ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD. Disconnect all power before installing the disconnect switch. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or property damage. The disconnect switch must be installed by a qualified person and must be effectively grounded in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

Follow these steps to prepare the heater:

1. Ensure the amperage rating of the disconnect is equal to or greater than the amperage rating on Table A and as marked on the nameplate located on the bottom access door.

2. Locate the rectangular knockout in the bottom right corner on the back of the heater. The power disconnect kit is to be installed here.

3. Remove the knockout using a hammer and chisel or other appropriate means.

4. For easier access to terminal screws to wire pigtail leads supplied on the heater, it is suggested that these connections be made before installing.

The HEATFLO KUH-C-15-83 utilizes the KDS-1 kit (40 and 50 Amp Kits). Installation instructions are as follows:

1. Open the bottom service door.

2. Insert the disconnect switch, with its mounting plate, into the heater cabinet and position it behind the opening created by the removal of the rectangular knockout.

3. Insert the four self-tapping screws into the four holes in the rear panel. They should engage the holes in the mounting plate.

4. Tighten the screws until they are secure.

5. Mount the switch faceplate to the switch using the two provided screws. Mount with the “OFF” position to “0” to the left and the “ON” position “1” to the top.

6. Slide the handle over the shaft and tighten the screw to secure.

For the KDS-1 kit used with the HEATFLO KUH-C-15-83:

This switch disconnects the power to power leads when the handle is rotated to the “0” position (left). The power is on when the switch handle is rotated to the “1” position (top) position.

Wiring instructions are as follows:

1. Use the three pigtail leads supplied with the kit when connecting to the power line.

2. The power disconnect wiring to the heater is to be made using the pigtail leads supplied on the heaters up to and including 25 kW. On larger heaters, the installer should supply 105˚C type AWM 600V wire.

3. Use copper supply wire only with this switch.

4. For units without contactors, the disconnect switch is to be wired to lead wires on heater power.

5. When using one-phase power service, remove lead wires marked L2 and AL2.

For future replacement parts, the model number should be modified on the nameplate to show that a disconnect kit has been field installed on the heater. A label kit (P/N 170-302788-002) has been included in the plastic envelope located in the disconnect kit.

Cut off the appropriate number for the size disconnect being installed (40 Amp = 1; 80 Amp = 2; 100 Amp = 3). The label has a pressure-sensitive adhesive back so that the number can be placed over the “0” at the end of the Catalog Number on the nameplate.

The HEATFLO KUH-C-15-83 utilizes the 50 Amp KDS-1 kit. The replacement parts are listed below, along with parts for other kit sizes:
