Three R6 (AA, UM-3) size batteries are required to fully activate the SP-PHONE (speakerphone) and retain stored phone numbers in memory.

Step 1. Remove the wall mounting adaptor from the bottom of the unit.

Step 2. Open the battery compartment cover, then insert three R6 (AA, UM-3) size batteries, observing the correct polarity.

Step 3. Insert the tabs of the wall mounting adaptor into the openings of the unit, then push it in the direction of the arrow. The word “UP” on the adaptor should be facing upward.

Note: To prevent loss of stored phone numbers, replace new batteries within 10 minutes of removing the old ones. Always disconnect the telephone line cord before opening the battery compartment. It is recommended to replace all batteries once a year. Do not use Nickel-cadmium batteries.

BATTERY PRECAUTIONS:

Use batteries correctly to avoid damage from leakage.

• Do not mix different types of batteries.

• Do not charge, short-circuit, disassemble, heat, or dispose of batteries in fire.

• Remove all batteries when replacing them. Mixing fresh and discharged batteries can increase internal cell pressure and cause rupture.

• Ensure proper polarity when inserting batteries. Reverse insertion can cause charging, which may result in leakage or explosion.

• Remove batteries if the product will not be used for several months or more.

• Discard “dead” batteries as soon as possible, as they are more likely to leak.

First, connect the coiled handset cord to the handset and the main unit.

To connect to a two-line telephone jack (RJ14C):

1. Connect the 4-wired telephone line cord with green plugs to the jack labeled “L1 OR L1/L2” on the unit and to the wall jack.

2. Set the C.O.L. selector on the bottom of the unit to “L1/L2”.

To connect to two single-line telephone jacks (RJ11C):

1. Connect the 2-wired telephone line cord with transparent plugs to the jack labeled “L1 OR L1/L2” on the unit and to the wall jack for LINE 1.

2. Connect the 4-wired telephone line cord with green plugs to the jack labeled “L2” on the unit and to the wall jack for LINE 2.

3. Set the C.O.L. selector on the bottom of the unit to “L1/L2”.

To use as a single-line telephone:

1. Connect the 2-wired telephone line cord with transparent plugs to the jack labeled “L1 OR L1/L2” on the unit and to the single-line wall jack (RJ11C).

2. Set the C.O.L. selector on the bottom of the unit to “L1”.

3. Note: When connected this way, only LINE 1 can be used, and 2-line features are not available.

RINGER Selectors (LINE 1, LINE 2):

These selectors set the ringer volume for each line. You can set it to HIGH, LOW, or OFF. In the OFF position, the bell will not ring for that line.

DIALING MODE Selector:

Set to TONE if both your telephone lines have touch-tone service. If either line has rotary service, set it to PULSE.

C.O.L. (Central Office Line) Selector:

This selector must be set correctly for the line indicators to work properly. Set to L1/L2 for two-line operation. Set to L1 if you are using the unit as a single-line telephone.

LINE MODE Selectors:

Set to position A for standard telephone lines. If a line is connected to a low voltage system, such as a PBX, set the corresponding selector to B.

To make a call:

Step 1. Press the LINE 1 or the LINE 2 button to select a telephone line. The indicator for the selected line will light up red.

Step 2. Lift the handset.

Step 3. Dial a telephone number.

Step 4. When you have finished, place the handset in the cradle. The line indicator light will go out.

To adjust the handset receiver volume:

During a conversation, you can adjust the volume level of the handset receiver using the VOLUME control button. There are 3 levels available (High, Rather high, and Normal). Press the up arrow to increase the volume and the down arrow to decrease it. Three beeps will sound when you reach the high or normal level. The volume returns to the normal level after you hang up.

Note: The speakerphone requires batteries to be installed.

To make a call:

Step 1. Press the LINE 1 or the LINE 2 button to select a telephone line.

Step 2. Press the SP-PHONE button. The selected line indicator will light red, and the SP-PHONE indicator will turn on.

Step 3. Dial a telephone number.

Step 4. Speak to the other party through the MIC (Microphone). To switch to a handset call, simply lift the handset.

Step 5. When you have finished, press the SP-PHONE button. Both the line indicator and SP-PHONE indicator will go out.

To adjust the speaker volume:

During a conversation, you can adjust the speaker volume using the VOLUME control button. There are 12 levels available. Press the up arrow to increase the volume and the down arrow to decrease it. Three beeps will sound when you reach the maximum or minimum level. The selected volume level is maintained after you hang up.

Step 1. Press the LINE 1 or the LINE 2 button.

Step 2. Press the REDIAL button.

• When using the handset: The unit will redial the last dialed number once.

• When using the speakerphone: The unit will redial the last number up to 15 times within a 10-minute period if the line is busy (Automatic redial).

Step 1. When the telephone rings, press the LINE button whose indicator is flashing red.

Step 2. Lift the handset or press the SP-PHONE button to answer the call. The line indicator light will become steady.

Step 3. When you have finished, replace the handset in the cradle or press the SP-PHONE button.

• If the other party finds it difficult to hear you: Lower the speaker volume using the VOLUME control button or speak louder.

• To reduce echo: Use the speakerphone in a room with sound-absorbing furnishings like curtains or carpeting.

• To avoid lost or broken conversation: If you and the caller speak at the same time, parts of your conversation may be lost. Speak alternately to avoid this.

You can store up to 24 numbers (12 in upper stations, 12 in lower stations), each up to 16 digits long. Ensure the handset is in the cradle, batteries are installed, and the SP-PHONE indicator is off before starting.

To store in an UPPER memory station:

1. Press the PROGRAM button. The MUTE indicator will light up.

2. Enter the phone number you want to store (up to 16 digits).

3. Press one of the 12 one-touch dialing buttons. A beep will sound, the MUTE indicator will go out, and the number is stored.

To store in a LOWER memory station:

1. Press the PROGRAM button. The MUTE indicator will light up.

2. Enter the phone number you want to store (up to 16 digits).

3. Press the LOWER button. The MUTE indicator will begin flashing.

4. Press one of the 12 one-touch dialing buttons. A beep will sound, the MUTE indicator will go out, and the number is stored.

If you misdial, press PROGRAM to exit and start over. If a number is already stored in the selected location, you will hear two beeps and the MUTE indicator will flash.

Step 1. Press the PROGRAM button.

Step 2. To erase a number from an UPPER memory station, press the corresponding one-touch dialing button.

Step 3. To erase a number from a LOWER memory station, press the LOWER button, then press the corresponding one-touch dialing button.

This feature uses the speakerphone for one-touch dialing.

Step 1. Press the LINE 1 or the LINE 2 button to select the telephone line.

Step 2. To dial from an UPPER memory station, simply press the one-touch dialing button where the number is stored. The SP-PHONE will turn on automatically, and the number will be dialed.

Step 3. To dial from a LOWER memory station, press the LOWER button, and then press the one-touch dialing button where the number is stored. The SP-PHONE will turn on automatically, and the number will be dialed.

Step 4. You can continue the call on speakerphone or lift the handset to switch to a private conversation.

If you are on a call and the other line’s indicator begins flashing, you have an incoming call on that line.

When using the handset:

1. Press the HOLD button. Your current call will be put on hold, and its line indicator will change from red to green.

2. Press the other line button (the one that is flashing) to answer the second call. Its indicator will turn red.

3. To return to the first call, press its line button. The first call will become active (indicator turns red), and the second call will be terminated.

When using the speakerphone:

1. Press the HOLD button to put your current call on hold (indicator turns green).

2. Press the other line button, then press the SP-PHONE button or lift the handset to answer the second call.

3. To return to the first call, press its line button. The second call will be terminated.

Note: To keep the second call on hold when returning to the first, press the HOLD button before pressing the first call’s line button.

You can combine calls from both lines to establish a conference call.

Step 1. While on a call on one line, press the HOLD button to put the first call on hold. The line indicator will change from red to green.

Step 2. Make or answer a second call on the other line.

Step 3. Once the second call is connected, press the CONF (Conference) button to establish the conference call. Both line indicators will light red.

To hang up both lines:

Place the handset in the cradle (or press SP-PHONE if on speakerphone) and then press the CONF button.

To hang up one line only and continue with the other:

Press the line button of the call you wish to continue, and then press the CONF button.

• TONE (*) Button: If your line is set to Pulse dialing, pressing the TONE button during a call temporarily switches the mode to Tone. This allows you to use automated services like electronic banking. The mode returns to Pulse automatically when you hang up.

• PAUSE Button: When dialing from behind a PBX that requires an access code (like “9”), press the PAUSE button after the access code and before the phone number. This inserts a dialing delay, which is useful when redialing or storing the number in memory.

• FLASH Button: Pressing this button firmly works like a regular hookswitch, terminating the call and giving you a dial tone. Pressing it lightly is used for phone company services like Call Waiting or for special PBX features like transferring a call.

• MUTE Button: During a call, press the MUTE button to prevent the other party from hearing you. You can still hear them. The MUTE indicator light will turn on. Press the MUTE button again to resume the two-way conversation.

To use this feature, you must subscribe to a call waiting service from your telephone company.

Step 1. While you are on a call, you will hear a tone indicating another party is calling.

Step 2. Press the FLASH button lightly. The first call is put on hold, and you can answer the second call.

Step 3. To return to the first caller, press the FLASH button lightly again. The second call will be put on hold.

This unit can be mounted on a standard wall phone plate.

Step 1. Remove the handset guide from the cradle area by pushing it. Turn it over so the tab is upward and replace it. This tab will hold the handset in place when wall mounted.

Step 2. Remove the wall mounting adaptor from the bottom of the unit.

Step 3. Tuck the telephone line cord inside the wall mounting adaptor.

Step 4. Insert the tabs of the wall mounting adaptor back into the openings on the bottom of the unit and push it in the direction of the arrow. Ensure the word “UP” on the adaptor is upward.

Step 5. Connect the telephone line cord to the unit and to the wall jack on the plate. Mount the unit on the wall plate by aligning the holes with the plate’s mounting pegs, then seat it securely by sliding it down.

The RINGER selector for one or both lines may be set to the OFF position. Check the RINGER selectors and set them to the HIGH or LOW position.

Please check the following potential issues:

• The telephone line cord connection may be improper. Check that the cords are securely plugged into the unit and the wall jack(s).

• The batteries may be weak. Replace them with new ones.

• The DIALING MODE selector setting might be incorrect for your telephone service. Ensure it is set to TONE or PULSE correctly.

These features require battery power. The most common reason for failure is that the batteries have become weak or are not installed. Please replace the batteries with a new set. When storing numbers, also ensure the handset is in the cradle and you do not pause for more than 30 seconds during the process.

The MUTE indicator light is likely on, meaning the MUTE function is active. Press the MUTE button to turn it off and resume your two-way conversation.

This is usually caused by an incorrect setting on the selectors located on the bottom of the unit.

• Check the connection of the telephone line cord.

• Ensure the C.O.L. (Central Office Line) selector is set correctly (L1/L2 for two lines, L1 for a single line).

• Ensure the LINE MODE selectors are set correctly (usually A, unless connected to a PBX).

This indicates that an incoming call is arriving on the other line. To answer it, press the HOLD button to put your current call on hold, then press the line button that is flashing red. To return to your first call, press the line button of the first call.
