• All images: Deletes all images. This action cannot be undone.

3. Press the OK button.

4. A confirmation screen will appear. Select “Yes” and press the OK button to permanently delete the image(s).

To select a flash mode on your NIKON COOLPIX L23, follow these steps:

The self-timer will automatically turn off after one picture is taken. To stop the timer before a picture is taken, press the shutter-release button again.

You can make the entire image brighter or darker by using exposure compensation. Follow these steps:

1. Press the ‘right’ arrow (o) on the multi selector. The exposure compensation guide will be displayed.

2. Use the multi selector (up or down) to select a compensation value.

• To make the subject brighter, adjust the value to the “+” side.

• To make the subject darker, adjust the value to the “-” side.

3. Press the OK button to apply the setting. An icon showing the compensation value will appear on the screen.

4. Press the shutter-release button to take the picture with the new brightness setting.

To turn off exposure compensation, repeat the steps and set the value back to 0.0.

To select a shooting mode on your NIKON COOLPIX L23, follow these steps:

1. Press the shooting mode (A) button. The shooting-mode selection menu will be displayed.

You can press the zoom control toward ‘T’ (j) on the scene selection screen to view a brief description of the highlighted scene.

Use the Panorama assist scene mode to take a series of pictures that can later be joined into a single panorama using the supplied software. For best results, use a tripod.

1. Press the shooting mode button, select Scene mode, and then choose ‘p Panorama assist’.

2. Use the multi selector to choose the direction in which the images will be joined (right, left, up, or down) and press the OK button.

3. Frame the first portion of your panorama scene and take the first picture. An overlay of this image will appear on one-third of the monitor.

4. Frame the next picture so that it overlaps with the on-screen overlay of the previous shot, then press the shutter-release button.

5. Repeat step 4 until you have taken all the necessary pictures for your panorama.

6. When you are finished, press the OK button to complete the sequence. The camera will return to the direction selection screen.

Smart Portrait Mode automatically detects a smiling face and takes a picture without you needing to press the shutter button.

1. Press the shooting mode (A) button, use the multi selector to select ‘F Smart portrait’, and press the OK button.

2. Frame the picture. Point the camera at your subject. When the camera detects a face, it will be framed by a yellow border. When the face is in focus, the border will briefly turn green.

3. The shutter is automatically released. When the camera detects a smile on the face within the focus border, it will automatically take a picture. It will continue to take pictures each time it detects a smile.

4. To exit this mode, turn the power off or press the shooting mode button to select a different mode.

Macro mode allows you to take pictures of objects as close as 3 cm (1.2 in.). To use it in Auto mode:

1. Press the ‘down’ arrow (p) on the multi selector. The macro mode menu will be displayed.

2. Use the multi selector to select “ON” and press the OK button. The macro mode icon (F) will appear on the screen.

3. Rotate the zoom control until the zoom indicator on the screen glows green. This is the optimal range for macro focus.

4. Position your subject and press the shutter-release button to shoot.

In this mode, the camera focuses continuously until the shutter-release button is pressed halfway to lock the focus.

To change settings like Image Mode, White Balance, or Continuous shooting while in Auto mode, you need to access the shooting menu.

1. Make sure your camera is in A (auto) mode.

2. Press the MENU (d) button to display the shooting menu.

3. Use the multi selector (up or down) to highlight a menu item.

4. Press the multi selector (right) or the OK button to view the options for that item.

Image mode refers to the combination of image size (pixels) and quality (compression). You can change this setting in the shooting menu. The following options are available on the NIKON COOLPIX L23:

To record a movie with sound on your NIKON COOLPIX L23:

1. Press the shooting mode (A) button, use the multi selector to highlight ‘D Movie’, and press the OK button.

2. The camera enters movie mode. The maximum recordable length will be displayed on the monitor.

3. Press the OK button to start playback.

During playback, controls will appear at the top of the screen. You can use the multi selector to select an option (e.g., pause, rewind, advance) and press OK to use it. You can adjust the volume using the zoom control (T/W).

To play back images on a television, you will need an optional audio/video cable (EG-CP14).

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Connect the camera to the TV. Connect the audio/video cable to the camera’s USB/AV out port. Connect the yellow plug of the cable to the video-in jack on the TV, and the white plug to the audio-in jack.

3. Tune the television to the correct video channel (e.g., AV1, Video In). Refer to your TV’s documentation for details.

4. Hold down the playback (c) button on the camera to turn it on in playback mode. Images will now be displayed on the television screen. The camera’s monitor will remain off.

If images are not displayed correctly, ensure the “Video mode” setting (NTSC or PAL) in the camera’s setup menu matches the standard used by your television.

To transfer images from your NIKON COOLPIX L23 to a computer, you will need to install the supplied ViewNX 2 software first.

1. Start the computer where ViewNX 2 is installed.
