How do I set up the keyboard for Windows?

If you are a Windows user, please find the appropriate keycaps in the box, then follow the instructions below to find and replace the following keycaps:

1. Locate the Windows-specific keycaps (usually Alt and Windows keys).

2. Use the included keycap puller to gently remove the default Mac keycaps (option, command).

3. Align the Windows keycaps with the corresponding switches and press down firmly to install them.

4. Ensure the OS toggle switch on the back of the keyboard is set to Windows/Android.


How do I connect the keyboard via Bluetooth?

1. Switch the toggle on the back of the keyboard to the Bluetooth setting.

2. Press and hold the fn + 1 keys for 4 seconds. The Bluetooth indicator will flash rapidly for 3 minutes to signal pairing mode.

3. On your computer or device, search for Bluetooth devices.

4. Select the device named “Keychron Q1 Pro” and connect to it.

5. The Bluetooth indicator light will turn off once pairing is successful.

Note: This keyboard supports pairing up to 3 devices simultaneously via key combination “fn” + “1” / “fn” + “2” / “fn” + “3”. Short press these combinations to switch between paired devices.


How do I connect the keyboard using the cable?

1. Switch the toggle on the back of the keyboard to the Cable setting.

2. Connect the USB cable to the keyboard’s USB Type-C port.

3. Connect the other end of the cable to your computer’s USB port (use the adapter if necessary).

4. The keyboard will be ready to use, and the backlighting will turn on.

*Under Wired Mode, the keyboard will not enter into Battery Saver Mode.


How do I use the VIA Key Remapping Software?

Please visit caniusevia.com to download the latest VIA software to remap the keys. If the VIA software cannot recognize your keyboard, please reach out to Keychron support for instructions. (VIA only works when the keyboard is connected by wire to the computer.)


How do the keyboard layers work?

There are four layers of key settings on the keyboard:

Layer 0 and Layer 1 are for the Mac system.

Layer 2 and Layer 3 are for the Windows system.

If your system toggle is switched to Mac, then layer 0 will be activated by default. Layer 1 is accessed by pressing the fn/MO(1) key.

If your system toggle is switched to Windows, then layer 2 will be activated by default. Layer 3 is accessed by pressing the fn/MO(3) key.

Remember that if you are using it in Windows mode, please make changes to the layer 2 instead of the top layer (the layer 0) when using VIA software. This is a common mistake people make.


How do I control the keyboard’s backlight?

Change Lighting Effect: Press fn + Q.

Turn Backlight On/Off: Press fn + tab.

Increase Backlight Brightness: Press fn + W.

Decrease Backlight Brightness: Press fn + S.

Increase Light Effect Speed: Press fn + T.

Decrease Light Effect Speed: Press fn + G.

When backlighting is on, press the dedicated backlight key (often depicted with a lightbulb icon, location may vary based on specific layout/layer) to switch among different lighting effects.


How do I perform a factory reset?

If you encounter issues, follow these steps for a factory reset:

1. Plug in the power cable and switch the keyboard to Cable mode.

2. Factory reset the keyboard by pressing fn + J + Z simultaneously for 4 seconds.

3. (Optional, for firmware flashing) Download the correct firmware and QMK Toolbox from the Keychron website.

4. (Optional) Switch the keyboard to OFF mode and remove the space bar keycap to find the reset button on the PCB.

5. (Optional) Hold the reset button on the PCB first, then switch the keyboard toggle to Cable mode. Release the reset key, and the keyboard will enter DFU mode.

Plug the cable into a USB port and plug the other end into the keyboard port. Charging Indicator: A red light will stay on while charging; Fully charged in around 3 hours, a green battery indicator will appear.

*The Keychron keyboard is compatible with all USB ports. Please use a 5V 1A adapter or USB 3.0 for the best performance. The Keychron Q1 Pro can be charged in Bluetooth/on/off mode.

How do I use the OS Toggle Switch?

NOTE: Functions of certain multimedia key may be disabled due to compatibility, versions, brands and drivers of Windows/Android OS. It’s also recommended not to switch OS frequently as it may impact keyboard operations.


What should I do if I’m unable to pair the keyboard to a device?

Confirm that the device you’re trying to pair with is Bluetooth-capable. If so, restart the device and try pairing it with the keyboard again.

Note: On a Windows computer, a new Bluetooth connection will sometimes require additional software updates—a process that may still be ongoing after a message appears indicating a successful completion. Wait at least 20 minutes after pairing to make sure all updates are completed before restarting the computer.

Confirm that the device is configured to accept Bluetooth connections (Windows) and supports an external keyboard (HID profile).

Go to Bluetooth Devices > Open Settings and select the following:

Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer

Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer

Alert me when a Bluetooth device wants to connect


What should I do if my keyboard isn’t working?

For the computer/smartphone:

Go to your device Bluetooth settings > Select the keyboard and remove/delete/unpair it.

Then restart your device.

What if the Bluetooth connection is interrupted within 10 meters?

Check if the keyboard is resting on a metal surface that can interfere with the Bluetooth signal. Move it off the metal surface if necessary.

Why are third-party input tools not compatible with the keyboard?

Due to compatibility, versions, brands and drivers of Windows/Android OS, functions of third-party input tools may be affected while using the keyboard. Please make sure your operating system and drivers are up to date.
