How should I work with plastic tubing during the installation of my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 system?

Cutting the Tubing:

1. Before cutting, accurately measure the length needed. Allow 5/8″ of tubing for inserting into fittings and 1.5″ for placing into flexible tubing.

2. Cut the plastic tubing with a hacksaw, ensuring the cut is exactly square. A tube cutter can also be used.

3. Use a small knife or steel wool to remove any burrs from the inside and outside of the tube. Burrs must be removed to prevent clogs.

4. Use a file to slightly bevel the outside of the tube for easy insertion into fittings. Use steel wool or light-grained sandpaper to buff the surface to be glued for a clean, good seal.

Making a Joint:

1. Insert the tube into the fitting and align the parts as they will be installed. Mark both the tube and the fitting for quick realignment.

2. Apply cement generously in an inch-wide band only to the outside of the tube.

3. Insert the tube into the fitting with the alignment marks a quarter turn apart. Then, quickly push and turn the fitting to align the marks and spread the cement.

4. Allow one minute for the joint to dry. You can use electrical or duct tape to further seal the joint.

Cementing Flexible Tubing:

Ensure the ends of the flexible tubing are even; trim if necessary. When joining flexible tubing to plastic tubing or an inlet mounting plate, apply cement to both the inside of the flexible tubing and the outside of the plastic tubing or mounting plate ring. Twist the pieces as you join them to spread the glue evenly. Allow five minutes for the cement to set. Electrical or duct tape can be used to further seal the joint.

Securing Wire to Tubing:

Run the low-voltage power wiring along with the tubing. Use electrical tape to attach the wire to the tubing approximately every 12-18 inches to keep it secure.

How do I convert my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 from cyclonic to a bagged system?

The NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 unit is factory shipped for cyclonic use but can be converted to operate with a disposable bag (Model 391). The included bag adapter must be installed. NOTE: Do not remove the cyclonic filter.

1. Remove the pail from the unit by releasing both side latches, pulling them out and then pushing them up. Detach the pail.

2. Assemble the bag adapter to the intake elbow. Align the triangle on the adapter with the small inclined stud on the elbow.

3. Tighten the junction using the screw and nut (included in the parts bag).

4. Unfold the disposable bag and grasp its collar where indicated. Insert it over the bag adapter, being careful not to tear the bag.

5. Ensure the collar is positioned between the taper ring and the bag stopper on the bag adapter.

6. Put the pail back in its place.

How do I change the intake line direction on my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501?

2. Disassemble the intake elbow from the back of the unit using a 3/8″ socket to remove its retaining nuts and screws.

3. Flip the intake elbow 180°.

4. Reassemble the elbow to the unit, ensuring its gasket is in its original position and not folded to prevent suction loss and noise.

5. Put the debris pail back in its place.

What should I do if my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 loses suction?

If you experience a loss or decrease of suction, check the following possible causes and remedies:

Debris pail or disposable bag is completely full.
Remedy: Empty the debris pail or change the disposable bag.

Debris pail gasket damaged or missing.
Remedy: Replace the debris pail gasket.

Obstruction in the hose.
Remedy: Disconnect the hose from the wall inlet and insert a blunt instrument (like a flexible garden hose) into the hose to clear the obstruction.

Obstruction in the tubing system inside the walls.
Remedy: Insert the hose end into any inlet to start the power unit. Place the palm of your hand over the opposite end of the hose. When you feel suction increase, hold your hand there for a few seconds, then quickly remove it. Repeat several times. If the blockage is not cleared, contact your nearest Service Center.

Permanent filter or disposable bag is torn.
Remedy: Clean the unit interior and install a new sealed HEPA permanent filter (or disposable bag).

Wall inlet cover not properly sealed.
Remedy: Check all wall inlet covers to ensure they are closed and sealed tightly.

Exhaust tubing or vent clogged.
Remedy: Inspect and remove any blockages.

Why won’t my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 start, or why does it stop suddenly?

If your power unit does not start or stops suddenly, consider these potential issues:

Defective inlet.
Remedy: Check other wall inlets. If they work, replace the defective wall inlet.

Power unit internal circuit breaker has been activated (the reset button is popped up).
Remedy: Push the circuit breaker reset button on the left side of the power unit. If the button pops up again, contact your authorized Service Center.

Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker on house electrical panel.
Remedy: Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker on the house electrical panel.

Defective hose.
Remedy: Replace the hose as required.

Power unit overcurrent protector has been activated.
Remedy: Unplug the power unit, wait at least 15 minutes, and plug it back in.

Why does my NUTONE PUREPOWER PP6501 run continuously even when the hose is removed?

If the power unit runs continuously, check the following:

The unit power switch is in the ON position.
Remedy: Set the unit power switch to the OFF position.

An electrical short has occurred somewhere in the system.
Remedy: Perform a complete check of all wall inlets and power unit low voltage control lead connections. Contact your authorized Service Center.
