What is included in the box with the KRAMER TS-PEU?

When you purchase the KRAMER TS-PEU, you will find the following items in the box:

1 KRAMER TS-PEU Ethernet PoE Extender

1 Quick start guide

What do the indicator LEDs on the front panel of the KRAMER TS-PEU mean?

The front panel of the KRAMER TS-PEU has the following LEDs:

LINK IN/OUT LEDs: These green LEDs light up to indicate that the PoE IN or PoE OUT port is connected.

POWER LED: This green LED lights up to indicate that the KRAMER TS-PEU is powered on.

What are the functions of the connectors and switches on the rear panel of the KRAMER TS-PEU?

The rear panel of the KRAMER TS-PEU features the following:

LINK OUT RJ-45 Connector: This port connects to an Ethernet Powered Device (PD) such as an IP camera, or to the LINK IN port of another KRAMER TS-PEU in a cascaded setup.

LINK IN RJ-45 Connector: This port connects to a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) device such as a PoE switch, or to the LINK OUT port of a previous KRAMER TS-PEU in a cascaded setup.

DIP-switches: This switch is used to set the KRAMER TS-PEU to either Local or Remote mode depending on the application.

How do I mount the KRAMER TS-PEU?

To mount your KRAMER TS-PEU, follow these steps:

Step 1. Attach the rubber feet and place the unit on a flat surface.

Step 2. Alternatively, mount the unit in a rack using a recommended rack adapter.

What are the important safety instructions for operating the KRAMER TS-PEU?

Please observe the following safety instructions when using your KRAMER TS-PEU:

Caution: There are no operator serviceable parts inside the unit.

Warning: Disconnect the power from the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) before installing or moving the KRAMER TS-PEU.

Warning: Do not open the unit. High voltages can cause electrical shock. Servicing should be performed by qualified personnel only.

Always place the unit on a level, sturdy surface to prevent it from falling.

Do not expose the unit to rain, moisture, or install it near water.

Ensure the installation environment is within the recommended operating temperature and humidity range.

To prevent a fire hazard, do not block or obstruct the unit’s ventilation slots.

How do I connect a single KRAMER TS-PEU unit?

To set up a single KRAMER TS-PEU to extend an Ethernet connection, follow these steps:

Step 1. Connect a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) device, such as a PoE switch, to the LINK IN RJ-45 port on the KRAMER TS-PEU.

Step 2. Connect a Powered Device (PD), such as an IP camera, to the LINK OUT RJ-45 port on the KRAMER TS-PEU.

Step 3. Ensure the DIP-switch on the rear panel is set to Local. This is the default setting.

How do I cascade multiple KRAMER TS-PEU units to extend the Ethernet range further?

You can cascade up to 7 KRAMER TS-PEU units to extend the Ethernet and PoE range up to 800 meters. Follow this procedure:

Step 1. Connect your Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), like a PoE switch, to the LINK IN port of the first KRAMER TS-PEU unit.

Step 2. Set the DIP-switch on this first unit to the Local position.

Step 3. Connect the LINK OUT port of the first unit to the LINK IN port of the second KRAMER TS-PEU unit.

Step 4. Set the DIP-switch on this second unit to the Remote position.

Step 5. If you are adding more units, repeat steps 3 and 4 for each subsequent unit, connecting LINK OUT to LINK IN and setting the DIP-switch to Remote for all additional units.

Step 6. Connect your Powered Device (PD), like an IP camera, to the LINK OUT port of the final KRAMER TS-PEU in the chain.

When should I set the DIP-switch on the KRAMER TS-PEU to ‘Local’ or ‘Remote’?

The DIP-switch setting on your KRAMER TS-PEU depends on its role in your setup:

Local Mode: Use this setting for a single KRAMER TS-PEU installation. It is also used for the very first unit in a cascaded chain that is connected directly to the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE). ‘Local’ is the default setting.

Remote Mode: Use this setting for all subsequent KRAMER TS-PEU units in a cascaded chain (units 2 through 7).

What should I do if my KRAMER TS-PEU has no power?

If the POWER LED on your KRAMER TS-PEU is not lit, it indicates a lack of power. The possible cause is that the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) device that is supposed to be powering it is not connected or is not switched on.

To resolve this, check the cable connection to the PSE device and ensure that the device is switched on and providing PoE.

What steps can I take if the Powered Device (PD) connected to my KRAMER TS-PEU does not receive power?

If a Powered Device (PD), like an IP camera, connected to the LINK OUT port of your KRAMER TS-PEU is not receiving power, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Check the cable: The connecting cable between the KRAMER TS-PEU and the PD may be faulty. Try using a different, known-working Ethernet cable.

Check PD compatibility: The PD itself may not be PoE compatible. Verify that the device is designed to be powered over Ethernet.

How can I troubleshoot a lack of Ethernet connection on my KRAMER TS-PEU?

If you are not getting an Ethernet data connection through your KRAMER TS-PEU, consider the following potential issues and solutions:

Incorrect DIP-switch setting: In a cascaded setup, the DIP-switches must be set correctly. The first unit connected to the PSE must be set to ‘Local’, and all subsequent units must be set to ‘Remote’. Check that the DIP-switch is set according to your application.

Faulty network cable: The network cable connected to the LINK IN or LINK OUT port may be faulty. Try replacing the cable with another one to see if the connection is established.
