What are the DSD decoding modes in the Windows version (DAC-HA300 only)?
On the Windows version of the Onkyo HF Player with a DAC-HA300, you can choose a decoding mode from the [Configure] > [Device…] menu. The options are:
[DSD over PCM]: This is a playback method called DoP (DSD Audio over PCM Frames). The DSD data is embedded into PCM format for transfer.
[DSD Native]: Thanks to the ASIO 2.1 driver, the DSD data is directly transferred without prior PCM conversion.
What are the “Audio Data Handling” modes and how do I choose one for finer audio quality?
There are two methods for handling audio data, which affect playback quality. To achieve finer audio quality, choose [Expand to RAM].
[Normal]: Reads digital audio data using the normal file access mode.
[Expand to RAM]: Stores digital audio data onto the RAM (Random Access Memory) of your PC. This allows your PC to process stored data on the RAM by canceling file access during playback, allowing the system to playback in the finest audio quality. Note: When this mode is selected, it may take extra time to start playback on a slower PC.
To select a mode on Windows:
1. Go to the [Configure] menu and select [Device…].
2. In the ‘Audio Data Handling’ section, select either ‘Normal’ or ‘Expand to RAM (Needs More Memory)’.
To select a mode on Mac OS:
