If you smell gas, follow these instructions:

• Do not try to light any appliance.

• Do not touch any electrical switch.

• Do not use any phone in your building.

• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency or the gas supplier.

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, injury to persons, or damage when using the cooktop, follow basic precautions, including the following:

• WARNING: NEVER use this appliance as a space heater to heat or warm the room. Doing so may result in carbon monoxide poisoning and overheating of the cooktop.

• CAUTION: Do not store items of interest to children in cabinets above the cooktop; children climbing on the cooktop to reach items could be seriously injured.

• Proper Installation: The cooktop, when installed, must be electrically grounded in accordance with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA70 or the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1. Be sure the cooktop is properly installed and grounded by a qualified technician.

• This cooktop is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for your protection against shock hazard and should be plugged directly into a properly grounded receptacle. Do not cut or remove the grounding prong from this plug.

• Disconnect the electrical supply before servicing the cooktop.

• Injuries may result from the misuse of the cooktop such as stepping, leaning, or sitting on the top surface.

• Maintenance: Keep cooktop area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.

• Storage on the cooktop: Flammable materials should not be stored on or near surface units.

• Top burner flame size should be adjusted so it does not extend beyond the edge of the cooking utensil.

Your KITCHENAID KFGS366 has electric igniters that automatically light the surface burners when the control knobs are turned to LITE.

To Light a Burner:

1. Push in and turn the control knob counterclockwise to LITE. All surface burners will click, but only the burner corresponding to the knob will produce a flame.

2. Turn the knob to any setting between HI and LO.

Before setting a control knob, place filled cookware on the grate. Do not operate a burner with empty cookware or without cookware on the grate. Visually check that the burner has lit. If it does not ignite, listen for a clicking sound. If you don’t hear the igniter click, turn the burner off and check for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

REMEMBER: When the cooktop is in use, the entire cooktop area may become hot.

During the cooking cycle, if one or more burners power off due to external causes (such as a water spillage or wind), the ignition system will automatically turn on to re-ignite the flame. When the flame comes back on, the system will stop sparking.

On some models, if the flame does not recover within 4 seconds, the cooktop will lock. The Cooktop Lock indicator light will turn on and a long beep will sound. To unlock it, turn all control knobs to the Off position. Check that the burners are clean before restarting.

In case of a prolonged power failure, the surface burners on your KITCHENAID KFGS366 can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn the control knob counterclockwise to LITE. After the burner lights, turn the knob to your desired setting.

The Cooktop Lock helps to avoid unintended use of the surface burners. If a control knob is turned to Lite when the Cooktop Lock is on, you will hear clicking and may see the igniter sparking, but the burner will not light.

To activate:

Turn off all burners and touch the lock key for 3 seconds. The Cooktop Lock Indicator Light will turn on and 1 long beep will sound.

To deactivate:

Touch the lock key for 3 seconds. The indicator light will turn off and 1 long beep will sound.

Tones are audible signals that indicate the following:

One Long Beep: Activation/deactivation of the Cooktop Lock function.

Three Short Beeps: Invalid operation, such as attempting to lock or unlock the cooktop while one or more burners are on.

The Hot Surface Indicator Light will glow as long as any surface cooking area is too hot to touch, even after the surface cooking area(s) is turned off. If a power failure occurs while the cooktop is on, the light will remain on after power is restored until the cooktop has cooled completely. After a power failure is restored, the light can stay on for up to 30 minutes, especially after first installation or if the cooktop was still cooling during the outage.

IMPORTANT: Before cleaning, make sure all controls are off and the cooktop is cool. Do not use oven cleaners, bleach, or rust removers.

1. Remove the burner cap from the burner base and clean according to the “General Cleaning” section.

2. Clean the gas tube opening with a damp cloth. Gas must flow freely through the gas tube opening for the burner to light properly. Keep this area free of soil.

3. Clean clogged burner ports with a straight pin. Do not enlarge or distort the port. Do not use a wooden toothpick or clean in a dishwasher.

4. Gently clean the igniter with a damp cloth.

5. Replace the burner cap, making sure it is properly aligned and centered with the burner base. An incorrectly placed cap may result in poor ignition or uneven flames.

For the Center Burner:

1. Gently clean the igniter, including over and under the edge of the metal cap and base, with a damp cloth.

2. Reassemble the center burner. Align the locator pin with the locator hole in the outer burner cap to ensure proper assembly.

3. Replace the inner burner cap. NOTE: The brass parts of the center burner will change color with use; this is normal.

4. Turn on the burner. If it does not light, check cap alignment. If it still does not light, do not service it yourself; contact a trained repair specialist.

When canning for long periods on your KITCHENAID KFGS366, alternate the use of surface burners between batches. This allows time for the most recently used areas to cool.

• Center the canner on the grate.

• Do not place the canner on 2 surface burners at the same time.

Ideal cookware for your KITCHENAID KFGS366 should have a flat bottom, straight sides, and a well-fitting lid. The material should be of medium-to-heavy thickness. Rough finishes may scratch the cooktop. While aluminum and copper are excellent heat conductors, they can leave permanent marks if used as a base on the grates.

Use the following chart as a guide for cookware material characteristics:

IMPORTANT: Before cleaning, ensure all controls are off and the cooktop is cool. Always follow label instructions on cleaning products. Soap, water, and a soft cloth or sponge are suggested first unless otherwise noted.

STAINLESS STEEL:

To avoid damage, do not use soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, Cooktop Polishing Creme, steel-wool pads, or gritty washcloths. Rub in the direction of the grain. Use a liquid detergent or all-purpose cleaner, rinse with clean water, and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Use vinegar for hard water spots.

COOKTOP CONTROLS (KNOBS):

Do not use steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or oven cleaner. Do not soak knobs or clean them in the dishwasher. Pull knobs straight away from the control panel to remove for cleaning with soap and water. Ensure knobs are in the Off position when replacing.

CONTROL PANEL:

To avoid damage, do not use abrasive cleaners, steel-wool pads, or gritty washcloths. Use a glass cleaner and a soft cloth or sponge, applying the cleaner to the cloth, not directly on the panel.

GLASS CONTROL AREA (on some models):

To avoid damage, do not use steel wool, abrasive powder cleansers, chlorine bleach, rust remover, or ammonia. Wipe with a clean, wet cloth or sponge and dry thoroughly.

PORCELAIN-COATED GRATES AND CAPS:

Clean food spills containing acids (like vinegar and tomato) as soon as the cooktop is cool. To avoid chipping, do not bang grates and caps against each other. Do not clean in a Self-Cleaning cycle or dishwasher. Use a nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad and mildly abrasive cleanser.

SURFACE BURNERS:

See the “Sealed Surface Burners” cleaning instructions.

If your KITCHENAID KFGS366 will not operate, check the following:

• Is the power supply cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

• Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breaker tripped? Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. If the problem continues, call an electrician.

• Is the cooktop properly connected to the gas supply? Contact a service technician or see Installation Instructions.

If the surface burners will not operate, try these solutions:

• Is this the first time the surface burners have been used? Turn on any one of the surface burner knobs to release air from the gas lines.

• On some models, is the cooktop lock activated? To deactivate, touch the lock key for 3 seconds.

• Is the control knob set correctly? Push the knob in before turning to a setting.

• Are the burner ports clogged? See the “Sealed Surface Burners” cleaning section.

• Is the main gas shutoff valve in the off position? See the Installation Instructions.

If the burner flames are not performing correctly, check the following:

• Are the burner ports clogged? See the “Sealed Surface Burners” section for cleaning instructions.

• On models with caps, are the burner caps positioned properly? Ensure they are correctly seated on the burner base.

• Is propane gas being used? The cooktop may have been converted improperly. Contact a service technician.

If the burner is making popping noises, it may be wet or dirty. Clean and/or let the burner dry completely.

If this is the first time the cooktop has been plugged in or there has been a power failure, the hot surface indicator can stay on for up to 30 minutes. This is a normal function. See the “Hot Surface Indicator Light” section in the “Cooktop Controls” section for more details.

This may be caused by improperly sized cookware. Use cookware that is about the same size as the surface cooking area, element, or surface burner. Cookware should not extend more than 1/2″ (1.3 cm) outside the cooking area.

If your cooking results are not as expected, verify the following:

• Is the proper cookware being used? See the “Cookware” section for recommendations.

• Is the control knob set to the proper heat level? Refer to the “Cooktop Controls” section for guidance.

• Is the cooktop level? Level the cooktop according to the Installation Instructions.
