What are the general power tool safety warnings?

It is important to read and understand all safety warnings and instructions, as failure to follow them may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury. The work area should be kept clean and well lit to avoid accidents. Power tools should not be operated in explosive atmospheres. Children and bystanders should be kept away while operating a power tool. Power tool plugs must match the outlet, and adapter plugs should not be used with earthed power tools. Body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces should be avoided. Power tools should not be exposed to rain or wet conditions. The cord should not be abused, and should be kept away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. When operating a power tool outdoors, an extension cord suitable for outdoor use should be used. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected supply should be used. Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Personal protective equipment, including eye protection, should always be worn. Prevent unintentional starting by ensuring the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. Do not overreach, and maintain proper footing and balance at all times. Dress properly, and keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Do not force the power tool, and use the correct power tool for the application. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Maintain power tools, and check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.

What are the safety guidelines for battery tool use and care?

Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact.

What are the cordless screwdriver safety warnings?

Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the fastener may contact hidden wiring. Always be sure to have a firm footing and ensure no one is below when using the tool in high locations. Hold the tool firmly. Keep hands away from rotating parts. Do not touch the bit or the workpiece immediately after operation, as they may be extremely hot and could burn the skin.

What are the important safety instructions for the battery cartridge?

Before using the battery cartridge, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the battery charger, battery, and product using the battery. Do not disassemble the battery cartridge. If operating time has become excessively shorter, stop operating immediately to avoid overheating, possible burns, and even an explosion. If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them out with clear water and seek medical attention right away, as it may result in loss of eyesight. Do not short the battery cartridge by touching the terminals with any conductive material, storing the battery cartridge in a container with other metal objects, or exposing the battery cartridge to water or rain. Do not store the tool and battery cartridge in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 50 ゚ C (122 ゚ F). Do not incinerate the battery cartridge, even if it is severely damaged or completely worn out, as it can explode in a fire. Be careful not to drop or strike the battery. Do not use a damaged battery. Follow local regulations relating to disposal of battery. Only use genuine Makita batteries.

What are some tips for maintaining maximum battery life?

Charge the battery cartridge before it is completely discharged. Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge, as overcharging shortens the battery service life. Charge the battery cartridge with room temperature at 10 ゚ C – 40 ゚ C (50 ゚ F – 104 ゚ F). Let a hot battery cartridge cool down before charging it. Charge the battery cartridge if you do not use it for a long period (more than six months).

What do the symbols V, , /min, and r/min represent?

  • V represents volts.
  • represents direct current.
  • /min represents no load speed.
  • r/min represents revolutions or reciprocation per minute.

How do you install or remove the battery cartridge?

Always switch off the tool before installing or removing the battery cartridge. Hold the tool and the battery cartridge firmly when installing or removing the battery cartridge to prevent them from slipping and causing damage or injury. To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the tool while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge. To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip it into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in place with a little click. If you can see the red indicator on the upper side of the button, it is not locked completely. Always install the battery cartridge fully until the red indicator cannot be seen. Do not install the battery cartridge forcibly. If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it is not being inserted correctly.

What is the battery protection system?

Lithium-ion batteries with a star marking are equipped with a protection system. This system automatically cuts off power to the tool to extend battery life. The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tool and/or battery are placed under one of the following conditions: Overloaded, Low battery voltage. If the tool is overloaded, release the trigger switch on the tool and stop the application that caused the tool to become overloaded. Then pull the trigger switch again to restart. If the tool does not start, the battery is overheated. In this situation, let the battery cool before pulling the trigger switch again. If the remaining battery capacity is too low, the tool will not operate. In this situation, remove and recharge the battery.

How do you indicate the remaining battery capacity?

(Only for battery cartridges with “B” at the end of the model number) Press the check button on the battery cartridge to indicate the remaining battery capacity. The indicator lamps light up for a few seconds.

  • Off/Blinking: Charge the battery.
  • Lighted: 0% to 25% remaining capacity.
  • Lighted: 25% to 50% remaining capacity.
  • Lighted: 50% to 75% remaining capacity.
  • Lighted: 75% to 100% remaining capacity.
  • The battery may have malfunctioned.

How does the switch action work?

Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool, always check to see that the switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the “OFF” position when released. To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.

How does the front lamp work?

Pull the switch trigger to light up the lamp. The lamp keeps on lighting while the switch trigger is being pulled. The lamp goes out 10 -15 seconds after releasing the trigger. Use a dry cloth to wipe the dirt off the lens of lamp. Be careful not to scratch the lens of lamp, or it may lower the illumination.

How does the reversing switch action work?

This tool has a reversing switch to change the direction of rotation. Depress the reversing switch lever from the A side for clockwise rotation or from the B side for counterclockwise rotation. When the reversing switch lever is in the neutral position, the switch trigger cannot be pulled. Always check the direction of rotation before operation. Use the reversing switch only after the tool comes to a complete stop. Changing the direction of rotation before the tool stops may damage the tool. When not operating the tool, always set the reversing switch lever to the neutral position.

How do you adjust the depth?

The depth can be adjusted by turning the locator. Turn it in “B” direction for less depth and in “A” direction for more depth. One full turn of the locator equals 1.5 mm (1/16") change in depth. Adjust the locator so that the distance between the tip of the locator and the screw head is approximately 1 mm (0.04") as shown in the figures. Drive a trial screw into your material or a piece of duplicate material. If the depth is still not suitable for the screw, continue adjusting until you obtain the proper depth setting.

How do you install or remove the bit?

Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before carrying out any work on the tool. To remove the bit, pull the locator. Then grasp the bit with a pair of pliers and pull the bit out of the magnetic bit holder. Sometimes, it helps to wiggle the bit with the pliers as you pull. To install the bit, push it firmly into the magnetic bit holder. Then install the locator by pushing it firmly back.

How do you utilize the bit storage?

Fit the bit into the protrusion at the tool.

How do you install or remove the carry hook?

The carry hook is convenient for temporarily hooking the tool. It can be installed on either side of the tool. When removing the carry hook, widen it by pressing its right ends ON BOTH SIDES in the directions of arrow (1) and raise it in the direction of the arrow (2).

How do you perform a screwdriving operation?

Fit the screw on the point of the bit and place the point of the screw on the surface of the workpiece to be fastened. Apply pressure to the tool and start it. Withdraw the tool as soon as the clutch cuts in. Then release the switch trigger. When fitting the screw onto the point of the bit, be careful not to push in on the screw. If the screw is pushed in, the clutch will engage and the screw will rotate suddenly. This could damage a workpiece or cause an injury. Make sure that the bit is inserted straight in the screw head, or the screw and/or bit may be damaged.

What maintenance should be performed on the tool?

Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before attempting to perform inspection or maintenance. Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or the like, as discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.

How do you replace the carbon brushes?

Replace the carbon brushes when they wear down to the limit mark. Keep the carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same time. Use only identical carbon brushes. Use a screwdriver to remove two screws then remove the front cover. Raise the arm part of the spring and then place it in the recessed part of the housing with a slotted bit screwdriver of slender shaft or the like. Use pliers to remove the carbon brush caps of the carbon brushes. Take out the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones and replace the carbon brush caps in reverse. Make sure that the carbon brush caps have fit into the holes in brush holders securely. Reinstall the front cover and tighten two screws securely. To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, carbon brush inspection and replacement, any other maintenance or adjustment should be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers, always using Makita replacement parts.
