JOHN DEERE MT-72 (01) PDF SUMMARY:

How do you determine “Right,” Left," Front," or “Rear” locations on the John Deere Snow Plow?

“Right,” Left," Front," or “Rear” locations are determined by facing the direction machine will travel.

How do you operate the John Deere Snow Plow?

The operator should decide on the best method of plowing, considering the conditions at hand. ANALYZE the work to be done. There are times when it is better to angle the blade; at other times, straight plowing will do the best job.

How is the blade raised or lowered?

The blade may be easily raised or lowered by the simple movement of the tractor hydraulic control lever. The blade may be stopped at any desired level between full transport and lowered position to give the most efficient and satisfactory service.

How do you adjust the blade angle?

The blade is easily angled right or left, or set straight, by inserting blade brace pins in the proper holes on either side of the main frame.

What is the cutting width of the blade?

The blade will cut a path 90 inches wide when in the straight position and approximately 86 inches wide when fully angled right or left.

How does the safety trip work?

Two springs control the trip action of the plow blade. When the blade strikes a stone or other object, it trips forward, clears the object, and immediately returns to its upright plowing position.

How can the blade be used for other tasks besides snow plowing?

A 1/2-inch bolt, pin, or rivet may be inserted through the holes provided in the telescoping pipe braces. This will prevent the blade from tripping, and thus the blade may be used for back filling, leveling loose sand or gravel, and other light pushing work.

What is the purpose of the depth shoe attachment?

The depth shoes are especially useful where soft earth conditions are encountered or where uneven surfaces are to be plowed. They are adjustable for various plowing heights.

How do you detach the snow plow from the tractor?

  1. Lower the blade to the ground.
  2. Remove the two lift arm extensions from the rear of the tractor by taking out the machine bolts.
  3. Remove sheave pins, drop cables, replace sheaves, and pins.
  4. Drop the frame by removing the two strap locks which hold the frame to the hitch shaft.
  5. Back tractor front wheels over rear frame angle.
  6. Remove frame support, frame support brackets, and braces as a unit. This leaves only the sheave angle and braces on the front of the tractor. This unit need not be removed unless a cultivator or other front mounting implement is to be attached.

How do you attach the snow plow to the tractor?

  1. Drive tractor front wheels over rear frame angle.
  2. Install frame support to tractor with the two carriage bolts through the frame support brackets.
  3. Attach frame support braces.
  4. Attach frame to hitch shaft by means of the two strap locks.
  5. Remove sheave pins, feed cables over sheaves, and replace pins and cotters.
  6. Extend cables and attach to lift arms at the rear of the tractor. If necessary, loosen cable clamps and adjust so that blade will drop an inch or so below front wheel level when plowing.

How should the cables be adjusted?

If necessary, loosen cable clamps, and adjust so that blade will drop an inch or so below front wheel level when plowing.

What should you do before assembling the snow plow?

Cut all wires and lay out parts.

What should you refer to for illustrations on how to attach the Snow Plow to John Deere Models?

Refer to Figures 4-8 for illustrations showing how to attach the Snow Plow to John Deere Models “A” or “60,” “B” or “50,” “G,” and “MT” or ”40" Tractors.

How do you detach the two frame support brackets from the frame support?

Detach the two frame support brackets from frame support, by removing the four bolts (Figure 3).

How do you attach the frame support brackets to the tractor?

Attach frame support brackets to tractor as shown. Note that the right bracket on “MT” or “40” Tractors extends out.

How do you attach the frame support to the support brackets?

Attach frame support to support brackets using mounting holes as follows:

  • Tractor Right Bracket Left Bracket
  • “A” or “60” Holes 2 and 4 Holes 9 and 11
  • “B” or “50” Holes 3 and 5 Holes 8 and 10
  • “G” Holes 2 and 4 Holes 10 and 12
  • “MT” or “40” Holes 3 and 5 Holes 7 and 9

(Reverse Bracket–Angle Out)

How do you attach the long frame support braces?

Attach the long frame support braces as shown. For the “MT” or “40” Tractors, an offset brace is provided for the right side. The extra straight brace may be discarded.

What should you do before attaching the main frame to the hitch shaft?

Drive tractor front wheels over rear angle and inside main frame. Attach main frame to hitch shaft.

How do you attach the sheave support with cable sheaves to the front of the tractor?

Attach sheave support with cable sheaves to the front of the tractor as shown. NOTE: Sheave support is offset to the right on the "MT’.’ or “40” Tractors.

How do you install braces from sheave support to upper implement-mounting cap screws on tractor?

Install braces from sheave support to upper implement-mounting cap screws on tractor.

How do you attach blade bar pins and cotter pins?

Support the blade in an upright position and attach the blade bar pins and cotter pins. Be sure to install the bar right side up.

After attaching the blade bar to the frame, what is the next step?

Attach the lower pipe brace to the yoke on the frame.

How do you attach the upper pipe brace?

Attach the upper pipe brace between the two support angles at the top of the blade.

How do you adjust spring tension?

Secure spring tension bolts as shown. Tighten to increase tension. Loosen to decrease tension.

After attaching the right and left blade braces to the blade, what is the next step?

Remove sheaves, feed cable over sheaves, and re-install sheaves.

How should the cables be stretched out to the rear of the tractor?

Stretch cables out full length to rear of tractor. For the “A” or “60,” “B” or “50,” and “G” Tractors, the cable travel is under the axle housing; for the “MT” or “40” it is over the housing.

How do you attach cultivator lift arms on “A,” “B,” “G,” “50,” and “60” Tractors?

  1. Attach cultivator lift arms, not supplied with the snow plow, to the power-lift rockshaft. (See Figure 9).
  2. Attach off set lift arm extensions to the cultivator lift arms with the bend of the arm extending out toward the tire as shown. (See Figure 9).

How do you attach lift arm extensions on “MT” and “40” Tractors?

  1. (“MT” Tractor ONLY) Remove drawbar lift chains and lock drawbar in lower set of holes (See Figure 10). (“40” Tractor) Do not remove lift links.
  2. Attach lift arm extensions to the right side of the two outside Touch-omatic lift arms (see Figure 10).

How do you level the cable clamps?

With the bottom of the blade resting on the ground or floor, level with front and rear cable clamps and take up slack in cables. Be sure that lift arms are in down position.

How should the blade rest on the ground?

The blade should rest on the ground so that there is no lifting tension on the cables, but with no slack. It may be necessary later to adjust cables again after the snow plow has been used. When adjusted as described above, the blade will drop a little below front wheel level, a necessary condition, when plowing uneven surfaces.

How can you easily find any part or part number?

From the exploded views of parts in the pages which follow it 1s easy to find any part or part number.

What do the exploded views of parts show?

The exploded views also show the order of assembly of parts. If it is necessary to disassemble a unit for replacement of parts, be sure parts are assembled properly for satisfactory performance of your Snow Plow.

What is the Key Number for?

Each part has been given a key number which is used only to find the part number, description, and quantity used. Do Not Use the Key Number When Ordering Parts.

When purchasing parts from your John Deere dealer, what information should you provide?

When ordering parts from your John Deere dealer, give the following information:

  • (a) Number of your Snow Plow, ABG-90 or MT-72.
  • (b) Part number, description, and quantity wanted.
  • © Where part numbers are not indicated, as in the case of standard bolts, nuts, washers, cotters, etc., order by size and description.
