During the first use of the iron, it may appear to smoke. This will stop and does not indicate a defect or hazard. Many irons also spit or sputter during the first few uses with tap water as the steam chamber becomes conditioned. This will stop after a few uses.

To clean steam vents before first use, prepare the iron for steam ironing and then iron over an old cloth for a few minutes while letting the iron steam. Press the Steam Burst button several times to clean the vents. Then follow the self-cleaning instructions.

To use the dry iron function:

1. Set the Adjustable Steam Switch to the Dry Iron symbol (crossed out steam).

2. Press the Temperature Settings Button (located in front of the Spray and Steam Buttons) to select the desired temperature. The backlight will blink until the iron reaches the desired temperature. There will be a beep and the backlight will become solid.

3. To turn the iron off, press the Temperature Settings Button until “OFF” is illuminated.

The iron will turn off automatically when left in specific positions for set periods of motionless time. Moving or tilting the iron will reset the Auto Shutoff sensor.

1. Set the Adjustable Steam Switch to the Dry Iron symbol initially.

2. Press the Temperature Settings Button to select the desired temperature. The backlight will blink until the iron reaches the temperature, then beep and turn solid.

3. Set the Adjustable Steam Switch to the desired steam level.

4. To turn the iron off, set the Adjustable Steam Switch to Dry Iron, then press the Temperature Settings Button until “OFF” is illuminated.

WARNING! Burn Hazard: Attempting to steam iron on a lower temperature setting or failing to allow the iron to reach the selected temperature can result in hot water dripping from the soleplate.

For vertical steaming, hold the iron 6 inches (15 cm) from the garment and do not allow the hot soleplate to touch delicate garments. Press and release the Steam Burst Button to steam out wrinkles. Wait at least 5 seconds before pressing the Steam Burst Button again. Do not vertical-steam clothes that are being worn, and do not use vertical steam in the direction of people or pets.

Check the garment label for fabric composition and ironing instructions. If the fabric is a blend, use a low temperature setting.

Fabric care labels use symbols to show recommended temperature settings:

• Iron Symbol with one dot: Low Temp Setting
• Iron Symbol with two dots: Medium Temp Setting
• Iron Symbol with three dots: High Temp Setting
• Iron Symbol crossed out: Do not iron
• Iron Symbol with steam lines crossed out: Do not use steam

Fabric Facts:

Do not iron in a circular motion as this can stretch fabric; instead, iron lengthwise.

Natural fibers such as cotton and linen should be ironed slightly damp for faster, easier ironing. If completely dry, use maximum steam or mist with water prior to ironing.

Any portion of a garment that has two layers of fabric such as pockets, seams, collars, and cuffs should be ironed inside out first.

To press a collar, iron from the points in using small strokes. After wrinkles are pressed out, crease the collar into place by hand.

Ironing Versus Pressing:

Ironing involves sliding the iron back and forth over fabric. Pressing involves placing and holding the iron on the fabric in one spot, lifting up, and repeating until smooth. Pressing helps avoid stretching fabrics.

A pressing cloth can help reduce unwanted shine on fabrics. You do not need to increase the recommended iron temperature when using a pressing cloth.

To clean the soleplate, preheat the iron to the highest temperature setting and iron over a damp, 100% cotton cloth. This creates heavy steam that transfers grime from the soleplate to the cloth. The Self-Clean Button cleans steam holes but not the flat surface of the soleplate.

Allow the iron to cool and wipe with a soapy, soft damp cloth to clean occasional buildup. Never use abrasive cleaners, metal scouring pads, or iron over zippers, buttons, pins, or rivets, as these may scratch the surface.

Allow the iron to cool completely. Empty water from the iron by opening the water tank cover and slowly tilting the pointed end over a sink until the water runs out. Loop the cord loosely around the iron. Do not store the iron laying flat on the soleplate; rest it on the heel rest.

To keep steam vents clear of buildup, follow these instructions each time you iron using steam:

1. Ensure there is water in the tank.

2. Press the Temperature Settings Button until “5 LINEN” is illuminated and let the iron heat.

3. Press the Temperature Settings Button until “OFF” is illuminated.

4. Unplug the iron.

5. Hold the iron over a sink.

6. Press and hold the Self-Clean Button until the tank is empty.

If the iron won’t heat, check the following:

Is the iron plugged in and the outlet working? Check the outlet by plugging in a lamp.

Has a temperature been selected?

Is the OFF light illuminated? Move the iron to reset the auto-shutoff sensor.

If water is leaking:

Do not overfill the water tank.

Adjust steam to a lower setting.

If steam ironing, ensure the temperature setting is selected in a steam range (linen or wool). Did the iron have enough time to preheat? Too low of a temperature setting may cause leaking until the anti-drip feature activates.

If dry ironing, make sure the Adjustable Steam Switch is in the Dry Iron position.

If the iron won’t steam:

Check the water level.

Is the Adjustable Steam Switch in the Steam position?

Has the iron had enough time to preheat?

The anti-drip feature will not allow steam when the temperature setting is in the dry range.

This may occur if the water tank is not emptied after use. ALWAYS empty the water tank after using. Water left in the tank may discolor clothing and the soleplate.

If the iron cord becomes twisted, unplug the iron and let it cool. Hold the iron cord in the middle of its entire length. Let the plug and iron dangle freely until the cord uncoils. This will extend the life of the iron cord.

If wrinkles are not removed, ensure you have chosen the correct temperature setting for your fabric.

Adjust the temperature to the desired setting. Let the iron cool down for 5 minutes before continuing.

Unplug the iron and then plug it back in. This should reset the backlight of the Temperature Setting display.
