The power cord of your LG LW8017ERSM1 is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug. Use this with a standard three-slot (grounding) wall power outlet to minimize the hazard of electric shock. A qualified electrician should check the wall receptacle and circuit to ensure it is properly grounded. DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND) PRONG FROM THE POWER PLUG.

Use of an adapter: The use of an adapter plug is strongly discouraged due to potential safety hazards. If you must use one for a temporary connection, use a UL-listed adapter. The large slot in the adapter must align with the large slot in the receptacle for proper polarity. Attaching the adapter ground terminal to the wall receptacle cover screw only grounds the appliance if the screw is metal, not insulated, and the receptacle is grounded through house wiring. Have a qualified electrician check this.

Disconnect the power cord from the adapter using one hand on each to prevent breaking the ground terminal. Do not use an appliance with a broken adapter plug. For frequent disconnections, replace the wall outlet with a three-slot (grounding) outlet instead of using an adapter.

The LG LW8017ERSM1 contains flammable refrigerant R32 and has special safety precautions. Please follow all advisories:

The LG LW8017ERSM1 should be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code. Below are the electrical data and power cord safety notes.

Power Cord Device:

The power cord includes a current interrupter device with TEST and RESET buttons on the plug. This device should be tested periodically by first pressing the TEST button and then the RESET button. If the TEST button does not trip or the RESET button does not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

Power Supply Requirements (for 120 V models):

• Do not use an extension cord with this window air conditioner.

• Do not use surge protectors or multi-outlet adapters.

• Never push the TEST button during operation as it can damage the plug.

• Do not remove, modify, or immerse the plug. If the device trips, correct the cause before further use.

1. To prevent vibration and noise, make sure the LG LW8017ERSM1 is installed securely and firmly.

2. Install the unit out of direct sunlight.

3. There should be no obstacles, such as a fence or wall, within 20 inches from the back of the cabinet to allow for heat radiation from the condenser.

4. Install the unit slightly tilted so the back is slightly lower than the front (about 1/4 inch). This allows condensed water to flow outside.

5. Install the unit with the bottom between 30 to 60 inches above the floor level.

Window Requirements:

The LG LW8017ERSM1 is designed for installation in standard double-hung windows with actual opening widths from 22 inches to 36 inches. The top and bottom window sashes must open enough to allow a clear vertical opening of 13 inches from the bottom of the upper sash to the inside sill.

Storm Window Requirements:

If your window has a storm window frame, it may prevent the air conditioner from tilting properly for drainage. To fix this:

1. Attach a 1″ x 2″ piece of wood to the inner sill. The wood should be trimmed to fit inside the window frame. The top of this wood shim must be at least 3/4″ higher than the top of the storm window frame. Secure it with nails or screws.

2. If needed, attach another 1″ x 2″ wood strip flush against the back of the inner sill. This will raise the L bracket for proper installation.

1. Align the holes between the upper guide and the top of the cabinet. Install it with 3 type A screws.

2. Insert the top and bottom rails of the curtain panels into the upper and lower panel guides. Fasten the curtain panels to the unit with 8 type A screws. Fasten screws behind the curtain panel. A long screwdriver can make this easier.

3. Cut the window sash seals (adhesive-backed foam) to the proper length. Peel off the backing and attach it to the underside of the window sash and the bottom of the window frame.

4. Open the window and draw a center line on the center of the inner sill. Then, mark lines 8 inches to the left and 8 inches to the right of the center line.

5. Install the L bracket behind the inner window sill as shown, using the 2 provided type A screws. The bracket helps hold the unit securely in place. Ensure the bracket edge is flush against the back of the inner sill.

CAUTION: During the following step, hold the unit firmly until the window sash is lowered to the top channel behind the side panel frames. Personal injury or property damage may result if the unit falls from the window.

1. Set the air conditioner in the window so that it is centered. Place the unit so the front edge of the bottom guide is against the back edge of the sill. Bring the window down so the front edge of the upper guide is in front of the window. Make sure the air conditioner is level or tilting slightly to the outside (about 1/4″).

2. Extend the guide panels to fill the window opening and use 4 type B screws to secure them to the window.

3. Cut the non-adhesive foam strip to the proper length and insert it between the upper window sash and the lower window sash.

4. To prevent broken glass or damage to vinyl or other similarly constructed windows, attach the L bracket to the window sash with a type A screw.

5. Remove the screw from the bottom right of the cabinet. Attach the support bracket using the screw you just removed. Secure the support bracket to the inner window sill using a type B screw.

The LG LW8017ERSM1 can be operated via its control panel or the included wireless remote control. Please remove the protective film from the control panel before use.

• Power: Press to turn the air conditioner ON or OFF.

• Mode: Press to cycle between 4 operation modes: Energy Saver / Cool / Dry / Fan.

• Fan Speed: Press to set the Fan Speed to Low (F1), Medium (F2), or High (F3).

• Timer: Use to set the Delay ON or Delay OFF timer from 1 to 24 hours.

• Temp (Up/Down Arrows): Press to increase or decrease the desired temperature setting. The thermostat can be set between 60 °F–86 °F (16 °C–30 °C).

• Filter Reset: After cleaning the filter, press the Temp Up and Down buttons together on the control panel, or press and hold the designated button on the remote for 3 seconds to turn off the ‘Clean Filter’ light.

• Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Models Only): Enables connection of the air conditioner to the home Wi-Fi.

Press the Mode button to cycle between the four operation modes on your LG LW8017ERSM1:

• Energy Saver: In this mode, the compressor and fan turn off when the set temperature is achieved. The fan turns on approximately every 3 minutes to allow the unit sensor to determine if more cooling is needed. The unit defaults to this mode each time it is switched on (except in Fan mode).

• Cool: Ideal for hot days to cool and dehumidify the room quickly. Use the Temp buttons to set the desired room temperature and the Fan Speed button to set the fan circulation speed.

• Dry: Ideal for rainy and damp days to dehumidify the room rather than cooling it significantly. Humidity is removed by the combination of compressor operation and the fan speed fixed at Low. The compressor and fan turn off once the set temperature is reached. Fan speed cannot be adjusted in Dry mode.

• Fan: In this mode, the fan circulates air but the compressor does not run. Use the Fan Speed button to set the fan speed to High, Medium, or Low. You cannot adjust the set temperature in this mode.

The timer function on the LG LW8017ERSM1 allows you to automatically turn the unit on or off after a set period.

• Delay ON: When the air conditioner is off, you can set it to automatically turn on from 1 to 24 hours later, at its previous mode and fan settings.

• Delay OFF: When the air conditioner is on, you can set it to automatically turn off from 1 to 24 hours later.

Each press of the Timer button advances the timer by 1 hour. After the last press, the display returns to the temperature setting.

The ‘Clean Filter’ LED on your LG LW8017ERSM1 lights up after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the air filter for more efficient operation. After cleaning the filter, you can turn off the light by doing one of the following:

• On the control panel, press the Temp Up (^) and Temp Down (v) buttons together.

• On the remote control, press and hold the Temp Down (v) button for 3 seconds.

You can adjust the control panel brightness and the unit’s buzzer sound using the remote control for your LG LW8017ERSM1.

Using the Light Off Function:

To set the brightness of the control panel (turn it on or off):

• Press and hold the Timer button on the remote control for 3 seconds.

Note: If the display brightness is set to OFF, pressing any button on the remote control will temporarily turn the display on for 5 seconds.

Using the Mute Function:

To turn the unit’s buzzer sound on or off:

• Press and hold the Mode button on the remote control for 3 seconds.

1. Push out the cover on the back of the remote control with your thumb.

2. Insert two new AAA 1.5 V batteries, ensuring the plus (+) and minus (-) poles are facing as marked.

3. Reattach the cover.

NOTE: Two new batteries are supplied with the air conditioner. Do not use rechargeable batteries. To prevent discharge, remove the batteries if the remote is not going to be used for an extended period.

Airflow from your LG LW8017ERSM1 can be adjusted by changing the direction of the louvers.

Adjusting Horizontal Airflow Direction:

The horizontal airflow is adjusted by moving the levers of the vertical louvers to the left or right.

Adjusting Vertical Airflow Direction:

Touch the horizontal louvers to adjust the airflow up or down.

The LG LW8017ERSM1 air conditioner is equipped with a slinger fan. The fan’s outer ring picks up condensed water from the base pan if the water level gets high enough. This water is then picked up by the fan and expelled through the condenser, which makes the air conditioner more efficient.

Before connecting your LG LW8017ERSM1 to the LG ThinQ application, follow these steps:

1. Check the distance between the appliance and your wireless router (Wi-Fi network). If it’s too far, the signal strength will be weak, and registration or installation may fail.

2. Turn off the Mobile data or Cellular Data on your smartphone.

3. Connect your smartphone to the wireless router.

NOTE:

• To verify the Wi-Fi connection, check that the Wi-Fi LED on the control panel is lit.

• The appliance supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only.

• If you have trouble connecting, you may need a Wi-Fi repeater (range extender) to improve the signal strength.

To identify the RF module installed in your LG LW8017ERSM1, refer to the label attached to the appliance. The specifications are as follows:

Check the air filter at least twice a month. Trapped particles can build up, block airflow, and reduce cooling capacity. Before cleaning, disconnect the power supply and wait for the fan to stop.

1. Remove the air filter from the front grille by pulling the filter forward and then up slightly.

2. Wash the filter using lukewarm water below 40 °C (104 °F).

3. Gently shake the excess water from the filter and let it dry before replacing it.

For general cleaning of your LG LW8017ERSM1, follow these steps:

• Air Inlet and Outlet: Remove dust from the air inlet and outlet using a vacuum cleaner.

• Front Grille and Inlet Grille: Wipe with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution.

• Cabinet: Wash the cabinet with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water, then polish using liquid appliance wax.

NOTE: To ensure continued peak efficiency, the condenser coils (outside of the unit) should be checked periodically and cleaned if they are clogged with soot or dirt from the outside air.

You may hear the following sounds from your LG LW8017ERSM1 during normal operation:

1. High Pitched Chatter: Today’s high-efficiency compressors may have a high-pitched chatter during the cooling cycle.

2. Sound of Rushing Air: At the front of the unit, you may hear the sound of rushing air being moved by the fan.

3. Gurgle/Hiss: Gurgling or hissing noise may be heard due to refrigerant passing through the evaporator.

4. Vibration: The unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation.

5. Pinging or Swishing: Droplets of water hitting the condenser during normal operation may cause pinging or swishing sounds.

If your LG LW8017ERSM1 does not start, check the following possible causes:

• The air conditioner is unplugged.
Make sure the air conditioner plug is pushed completely into the outlet.

• The fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped.
Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker.

• Power failure.
If a power failure occurs, turn the mode control to off. When power is restored, wait 3 minutes to restart the air conditioner to prevent tripping of the compressor overload.

• The current interrupter device is tripped.
Press the RESET button on the power cord plug. If the RESET button will not stay engaged, discontinue use and contact a qualified service technician.

If your LG LW8017ERSM1 is not cooling properly, consider these possibilities:

• Airflow is restricted.
Make sure there are no curtains, blinds, or furniture blocking the front of the air conditioner.

• The temp control may not be set correctly.
Set the desired temperature to a level lower than the current temperature.

• The air filter is dirty.
Clean the filter at least every 2 weeks. Refer to the ‘MAINTENANCE’ section.

• The room may have been hot.
When the air conditioner is first turned on, you need to allow time for the room to cool down.

• Cold air is escaping.
Check for open furnace floor registers and cold air returns.

• Cooling coils have iced up.
See the instructions for “Air conditioner freezing up”.

If the cooling coils on your LG LW8017ERSM1 are iced over, it may be because ice is blocking the airflow and obstructing proper cooling. To resolve this, set the mode control to High Fan or High Cool.

• Water drips outside: This is normal during hot, humid weather.

• Water drips indoors: This may happen if the air conditioner is not tilted to the outside. For proper water disposal, make sure the air conditioner slants slightly from the cabinet front to the rear.

• Water collects in base pan: Moisture removed from the air drains into the base pan. This is normal for a short period in areas with little humidity and for a longer period in very humid areas.

If your LG LW8017ERSM1 turns on and off rapidly, check these potential causes:

• Dirty air filter – air restricted.
Clean the air filter.

• Outside temperature extremely hot.
Refer to installation instructions or check with your installer.

If you notice noise when your LG LW8017ERSM1 is cooling, it could be due to:

• Air movement sound.
This is normal. If it is too loud, set the fan to a lower setting.

• Window vibration – poor installation.
Refer to the installation instructions or check with your installer to ensure the unit is securely installed.

If your LG LW8017ERSM1 is not connecting to your Wi-Fi network, check the following:

• The Wi-Fi router is too far from the air conditioner.
Move the router closer to the air conditioner or purchase and install a Wi-Fi repeater (signal booster).

• You do not have permission to use the router or it is incompatible.
Make sure you are selecting the correct wireless router from the list. The router must be set to 2.4 GHz.

If you are having trouble connecting your LG LW8017ERSM1 and smartphone to the Wi-Fi, try these solutions:

• Incorrect Wi-Fi password.
Find the Wi-Fi network connected to your smartphone and remove it, then register your appliance on LG ThinQ again.

• Mobile data is turned on.
Turn off the Mobile data of your smartphone and register the appliance using the Wi-Fi network.

• Incorrect wireless network name (SSID).
The SSID should be a combination of English letters and numbers. Do not use special characters.

• Router frequency is not 2.4 GHz.
Only a 2.4 GHz router frequency is supported. Set your wireless router to 2.4 GHz and connect the appliance. Check with your internet service provider or router manufacturer to confirm.

• Distance between appliance and router is too far.
If the distance is too great, the signal may be weak. Move the router closer to the appliance.

• Application requesting a password during Wi-Fi setup (on certain phones).
Locate the network name starting with “LG” in your phone’s network settings. If the name looks like LGE_Appliance_XXXX, enter XXXX twice as your password (e.g., for LGE_Appliance_8b92, the password would be 8b928b92).
