Caution:

• Avoid placing your finger on the flash when it discharges to prevent burns.

• Do not discharge the flash while it is touching clothing to avoid discoloration.

• Some parts of the camera may heat up during use. Avoid holding these parts for extended periods to prevent low-temperature burns.

• If the LCD screen is damaged, be careful of glass fragments and avoid contact with the liquid crystal on your skin, in your eyes, or in your mouth.

• If you experience itching, rashes, or blisters from using the camera, stop use immediately and seek medical attention.

For your safety, follow these guidelines when using the battery charger and AC adapter with your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1:

Warning:

• Only use the battery charger and AC adapter specifically developed for this product, with the specified voltage of 100-240V AC. Using other chargers or adapters can cause fire, electric shock, or camera breakdown.

• Do not disassemble or modify the charger or adapter.

• If smoke or a strange odor is generated, discontinue use immediately and consult a PENTAX Service Center.

• If water gets inside the product, consult a PENTAX Service Center.

• During a thunderstorm, unplug the AC plug cord and stop using the charger or adapter.

• Wipe any dust off the AC plug cord plug to prevent a potential fire hazard.

Caution:

• Do not place heavy objects on the AC plug cord or allow it to be damaged by bending or being dropped on. If the cord is damaged, consult a PENTAX Service Center.

• Do not touch or short the output terminals of the product while it is plugged in.

• Do not handle the AC plug cord with wet hands.

• Do not drop the product or subject it to strong impacts.

• Only use the battery charger to charge a rechargeable lithium-ion battery D-LI92. Attempting to charge other batteries can cause overheating, explosion, or charger failure.

Please observe the following safety precautions when handling the D-LI92 battery for your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1:

Warning:

• Keep the battery out of the reach of small children to prevent electric shock if placed in their mouths.

• If battery leakage comes into contact with your eyes, flush them with clean water immediately and seek medical attention. Do not rub your eyes.

Caution:

• Use only the specified D-LI92 battery. Using other batteries may cause an explosion or fire.

• Do not disassemble the battery, as this may lead to an explosion or leakage.

• If the battery becomes hot or starts to smoke, remove it from the camera immediately, being careful not to burn yourself.

• Keep metal objects like wires and hairpins away from the positive (+) and negative (-) contacts of the battery.

• Do not short-circuit the battery or dispose of it in a fire, as this can cause an explosion or fire.

• If battery leakage contacts your skin or clothes, wash the affected area thoroughly with water to prevent irritation.

To ensure the longevity and proper functioning of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, follow these care instructions:

Before Starting Use:

• When traveling, take the Worldwide Service Network listing with you for assistance abroad.

• If the camera has not been used for a long time, test it to ensure it is working properly before taking important pictures.

• The lens is not interchangeable or removable.

About the Battery and Battery Charger:

• Storing a fully charged battery, especially in high temperatures, may decrease its performance.

• If the camera is not used for a long time with the battery inserted, it will over-discharge and shorten its service life.

• It is recommended to charge the battery a day before or on the day of use.

• The supplied AC plug cord is for exclusive use with the D-BC92 battery charger.

Cautions when Carrying and Using the Camera:

• Avoid hot and humid places. Be particularly careful with vehicles, which can get very hot inside.

• Protect the camera from substantial vibrations, shocks, or pressure to prevent damage and maintain waterproof performance.

• The operating temperature range is -10°C to 40°C (14°F to 104°F).

• To prevent condensation from rapid temperature changes, place the camera in a bag until the temperature difference subsides.

• Avoid contact with garbage, mud, sand, dust, water, toxic gases, or salts. Wipe off any rain or water drops promptly.

• Do not press forcefully on the LCD display.

• Be careful not to sit on the camera if it is in your back pocket.

• When using a tripod, do not overtighten the screw in the tripod socket.

About Repairs:

• Do not clean the camera with organic solvents like thinner, alcohol, or benzene.

• Use a lens brush to remove dust from the lens. Do not use a spray blower, as it may damage the lens.

The PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 is designed for underwater use, but certain precautions must be taken to maintain its waterproof integrity.

Check the Following Before Going Near Water:

• Ensure there are no cracks or scratches on the rubber seals of the battery/card and terminal covers.

• Make sure there are no foreign objects (dust, sand, hair, lint, liquid) on the rubber seals or the surfaces they contact. Wipe away any foreign objects with a clean, lint-free cloth before closing the covers.

• Close the battery/card and terminal covers properly until they click. If not closed securely, water may enter and damage the camera.

Be Careful Near the Water:

• Do not open the covers near water or with wet hands. Wait until the camera is completely dry before changing the battery or SD Memory Card.

• The camera will sink if dropped in water. Always attach the strap and secure it to your wrist.

• The front of the lens is protected by glass. Keep this glass clean, as dirt or water on it will affect picture quality.

Precautions When Using the Camera in the Water:

• Do not use the camera deeper than 10 meters (32.8 ft) underwater.

• Do not use the camera underwater for more than 120 minutes consecutively.

• Do not open the covers underwater.

• Do not use the camera in hot water or a hot spring.

• Avoid applying excessive force, such as diving into water with the camera, as this may compromise waterproof performance.

• Leaving the camera on beach sand may cause it to exceed its operating temperature or block the speaker/microphone.

• Avoid getting sunscreen or sun oil on the camera, as it can cause discoloration. If oil gets on the camera, wash it off immediately with warm water.

Proper care after underwater use is essential for maintaining the waterproof performance of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1.

• Do not open the battery/card cover or terminal cover if the camera is wet. First, wipe off any water with a clean, lint-free cloth.

• When opening the covers, the inside surface may be wet. Wipe off any water from the covers.

• Ensure the covers are firmly closed before washing the camera in tap water to remove sand or dust, which could scratch the surface. After washing, dry the camera with a soft cloth.

• Wipe off any dirt or sand from the waterproof packing and the contact surface. Damage like cracks or dents can compromise waterproof performance. If you find any damage, contact your nearest PENTAX Service Center.

• If the camera is very dirty or has been used in the sea, ensure it is turned off and the covers are firmly closed. Then, rinse it under running tap water or leave it in a bowl of clean water for a short time (2-3 minutes).

• Avoid cleaning with agents like soapy water, mild detergents, or alcohol, as this can compromise the waterproof performance.

• To maintain waterproof performance, it is recommended to have the waterproof packing changed once a year by a PENTAX Service Center (a charge will be made).

• Note that the camera’s accessories are not waterproof.

To attach the supplied standard strap (O-ST104) to your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, follow these steps:

1. Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug on the camera.

2. Pass the other, wider end of the strap through the loop created by the narrow end and pull it tight to secure it.

To attach the supplied carabiner strap (O-ST117/O-ST118) to your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, follow these steps:

1. Pass the narrow end of the strap through the strap lug on the camera.

2. Fix the end of the strap to the stopper to secure it.

Ensure the protective rubber rings on the carabiner are positioned to cushion any impact against the camera’s display.

To charge the rechargeable lithium-ion battery (D-LI92) for your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, use the supplied battery charger (D-BC92).

1. Connect the supplied AC plug cord to the battery charger.

2. Plug the other end of the AC plug cord into a power outlet.

3. Place the battery into the charger with the PENTAX logo facing up. The charging indicator light will turn on.

4. When charging is complete (after about 120 minutes max.), the charging indicator light will turn off. Remove the battery from the charger.

Note: The appropriate ambient temperature for charging is 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F).

Follow these steps to install or remove the battery in your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 camera.

Installing the Battery:

1. Open the battery/card cover. Press the cover lock lever in direction ①, slide the cover in direction ②, and then open it in direction ③.

2. Use the side of the battery to press the battery lock lever in direction ④. Insert the battery with the PENTAX logo pointing toward the lens side of the camera. Push the battery in until it locks in place.

3. Close the battery/card cover. While lightly pressing the cover, slide it in the opposite direction of ② until it clicks, confirming it is securely closed.

Removing the Battery:

1. Open the battery/card cover as described in step 1 above.

2. Press the battery lock lever towards ④. The battery will be ejected. Be careful not to drop it.

The battery level indicator on the display of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 shows the remaining battery power. Here is what each status means:

Follow these steps to install or remove an SD Memory Card in your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1. Ensure the camera is turned off before you begin.

Installing the SD Memory Card:

1. Open the battery/card cover by pressing the lock lever and sliding the cover.

2. Insert the SD Memory Card into the socket with the label facing the front of the camera (the side with the lens). Push the card in all the way until it clicks into place.

3. Close the battery/card cover securely until it clicks.

Removing the SD Memory Card:

1. Open the battery/card cover.

2. Gently push the SD Memory Card into the socket. The card will pop out slightly.

3. Pull the card out of the socket.

To ensure data integrity and proper camera function, please follow these precautions when using an SD Memory Card with your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1:

• Use this camera to format (initialize) any new SD cards or cards that have been used in other devices.

• The SD card has a write-protect switch. When set to LOCK, you cannot record, delete, or format data on the card.

• The card may be hot after use; handle with care when removing it.

• Do not remove the card or turn off the camera while images are being saved, played back, or transferred, as this can cause data loss or damage.

• Do not bend the card, subject it to impact, or expose it to water or high temperatures.

• Never remove the card during formatting.

• Regularly back up important data to a computer, as data on the card can become unreadable or be deleted due to mishandling, static electricity, or long periods of disuse.

• Avoid using or storing the card where it may be exposed to static electricity, direct sunlight, or rapid temperature changes.

• Using an SD card with a slow recording speed may cause movie recording to stop unexpectedly.

To Turn the Camera On:

Press the power switch. The power lamp will light up and the display will turn on. If it’s the first time you are turning the camera on, you will be prompted to set the language, date, and time.

To Turn the Camera Off:

Press the power switch again. Both the power lamp and the display will turn off.

To start the PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 directly in Playback Mode without entering Capture Mode first, press and hold down the Playback (▶) button while pressing the power switch. The display will turn on, and the camera will start up in Playback Mode.

To switch back to Capture Mode, you can either press the Playback (▶) button again or press the shutter release button halfway.

When you turn on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 for the first time, you will be prompted to set the language, date, and time. Follow these steps:

Setting the Display Language:

1. When the [Language] screen appears, use the four-way controller (▲▼◄►) to choose your desired display language.

2. Press the OK button. The [Initial Setting] screen will appear.

Setting the Date and Time:

1. After setting the language, the [Date Adjustment] screen appears. Press the four-way controller (►) to move the frame to the date format [mm/dd/yy].

2. Use the four-way controller (▲▼) to choose your preferred date format (mm/dd/yy, dd/mm/yy, or yy/mm/dd).

3. Press (►) to move to the time format [24h]. Use (▲▼) to select between a 24-hour or 12-hour display.

4. Press (▼) to move to the [Date] field. Press (►) to move to the month.

5. Use (▲▼) to change the month. Press (►) to move to the day, then the year, and set them in the same way.

6. Continue to the time fields and set the hour and minutes using the same method.

7. After setting the time, press (▼) to select [Settings complete].

8. Press the OK button to confirm the date and time.

In Capture Mode on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, the main operating buttons have the following functions:

• Power switch: Turns the camera on and off.

• Shutter release button: Press halfway to focus on the subject. Press fully to take a picture or start/stop movie/sound recording.

• ◄ / ► (Zoom) button: Changes the captured area by zooming in (► Tele) or out (◄ Wide).

• Playback (▶) button: Switches to Playback mode.

• MENU button: Displays the [Rec. Mode] menu.

• Face Detection button: Switches between Face Detection functions (On, Off, Smile Capture, Self-portrait Assist).

• Four-way controller:

• ▲: Changes the drive mode (Self-timer, Continuous Shooting, etc.).

• ▼: Displays the Capture Mode Palette to select a shooting mode.

• ◄: Changes the flash mode.

• ►: Changes the focus mode.

• (In Manual Focus mode, ▲▼ adjusts the focus).

• OK/DISPLAY button: Changes the information displayed on the screen.

• Green button: Switches to Green mode (basic automatic mode) or calls up an assigned function.

In Playback Mode on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, the main operating buttons have the following functions:

• Power switch: Turns the camera on and off.

• ◄ / ► (Zoom) button:

• In single-image display, ◄ switches to multi-image display and ► enlarges the image.

• Adjusts volume during playback of movies or sound.

• Playback (▶) button: Switches to Capture mode.

• MENU button: Displays the [Setting] menu.

• Face Detection button: Zooms in on detected faces in an image (Face close-up playback).

• Four-way controller:

• ▲: Plays or pauses a movie or sound file.

• ▼: Displays the Playback Mode Palette or stops movie/sound playback.

• ◄►: Displays the previous or next image/sound file. Fast-forwards or reverses during movie/sound playback.

• OK/DISPLAY button: Changes the information displayed on the screen.

• Green/Delete button: Switches to the Delete screen for the current image or selection.

To navigate and change settings in the menus of your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1, follow this general procedure:

1. Press the MENU button in either Capture or Playback mode to display the corresponding menu ([Rec. Mode] or [Setting] menu).

2. Use the four-way controller (▲▼) to move the selection frame up or down to highlight a menu item.

3. Press the four-way controller (►) to enter the submenu or view the options for the highlighted item.

4. Use the four-way controller (▲▼) to select a setting or option within the submenu.

5. Press the OK button or the four-way controller (◄) to confirm your selection. The setting is saved, and you are returned to the previous menu level.

6. To exit the settings, press the MENU button. Depending on the screen, this may exit the menu entirely or return you to the previous screen.

To take a still picture with your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 using the default settings, follow these steps:

1. Press the power switch to turn the camera on. The camera will be in Still Picture Capture mode.

2. Compose your shot by viewing the subject on the display. The focus frame in the center indicates the area of automatic focusing.

3. Press the shutter release button halfway down. The camera will focus on the subject. The focus frame will turn green when the subject is in focus. In dark situations, the camera may emit a Focus Assist light.

4. Press the shutter release button fully to take the picture. The image will appear on the display temporarily (Instant Review) and will then be saved to the memory card or built-in memory.

Your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 has various shooting modes for different situations. To select one:

1. In Capture Mode, press the four-way controller down (▼). The Capture Mode Palette will appear on the screen.

2. Use the four-way controller (▲▼◄►) to navigate and highlight the icon for the shooting mode you want to use (e.g., Landscape, Portrait, Night Scene, etc.). A guide for the selected mode is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

3. Once the desired mode is highlighted, press the OK button. The camera will select the mode and return to the capture screen.

The Face Detection function on the PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 automatically identifies faces in the frame to optimize focus and exposure.

• When the camera detects a face, a yellow frame appears around it. If multiple faces are detected (up to 32), a yellow frame appears over the main face, and white frames appear over the others.

• The camera focuses (Face Detection AF) and sets the exposure (Face Detection AE) based on the detected faces.

• You can switch the Face Detection function On, Off, or to other modes like Smile Capture or Self-portrait Assist by pressing the Face Detection button.

• Smile Capture: The camera automatically releases the shutter when it detects a smile.

• Self-portrait Assist: The macro lights around the lens blink to indicate the position of a detected face on the screen, helping you frame a self-portrait.

• Blink Detection: After taking a picture with Face Detection active, the camera will display a message if it detects that a subject’s eyes were closed.

To record a movie with sound on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1:

1. Press the down arrow (▼) on the four-way controller to open the Capture Mode Palette.

2. Select the Movie (C) icon and press OK.

3. Frame your subject using the display.

4. Press the shutter release button fully to start recording. A “REC” indicator will blink on the display.

5. Press the shutter release button fully again to stop recording.

Recording will continue until the memory is full, the file size reaches 2 GB, or you stop it manually.

Playing Back Still Pictures:

1. Press the Playback (▶) button. The last image taken will be displayed.

2. Use the four-way controller (◄►) to view the previous or next image.

Playing Back a Movie:

1. Enter Playback Mode and use the four-way controller (◄►) to navigate to a movie file (indicated by a filmstrip icon).

2. Press the up arrow (▲) on the four-way controller to start playback.

3. During playback, you can use the four-way controller to pause (▲), reverse (◄), or fast-forward (►). Press the down arrow (▼) to stop playback.

You can delete images and sound files from your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 in several ways. Note that protected files cannot be deleted.

Deleting a Single Image/Sound File:

1. In Playback Mode, display the image or sound file you wish to delete.

2. Press the Delete (🗑️) button. A confirmation screen appears.

3. Use the up arrow (▲) to select [Delete].

4. Press the OK button. The file is deleted.

Deleting Selected Images:

1. In Playback Mode, press the ◄/► (Zoom) button to enter 6-image or 12-image display.

2. Press the Delete (🗑️) button.

3. Use the four-way controller to navigate to each image you want to delete and press the OK button to mark it with a checkmark.

4. After selecting all desired images, press the Delete (🗑️) button again.

5. Select [Select & Delete] and press OK to confirm.

Deleting All Images:

1. Press the MENU button in Playback Mode to enter the [Setting] menu.

2. Select [Delete All] and press the right arrow (►).

3. Select [Delete All] again and press OK to confirm.

To protect important images or sound files from being accidentally deleted:

1. In Playback Mode, navigate to the image you want to protect.

2. Press the down arrow (▼) to open the Playback Mode Palette.

3. Use the four-way controller to select the Protect (key icon) option and press OK.

4. Select [Single Image/Sound] and press OK.

5. A message “Protects this image/sound” will appear. Use the up arrow (▲) to select [Protect].

6. Press the OK button. The file is now protected, and a key icon will appear on it during playback.

To protect all images at once, select [All Images/Sounds] in step 4.

If your picture is dark when using the flash, the cause is likely that the subject is too far away, such as in a night scene. The picture becomes dark if the subject is beyond the effective range of the flash. Try to take pictures within the specified flash range.

If the flash on your PENTAX OPTIO WG-1 does not discharge, check the following settings:

• The flash mode is set to Flash Off. Change the setting to Auto or Flash On.

• The camera is in a mode where the flash is disabled. The flash will not discharge in the following modes:

• Continuous Shooting, Burst Shooting, or Auto Bracketing.

• Infinity focus mode.

• Movie, Underwater Movie, Fireworks, or Digital Microscope shooting modes.
