Do not allow children to operate tractor or attachments.
Never permit any person other than the operator to ride or board the tractor.
Disengage tractor PTO clutch control lever, attachment clutches, and shift transaxle to neutral before attempting to start tractor engine.
Look in front and behind before operating tractor to make sure area is clear.
Read and observe all “CAUTION” and “WARNING” decals on tractor and attachments.
Do not stop or start suddenly when going uphill or downhill. Operate up and down the face of steep slopes; never across the face.

Be careful when pulling loads or using heavy attachments. Install recommended ballast or wheel weights on tractor when using attachments.
Take all possible precautions when leaving tractor unattended; such as disengaging power-take-off, lowering attachments, shifting to neutral, setting parking brake, stopping engine, and removing the ignition key.
Keep all shields, guards, nuts, bolts, and screws in place and tight. Be sure tractor and attachments are in safe working condition before operating.

What are the steps to assemble the steering wheel on the JOHN DEERE 208 Lawn and Garden Tractor?
Step 1. Place foam washer on steering shaft.
Step 2. Position front wheels straight ahead.
Step 3. Place steering wheel on steering shaft with single spoke straight down as shown.
Step 4. Install nut and tighten to 10 to 12 ft-lbs (13 to 16 Nm) torque.
Step 5. Lubricate inner flange on steering wheel cap with multipurpose-type grease or oil. Press cap into steering wheel hub.
Step 6. Remove adhesive back from decal and install on cap.
How do I install the seat on the JOHN DEERE 208 Lawn and Garden Tractor?
Step 1. Attach seat to seat springs with four 3/8 x 3/4-in. cap screws and flat washers.
Step 2. Connect seat safety switch electrical wires.
