2. Push the front of the seat backward and lower it until it locks into place.

3. Make sure the seat is locked securely by pulling up on it lightly.

The seat locks automatically when closed. Be careful not to lock your key in the compartment under the seat.

Checking the Engine Oil:

6. Remove the dipstick and check that the oil level is between the upper and lower level marks.

7. If the level is correct, securely install the dipstick.

Adding Engine Oil:

If the engine oil is at or near the lower level mark, add the recommended engine oil.

1. Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.

2. Add the recommended oil until it reaches the upper level mark. To do this accurately, place the vehicle in an upright position on a firm, level surface.

3. Do not overfill above the upper level mark.

4. Make sure no foreign objects enter the oil filler opening and wipe up any spills immediately.

5. Securely reinstall the oil fill cap.

Check the coolant level in the reserve tank while the engine is cold.

1. Place your vehicle on a firm, level surface.

2. Hold your vehicle in an upright position.

3. The reserve tank is located behind the engine on the right side. Check that the coolant level is between the UPPER and LOWER level marks on the tank.

If the coolant level is below the LOWER mark, remove the reserve tank cap and add the recommended coolant (Pro Honda HP Coolant or equivalent) until the level reaches the UPPER mark. Reinstall the cap securely.

If the coolant level is dropping noticeably or the reserve tank is empty, you may have a serious leak and should have your vehicle inspected by your dealer.

Checking Brake Fluid:

1. Place your vehicle in an upright position on a firm, level surface.

2. Check that the brake fluid reservoirs are horizontal.

3. For the front brake, check that the fluid level is above the LOWER level mark on the reservoir.

4. For the rear brake, check that the fluid level is between the UPPER and LOWER level marks on the reservoir.

If the fluid level is low, inspect the brake pads for wear. If the pads are not worn, you may have a leak.

Inspecting Brake Pads:

Check the condition of the brake pad wear indicators.

• Front: The pads need to be replaced if a brake pad is worn to the bottom of the indicator groove.

• Rear: The pads need to be replaced if a brake pad is worn to the indicator groove.

If necessary, have the pads replaced by your dealer. Always replace both left and right brake pads (on the front) at the same time.

Check the clutch lever freeplay at the tip of the lever. The correct freeplay should be 3/8 – 13/16 in (10 – 20 mm). If adjustment is needed, follow these steps:

Upper Adjustment (at the lever):

1. Loosen the upper lock nut.

2. Turn the upper clutch cable adjuster until the correct freeplay is achieved. Turn it out to decrease freeplay, and in to increase freeplay.

3. Tighten the upper lock nut and check the freeplay again.

Lower Adjustment (at the engine):

If the correct freeplay cannot be obtained using the upper adjuster, use the lower adjuster.

1. Loosen the upper lock nut and turn the upper adjuster all the way in. Tighten the lock nut.

2. Loosen the lower lock nut near the engine.

3. Turn the lower adjusting nut until the clutch lever freeplay is within the 10 – 20 mm range.

4. Tighten the lower lock nut and check the freeplay again.

After adjusting, start the engine, pull the clutch lever in, and shift into gear. Make sure the engine does not stall and the vehicle does not creep.

You can adjust the spring preload on both the front and rear suspension to suit the load or road surface.

Adjusting the Front Suspension:

You can adjust the spring preload using the adjuster on top of each fork.

• Turn the adjuster clockwise to increase spring preload (for a harder ride).

• Turn counterclockwise to decrease spring preload (for a softer ride).

The standard position is 3/8 in (9 mm) from the adjuster top surface to the fork bolt top surface. Adjust both left and right forks to the same setting.

Adjusting the Rear Suspension:

You can adjust the spring preload of the rear shock absorbers using the provided pin spanner.

• Turn the adjuster clockwise to increase spring preload (hard).

• Turn counterclockwise to decrease spring preload (soft).

The standard position is 3 clicks from the minimum setting. Adjust both left and right shock absorbers to the same setting.

• If the fan is operating: Allow the engine to cool with the ignition switch in the OFF position.

3. After the engine has cooled, inspect the radiator hose for leaks.

• If there is a leak: Do not start the engine. Transport your vehicle to your dealer.

4. Check the coolant level in the reserve tank and add coolant as necessary.

5. If steps 1-4 check out as normal, you may continue riding, but closely monitor the high coolant temperature indicator.

NOTICE: Continuing to ride with an overheated engine can cause serious damage.

If a warning indicator comes on, take the appropriate action:

• Low Oil Pressure Indicator: If this indicator comes on, pull safely to the side of the road and stop the engine immediately. Continuing to ride with low oil pressure can cause serious engine damage. Check the engine oil level and add oil if necessary. Your vehicle will have normal riding ability, but without the Torque Control function. Reduce your speed and have your vehicle inspected.

If something electrical on your vehicle stops working, check for a blown fuse. Always replace a blown fuse with a spare fuse of the same rating.

Fuse Box Fuses (under left side cover):

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2. Remove the left side cover.

3. Remove the fuse box cover.

4. Pull the fuses out one by one using the fuse puller (located on the back side of the fuse box cover) and check for a blown fuse.

5. Replace the blown fuse with a spare fuse of the same rating. Spare fuses are also located on the back of the fuse box cover.

6. Reinstall the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Main Fuse & FI Fuse (under the seat):

1. Remove the utility box.

2. Remove the starter magnetic switch cover.

3. Remove the starter magnetic switch from the stay.

4. Pull the main fuse and FI fuse out and check for a blown fuse. Replace with a spare of the same rating. Spares are provided in the starter magnetic switch.

5. Reinstall parts in reverse order.

NOTICE: If a fuse fails repeatedly, you likely have an electrical problem. Have your vehicle inspected by your dealer.
