Preparation Tasks:

CAUTION: When replacing units, receive instructions from a customer engineer, read the User’s Guide completely, and perform tasks in the specified order with appropriate tools. Do not perform tasks not described in the guide. Failure to follow the order or use correct tools could result in injury or damage.

CAUTION: Be careful when handling the fusing unit as it can be very hot and could cause a burn.

Unit Replacement Tasks:

WARNING: Keep the plastic bag away from babies and children. The thin film may cling to the nose and mouth and prevent breathing. This bag is not a toy.

WARNING: Do not drop metal pieces like clips, staples, or screws inside the product. They could cause a short-circuit, resulting in an electric shock or a fire.

WARNING: Ensure cables are not pinched or damaged, as this could cause an electric shock or a fire due to electric leakage.

CAUTION: Do not place a removed unit on an unstable table, sloped surface, or a location with excessive shocks or vibrations. It could fall and cause personal injury.

CAUTION: Pay careful attention to the surroundings when placing the removed unit. Protruding portions, cords, or wires may cause falling or personal injury.

Please follow these precautions for the power plug:

WARNING:

Do not unplug or plug in the power cord with a wet hand, as you could receive an electrical shock.

Plug the power cord all the way into the power outlet. Failure to do this could result in a fire or an electrical shock.

CAUTION:

Do not tug the power cord when unplugging. Tugging the cord could damage it, resulting in a fire, electrical shock, or breakdown.

Do not place any objects around the power plug, as it may be difficult to pull out in an emergency.

Remove the power plug from the outlet more than once a year and clean the area between the plug terminals. Dust that accumulates between the terminals may cause a fire.

WARNING:

If the product becomes inordinately hot, emits smoke, or has an unusual odor or noise, immediately turn OFF the power switch, unplug the power cord from the power outlet, and then call your Technical Representative or authorized service representative. Continuing to use it could result in a fire or electrical shock.

If the product has been dropped or its cover damaged, immediately turn OFF the power switch, unplug the power cord from the outlet, and then call your Technical Representative or authorized service representative. Continuing to use it could result in a fire or electrical shock.

CAUTION:

The inside of this product has areas subject to high temperature, which may cause burns. When checking the inside of the unit for a replacement, do not touch the locations (around the fusing unit, etc.) indicated by a “Caution HOT” label. A burn could result.

Follow these steps to install the Envelope Fusing Unit EF-107. Be aware that the fusing unit can be extremely hot.

Step 1. Turn off the machine’s sub and main power switches, then unplug the power cord from the outlet. Be sure to turn off the sub power switch first.

Step 2. Open the front door.

Step 3. To pull out the ADU drawer, push the lock of the ADU release lever M1 to the left, then turn the ADU release lever M1 counterclockwise.

Step 4. Open the paper exit guide while releasing the lever M6 at the bottom. Loosen the screw (1 piece).

Step 5. Pull out the fixing plate forward.

Step 6. Holding the handles on the rear and front sides of the old fusing unit with both hands, slide the unit forward to the position of the arrow mark.

Step 7. Holding the handles on the rear and front sides of the fusing unit with both hands, remove the fusing unit. Place the removed unit on a flat surface.

Step 8. Holding the handles on the front and rear sides of the new fusing unit with both hands, set the new fusing unit on the fixing position, aligning it with the arrow mark.

Step 9. Holding the handles, slide the new fusing unit until it reaches the rear side. Return the fixing plate to its original position.

Step 10. Tighten the screw (1 piece) and close the exit section. Insert the ADU drawer.

Step 11. Raise the ADU release lever M1 by turning it clockwise.

Step 12. Close the front door.

Step 13. Store the removed fusing unit in the empty packaging of the new fusing unit. Please wait until the old fusing unit gets cold before storing it.

The auxiliary parts required vary by envelope size. The general installation process begins with opening the upper door and removing the holding paper by sliding it in the arrowed direction.

For C5, C6/C5, or 6×9 1/2 Envelopes:

Step 1. Open the upper door and remove the holding paper.

Step 2. Install the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A]. Align its positioning pin with the installation hole of the tray and its detent with the groove on the back end guide.

Step 3. Align the adjusting block assies (2 pieces) to the C5, C6/C5, and 6×9 1/2 marks on the indicating label and install them.

Step 4. Install the tip auxiliary guide/rear assy [C] and tip auxiliary guide/front assy [C] to the paper guide side plate. Align the installation hole with the positioning pin and the cutout with the positioning collar.

Step 5. Align the bottom auxiliary plate assy [D] with the mark line on the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A]. Align the edges and install.

Step 6. Install the guide shaft to the back edge guide base of the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A].

Step 7. Close the upper door.

For K2 (240 x 332 mm) Envelopes:

Step 1. Open the upper door and remove the holding paper.

Step 2. Install the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A] as described above.

Step 3. Align the adjusting block assies (2 pieces) to the K2 mark on the indicating label and install them.

Step 4. Install the guide shaft to the back edge guide base of the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A].

Step 5. Close the upper door.

For N4 (90 x 205 mm) or N3 (120 x 235 mm) Envelopes:

Step 1. Open the upper door and remove the holding paper.

Step 2. Install the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A] as described above.

Step 3. Align the adjusting block assies (2 pieces) to the N4 and N3 marks on the indicating label and install them.

Step 4. Install the side auxiliary guide assy [B] (2 pieces) to the paper guide side plate, aligning the installation holes with the positioning screws.

Step 5. Install the guide shaft to the back edge guide base of the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A].

Step 6. Close the upper door.

For K1 (270 x 382 mm) or K0 (287 x 382 mm) Envelopes:

Step 1. Open the upper door and remove the holding paper.

Step 2. Install the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A]. First, check the curl direction at the leading edge of the envelope. Envelopes with 8 mm or more curl are not guaranteed.

Step 3. Hold the flap of the envelope and let it droop vertically.

Step 4. Align the adjusting block assies (2 pieces) to the K1 and K0 marks on the indicating label and install them.

Step 5. Align the bottom auxiliary plate assy [D] with the mark line on the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A]. Be sure to move the back edge guide base to the end edge. Then, install the plate.

Step 6. Close the upper door.

To use paper other than envelopes, you must replace the fusing unit and remove the installed auxiliary parts.

Removing the Envelope Fusing Unit EF-107:

To remove the Envelope Fusing Unit EF-107 from the main body, follow the installation procedure in reverse.

Removing Parts from the Tray (Large Capacity Unit):

To remove the auxiliary parts from the tray, follow the installation procedure for those parts in reverse.

Envelopes loaded into the tray must meet the following specifications:

Loading Orientation: Open the flap and position it on the trailing side in the feeding direction.

Recommended Envelope Type: It is recommended to use L-seam or side seam envelopes; print results may be blurred if tabs overlap with the print side.

Unsuitable Envelopes:

Envelopes with a film window

Envelopes with a double-stick tape or release coated paper on the flap

The loading procedure depends on the paper tray being used.

Loading Envelopes in Tray 5 of Paper Feeder Unit PF-707m:

Step 1. Pull out tray 5.

Step 2. Widen the side guides and rear guide.

Step 3. Place envelopes with the print side up. Align the envelopes to the left side of the tray with the flaps on the right.

Step 4. Align the side guides and rear guide to the edge of the envelopes. Do not apply excessive force.

Step 5. Push in tray 5 until it locks into place.

Loading Envelopes in Large Capacity Unit LU-202m/LU-202XLm:

The general procedure for all supported envelope sizes in this unit is as follows:

Step 1. Open the upper door.

Step 2. Place the envelopes on the bottom auxiliary guide assy.

Step 3. Adjust the guide shaft and/or back edge restriction plate to the size of the envelope.

Step 4. Adjust both paper guide side plates to the size of the envelope.

Step 5. Close the upper door.

Special Instructions for K2 Envelopes (240 x 332 mm):

Bend and set the envelope to ensure both sides of the leading edge and the flaps do not droop.

If jams occur frequently with a small number of K2 envelopes (80 g/m² or less), remove the front edge lift-up materials from the side of the bottom auxiliary guide assy [A] and reinstall them on the top as shown in the guide.

With the Envelope Fusing Unit EF-107 installed, “Envelope Only” is displayed on the MACHINE screen.

To copy or print on envelopes, the paper setting for the tray must be modified from [Paper Setting] on the Machine Screen or Copy Screen.

Key points for envelope printing:

Tray Selection: With Multi Bypass Tray MB-509 installed, only the bypass tray can be selected. With Paper Feeder Unit PF-707m, only tray 5 can be selected. With Large Capacity Unit LU-202m/LU-202XLm, only tray 3 can be selected.

Automatic Settings: The paper type and size are automatically fixed to [Envelope] and [Custom].

Custom Size: The width and length of envelopes can be entered in the custom size setting.

Print Side: The print side is automatically limited to simplex, and the output side to Face Up.
