Please adhere to the following safety precautions when using your GOURMIA GDK1713:

• Do not touch hot surfaces with your hands; always use the handles or knobs.

• Only use the kettle with the provided base.

• Do not overfill the glass jug past the maximum (MAX) water level mark to prevent boiling water from being ejected.

• WARNING: Overfilling the kettle will cause it to overflow while brewing, which may result in burns or scalding.

• WARNING: Scalding may occur if the lid is opened during the brewing cycle. Never boil with an open lid or lift the lid while the kettle is brewing.

• WARNING: Avoid spilling water onto the connector.

• The heating element will remain hot after use. Allow the appliance to cool before handling or cleaning.

• Always unplug the kettle when not in use and before cleaning.

• Do not immerse the cord, plugs, or the appliance itself in water or any other liquid.

• Do not clean the kettle with abrasive materials like cleansers or steel wool pads.

• Do not use the kettle if it is cracked or has a loose or weakened handle.

• Do not use the kettle for anything other than its intended purpose.

• Do not operate the kettle with a damaged cord or plug.

• This appliance is for household use only and should not be used outdoors.

The GOURMIA GDK1713 has the following features regarding its cord and plug:

1. A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

2. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used:

• The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least equal to the electrical rating of the appliance (110V~ 60Hz 1200W).

• The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

3. This unit has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, the plug is intended to be used by inserting it into the electrical outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit securely, reverse the plug and re-insert. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician for assistance. Do not modify the plug in any way.

The control panel and indicator lights on your GOURMIA GDK1713 signify the following:

Control Panel Icons:

• Keep Warm Icon: A small icon that indicates the Keep Warm function is active.

• Boiling Icon: A steam icon that appears when the kettle is actively boiling water.

• KEEP WARM: A large icon that displays when the kettle is in Keep Warm mode.

• Minus Icon (-): Decreases the set temperature.

• Plus Icon (+): Increases the set temperature.

• START / STOP: Starts or stops the boiling or heating process.

LED Indicator Lights (on the kettle base):

• Blue Light: Indicates the kettle has power and is in standby mode.

• Red Light: Indicates the kettle is in the process of boiling water.

• Green Light: Indicates the kettle is in Keep Warm mode.

To toggle the temperature display between Celsius and Fahrenheit on your GOURMIA GDK1713, simultaneously press and hold the plus (+) and minus (-) icons. You can only switch between temperature units when the kettle is in standby mode, which is indicated by a blue LED light on the base.

You can mute or unmute the kettle’s alert sounds by pressing and holding the START / STOP button. Two short beeps indicate that the alert sounds have been muted. One long beep indicates that the alerts have been unmuted.

Before the first use of your GOURMIA GDK1713, please follow these steps:

1. Remove all packaging material. Check to ensure all parts are included before discarding any packaging.

2. Unwind the power cord from below the power base.

3. Wash the kettle and infuser with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

4. Place the kettle on a flat, level, heat-resistant surface.

After these steps, it is recommended to prime the kettle.

Before its first use, we recommend running a brew cycle with water and then discarding it to ensure any dust or residue is removed from the GOURMIA GDK1713 kettle. This process is called priming.

1. Open the lid and fill the kettle with water to the MAX line.

2. Close the lid and place the kettle securely on its base. Plug the power cord into an outlet.

3. Tap START / STOP to start boiling the water. The display will show the temperature of the water as it rises, reaching 100°C / 212°F.

4. Once the temperature is reached, tap START / STOP again to stop the process.

5. After boiling, empty the kettle and rinse it with clean water. The kettle is now ready for use.

Follow these steps to operate your GOURMIA GDK1713 Programmable Cordless Kettle:

1. If using the infuser, open the lid, lift the infuser out, and place it on a flat, dry surface. If just boiling water, ensure the infuser is removed.

2. Fill the kettle with water, ensuring the level is above the MIN line and below the MAX line.

3. Place the kettle securely on its base and plug the power cord into an outlet. The indicator light will flash blue and the control panel will show the default boiling temperature of 100°C / 212°F.

4. To set a custom boiling temperature, tap the plus (+) or minus (-) icons on the control panel.

5. If making tea or coffee, fill the infuser with loose tea, tea bags, or medium-to-coarse coffee grounds while the water is heating.

6. Tap START / STOP to begin boiling. The indicator light will turn red, the boiling icon will appear, and the display will show the water temperature as it rises.

7. The kettle will beep when the desired temperature is reached.

8. If making tea or coffee, carefully open the lid and insert the infuser over the two hooks inside the kettle, with the flat portion of the infuser facing the handle. Be cautious of hot steam.

9. After brewing is complete, carefully open the lid, remove the infuser, and close the lid again.

10. Lift the kettle off its base for pouring.

The Keep Warm function on the GOURMIA GDK1713 maintains your water at a set temperature after boiling.

Setting Keep Warm:

1. Tap KEEP WARM. The indicator light will turn green and the display will blink the default Keep Warm temperature of 80°C / 175°F.

2. Tap the plus (+) or minus (-) icons to adjust the temperature. The range is from 40°C / 100°F to 85°C / 190°F.

3. After setting the desired temperature, wait 3 seconds. The display will then go back to showing the boiling temperature.

Operation:

• After the water reaches its boiling temperature, the kettle automatically enters Keep Warm mode. The indicator light turns green, and the keep warm icon appears on the control panel. The display will show the Keep Warm temperature you selected.

• If you lift the kettle off the base, the Keep Warm timer pauses. When you place the kettle back on the base, the timer resumes.

• The kettle will stay in Keep Warm mode for up to 6 hours. After 6 hours, it will go into standby mode and turn off completely after 5 more minutes of idle time.

Turning Off Keep Warm:

The Keep Warm function is on by default. To turn it off, press and hold the KEEP WARM button until “OFF” appears on the screen.

To keep your GOURMIA GDK1713 running smoothly, it is important to clean the appliance after every use. Always unplug the power cord and allow the kettle to cool completely before cleaning.

• KETTLE: When cool, empty the kettle and wipe both the interior and exterior with a soft damp sponge. Rinse with warm water. Never let tea stay inside the kettle overnight.

• INFUSER: Wash the infuser with warm, soapy water. Use a soft sponge. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

• CONTROL PANEL: Use a damp cloth to clean the control panel and exterior of the kettle.

• BASE: Wipe the base with a soft and damp sponge.

Limescale may build up inside the GOURMIA GDK1713 over time. It is important to descale the appliance every 2-3 months. If the kettle is used daily, the descaling process should be done monthly.

1. Fill the kettle with a solution of water and vinegar, keeping the level between the MIN and MAX marks.

2. Tap START / STOP to begin boiling the solution.

3. Once boiling starts, tap START / STOP again to stop the process.

4. When finished, carefully empty the solution from the kettle.

5. Rinse out the kettle several times with clean water to eliminate any remaining solution and the smell of vinegar.
