How do I install or remove the battery cartridge on the MAKITA DGA518?
To install the battery cartridge: Align the tongue on the battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip it into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in place with a little click. If you can see the red indicator on the upper side of the button, it is not locked completely.
To remove the battery cartridge: Slide it from the tool while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.
CAUTION: Always switch off the tool before installing or removing of the battery cartridge. Hold the tool and the battery cartridge firmly when installing or removing battery cartridge.

How does the tool/battery protection system work on the MAKITA DGA518?
The tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection system. This system automatically cuts off power to the motor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tool or battery is placed under one of the following conditions:
- Overload protection: When the tool is operated in a manner that causes it to draw an abnormally high current, the tool automatically stops without any indication. In this situation, turn the tool off and stop the application that caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turn the tool on to restart.
- Overheat protection: When the tool is overheated, the tool stops automatically and the battery indicator shows the following state. In this situation, let the tool cool before turning the tool on again.
- Overdischarge protection: When the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stops automatically. In this case, remove the battery from the tool and charge the battery.
- Releasing protection lock: When the protection system works repeatedly, the tool is locked. In this situation, the tool does not start even if turning the tool off and on. To release the protection lock, remove the battery, set it to the battery charger and wait until the charging finishes.
How do I operate the switch on the MAKITA DGA518?
To prevent the switch lever from being accidentally pulled, a lock-off lever is provided.
- To start the tool, pull the lock-off lever toward the operator and then pull the switch lever.
- To stop the tool, release the switch lever.

- Pull the lever in direction of the arrow. Then tighten the wheel guard with fastening the screw. Be sure to tighten the screw securely. The setting angle of the wheel guard can be adjusted with the lever.
- To remove wheel guard, follow the installation procedure in reverse.
How do I install or remove a depressed center wheel or flap disc on the MAKITA DGA518?
- Mount the inner flange onto the spindle. Make sure to fit the dented part of the inner flange onto the straight part at the bottom of the spindle.
- Fit the depressed center wheel / flap disc on the inner flange and screw the lock nut onto the spindle.
- To tighten the lock nut, press the shaft lock firmly so that the spindle cannot revolve, then use the lock nut wrench and securely tighten clockwise.
- To remove the wheel, follow the installation procedure in reverse.
CAUTION: Make sure that the mounting part of the inner flange fits into the inner diameter of the depressed center wheel / flap disc perfectly. Mounting the inner flange on the wrong side may result in dangerous vibration.

- Open the lid on the tool.
- Insert the wireless unit to the slot and then close the lid.
- When inserting the wireless unit, align the projections with the recessed portions on the slot.
