Your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09 has a 2-in-1 card slot on the upper-left side that can hold either two nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and one microSD card.

Step 1. Press and hold the power button, then touch the power off icon to turn off your phone.

Step 2. To remove the card tray, insert the SIM eject pin included with your phone into the small hole next to the card tray.

Step 3. Place a nano-SIM card or a microSD card into the card tray, ensuring it is in the correct position.

Step 4. Insert the card tray back into your phone in the correct orientation.

Note: Only use standard nano-SIM cards to avoid damaging the tray. Be careful when using the SIM eject pin and store it away from children.

To turn on your phone:

Press and hold the power button until your phone vibrates and the screen turns on.

To turn off your phone:

Press and hold the power button, and then touch “Power off” on the screen.

If your phone does not respond after holding down the power button for 20 seconds, the battery may be empty.

You can charge your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09 in several ways:

Using a Charger:

Connect your phone to a power outlet using the genuine Huawei charger and USB cable that came with your phone. Using other chargers may cause slower charging, overheating, or damage.

Using a USB Port:

Step 1. Connect your phone to a computer or another device with a USB cable.

Step 2. When the “Allow access to device data?” popup appears, touch “NO, CHARGE ONLY”.

Reverse Charging (Charging Other Devices):

You can use your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09 to charge other devices with a USB Type-C port.

Step 1. Connect your phone to the other device using a USB Type-C cable.

Step 2. On your phone, swipe down to open the notification panel and set the USB connection mode to “Reverse charging”.

Step 3. On the other device, set the USB connection mode to “Charge only”.

You can check the battery status through the indicator light and the battery icon in the status bar.

Viewing Detailed Battery Status:

Touch Phone Manager > battery icon to view the remaining battery percentage and usage time.

Displaying Battery Percentage in Status Bar:

You can enable this in two ways:

1. Go to Phone Manager > battery settings icon and switch on Remaining battery percentage.

2. Go to Settings > Notification & status bar > Battery percentage. Select “Next to icon” or “In icon”.

You can manage your SIM cards to enable, disable, rename, and set defaults for data and calls.

Enable or Disable a SIM Card:

Step 1. Open Settings.

Step 2. Touch Dual SIM management.

Step 3. Toggle the switch next to SIM 1 or SIM 2 to enable or disable it.

Name a SIM Card:

Step 1. Open Settings > Dual SIM management.

Step 2. Select a SIM card, enter a new name, and touch OK.

Select the Default Mobile Data SIM:

Step 1. Open Settings > Dual SIM management.

Step 2. Touch SIM 1 or SIM 2 next to Default mobile data.

Set the Default Calling SIM:

Step 1. Open Settings > Dual SIM management.

Step 2. Touch Default calling SIM and select SIM 1 or SIM 2.

You can import data from an old phone using HiSuite or Phone Clone.

Using HiSuite:

First, back up data from your old phone to your computer using HiSuite.

Step 1. On your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09, open Settings > Advanced settings > Data transmission.

Step 2. Touch FROM HISUITE.

Step 3. Connect your new phone to the computer with a USB cable and touch Restore in HiSuite on the computer.

Step 4. Select the backup file and touch Restore to restore the data.

Using Phone Clone:

Step 1. On your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09, open Settings > Advanced settings > Data transmission.

Step 2. Touch FROM OLD PHONE(PHONE CLONE).

Step 3. Choose whether your old phone is an Android device or an iPhone and touch CONTINUE.

Step 4. Follow the onscreen instructions. If your old phone is Android, open Phone Clone on it, touch “Old phone(Send)”, and connect to your new phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot. If your old phone is an iPhone, connect it to your new phone’s Wi-Fi hotspot.

Step 5. Once connected, select the data you want to transfer and touch Send.

You can customize your home screen by adding or removing screens, setting a default screen, and adding widgets and folders.

To access the home screen editor, pinch two fingers together on a blank area of the home screen.

Adding a Home Screen:

In the editor, touch the ‘+’ icon on the screen furthest to the left or right.

Deleting a Home Screen:

In the editor, touch the ‘X’ icon on a blank screen to delete it. You cannot delete a screen that contains apps or widgets.

Moving a Home Screen:

In the editor, touch and hold the screen you want to move and drag it to the desired location.

Setting the Default Home Screen:

In the editor, touch the home icon at the top of a screen to set it as the default.

Adding Widgets:

Step 1. Enter the home screen editor.

Step 2. Touch Widgets, select a widget, and drag it to a blank area on the home screen.

Creating Folders:

On the home screen, drag one app icon on top of another to create a folder containing both apps.

There are several methods to capture a screenshot on your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09.

Taking a Full Screenshot:

• Using Buttons: Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons simultaneously.

• Using Shortcut: Open the notification panel, swipe to the Shortcuts tab, and touch Screenshot.

• Using Knuckle Gesture: Knock the screen twice with your knuckle.

Capturing Part of the Screen:

Knock the screen with your knuckle and, without lifting it, draw a closed shape around the area you want to capture. Touch the save icon at the top of the screen.

Taking a Scrolling Screenshot:

• Using Shortcut: After taking a regular screenshot, touch Scrollshot in the thumbnail that appears.

• Using Knuckle Gesture: Draw an “S” on the screen with your knuckle. The screen will automatically scroll down. Touch the screen to stop.

You can record your screen activity using several methods on your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09.

Starting a Screen Recording:

• Using Shortcut Switch: Open the notification panel and touch Screen recording.

• Using Buttons: Press and hold the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously.

• Using Knuckle Gestures: Knock the screen twice with two knuckles.

Stopping a Screen Recording:

• Touch the screen recording icon in the upper-left corner of the status bar.

• Press the Volume up and Power buttons simultaneously.

• Knock the screen twice with two knuckles.

Viewing Screen Recordings:

Go to the Gallery app and open the Screen recordings folder to view, share, or delete your recordings.

Split-screen mode allows you to use two apps simultaneously. Note that not all apps support this feature.

Enabling Split-Screen Mode:

• Using Knuckle Gesture: With the screen in portrait view, slide a knuckle horizontally across the screen.

• Using Recent Key: Open a compatible app, then touch and hold the Recent key (square icon) on the navigation bar.

• Using Swipe Gesture: Open a compatible app, then swipe up from the bottom of the screen with two fingers.

Using Split-Screen Mode:

• Switch screen positions: Touch the split-screen divider, then touch the swap icon.

• Exit split-screen mode: Touch the split-screen divider and select the ‘X’ icon.

• Switch to full screen: Touch and hold the divider and swipe it up or down to the edge of the screen.

You can enable motion gestures to perform common tasks quickly. To enable them, go to Settings > Smart assistance > Motion control.

• Flip: Flip the phone over to mute sounds and disable vibrations for incoming calls, alarms, and timers.

• Pick up: Pick up the phone to reduce the ringtone volume for incoming calls, alarms, and timers.

• Raise to ear: Raise the phone to your ear to answer an incoming call. When viewing contact details or call logs, raising the phone to your ear will call that contact.

You can use your fingerprint to unlock the screen, access encrypted files (Safe), and unlock apps.

Adding a Fingerprint:

Step 1. Open Settings and touch Fingerprint ID > Fingerprint management.

Step 2. Select PIN or Password and follow the instructions to set a screen lock password. This is required for backup.

Step 3. Touch New fingerprint to begin adding your fingerprint.

Step 4. Place your fingertip on the fingerprint sensor. Press down lightly and lift after you feel a vibration. Repeat this using different parts of your fingertip.

Step 5. Once enrollment is complete, touch OK. You can add up to five fingerprints.

Using Fingerprint Sensor Gestures:

Go to Settings > Fingerprint ID to enable these features:

• Take photo/video: Touch and hold the sensor in the camera app to take a picture.

• Answer call: Touch and hold the sensor to answer an incoming call.

• Stop alarm: Touch and hold the sensor to silence an alarm.

• Show notification panel: Swipe down on the sensor to open the notification panel.

• Browse photos: When viewing photos in full screen, swipe left or right on the sensor to switch between photos.

You can back up your data to a microSD card, the phone’s internal storage, or a USB storage device using the Backup app.

Backing Up Data to a microSD Card:

Step 1. Open the Backup app on your phone.

Step 2. Select Backup > SD card > Next.

Step 3. Select the data you want to back up and touch Back up. You may be prompted to enter a password for encryption.

Restoring Data from a microSD Card:

Step 1. Insert the microSD card into your new phone and open the Backup app.

Step 2. Touch Restore > Restore from SD card > Next.

Step 3. Select the backup you want to restore. Enter the encryption password if prompted.

Step 4. Select the data you want to restore and touch START RESTORATION.

The process is similar for backing up to and restoring from internal storage or a USB storage device (using a USB OTG cable).

You can make calls in several ways from your HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09.

Smart Dialing:

Step 1. Open the Dialer app.

Step 2. Enter the name, initials, or number of a contact. Matching results from your contacts and call log will appear.

Step 3. Select the contact you want to call. If you have dual SIMs, touch the button for SIM 1 or SIM 2 to make the call.

From Contacts:

Step 1. Open the Contacts app.

Step 2. Search for and select the contact you wish to call.

Step 3. Touch their phone number to initiate the call.

From the Call Log:

Step 1. Open the Dialer app.

Step 2. Scroll through the list of recent calls and touch the name or number you want to dial.

Making an Emergency Call:

Open the Dialer app and enter the emergency number for your location, then touch the call button. You can make emergency calls without a SIM card if you are in an area with cellular coverage.

You can set up a conference call with multiple participants. This service must be supported by your carrier.

Step 1. Call the first participant.

Step 2. Once the call is connected, touch the add call icon (+), and then dial the second participant’s number. The first participant will be placed on hold.

Step 3. When the second call is connected, touch the merge calls icon to start the conference call.

Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add more people to the conference.

Step 5. During the call, you can touch the participant list to manage individuals in the call.

You can create, edit, merge, and delete contacts in the Contacts app.

Creating a New Contact:

Step 1. Open Contacts and touch the ‘+’ icon.

Step 2. Select a location to save the contact (Phone, SIM, Google account).

Step 3. Enter the contact’s information, such as name, phone number, and email. You can also add a photo.

Step 4. Touch the checkmark to save.

Editing a Contact:

Step 1. In Contacts, touch and hold the contact you want to edit, then touch Edit.

Step 2. Update the information and touch the checkmark to save.

Merging Duplicate Contacts:

Step 1. Open Contacts and touch Menu > Organize contacts > Merge duplicate contacts.

Step 2. Select the contacts you want to merge and touch the merge icon.

Deleting Contacts:

Step 1. Open Contacts and touch Menu > Organize contacts > Delete contacts by batch.

Step 2. Select the contacts to delete, then touch the delete icon.

The HUAWEI MATE 9 MHA-L09 offers various shooting modes for different scenarios. To access them, open the Camera app and swipe right on the viewfinder.

• Wide aperture mode: For close-up shots with a blurred background. You can adjust the focal point after taking the photo.

• Monochrome mode: Uses a separate monochrome lens for high-contrast black and white photos.

• Beauty mode: For stunning selfies with smoother-looking skin.

• Perfect Selfie mode: Applies custom beauty settings to your face automatically.

• HDR mode: Prevents under or overexposure in high-contrast scenes, like shooting into the sun.

• Super Night mode: Improves the quality of images taken at night by merging several images into one brighter photo.

• Time-lapse mode: Capture and speed up subtle changes, like a flower opening or clouds moving.

• Document scan: Automatically straightens images of text taken from an angle.

Pro camera mode gives you manual control over camera settings. To enable it, open the Camera app and swipe up from the bottom of the viewfinder.

You can adjust the following settings:

• Metering mode: Select how the camera determines exposure (matrix, center-weighted, or spot metering).

• ISO: Adjust the camera’s sensitivity to light. A higher ISO creates a brighter image but may add noise.

• Shutter speed (S): Control how long the shutter stays open.

• Exposure compensation (EV): Manually increase or decrease the image brightness.

• Focus mode (AF): Choose between touch-to-focus (AF-S), continuous autofocus (AF-C), or manual focus (MF).

• White balance (AWB): Adjust the color temperature based on ambient light conditions (daylight, tungsten, etc.).

• RAW format: Save photos in RAW format to retain all image data for post-processing.

The Gallery app includes powerful image editing tools.

Step 1. Open the Gallery app and select a photo to view it in full screen.

Step 2. Touch the edit icon to open the photo editor.

You can then use the available tools to:

• Rotate an image: Touch the rotate icon and swipe the screen to adjust the angle.

• Crop an image: Touch the crop icon, select a ratio, and drag the edges to crop.

• Add a filter: Select a filter to change the look of your photo.

• Adjust image parameters: Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and more.

• Blur an image: Add a blur effect and adjust its intensity and position.

• Draw graffiti: Select a brush and color to draw on your photo.

• Add a watermark or label: Personalize your photo with various watermarks and text labels.

You can use the Phone Manager app to make your phone run faster and optimize performance.

One-Touch Optimization:

Open Phone Manager and touch OPTIMIZE. Your phone will automatically optimize performance, enhance security, and reduce power consumption.

Enhancing Speed (Cleanup):

Step 1. Open Phone Manager.

Step 2. Touch Cleanup to clear the app cache and system trash.

Step 3. For more space, touch Storage manager to clear large files, images, and app data.

Battery Management:

Step 1. Open Phone Manager and touch remaining.

Step 2. Touch Optimize to check for power consumption problems. You can also restrict background apps, close battery-draining apps, and reduce screen resolution to save power.

When Airplane mode is enabled, your phone’s wireless functions (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) are disabled to prevent interference, for example when on an airplane. You can enable it in two ways:

1. Using the shortcut switch: Swipe down from the status bar to open the notification panel. In the Shortcuts tab, toggle the Airplane mode switch.

2. Using Settings: Open Settings and toggle the Airplane mode switch.

When airplane mode is active, an airplane icon will be displayed in the status bar.

Restoring factory settings will erase all personal data from your phone, including account information, downloaded apps, and system settings. It is crucial to back up your important data before proceeding.

Step 1. Open Settings.

Step 2. Touch Advanced settings > Backup & reset.

Step 3. Touch Factory data reset.

Step 4. You can choose to select “Erase internal storage” to delete all files like music and photos. This is optional but recommended for a complete reset.

Step 5. Touch Reset phone to begin the process.
