To insert the batteries into the remote control, please follow these steps:

1. Pull out the back cover of the remote control.

2. Insert two AAA or R03 batteries, ensuring correct polarity.

3. Close the cover.

1. Press the CLOCK button.

2. Press the arrow buttons to set the correct time.

3. Press the SET button to confirm the time.

To change the time display format, press the CLOCK button for approximately 5 seconds to switch between 12-hour (am/pm) and 24-hour format.

1. Press the OFF/ON button to start or stop the operation. When the unit is ON, the “OFF” indicator will disappear from the remote control display.

2. Press the MODE button to select the desired mode (AUTO, HEAT, FAN, DRY, COOL).

3. Press TEMP UP or TEMP DOWN to select the desired temperature. The selection range is 60 °F to 86 °F (16.0 °C to 30.0 °C).

To switch the temperature display between °F and °C, press and hold the down arrow button in the temperature selection area for approximately 10 seconds.

You can adjust the airflow direction using the AIR SWING buttons on your remote control:

Upper/Lower direction: Press the button for vertical swing to automatically move the flap up and down. Press it again to stop it at the desired position.

Lateral direction: Press the button for horizontal swing to automatically move the louvers left and right. Press it again to stop them at the desired position.

Important: Do not adjust the flap by hand.

Press the FAN SPEED/QUIET button to cycle through the options.

FAN SPEED:

When FAN AUTO is selected, the fan speed is adjusted automatically according to the operation mode.

You can manually select different fan speeds. Select the lowest fan speed for a low noise operation.

QUIET mode:

This operation reduces airflow noise. For multi-split systems, Quiet mode only activates when the button is pressed for all indoor units that are switched ON.

Press the POWERFUL button on the remote control. This operation runs the unit at maximum power to reach the set temperature quickly. To cancel, press the POWERFUL button again or turn the unit off.

Press the ECO button on the remote control. This function reduces power consumption for better energy savings without sacrificing comfort. To cancel, press the ECO button again. This operation cannot be used in FAN mode.

Room Freeze Protection (RFP) is used in unoccupied spaces during winter to protect equipment or appliances from being damaged by freezing temperatures. When selected, the unit operates in Heat mode with high fan speed. If the room temperature drops below the set temperature (50°F or 46°F), the compressor starts. When the temperature rises above the set temperature, the compressor stops. This cycle repeats continuously.

This function overwrites the current operation mode and can be cancelled by pressing the MODE button. This function is not applicable if connected with a multi-split outdoor unit. In a multi-split setup, it will run heating operation with a target room temperature set at 60°F.

Disclaimer: This function may not perform if the unit is not energized or is in a protection mode. It will not function in the event of a power failure. During RFP mode, POWERFUL, QUIET, and FAN SPEED selections are disabled.

You can set two different preset timers to turn the unit on and off.

1. Select TIMER ON or TIMER OFF by pressing the respective button. Each press cycles through timer 1, timer 2, and exit setting.

2. Set the desired time using the arrow buttons.

3. Press the SET button to confirm the setting.

Notes:

To cancel a timer, press TIMER ON or TIMER OFF to select the respective setting (1 or 2), then press CANCEL.

If a timer was cancelled due to a power failure, you can restore it by pressing TIMER ON or TIMER OFF to select the setting, then press SET.

The nearest timer setting is displayed and will activate in sequence. The timer operation follows the remote’s clock and will repeat daily once set.

The FIREPLACE function helps distribute heat equally from an external heat source (like a fireplace) throughout the room. It does this by continuously blowing air from the indoor unit, even when the compressor is off. This function is only available during Heat mode operation.

To activate, press the FIREPLACE button. The fan speed will adjust automatically based on the difference between the set temperature and the room temperature; a bigger difference results in a higher fan speed.

You can change the operation by pressing the MODE or FIREPLACE buttons. The setting is memorized even after the unit is turned off and on. Press the button again to cancel.

Note: This function is not applicable if connected with a multi-split outdoor unit.

No, the features have some limitations on simultaneous use:

ECO and FAN SPEED/QUIET can be selected at the same time.

POWERFUL, FAN SPEED, and QUIET cannot be selected at the same time.

AUTO: The POWER indicator blinks at the initial stage. The unit will select an operation mode automatically depending on the setting and room temperature.

HEAT: The POWER indicator blinks at the initial stage. The unit will take some time to warm up.

COOL: Provides efficient comfort cooling to suit your needs.

DRY: Operates at a low fan speed for a gentle cooling operation. If FAN AUTO is selected, DRY mode will operate with humidity control.

FAN: To circulate air in the room.

Multi-Split System Note: For multi-split systems, HEAT and COOL/DRY/FAN modes cannot activate at the same time for different indoor units. The unit that was turned on first gets priority, and the other unit will stop and its POWER indicator will blink in standby condition.

You may save energy by operating the unit within the recommended temperature ranges:

HEAT: 68 °F – 75 °F / 20.0 °C – 24.0 °C

COOL: 79 °F – 82 °F / 26.0 °C – 28.0 °C

The PANASONIC CU-XZ9AKUAC is equipped with an Auto Restart Control feature. When power is resumed after a power failure, the operation will restart automatically with the last used operation mode and airflow direction. This control is not applicable when a TIMER is set.

Use the air conditioner in the temperature range indicated in the table below. DBT: Dry bulb temperature, WBT: Wet bulb temperature.

Cleaning should be done regularly to ensure optimal performance. A dirty unit may cause malfunction and display a “H 99” error code.

Before cleaning:

Switch off the power at the circuit breaker.

Do not touch the aluminium fin as sharp parts may cause injury.

Do not use benzine, thinner, or scouring powder.

Use soap (pH 7) or neutral household detergent only.

Do not use water hotter than 104 °F / 40 °C.

Indoor Unit:

Wipe the unit gently with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid scratches from sharp or rough items.

Front Panel:

1. Raise the panel up.

2. Slide the front panel to the right and pull out.

3. Wash gently and dry. To re-attach, hold it horizontally, match and push it in, close it down, and press both ends and the center of the panel to secure it.

Air Filters (Clean once every 2 weeks):

1. Remove the air filters from the unit.

2. Wash/rinse the filters gently with water to avoid damaging the surface.

3. Dry the filters thoroughly in a shaded area, away from fire or direct sunlight.

4. Re-insert the filters and replace any damaged filters.

Outdoor Unit:

Clean any debris surrounding the unit and clear any blockage from the drain pipe.

This is a preliminary step to prepare for a TIMER operation that has been set. When the ON timer is set, the unit may start earlier (up to 35 minutes before the set time) to achieve the desired temperature on time.

The unit is in defrost mode. This is a normal operation to remove frost from the outdoor unit.

When a timer has been set, the timer setting repeats daily. The indicator will remain on to show that a timer is active.

This delay is a protective measure for the unit’s compressor.

Please check the following:

Set the temperature correctly.

Close all doors and windows.

Clean or replace the filters.

Clear any obstruction at the air inlet and air outlet vents.

If the remote control does not work, or the display is dim or the transmission signal is weak, please check the following:

Insert the batteries correctly, ensuring proper polarity.

Replace weak batteries with new ones.

Please check the following:

Check if the circuit breaker is tripped.

Check if any timers have been set that might be preventing operation.

Make sure the receiver on the indoor unit is not obstructed. Be aware that certain fluorescent lights may interfere with the signal transmitter. If the problem persists, consult an authorised dealer.

You can use the AUTO OFF/ON button on the indoor unit itself. First, raise the front panel to access the button.

1. Press the button once to use in AUTO mode.

2. Press and hold the button until you hear 1 beep, then release to use in forced COOL mode.

3. Repeat step 2. Press and hold until you hear 2 beeps, then release to use in normal COOL mode.

4. Repeat step 3. Press and hold until you hear 3 beeps, then release to use in forced HEAT mode.

5. Press the button again to turn the unit off.

To dim or restore the brightness of the indicators on the unit, press and hold the up arrow button for the fan speed on the remote for 5 seconds.

Before using the unit after an extended period of non-use, perform a seasonal inspection:

Check the batteries in the remote control.

Check that there is no obstruction around the air inlets and outlet vents.

Use the AUTO OFF/ON button on the unit to select COOL or HEAT mode. After 15 minutes of operation, it is normal to have the following temperature difference between the air inlet and outlet vents:

COOL: ≥ 14.4 °F / 8 °C

HEAT: ≥ 25.2 °F / 14 °C

If the unit will not be used for an extended period:

1. Activate HEAT mode for 2-3 hours to thoroughly remove any moisture left in the internal parts. This helps to prevent mould growth.

2. Turn off the power supply at the circuit breaker and unplug the unit.

3. Remove the batteries from the remote control.

You should SWITCH OFF POWER AT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER and consult an authorised dealer if any of the following conditions occur:

Abnormal noise during operation.

Water or foreign particles have entered the remote control.

Water leaks from the Indoor unit.

The circuit breaker switches off frequently.

The power cord becomes unnaturally warm.

Switches or buttons are not functioning properly.

If the unit stops and the TIMER indicator blinks, you can use the remote control to retrieve the error code.

1. Press and hold the CHECK button on the remote control (in the recessed area) for 5 seconds.

2. Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons until you hear a beep sound, then write down the error code displayed.

3. Press and hold the CHECK button for 5 seconds to quit the checking mode.

4. Turn the unit off and inform an authorised dealer of the error code.

For certain errors, you may restart the unit for limited operation if there are 4 beeps when operation starts.
