of the pig-tail antenna.

• Set the clock correctly.

• Switch on the timer using the ALARM ON/OFF button.

• Power has been interrupted or the power plug has been disconnected.

• Reset the clock/timer.
