If you purchased your PANTECH PN-8200 at a Telus Store, it is likely already activated. If you upgraded or received a new phone by mail, it may need activation. To activate your phone, follow these steps:

1. Visit a Telus Store to have your phone activated, or visit the telusmobility website and click on the MY ACCOUNT tab.

2. In the drop-down menu, select ACTIVATE YOUR NEW PHONE and click GO to see the instructions for online activation.

3. After gathering the necessary materials, select the Activated New Phone link and follow the online directions to complete the activation process.

All unanswered calls on your PANTECH PN-8200 are directed to voicemail. It’s recommended to set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated. Your voicemail number is assigned to the 1 key.

1. Press and hold the 1 key or enter your phone number, then press the SEND key.

2. Follow the voice tutorial to set up your account.

When you check your voicemail, unanswered calls are played back in the order they were received. You will have options for skipping, deleting, fast-forwarding, or saving messages.

1. Press and hold the 1 key to call your voice mailbox.

2. Follow the instructions to retrieve your messages.

Only use the battery provided with your PANTECH PN-8200. For easier installation, place the phone on a flat surface.

1. Place the battery on the back of the handset and slide it into place.

2. Push the battery down until it locks into place.

Place the battery on a flat surface and use an even, steady pressure when removing the battery.

1. Pull the release latch upwards, and lift up the battery.

2. Remove the battery from the handset.

Note: If the battery is not correctly placed in the compartment, the handset will not turn on and/or the battery may detach during use.

Ensure the battery is properly installed in the handset. Use all normal cautions when working with a standard wall outlet.

1. Plug the AC Charger into a standard outlet.

2. Plug the other end of the AC Charger into the bottom of your phone. The battery must be installed on the phone.

Important Notes:

• The battery is not charged at the time of purchase. Fully charge it before first use.

• It is more efficient to charge the battery with the handset powered off.

• If you charge the battery with the phone power off, the device will power on.

• If the battery fails to perform normally, you may need to replace it.

DOs:

• Only use the battery and charger approved by the manufacturer.

• Only use the battery for its original purpose.

• Keep the battery in a temperature range of 41°F (5°C) to 95°F (35°C).

• If the battery is stored in temperatures outside the recommended range, allow it to warm up or cool down before use.

• Completely drain the battery before recharging. It may take one to four days to completely drain.

• Store the discharged battery in a cool, dark, and dry place.

• Purchase a new battery when its operating time decreases after a full charge.

• Dispose of and recycle used batteries according to local regulations.

DON’Ts:

• Don’t use a damaged battery or charger.

• Don’t attempt to disassemble the battery as it is a sealed unit.

• Don’t short circuit the battery by carrying it with metallic objects like coins or pens.

• Ensure no metal objects contact the + and – terminals to prevent injury or burns.

• Don’t dispose of batteries by burning, as they may explode.

Turning the Phone On:

Press and hold the END key until the “Power On” logo appears.

• If “Password” appears, enter your 4-digit password to unlock the phone.

• If the battery is too low, the keypad will not light up. You should charge the phone.

Turning the Phone Off:

Press and hold the END key until the “Power Off” logo appears.

• If “LOW BATTERY!! PHONE IS TURNING OFF!” appears, immediately change or recharge the battery to avoid potential memory damage. Unsaved data may be lost if the phone turns off.

The Quick List provides fast access to common actions. To use it:

1. Press the lower button (Q/REC) on the right side of your phone.

2. Use the Navigation Key to select the command you want.

You can call someone from your contact list by starting to type their name. The screen will autofill the contact name as you enter it.

1. In the Home screen, begin entering the contact name.

2. When you see the contact name you want to call, select it and press the OK key (center of navigation key).

1. In the Home screen, begin entering the phone number.

2. Do one of the following:

• If you see the number or contact name you want to call, select it and press the OK key.

• If you do not see the number or contact name, finish entering the number and press the OK key.

1. In the Home screen, press the right soft key for [Contacts].

2. Select the contact to call and press the OK key.

3. Select the phone number to call and press the OK key.

You can quickly dial a phone number from an e-mail or text message if it is a hyperlink (underlined like a website address).

1. From a message containing a hyperlink phone number, select the phone number and press the OK key.

• To answer the call, press the SEND key or press [Answer].

• To reject the call, press the END key or press [Ignore]. Selecting Ignore will connect the caller to your voicemail if you subscribe to this service.

• Answer the second call: To put the first call on hold and answer the second call, press the SEND key or press Answer. To switch between calls, press Swap.

• Postpone the second call: To postpone answering, press Ignore. The call will continue ringing until you answer it, it goes to voicemail, or the caller disconnects.

You can use the Speakerphone mode during a call.

1. Press [Menu] and then [Speaker Phone On] to activate the Speakerphone mode.

2. The Speakerphone mode will be automatically deactivated when your call ends.

You can insert a pause into a contact’s phone number, which is useful for dialing extensions or navigating automated systems.

1. In the Home screen, press the right soft key for [Contacts].

2. Select the contact whose phone number you want to edit.

3. Select the phone number and press [Menu] then [Edit].

4. Place the cursor where you want to insert the pause.

5. To insert a pause, do one of the following:

• Manual Pause: Press [Menu] and select [Insert Wait]. The letter ‘w’ will appear. Dialing will pause at this point until you press the SEND key.

• Three-Second Pause: Press [Menu] and select [Insert Pause]. The letter ‘p’ will appear. The phone will automatically pause for three seconds before dialing the rest of the number.

6. Press [Done].

Locking the Keypad:

Locking the keypad prevents accidental key presses.

1. Press the lower button (Q/REC) on the right side of your phone to display the Quick List.

2. Select Key lock and press the OK key.

3. The left soft key label will change to Unlock.

Note: You can still receive calls and make emergency calls when the keypad is locked.

Unlocking the Keypad:

In the Home screen, press Unlock and then press the * key.

The PANTECH PN-8200 can provide privacy for your calls through encryption and scrambling, if supported by your network.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select Settings, then Call Options.

2. Press the OK key to select or clear Voice Privacy, then press [Done].

1. In the Home screen, press [Start] and select Settings, or select Settings from the menu bar at the top of the Home screen.

2. Select Clock & Alarm, press the OK key, then select Date and Time.

3. In Time Zone, select your time zone using the left and right Navigation Keys.

4. In Date, edit the month, day, or year.

5. In Time, edit the hour, minute, and second.

6. Press [Done].

You can choose from many color schemes and layouts, and use a background image for the main screen.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start] and select Settings, then press the OK key.

2. Select Home Screen.

3. Under the Home Screen Layout, select a Color scheme and Background image.

4. Press [Done].

This option allows you to see summaries of all the settings on your phone.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start] and select Settings, then press the OK key.

2. Press More, then select About.

Quickly Lock Your Phone:

1. Display the Quick List by pressing the lower (Q/REC) button on the right side of your phone.

2. Select Device lock and press the OK key.

Unlock Your Phone:

1. In the Home screen, press Unlock.

2. Enter your password, and press [Done].

Before using the alarm, ensure you have properly set the date, time, and time zone.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start] and select Settings, then press the OK key.

2. Select Clock & Alarm, then select Alarm and press the OK key.

3. To set the alarm time, select Alarm time and enter the time you want the alarm to go off.

4. To turn the alarm on or off, select Alarm and use the left and right Navigation Keys to toggle it.

5. Press [Done].

Making an Emergency Call:

Emergency calls work independently of the network area you are in. Dial 911 and press the OK key. You can make calls to emergency service numbers even if you have locked the phone.

Location ON/E911ONLY Settings:

The PANTECH PN-8200 allows you to share position information over the network. For emergency calls, this information may be used by the operator to determine your position.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start] and select Settings, then press the OK key.

2. Select Call Options, and press the OK key.

3. To select the Location option, select Location and use the left and right Navigation Keys to choose one of the following:

• Select Location On to make position information continually available.

• Select E911 Only to make this information available for emergency services only.

4. Press [Done].

Your PANTECH PN-8200 supports four input modes: Multipress, T9, Numeric, and Symbols. The phone automatically selects the appropriate mode based on the field you are in.

• Change Case: Press the * key to change between uppercase, lowercase, and caps lock.

• Delete Characters: Press the Clear key to delete a single character. Press and hold the Clear key to delete an entire field.

• Enter a Space: In Multipress or T9 mode, press the # key.

• Enter a Symbol: Press and hold the * key, then select Symbols from the menu. Select the symbol you want and press OK.

• Enter Numbers in Text: Press and hold the * key to change to Numeric mode. Enter the number(s). Briefly press the * key to change back to text mode.

• Enter Punctuation (Multipress Mode): Press the 1 key repeatedly until you see the desired punctuation mark.

• Enter Punctuation (T9 Mode): Press the 1 key and select from a list of common punctuation.

• Enter Text in T9 Mode: Press the number keys that contain the letters you want. Press each key only once per letter. T9 will analyze the key presses and suggest words. Press the # key to enter a space after a word.

To manually enter a new contact:

1. In the Home screen, press [Start].

2. Select Contacts using the Navigation Key and press the OK key.

3. Press the left soft key for [New].

4. Enter the information for the new contact.

5. Press [Done].

Send a Text Message:

1. From the Home screen, press the left soft key [Start].

2. Select Contacts and press OK.

3. Select a contact and press OK.

4. Press the right soft key [Menu] and select Send Text Message.

5. Compose your message, and press the left soft key [Send].

Send an E-mail:

1. From the Home screen, press the left soft key [Start].

2. Select Contacts and press OK.

3. Select a contact and press OK.

4. Scroll to the e-mail address and press OK.

5. Select the e-mail account to use.

6. Enter a subject, compose your message, and then press [Send].

Create a Speed Dial:

1. In the Home screen, press the left soft key for [Start].

2. Select Contacts and press the OK key.

3. Select the contact for whom to create a speed dial and press the OK key.

4. Select the phone number, e-mail address, or Web page address.

5. Press [Menu] and select Add to Speed Dial, then press OK.

6. In Keypad assignment, select the speed dial number to use (you can store up to 99).

7. Press [Done]. Note: The number 1 is reserved for voicemail.

Using Speed Dials:

1. In the Home screen, press and hold the number on the keypad assigned as a speed dial.

2. If the speed dial is two digits, press the first digit, then press and hold the second digit.

3. The phone will dial the number, open a new e-mail, or go to the Web page.

Call History provides details of all received, missed, and dialed calls.

• View Call History: From the Home screen, press [Start], select Call History, and press OK. To filter for missed, incoming, or outgoing calls, press [Menu] and select Filter.

• View Call Timers: In Call History, press [Menu] and select View Timers.

• Reset Call Timers: In the View Timers screen, press [Menu] and select Reset Timers. Press Yes to confirm.

• Create a Contact from Call History: In Call History, select a phone number, press [Menu], scroll to Save to Contacts, and press OK. Select New Item, press [Insert] to add the number, enter the remaining information, and press [Done].

• Delete an Item from Call History: In Call History, select the item to delete, press [Menu], and select Delete.

• Dial the Last Number Called: In the Home screen, press the SEND key twice.

A “profile” is a set of parameters and options for your phone’s operation (e.g., Silent, Meeting).

• Change the Current Profile: In the Home screen, use the up and down Navigation Keys to select Profile and press OK. Select a different profile from the list and press [Done]. You can also change the profile via the Quick List.

• View the List of Profiles: From the Home screen, press [Start], select Settings, scroll to Profiles, and press OK.

• Edit a Profile: In the Home screen, use the Navigation Keys to select Profile and press OK. Select the profile to edit, press the right soft key [Menu], and select Edit. Modify the settings and press [Done].

Schedule an Appointment:

1. From the Home screen, press [Start], select Calendar, and press OK.

2. Press [Menu] and select New Appointment.

3. Enter information about the appointment. To schedule an all-day event, select All day event under End time.

4. Press [Done].

Delete an Appointment:

1. In Agenda view, select the appointment to delete.

2. Press [Menu], then Delete Appointment.

3. If the appointment is recurring, press Yes to delete the series or No to delete only the current appointment.

View Appointments:

• View by Day (Agenda): In Calendar, press [Menu], select [Go to Today], then press OK. Or, from Week/Month view, press [Menu] and select Agenda View.

• View by Week: In Calendar, press [Menu] and select Week View.

• View by Month: In Calendar, press [Menu] and select Month View.

Create a Voice Note:

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select [More], then [Voice Notes], and press OK.

2. Briefly press the left soft key [Record] and speak into the microphone.

3. Press Stop to stop recording. The voice note is saved in the All Notes list.

Listen to a Voice Note:

1. Navigate to the Voice Notes application.

2. Select the voice note to play, press the right soft key [Menu], and press Play.

3. To stop listening, press Stop.

Rename a Voice Note:

1. Navigate to the Voice Notes application.

2. Select the voice note to Rename.

3. Press [Menu], then select Rename and press OK.

4. Enter a new name and press [Done].

1. In the Home screen, press the left soft key [Start], select Messaging, and press OK.

2. Select Text Messages and press OK.

3. Press the left soft key [New].

4. In the “To:” field, enter the recipient’s phone number. Insert a semicolon (;) between multiple numbers.

5. Press Send. The message is sent immediately.

1. In the Home screen, press the left soft key [Start], select Messaging, and press OK.

2. Select Outlook E-mail and press OK.

3. Press [New].

4. In the To, Cc, and/or Bcc fields, enter recipient e-mail addresses. Use a semicolon (;) to separate multiple addresses.

5. In Subject, enter a subject.

6. Enter your message.

7. Press [Send]. E-mail messages are stored in the Outbox and sent the next time you synchronize or connect to your e-mail server.

The PANTECH PN-8200 has a pre-installed USB modem for data transfer. You must deactivate the USB modem if you want to use ActiveSync.

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select Settings, and press OK.

2. Scroll to Connections and press OK.

3. Select Modem Link and press OK.

4. Use the left and right Navigation Keys to select Status.

5. To activate, select Active. To deactivate, select Inactive.

6. Press [Done].

Take a Picture (Snapshot):

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select Camera, and press OK.

2. Aim your camera and press OK.

3. The screen will change to a review screen. You can press OK to return to Preview or select [Delete File] to delete the image.

Record a Video:

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select Camera, and press OK.

2. Press the “1” key on the keypad to switch to Camcorder mode.

3. Aim your camera and press OK to start recording.

4. Press OK again to stop recording.

5. The first frame of the recording appears. You can press OK to return to Preview or select [Delete File] to delete the video.

Turn Bluetooth On and Off:

1. In the Home screen, press [Start], select Settings, and press OK.

2. Scroll to Connections and press OK.

3. Select Bluetooth and press OK.

4. Use the left and right Navigation Keys to turn On / Off.

Create a Bluetooth Partnership:

1. Go to Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth.

2. Press the right soft key [Menu], select Devices, and press OK.

3. Press the right soft key [Menu], select New. Your phone will search for devices.

4. Select the device you want to partner with and press Add.

5. Enter an alphanumeric passkey (1-16 characters) and press [Done]. Enter the same passkey on the other device.

Make Your Device Discoverable:

1. Go to Settings -> Connections -> Bluetooth.

2. Press the right soft key [Menu], select Devices, and press OK.

3. Use the left and right Navigation Keys to select Discoverable and press [Done].

• Getting Help: Say “Help” for context-sensitive assistance.

• Interrupting a Question: You can press the Voice Command Button anytime during a question to interrupt and speak your answer.

• Canceling: Press and hold the Voice Command Button or say “Cancel”.

• Better Recognition: Use longer command variations for easier recognition (e.g., say “Correct” instead of “Yes”).

• Speaking Volume: Do not yell. Speak in a normal tone. Speaking too loudly or too close to the microphone can distort the audio.

• Best Results: Adjust microphone gain as described in the setup and speak normally.

• Pausing Before Speaking: Wait for the microphone icon to appear before you start speaking to ensure the beginning of your response is not missed.

Using the phone function of your PANTECH PN-8200 while driving is extremely dangerous. Safety should always be your first priority. Check and obey all local laws and regulations regarding the use of phones while driving.

If you must use the phone function while driving, please adhere to the following guidelines:

• Give your full attention to driving; it is your primary responsibility.

• Use hands-free operation, one-touch dialing, speed dialing, or auto-answer modes.

• Pull off the road and park in a safe and legal location before making or answering a call.

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions could lead to serious personal injury and possible property damage.

Your PANTECH PN-8200 is a high-quality piece of equipment. Follow these precautions to avoid injury or damage:

• DO NOT use or store the equipment near high temperatures, open flames, or heat-emitting equipment.

• DO NOT drop the device or subject it to severe shock.

• DO NOT expose the equipment to rain or spilled beverages.

• DO NOT use unauthorized accessories.

• DO NOT disassemble the device or its accessories. For repairs, return it to an authorized service center.

• Never allow metallic objects like staples or paper clips inside your device.

• Never touch liquid from a broken liquid crystal display. If it contacts your skin or clothing, wash immediately with clean water.

• If the device emits an unusual odor, sound, or smoke, immediately disconnect the AC adapter and detach the battery.
