How do I prepare the door and check the dimensions before installing the KWIKSET POWERBOLT2?

Follow these steps to prepare your door and confirm its dimensions:

A. Measure to confirm that the hole in the door is either 2-1/8″ (54 mm) or 1-1/2″ (38 mm). Note: Additional door preparation may be required for doors with 1-1/2″ (38 mm) holes.

C. Measure to confirm that the hole in the door edge is 1″ (25 mm).

D. Measure to confirm that the door is either 1-3/8″ or 1-3/4″ (35 mm or 44 mm) thick.

How do I install the latch and strike for the KWIKSET POWERBOLT2?

Step A: Center the latch hole

Hold the latch in front of the door hole, with the latch face flush against the door edge. Check if the slotted hole is centered in the door hole. If it is not centered, rotate the latch face as shown (180°) to extend the latch and re-center it.

Step B: Install the latch

Determine if your door edge is chiseled or not.

If YES (chiseled): Install the latch (A) into the door with the supplied screws (K). Make sure the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.

If NO (not chiseled): Use a flathead screwdriver to lift tabs on the collar of the rectangular face to remove it from the latch. Install the drive-in collar (B) by aligning the tabs with the holes in the collar and ensuring it snaps into place. Pull the collar to test for a tight fit. Then, install the latch into the door with a wood block and hammer. Make sure the slotted hole is at the bottom of the latch.

Step C: Install the strike

Install the strike (C) on the door frame with the supplied screws (P). Make sure the hole in the door frame is drilled a minimum of 1″ (25 mm) deep.

Step D: Check the latch bolt

IMPORTANT: Make sure the latch bolt is fully retracted (in the unlocked position) before proceeding.

Why won’t the KWIKSET POWERBOLT2 keypad respond when touched?

The lock cannot be locked or unlocked by the keypad.

Make sure the lock is programmed with at least one User Code and that the User Codes are not disabled. If needed, restore the lock’s default settings.

The keypad doesn’t respond when touched (no lights are visible and no beeping is heard).

Make sure the cables are properly connected, and make sure the batteries are new and installed correctly.

If the turnpiece will not rotate, remove the interior assembly and make sure the turnpiece is rotated away from the door edge. Ensure the torque blade is in the horizontal position, then reinstall the interior assembly.

Why can’t I lock or unlock the door with the KWIKSET POWERBOLT2, even though it was programmed successfully?

The lock was working fine, but then the latch bolt will no longer move, and the turnpiece will not rotate.

The door handing process may not have been performed. Run the door handing process again. It runs automatically after a successful default setting restore.

The latch bolt will not move and the door still won’t unlock. I see a key in the door. I see a single beep. The turnpiece will not rotate.

The battery is too low to retract the bolt. This can be verified if you see the key in the door, see one beep, and the turnpiece will not rotate. To temporarily unlock the door, use the key or a 9V battery to touch the terminals below the keypad. Then replace the AA batteries.

Why does the latch bolt on my KWIKSET POWERBOLT2 extend, but the door will not lock when I close it?

Make sure the hole in the door frame behind the strike is drilled at least 1 inch (25 mm) deep. Also, check for alignment of the latch with the strike hole. If needed, reposition the strike.
