The power cord on your LG LW1023ERSM may include a current interrupter device. This device should be tested periodically.

1. Press the TEST button on the plug case.

2. Then, press the RESET button.

If the TEST button does not trip, or if the RESET button will not stay engaged, you should discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

WARNING: Never push the TEST button during operation as this can damage the plug. Do not remove, modify, or immerse the plug. If the device trips, the cause should be corrected before further use.

To ensure proper installation and performance of your LG LW1023ERSM, follow these guidelines:

1. Install the unit securely and firmly to prevent vibration and noise.

2. Install the unit out of direct sunlight.

3. Ensure there are no obstacles, like a fence or wall, within 20 inches from the back of the cabinet. This is necessary to allow for heat radiation from the condenser.

4. Install the unit with a slight downward tilt to the outside (about 1/4 inch). This allows condensed water to drain properly.

5. Install the unit so that the bottom is between 30 and 60 inches above the floor level.

NOTE: All supporting parts should be secured to firm wood, masonry, vinyl, fiberglass, or metal. This product is a window air conditioner and requires a standard single-hung or double-hung window for proper installation.

The LG LW1023ERSM is designed for installation in standard double-hung windows with the following dimensions:

• Actual opening width: 22 inches to 36 inches.

• Clear vertical opening: At least 13 inches from the bottom of the upper sash to the inside sill.

A storm window frame can prevent the air conditioner from tilting correctly for proper drainage. To compensate for this, you will need to add a piece of wood.

1. Attach a 1″ x 2″ piece of wood to the inner sill. The wood should be trimmed to a length that fits inside the window frame.

2. The top of this wood shim must be at least 3/4″ higher than the top of the storm window frame. Secure the wood to the sill with nails or screws.

3. If needed, attach another 1″ x 2″ wood strip flush against the back of the inner sill. This will raise the L bracket to the proper height.

Before placing the unit in the window, you need to prepare the chassis.

1. Install Upper Guide: Align the holes between the upper guide and the top of the cabinet. Install it with 3 type A screws.

2. Install Curtain Panels: Insert the top and bottom rails of the curtain panels into the upper and lower panel guides. Fasten the curtain panels to the unit with 8 type A screws. It is recommended to use a long screwdriver for easier installation.

3. Apply Seals: Cut the window sash seals to the proper length. Peel off the backing and attach the adhesive-backed foam to the underside of the window sash and the bottom of the window frame.

4. Mark Sill: Open the window and draw a center line on the center of the inner sill. Then, mark lines 8 inches to the left and 8 inches to the right of the center line.

5. Install L Brackets: Install the L bracket behind the inner window sill as shown in the manual’s diagram, using the 2 provided type A screws. The bracket helps hold the unit securely in place, so ensure the bracket edge is flush against the back of the inner sill.

Follow these steps to install the prepared LG LW1023ERSM unit into the window.

1. Position the Unit: Set the air conditioner in the window so that it is centered. The front edge of the bottom guide should be against the back edge of the sill. Bring the window down so the front edge of the upper guide is in front of the window. Ensure the unit is level or tilting slightly to the outside.

2. Secure Guide Panels: Extend the guide panels to fill the window opening and use 4 type B screws to secure them to the window.

3. Install Foam Strip: Cut the non-adhesive foam strip to the proper length and insert it between the upper window sash and the lower window sash to create a seal.

4. Secure L Bracket: To prevent broken glass or damage to windows, on vinyl or other similarly constructed windows, attach the L bracket to the window frame with a type A screw.

5. Attach Support Bracket: Remove the screw from the bottom right of the cabinet. Attach the support bracket using the screw you just removed. Secure the support bracket to the inner window sill using a type B screw.

The control panel and remote offer the following functions:

• Power: Press to turn the air conditioner ON or OFF.

• Fan Speed: Press to set the Fan Speed to Low (F1), Medium (F2), or High (F3).

• Delay ON/OFF Timer:

– Delay ON: When the unit is off, press the Timer button to set it to automatically turn on from 1 to 24 hours later, at its previous mode and fan settings.

– Delay OFF: When the unit is on, press the Timer button to set it to automatically turn off from 1 to 24 hours later.

Each press of the Timer button advances the timer by 1 hour.

• Temp: Press the up or down arrows to increase or decrease the temperature setting. The thermostat can be set between 60 °F–86 °F (16 °C-30 °C).

• Operation Mode: Press the Mode button to cycle between 4 operation types:

– Energy Saver: The compressor and fan turn off when the set temperature is reached. The fan turns on approximately every 3 minutes to check the room temperature and determine if more cooling is needed.

– Cool: Cools and dehumidifies the room. Use the Temp buttons to set the desired temperature and the Fan Speed button to set fan circulation speed.

– Dry: Dehumidifies the room on rainy or damp days. The fan speed is fixed at Low in this mode. The compressor and fan turn off once the set temperature is reached.

– Fan: Circulates air without cooling (compressor is off). Use the Fan Speed button to set the speed. You cannot adjust the temperature in this mode.

To set the brightness of the control panel, press and hold the Timer button on the remote control for 3 seconds. This will turn the control panel lights on or off. If the display is set to OFF, pressing any button on the remote will temporarily turn the display on for 5 seconds.

To turn the unit’s buzzer sound (beep) on or off, press and hold the Mode button on the remote control for 3 seconds.

The Clean Filter LED lights up after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the air filter. After cleaning the filter, you can turn off the light in one of two ways:

• On the control panel, press and hold the Temp ▼ and Temp ▲ buttons together.

• On the remote control, press and hold the Temp ▲ button for 3 seconds.

The Demand Response (DR) function allows your utility company to control energy usage during peak periods. To override this function, you can do one of the following:

• On the control panel, press the Timer button and Fan Speed button together.

• On the remote control, press and hold the Fan Speed button for 3 seconds.

1. Push out the cover on the back of the remote control with your thumb.

2. Insert two new AAA 1.5 V batteries, making sure the plus (+) and minus (-) poles are facing as marked.

3. Reattach the cover.

NOTE: Do not use rechargeable batteries. To prevent discharge, remove the batteries if the air conditioner will not be used for an extended period.

You can adjust the airflow direction on your LG LW1023ERSM both horizontally and vertically.

• Adjusting Horizontal Airflow: Move the levers of the vertical louvers to the left or right to direct the airflow horizontally.

• Adjusting Vertical Airflow: Touch the horizontal louvers to adjust the airflow up or down.

The LG LW1023ERSM is equipped with a slinger fan. The fan’s outer ring is designed to pick up condensed water from the base pan if the water level gets high enough. This water is then picked up by the fan and expelled through the condenser, which helps to cool the condenser and make the air conditioner more efficient.

Before using the LG ThinQ application, follow these steps:

1. Check the distance between the LG LW1023ERSM and your wireless router (Wi-Fi network). If the distance is too far, the signal strength will be weak, and registration may take a long time or fail.

2. Turn off the Mobile data or Cellular Data on your smartphone.

3. Connect your smartphone to the wireless router.

NOTE: The appliance only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. Check your network frequency with your Internet service provider or wireless router manual.

If your LG LW1023ERSM is equipped with the Smart Diagnosis™ feature, you can transmit troubleshooting data to a smartphone using the LG ThinQ application.

1. Launch the LG ThinQ application on your smartphone.

2. Select the Smart Diagnosis™ feature in the menu.

3. Follow the instructions provided in the LG ThinQ application to diagnose the problem.

Check the air filter at least twice a month. Before cleaning, disconnect the power supply and wait for the fan to stop.

1. Remove the air filter from the front grille by pulling the filter forward and then up slightly.

2. Wash the filter using lukewarm water below 104 °F (40 °C).

3. Gently shake the excess water from the filter and allow it to air dry before replacing it.

To clean the air conditioner unit itself, follow these steps:

• Air Vents: Remove dust from the air inlet and outlet using a vacuum cleaner.

• Grille: Wipe the front grille and inlet grille with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution.

• Cabinet: Wash the cabinet with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water, then polish using liquid appliance wax.

NOTE: To ensure continued peak efficiency, the condenser coils (outside of the unit) should be checked periodically and cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt from the outside air.

The following sounds are normal during the operation of your LG LW1023ERSM:

• High Pitched Chatter: Today’s high-efficiency compressors may have a high-pitched chatter during the cooling cycle.

• Sound of Rushing Air: At the front of the unit, you may hear the sound of rushing air being moved by the fan.

• Gurgle/Hiss: A gurgling or hissing noise may be heard due to refrigerant passing through the evaporator during normal operation.

• Vibration: The unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation.

• Pinging or Swishing: Droplets of water hitting the condenser during normal operation may cause pinging or swishing sounds.

If your LG LW1023ERSM does not start, check the following possible causes and corrective actions:

• The air conditioner is unplugged.

Make sure the air conditioner plug is pushed completely into the outlet.

• The fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped.

Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker.

• Power failure.

If a power failure occurs, turn the mode control to off. When power is restored, wait 3 minutes before restarting the air conditioner to prevent tripping of the compressor overload.

• The current interrupter device is tripped.

Press the RESET button located on the power cord plug. If the RESET button will not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

If your LG LW1023ERSM is not cooling properly, check these potential issues:

• Airflow is restricted.

Make sure there are no curtains, blinds, or furniture blocking the front of the air conditioner.

• The temp control may not be set correctly.

Set the desired temperature to a level lower than the current temperature.

• The air filter is dirty.

Clean the filter at least every 2 weeks. Refer to the ‘MAINTENANCE’ section.

• The room may have been hot.

When the air conditioner is first turned on, you need to allow time for the room to cool down.

• Cold air is escaping.

Check for open furnace floor registers and cold air returns.

• Cooling coils have iced up.

See the troubleshooting section for ‘Air conditioner freezing up’.

The cooling coils on your LG LW1023ERSM are iced over. Ice can block the airflow and obstruct the air conditioner from properly cooling the room. To resolve this, set the mode control to High Fan or High Cool to melt the ice.

Yes, this is normal, especially in hot, humid weather.

If water is dripping inside, it is likely because the air conditioner is not tilted to the outside. For proper water disposal, make sure the air conditioner slants slightly from the cabinet front to the rear.

Moisture removed from the air drains into the base pan. This is normal for a short period in areas with little humidity and normal for a longer period in very humid areas.

This could be due to a couple of reasons:

• Dirty air filter – air restricted. Clean the air filter.

• Outside temperature is extremely hot. Refer to the installation instructions or check with your installer to ensure the unit is appropriately sized and installed for the conditions.

Noise during cooling can be caused by:

• Air movement sound. This is normal. If the sound is too loud, set the unit to a lower FAN setting.

• Window vibration – poor installation. Refer to the installation instructions or check with your installer to ensure the unit is securely installed.

If the room is too cold, the set temperature may be too low. Increase the set temperature on the control panel or remote.

This can happen if the remote control is not located within range or if its signal is obstructed.

• Place the remote control within 20 feet and a 120° radius of the front of the unit.

• Remove any obstruction between the remote and the air conditioner.

If you are having trouble connecting the app, check the following:

• Air conditioner is turned off. Turn the air conditioner on.

• Wireless router is turned off. Turn the router on.

If your air conditioner is not connecting to the Wi-Fi network, here are some possible causes:

• The Wi-Fi router is too far from the air conditioner. Move the router closer to the air conditioner or purchase and install a Wi-Fi repeater (signal booster).

• You do not have permission to use the router or it is incompatible. Make sure you are selecting the correct wireless router from the list. The router must be set to 2.4 GHz.

If you are experiencing connection issues between your LG LW1023ERSM, smartphone, and Wi-Fi network, check the following:

• Incorrect Wi-Fi password: Find the Wi-Fi network connected to your smartphone and remove it, then register your appliance on LG ThinQ again with the correct password.

• Mobile data is turned on: Turn off the Mobile data of your smartphone and register the appliance using the Wi-Fi network.

• Incorrect wireless network name (SSID): The SSID should be a combination of English letters and numbers. Do not use special characters.

• Router frequency is not 2.4 GHz: Only a 2.4 GHz router frequency is supported. Set your wireless router to 2.4 GHz and connect the appliance. Check with your internet service provider or router manufacturer to verify the frequency.

• Distance to router is too far: If the appliance is too far from the router, the signal may be weak. Move the router closer to the appliance.

• Application is requesting a password during Wi-Fi setup (on certain phones):

Locate the network name which starts with “LG” in your phone’s network settings. Note the last part of the network name.

– If the name looks like LGE_Appliance_XX-XX-XX, enter lge12345.

– If the name looks like LGE_Appliance_XXXX, enter that four-digit code twice as your password. For example, if the name is LGE_Appliance_8b92, your password would be 8b928b92.
