To ensure safe operation of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS, please adhere to the following warnings and cautions:

Warning:

• Do not attempt to take the camera apart or modify it. High voltages are present within the camera, posing a danger of electric shock.

• If the inside of the camera becomes exposed (e.g., after being dropped), do not touch the exposed portions to avoid electric shock.

• Wrapping the strap around your neck is dangerous. Ensure small children do not hang the strap around their necks.

• If irregularities such as smoke or a strange odor occur, stop use immediately, remove the battery or AC adapter, and contact a PENTAX Service Center.

• Store the battery out of the reach of small children to prevent electric shock from ingestion.

• If battery leakage contacts your eyes, it may cause loss of sight. Flush your eyes with clean water immediately and seek medical attention. Do not rub them.

Caution:

• Do not place your finger on the flash when it is discharging to avoid burns.

• Do not discharge the flash while it is touching clothing to prevent discoloration.

• Some parts of the camera may heat up during use. Avoid holding these parts for long periods to prevent low-temperature burns.

• If the LCD is damaged, be careful of glass fragments and avoid contact with the liquid crystal.

• If using the camera causes itching, rashes, or blisters, stop use immediately and seek medical attention.

• Only use the specified D-LI92 battery with this camera. Use of other batteries may cause an explosion or fire.

• Do not disassemble the battery, short its contacts, or dispose of it in a fire.

• Remove the battery immediately if it becomes hot or starts to smoke.

Before using your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS in or near water, follow these precautions to maintain its waterproof performance:

Check Before Going Near Water:

• Inspect the rubber seals on the battery/card and terminal covers for any cracks or scratches.

• Ensure there are no foreign objects (like dust, sand, hair, lint, or liquid) on the rubber seals or the surfaces they contact. Wipe off any foreign objects with a clean, lint-free cloth.

• Close the battery/card and terminal covers properly until they click. If they are not securely closed, water may enter and damage the camera.

Be Careful Near the Water:

• Do not open the battery/card or terminal covers near water or with wet hands. Wait until the camera is completely dry.

• The camera will sink if dropped in water. Always attach the strap and slip it over your wrist.

• The front of the lens is protected by glass. Keep this glass clean, as any dirt or water will affect picture quality.

Precautions When Using the Camera in the Water:

• Do not use the camera deeper than 10 meters (32.8 ft) underwater.

• Do not use the camera underwater for more than 120 minutes consecutively.

• Do not open the battery/card or terminal covers while underwater.

• Do not use the camera in hot water or hot springs.

• Avoid applying excessive force to the camera, such as diving into water with it, as this may compromise waterproof performance.

• Avoid leaving the camera on sand at the beach, which can cause it to exceed operating temperatures or block the speaker/microphone.

• Avoid getting sunscreen or sun oil on the camera, as it can cause discoloration. If oil gets on the camera, wash it off immediately with warm water.

After using your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS in water, especially in the sea, follow these steps to maintain its condition and waterproof performance:

1. Do not open the battery/card cover or terminal cover if the camera is wet. Wipe off any water with a clean, lint-free cloth first.

2. If you need to open the covers, be aware that the inside surface may be wet. Wipe off any water from the covers.

3. If the camera is very dirty or has been used in seawater, ensure it is turned off and the covers are firmly closed. Then, rinse it under running tap water or leave it in a bowl of clean water for a short time (2 or 3 minutes).

4. After washing the camera, dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth.

5. Wipe off any dirt or sand from the waterproof packing and the packing contact surfaces. Damage to these surfaces can compromise the camera’s waterproof performance.

6. Avoid cleaning with agents such as soapy water, mild detergents, or alcohol, as these can compromise the waterproof performance.

Note: To maintain the waterproof performance of the camera, it is recommended to have the waterproof packing changed once a year by a PENTAX Service Center (a charge will be made). The camera’s accessories are not waterproof.

You can attach either the standard strap or the carabiner strap to your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS.

To attach the standard strap (O-ST104):

1. Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug on the camera.

2. Pass the other end of the strap through the loop you just created and pull it tight.

To attach the carabiner strap (O-ST117/O-ST118):

1. Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug on the camera.

2. Fix the end of the strap to the stopper.

Be sure to adjust the position of the protective rubber rings on the carabiner to cushion any impact against the camera’s display.

Use the supplied battery charger (D-BC92) to charge the rechargeable lithium-ion battery (D-LI92) for your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS.

1. Connect the supplied AC plug cord to the battery charger.

2. Plug the AC plug cord into a power outlet.

3. Place the battery into the battery charger with the PENTAX logo facing up. The charging indicator will light up to show that charging is in progress.

4. When charging is complete, the charging indicator will turn off. This takes about 120 minutes (max).

5. Remove the battery from the charger.

Note: Only charge the D-LI92 battery with the supplied D-BC92 charger. The appropriate ambient temperature for charging is 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).

Follow these steps to install and remove the battery in your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS.

To Install the Battery:

1. Open the battery/card cover. Press the lock lever in the direction indicated (①), slide the cover (②), and open it (③).

2. Use the side of the battery to press the battery lock lever (in direction ④) and insert the battery with the PENTAX logo pointing toward the lens. Push the battery in until it locks in place.

3. Close the battery/card cover. While lightly pressing the cover, slide it in the opposite direction of arrow ② until it clicks, confirming it is securely closed.

To Remove the Battery:

1. Open the battery/card cover as described above.

2. Press the battery lock lever towards direction ④. The battery will be ejected. Be careful not to drop it.

You can check the battery level of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS by the indicator on the display. The meanings are as follows:

Your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS uses SD, SDHC, or SDXC Memory Cards. Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the card.

To Install the SD Memory Card:

1. Open the battery/card cover by pressing the lock lever and sliding the cover open.

2. Insert the SD Memory Card into the socket with the label facing toward the front of the camera (the side with the lens).

3. Push the card in all the way until it clicks into place.

4. Close the battery/card cover securely until it clicks.

To Remove the SD Memory Card:

1. Open the battery/card cover.

2. Push the card into the socket once to eject it.

3. Pull the card out.

Note: Always allow the camera to dry completely before changing the SD Memory Card. Be sure to use the camera to format a new card or one that has been used in other devices.

Turning the Camera On:

Press the power switch. The camera will turn on, and both the power lamp and the display will illuminate.

Turning the Camera Off:

Press the power switch again. The camera will turn off, and both the power lamp and the display will turn off.

Starting Up in Playback Mode:

To view images without entering capture mode first, press and hold the Playback (▶) button while pressing the power switch. The camera will start up directly in playback mode.

When you turn on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS for the first time, you will be prompted to set the language, date, and time.

Setting the Display Language:

1. When the [Language] screen appears, use the four-way controller (▲▼◀▶) to choose your desired display language.

2. Press the OK button. The [Initial Setting] screen will appear.

Setting the Hometown, Date, and Time:

1. On the [Initial Setting] screen, you can set your Hometown and DST (Daylight Saving Time). Use the four-way controller to navigate and make selections. Press OK to confirm.

2. Press the down arrow (▼) on the four-way controller twice to select [Settings complete] and press the OK button.

3. The [Date Adjustment] screen appears. Use the four-way controller to select the date format (e.g., mm/dd/yy), the time format (24h or 12h), and to set the correct date and time.

4. Navigate to each field (month, day, year, hour, minute) using the ◀▶ buttons and change the values using the ▲▼ buttons.

5. After setting the time, navigate to [Settings complete] and press the OK button to confirm.

In Capture Mode, the buttons on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS have the following functions:

• Power switch: Turns the camera on and off.

• Shutter release button: Press halfway to focus; press fully to take a picture or start/stop recording.

• ◄ / ► button: Changes the captured area (zoom).

• Playback (▶) button: Switches to Playback mode.

• MENU button: Displays the [Rec. Mode] menu.

• 🙂 button: Switches the Face Detection function (On, Smile Capture, Self-portrait Assist, Off).

• Green / 🗑 button: Switches to Green (basic) mode or calls up an assigned function.

• OK/DISPLAY button: Changes the information on the display.

• Four-way controller:

– ▲: Changes the drive mode (Self-timer, Continuous Shooting, etc.).

– ▼: Displays the Capture Mode Palette.

– ◀: Changes the flash mode.

– ▶: Changes the focus mode.

You can easily switch between taking pictures (Capture Mode) and viewing them (Playback Mode) on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS.

To Switch from Capture Mode to Playback Mode:

Press the Playback (▶) button. The camera will switch to Playback mode and display the last image taken.

To Switch from Playback Mode to Capture Mode:

Press the Playback (▶) button again, or press the shutter release button halfway. The camera will switch back to Capture mode, ready to take a picture.

Follow these steps to take a still picture with your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS using the default settings:

1. Press the power switch to turn the camera on. The camera will start in Still Picture Capture mode.

2. Compose your shot by looking at the display. The focus frame in the middle indicates the area of automatic focusing.

3. Use the zoom button (◄ / ►) to change the captured area. Press ► (Tele) to enlarge the subject or ◄ (Wide) to widen the area.

4. Press the shutter release button halfway. The camera will focus on the subject. The focus frame will turn green when the subject is in focus. In dark situations, the camera may emit a Focus Assist light.

5. Press the shutter release button fully to take the picture. The flash will discharge automatically if needed. The image will appear on the display temporarily (Instant Review) and then be saved.

Your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS has various shooting modes for different situations. You can select one from the Capture Mode Palette.

1. While in Capture mode, press the down arrow (▼) on the four-way controller.

2. The Capture Mode Palette appears. Use the four-way controller (▲▼◀▶) to navigate and choose a shooting mode. A guide for the selected mode is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

3. Press the OK button. The selected shooting mode is set, and the camera returns to the capture screen.

The following modes are available:

You can record movies with sound using your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 GPS.

1. Press the down arrow (▼) on the four-way controller to open the Capture Mode Palette.

2. Use the four-way controller to select Movie mode (movie camera icon) and press the OK button.

3. Use the zoom button (◄ / ►) to frame your subject.

4. Press the shutter release button fully to start recording. The REC indicator will blink on the display.

5. Press the shutter release button fully again to stop recording.

Recording will continue until the memory is full, the file size reaches 2 GB, or you stop it manually. The flash does not discharge in Movie mode.

To Play Back Still Pictures:

1. Press the Playback (▶) button. The last taken image appears on the display.

2. Use the four-way controller (◀▶) to view the previous or next image.

To Play Back a Movie:

1. Enter Playback mode and use the four-way controller (◀▶) to select the movie you want to play. Movie files are indicated by a movie camera icon.

2. Press the up arrow (▲) on the four-way controller to start playback.

3. During playback, you can use the four-way controller to pause (▲), stop (▼), play in reverse (◀), or fast-forward (▶). The zoom buttons (◄ / ►) adjust the volume.

You can delete single images, multiple images, or all images at once.

To Delete a Single Image:

1. In Playback mode, use the four-way controller (◀▶) to display the image you want to delete.

2. Press the Delete (🗑) button. A confirmation screen appears.

3. Use the up arrow (▲) to select [Delete].

4. Press the OK button. The image is deleted.

To Delete Selected Images:

1. In Playback mode, press the Wide (◄) button once or twice to enter 6-image or 12-image display.

2. Press the Delete (🗑) button.

3. Use the four-way controller to navigate to each image you want to delete and press the OK button to mark it with a check.

4. Press the Delete (🗑) button again. A confirmation screen appears.

5. Use the up arrow (▲) to select [Select & Delete] and press the OK button.

To Delete All Images:

1. In Playback mode, press the MENU button to open the [Setting] menu.

2. Use the four-way controller (▲▼) to select [Delete All] and press the right arrow (▶).

3. Select [Delete All] and press the OK button. All unprotected images and sound files will be deleted.

Formatting deletes all data, including protected images, from the SD Memory Card or the built-in memory. Be sure to format a new memory card, or one that has been used in another device, with this camera.

1. Press the MENU button in Playback (▶) mode. The [Setting] menu appears. (If in Capture mode, press MENU then the right arrow (▶) once).

2. Use the four-way controller (▲▼) to select [Format].

3. Press the right arrow (▶). The [Format] screen appears.

4. Use the up arrow (▲) to select [Format].

5. Press the OK button. Formatting begins.

Note: To format the built-in memory, you must first remove the SD Memory Card from the camera.

Before connecting, ensure you have installed the provided software from the CD-ROM and set the [USB Connection] mode in the camera’s [Setting] menu to [MSC] (unless otherwise specified).

Connecting to a Windows PC or Macintosh:

1. Turn on your computer.

2. Turn your camera off.

3. Connect the camera to the computer using the provided USB cable (I-USB7). Ensure the arrow mark on the cable terminal faces the front of the camera.

4. Turn your camera on.

5. The computer will recognize the camera. On Windows, an “AutoPlay” screen may appear. On a Macintosh, a [NO_NAME] drive icon will appear on the desktop.

You can now use the installed software or your computer’s file browser to transfer images.
