How do I install the spiked feet on my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY?
The four metal spikes are supplied for use when using the speaker on a carpeted surface to decouple the speaker from the floor and prevent unwanted damping. To install them:
1. Gently lay the speaker on its back on a soft, nonabrasive surface.
2. Screw each spike into the threaded insert in each outer foot.
3. Make sure all four spikes are screwed in completely for stability.
IMPORTANT: NEVER drag the speaker to move it, as this will damage the spikes, the feet, and/or the wood cabinet itself. Always lift the speaker and carry it to its new location.
How do I install the grilles on my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY?
Top Grille Installation:
1. Insert the two pins on the grille into the rubber cups located in the top of the logo bar.
2. Let the magnets draw the top of the grille against the driver trim area.
Bottom Grille Installation:
1. While holding the grille at a 45-degree angle to the speaker, insert the two hook tabs into the two slots on the underside of the logo bar.
2. Let the magnets draw the bottom of the grille against the driver trim area. Ensure the hook tabs are properly engaged in the slots of the logo bar to properly support the weight of the grille.
Side Grilles Installation:
1. Insert the six grille pins from the appropriate grille (left or right) into the rubber cups in each woofer’s trim panel.
What are the placement guidelines for the INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY loudspeakers?
While you should experiment to find the ideal placement in your room, these guidelines will help you achieve optimum performance:
• Generally, the speakers should be placed at least 3 feet away from the side walls.
• The two speakers should be equidistant from your primary listening position.
• It is recommended that the angle formed between the speakers and the listening area be between 45° and 60°. For example, if the speakers are 8 feet apart, your listening position should be 8 to 10 feet from each speaker.
• With wider speaker separations, it may be advantageous to slightly angle the speakers, aiming them toward the listening area.
How do I wire my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY speaker system?
IMPORTANT: Make sure all equipment is turned off before making any connections.
Use a high-quality speaker wire with polarity coding. The side of the wire with a ridge or other coding is usually considered positive (+). To ensure proper polarity, connect each + terminal on the back of your amplifier or receiver to the respective + (red) terminal on each speaker. Connect the – (black) terminals in a similar way. Do not reverse polarities (i.e., + to – or – to +), as this will cause poor imaging and diminished bass response.
To connect bare wires to the terminals:
1. Open the terminals by twisting the cap counterclockwise.
2. Insert the bare end of the wire into the hole in the post.
3. Tighten the cap by twisting clockwise until secure.
Banana plugs may also be inserted directly into the rear of the connector.
How do I bi-wire my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY loudspeakers?
Bi-wiring allows separate sets of speaker cables to be attached to the low-frequency and midrange/high-frequency sections of the speaker’s internal network. This can provide sonic advantages and more flexibility in amplifier selection.
1. Remove the terminals by twisting the cap counterclockwise and remove the strapping bars that connect the upper (HF) and lower (LF) terminals.
2. Insert the speaker wire for the high frequencies into the top set of terminals (HF) and tighten.
3. Insert the speaker wire for the low frequencies into the bottom set of terminals (LF) and tighten.
If you are using a dual-amplifier bi-wiring connection, ensure that both amplifiers exhibit the same polarity output when given the same input signal.
How do I perform final adjustments on my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY speakers?
1. Check the speakers for playback by first setting the system volume control to a minimum level, and then turning on the power of your audio system.
2. Play a favorite music or video segment and increase the system volume control to a comfortable level.
You should hear balanced audio reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum. If not, check all wiring connections.
The amount of bass you hear and the stereo-image quality will be affected by a number of different factors, including the room’s size and shape, the construction materials used to build the room, the listener’s position relative to the speakers, and the position of the speakers in the room.
• If there is too much bass, move the speakers away from nearby walls.
• If you place the speakers closer to the walls, there will be more bass output.
• If nearby reflecting surfaces adversely affect stereo-imaging quality, try angling the speakers slightly inward toward the listening position until the optimum effect is achieved.
How should I care for and clean my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY speaker system?
The INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY enclosure has a finish that does not require any routine maintenance. When needed, use a soft cloth to remove any fingerprints or dust from the enclosure.
NOTE: Do not use any cleaning products or polishes on the cabinet or grille.
What should I do if a problem occurs with my INFINITY PRELUDE FORTY loudspeaker?
If a problem occurs, first make sure that all connections are properly made and clean. To isolate the issue:
1. If a problem exists in one loudspeaker, reverse the connection wires to the left and right system.
2. If the problem remains in the same speaker, then the fault is with the loudspeaker.
3. If the problem appears in the opposite speaker, the cause is in another component or cable.
