What safety precaution should be taken before activating any function of the chair?

Be sure that all persons and equipment are clear of the table before activating any function. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.


What is the intended use of this product?

This product is intended to be used as a chair / table to provide positioning and support for patients during examinations and procedures conducted by qualified medical professionals (primarily podiatrists).


What precautions are necessary when using high frequency surgical devices or endocardial catheters?

• Use non-conductive material to insulate patient from metal portions of the chair.

• Consult operating instructions for the device before using in conjunction with drawer or upholstery heater.

Failure to comply may result in electric shock or burns to patient.


What should I do if I notice electromagnetic interference between the chair and another device?

This Midmark chair is designed and built to minimize electromagnetic interference with other devices. However, if interference is noticed between another device and this chair:

• Remove interfering device from room

• Plug chair into an isolated circuit

• Increase separation between chair and interfering device

• Contact Midmark if interference persists


What are the transportation and storage conditions for the chair?

Ambient Temperature Range: +41°F to 100°F (+5°C to +38°C)

Relative Humidity: 10% to 90% (non condensing)

Atmospheric Pressure: 500hPa to 1060hPa (0.49atm to 1.05atm)


How should the equipment be disposed of at the end of its life?

At the end of product life, the chair, accessories, and other consumable goods may become contaminated from normal use. Consult local codes and ordinances for proper disposal of equipment, and other consumable goods.


What does the California Proposition 65 warning mean for this product?

This product can expose you to chemicals including Antimony Oxide (Antimony Trioxide), which is known to the state of California to cause cancer.


What should I do if the chair has no power?

If the chair has no power, check and/or replace the chair fuses. The power indicator light is illuminated when power is properly connected to the chair. If the chair has no power, all functions will be inoperable.

To access fuses…

A) Open the fuse holder cover.

B) Remove fuse holder and faulty fuse(s).

C) Install new fuse(s), then replace fuse holder.

Attention: The fuse holder must be installed so that ‘115V’ shows thru the fuse holder window.


How do I connect the foot control?

The foot control cord inlet is located on the base column at the foot end of the chair.

To connect the foot control cord…

A) Slide narrow portion of cord connector into bracket.

B) Connect cord at desired inlet.

C) Tighten locking ring.

Note: The cord connector is “keyed” and must be aligned with inlet.


Is the foot section a seat?

The foot section is not a seat. Patients should sit only on the seat section of the chair. Sitting on the foot section may result in damage or inoperable equipment.


How do I operate the chair’s powered functions (Back/Tilt/Base)?

To operate any of the chair’s powered functions, press and hold the Up or Down arrow button for the desired movement. In the event of a malfunction, press the Stop button to terminate movement.


What safety precaution is needed when the back and tilt functions are used together?

When the Back function is in full down position, and the Tilt function is in full up position, there is less than 2 in (5 cm) of clearance between the back section and the floor. Keep all objects and personnel clear to prevent damage / injury.


How do I activate the QuickChair function?

Press and release the QuickChair button. The QuickChair function moves the table into the “chair position” with the touch of a single button. The functions activated are Base Down / Back Up / Tilt Down. In the event of a malfunction, press the Stop button to terminate movement.


How do I program a chair position on programmable models?

A) Move the chair to desired position.

B) Press the Program button (one “beep”).

C) Press the desired Position button (1, 2 or 3). (three “beeps”)

Tip: You must press the desired Position button within five seconds of pressing the Program button.


How do I recall a programmed chair position?

Press and release the desired Position button (1, 2 or 3). In the event of a malfunction, press the Stop button to terminate movement.


How do I use the QuickExam function on non-programmable models?

The QuickExam function positions the chair for an exam by activating the Base Up and Tilt Up functions simultaneously.

To activate the QuickExam function…

A) Press and hold the QuickExam button.

B) Release button when chair reaches desired position.

Note: In the event of a malfunction, press the Stop button to terminate movement.


How do I extend or retract the foot section?

The foot section can be extended up to 9 in. (23 cm) to accommodate taller patients.

A) Squeeze handle on either side of foot section.

B) Move foot section in / out to desired position.

C) Release handle(s) to lock in position.


How do I access the debris tray?

The retractable debris tray is located directly under the foot section. To access it, pull the tray outward.


How do I rotate the chair arms?

The chair arms can be rotated 90° to allow the patient to mount / dismount the chair.

A) Press the pivot lever.

B) Rotate the chair arm to desired position.

C) Release pivot lever to lock in position.


How do I rotate the chair on rotational models?

A) Press & release the brake pedal.

B) Rotate the chair to desired position.


How do I lock the chair’s rotational base?

Press & release the brake pedal. Note: The base will automatically lock in position after two minutes.


How should the upholstery be cleaned and maintained?

The upholstery is resistant to most medicinal-type stains, but may be damaged by solvents and dyes. Immediately remove any fluids spilled on the upholstery.

Wash your upholstery weekly with a mild liquid soap and water mixture, rinse with clear water and dry completely to remove disinfection cleaner buildup.

Disinfect your upholstery with a solution of standard bleach and water mixed 1 in 10 (10%) or chlorine based cleaners. Follow this with a clear water rinse and thorough drying of material.

To minimize damage caused by disinfectant cleaner residue buildup, do not allow disinfectants to pool on the upholstery surface. Once the approved contact time has been obtained, remove and dry excess liquid remaining on the surface.


How should the painted metal and plastic surfaces be cleaned?

Clean the painted metal and plastic surfaces weekly using a clean soft cloth and mild cleaner.


What periodic maintenance is required for the chair?

Periodically inspect the following areas:

• Power cord(s) should be free of cuts or other visible damage.

• All fasteners should be in place and tightened securely.

• All mechanical functions should operate properly.

Periodically lubricate the back hinge to maintain quiet, smooth, operation (use light machine oil).

Have a qualified service technician inspect your equipment every twelve months.


What should I do if a powered function is not working properly?

Function Problem Correction
Back Up No movement (“beeps”) Contact your authorized service provider.
Back Down No movement (“beeps”) * Activate the Base Up, and Tilt Down functions, then retry Back Down. If problem persists, contact your authorized service provider.
Tilt Up No movement (“beeps”) * Activate the Base Up, and Back Up functions, then retry Tilt Up. If problem persists, contact your authorized service provider.
Tilt Down No movement (“beeps”) * Remove any obstructions under the foot section. Activate the Tilt Up, and Base Up functions, then retry Tilt Down. If problem persists, contact your authorized service provider.
Base Up No movement (“beeps”) Contact your authorized service provider.
Base Down No movement (“beeps”) * Remove any obstructions under the foot section. Activate the Tilt Up, and Back Up functions, then retry Base Down. If problem persists, contact your authorized service provider.

What is the Crash Avoidance System?

This chair is equipped with Midmark’s Crash Avoidance System. The system is designed to prevent injury and equipment damage by disabling certain functions if the chair is in a potential “crash position”. The chair is considered to be in a potential “crash position” when the system’s sensors and switches indicate that the foot section is close to colliding with the floor, or another foreign object. On 647 models, the system also monitors the position of the back section to prevent it from colliding with the floor.

The Crash Avoidance System may affect any combination of the functions listed: Tilt Up / Down, Back Down, Base Down.


Can this equipment be used with flammable anesthetic mixtures?

No. Equipment is not suitable for use in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture. Clarification: Equipment is suitable for use in the presence of oxygen, air, or nitrous oxide.
