The following tools are required for the installation of your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC MSZ-EX09NLB air conditioner:

The “A2L (Risk of fire)” symbol indicates that the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC MSZ-EX09NLB uses a flammable refrigerant (R454B). If the refrigerant leaks and comes into contact with a fire or heating part, it will create harmful gas and there is a risk of fire. It is crucial to read the operating instructions carefully before operation, and service personnel must read both the operating instructions and installation manual before working on the unit.

Always observe the following safety precautions for your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC MSZ-EX09NLB:

Installation and Modification:

Do not install the unit by yourself (user). Improper installation can cause fire, electric shock, or injury. Always consult a qualified installer.

Follow the instructions detailed in the installation manual. Incomplete installation can lead to fire, electric shock, or water leakage.

Use appropriate protective equipment and tools for safety during installation.

Install the unit securely in a location that can bear its weight to prevent it from falling and causing injury.

Do not alter the unit, as it may cause fire, electric shock, injury, or water leakage.

Electrical Safety:

Perform electrical work according to the installation manual using an exclusive circuit. Do not connect other appliances to the circuit to prevent fire or electric shock.

Ground the unit correctly. Do not connect the ground wire to a gas pipe, water pipe, lightning rod, or telephone ground.

Do not damage the wires.

Always shut off the main power when setting up the indoor P.C. board or wiring.

Use the specified wires to securely connect the indoor and outdoor units. Improper connection could cause fire.

Do not use an intermediate connection of the power cord or an extension cord. Do not connect many devices to one AC outlet.

When plugging in the power supply, ensure the plug and outlet are free of dust, blockage, or loose parts.

Securely attach the electrical cover to the indoor unit and the service panel to the outdoor unit.

Depending on the installation area, install a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) circuit breaker to prevent electric shock.

Refrigerant and Piping Safety:

Do not install the unit where flammable gas may leak.

When installing, relocating, or servicing, ensure no substance other than the specified refrigerant (R454B) enters the refrigerant circuit.

Do not discharge refrigerant into the atmosphere. Ventilate the room if a leak occurs during installation.

Use appropriate tools and piping materials for installation, as R454B pressure is 1.6 times higher than R22.

When pumping down the refrigerant, stop the compressor before disconnecting the refrigerant pipes.

When installing the unit, securely connect the refrigerant pipes before starting the compressor.

Fasten a flare nut with a torque wrench as specified. Overtightening can cause breakage and leaks.

Do not use means to accelerate defrosting or cleaning other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

The appliance shall be stored in a room without continuously operating ignition sources (e.g., open flames, gas appliance, electric heater).

Do not pierce or burn the unit.

Pipe-work shall be protected from physical damage.

Indoor Unit Location:

The mounting height should be 5.9 feet (1.8 m) or more from the floor, with up to 7.5 feet (2.3 m) recommended.

The unit must be installed in a room that exceeds the minimum room area (Amin) determined by the total refrigerant amount (M), as shown in the table below.

SYSTEM WITHOUT BRANCH BOX

Choose a location:

Where airflow is not blocked.

Where cool or warm air can spread over the entire room.

On a rigid wall to reduce vibration.

Where it is not exposed to direct sunlight.

Where it can be easily drained.

At least 3 feet (1 m) away from a TV and radio.

As far away as possible from fluorescent and incandescent lights.

Where the air filter can be easily removed and replaced.

Away from other heat or steam sources.

Locations to Avoid:

Avoid installing the air conditioner in the following places:

Where flammable gas could leak.

Where there is an excessive amount of machine oil.

Salty places such as the seaside.

Where sulfide gas is generated (hot springs, sewage).

Where there is high-frequency or wireless equipment.

Where there is emission of high levels of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).

Where small animals may live.

Electrical Specifications

Refrigerant Pipe Specifications

Wiring Requirements:

Use solid or stranded conductor Minches AWG14.

Use double insulated copper wire with 600 V insulation.

Use copper conductors only and follow local electrical codes.

Piping Requirements:

Insulate both refrigerant pipes to prevent condensation, using insulation of the specified thickness.

Refrigerant pipe bending radius must be 4 inches (100 mm) or more.

Accessories (Included with Indoor unit):

Field-Supplied Parts (Not included):

1. Attaching the Installation Plate

Find a stud in the wall to attach the installation plate (1) horizontally by tightening the fixing screws (2) firmly. To prevent vibration, install screws in the holes indicated in the illustration.

2. Drilling the Wall Hole

Determine the hole location and drill a Ø 3 inches (75 mm) hole. The outdoor side should be 6/32 to 9/32 inch (5 to 7 mm) lower than the indoor side. Insert the wall hole sleeve (C).

3. Connecting Wires for Indoor Unit

1. Remove the panel assembly.

2. Place the upper part of the indoor unit on the installation plate.

3. Remove corner box R and the electrical cover.

4. Remove the display P.C. board holder, conduit cover, and conduit plate.

5. Attach the appropriate joint (straight or elbow) to the conduit plate with a lock nut.

6. Process the end of the ground wire and connect it to the ground terminal of the electrical parts box.

7. Process the end of the indoor/outdoor unit connecting wire (A) and attach it to the terminal block. Ensure no mis-wiring. Attach the wire securely so no external force affects the connection.

8. Firmly tighten the terminal screws.

9. Reinstall the conduit plate, conduit cover, and display P.C. board holder.

10. According to the piping direction, remove the shaded part of the appropriate corner box (L or R). Reinstall the electrical cover, corner box, and front panel.

General Pipe Forming:

Place the drain hose below the refrigerant piping. Ensure it is not crowded or bent. When the drain hose passes through a room, wrap it with insulation material.

Left or Left-Rear Piping:

1. Place the refrigerant piping and drain hose together, then firmly apply felt tape (4) from the end.

2. Pull out the drain cap at the back right of the indoor unit.

3. Pull out the drain hose at the back left of the indoor unit.

4. Put the drain cap into the section where the drain hose was, at the rear of the indoor unit.

5. Insert the drain hose fully into the drain pan at the back right of the indoor unit, ensuring it is hooked securely.

6. Insert the drain hose into the wall hole sleeve (C) and attach the upper part of the indoor unit to the installation plate. Shift the unit to the left for easier piping.

7. Use cardboard spacers from the shipping box to lift the indoor unit.

8. Connect the refrigerant piping with the extension pipe (B).

9. Attach the lower part of the indoor unit to the installation plate (1).

Drain Piping:

The drain hose should point downward for easy drainage. If the provided hose is too short, connect it with a field-supplied drain hose (I). Make sure no stress is applied to the connecting portion. Use the attached drain hose only. Do not put the drain pipe directly in a drainage ditch where Ammonia or Sulphuric gas may be generated.

Do not arrange drain piping in the following ways:

Do not raise the hose.

Do not allow the tip of the drain hose to be dipped in water.

1. Cut the copper pipe as straight as possible with a pipe cutter.

2. Remove all burrs from the cut section of the pipe.

3. Remove the flare nuts from the indoor and outdoor units and put them on the pipe.

4. Perform the flaring work. Firmly hold the copper pipe in the dimension shown in the table below. Select dimension ‘A’ from the table according to the tool you use.

5. Check the flared work. If it is defective, cut it off and repeat the procedure. The flared section should be smooth all around, with the inside shining without any scratches, and have an even length all around.

Pipe Connection:

Fasten the flare nut with a torque wrench to the specifications in the flare connection table. Overtightening may cause the nut to break. Be sure to wrap insulation around the piping to prevent burns or frostbite.

For the indoor unit, connect both liquid and gas piping. First align the center, then tighten the first 3 to 4 turns of the flare nut by hand. Use two wrenches to tighten to the specified torque.

For the outdoor unit, connect pipes to the stop valve pipe joint following the same procedure.

Refrigerant Pipe Airtight (Leak) Test:

1. Connect the testing tools. Ensure the stop valves are closed. Add pressure to the refrigerant lines through the service port of the gas stop valve.

2. Pressurize to 601 psig (4.15 MPa). Add pressure gradually, not all at once.

3. If the specified pressure holds for about one day and does not decrease, the pipes have passed the test.

4. If the pressure decreases, there is a gas leak. Find and fix the source of the leak.

Insulation and Taping:

1. Cover piping joints with a pipe cover.

2. For the outdoor unit side, insulate the piping, including the valves.

3. Apply piping tape (G) starting from the connection on the outdoor unit. Use additional insulation if piping is installed in a high-humidity area.

1. Insert the power supply plug into the power outlet and/or turn on the breaker.

2. Press the Emergency Operation Switch (E.O. SW) once for COOL operation, and twice for HEAT operation. The test run will be performed for 30 minutes. If the left lamp of the operation indicator blinks every 0.5 seconds, inspect the indoor/outdoor unit connecting wire for mis-wiring. After the test run, emergency mode (set temperature 75°F [24°C]) will start.

3. To stop the operation, press the E.O. SW several times until all LED lamps turn off.

To check the remote signal reception, press the OFF/ON button on the remote controller and listen for an audible sound from the indoor unit. Press it again to turn the unit off. The compressor will not operate for 3 minutes after stopping to protect it.

The MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC MSZ-EX09NLB is equipped with an auto restart function. If the power supply is cut off during operation (e.g., during a blackout), this function automatically restarts the air conditioner in the previous setting once power is resumed. If this function is not needed, it can be deactivated by a service representative.

When breaking into the refrigerant circuit for repairs or other purposes, it is important that best practice is followed since flammability is a consideration. Adhere to the following procedure:

1. Remove refrigerant.

2. Purge the circuit with inert gas.

3. Evacuate.

4. Purge again with inert gas.

5. Open the circuit by cutting or brazing.

The refrigerant charge must be recovered into the correct recovery cylinders. The system shall be “flushed” with Oxygen-Free Nitrogen (OFN) to render the unit safe. This may need to be repeated several times. Do not use compressed air or oxygen for purging refrigerant systems.

Removal Procedure:

1. Unlock the upper and lower vanes using a thin instrument, then remove the horizontal vanes.

2. Remove the 2 screws that fix the panel assembly.

3. Remove the panel assembly. Be sure to remove its bottom right end first.

Installation Procedure:

1. Install the panel assembly by following the removal procedure in reverse.

2. Press the positions indicated by the arrows to attach the assembly completely to the unit.

3. Install the horizontal vanes.

To pump down the refrigerant, refer to the procedures indicated in the installation manual of the outdoor unit.

WARNING: If the refrigeration circuit has a leak, do not execute the pump down with the compressor. When pumping down the refrigerant, you must stop the compressor before disconnecting the refrigerant pipes. The compressor may burst if air gets into the system.

To connect an interface (e.g., a Wi-Fi module) to your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC MSZ-EX09NLB, follow these steps:

1. Remove the panel and the lower right corner box of the indoor unit.

2. Open the covers of the indoor control P.C. board.

3. Join the interface’s connecting cable to the CN105 connector on the indoor control P.C. board.

4. Attach the cable clamp (provided with the interface) to the thick part of the connecting cable with a 4×16 screw.

5. Hook the connecting cable into the ribs as shown in the installation diagram.

6. Close the covers of the indoor control P.C. board, being careful not to catch the thin part of the connecting cable in the cover. Reinstall the panel and the lower right corner box.

Important Notes:

Do not cut or extend the interface’s connecting cable.

Do not bundle the connecting cable with the power supply cord, indoor/outdoor connecting wire, or ground wire. Keep as much distance as possible between them.

The thin part of the connecting cable should be stored where customers cannot touch it.

WARNING: Fix the connecting cable at the prescribed position securely. Incorrect installation may cause electric shock, fire, and/or malfunction.
