How do I bind the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC to a transmitter?
The receiver automatically enters binding mode once it is powered on. Follow these steps:
1. First, put the transmitter into binding mode.
2. Turn on the receiver. It will wait for 1 second for a connection. If no connection is found, the receiver will enter binding mode automatically.
3. Once binding is successful, the receiver LED will remain solid on.
4. Verify that the transmitter and receiver are working properly. If you need to re-bind, repeat the steps above.
Note: Set the transmitter to its binding state first, then the receiver. If binding is not completed within 10 seconds, the receiver LED will enter a slow flashing state. If re-binding is successful, all car light settings will be restored to default values.
What protection functions does the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC provide?
The FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC includes low/high voltage and overheating protection:
Low Voltage Protection: When low voltage is detected, CH2 has no output and all car lights flash slowly. The ESC LED will flash slowly and continuously. Once voltage returns to normal, the receiver exits protection mode.
High Voltage Protection: When high voltage is detected, all channels will stop outputting and all car lights will flash fast.
Overheating Protection: If the internal temperature of the ESC is detected to be too high, CH2 provides no output and all car lights flash fast. Once the temperature returns to normal, the channel resumes output.
How do I control the car lights on the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC using different control modes?
The FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC supports 6 sets of lights and two control modes (four-channel or two-channel). You can switch between these modes by turning on the transmitter, rotating the steering wheel clockwise to the maximum travel, and then turning on the receiver at the same time.
Car Light Operation Modes: There are four modes: Normal mode, sports mode, gradual mode, and sharp flash mode. Quickly press the CH4 button twice to cycle through these modes. By default, the unit operates in normal mode.
| Control State | Four-channel Control (e.g., FS-HW-G4P) | Two-channel Control |
|---|---|---|
| Turn Left | Turn steering wheel counterclockwise; signal flashes slowly. | Turn steering wheel counterclockwise, then left turn signal flashes slowly. Release to turn off. |
| Turn Right | Turn steering wheel clockwise; signal light turns on. | Turn steering wheel clockwise, then right turn signal turns on. Release to turn off. |
| Illumination / Width | Toggle CH3 to the right for ON, left for OFF. | Turn steering wheel from neutral position two times counterclockwise quickly to toggle. |
| Emergency State | Press the CH4 button to make both turn signals flash slowly. | Turn steering wheel from neutral two times clockwise quickly to toggle. |
| Gradual State | Toggle CH3 to the right; all lights enter gradual state. | Turn steering wheel from neutral two times counterclockwise quickly to toggle. |
| Sharp Flash State | Toggle CH3 to the right; all lights enter sharp flash state. | Turn steering wheel from neutral two times counterclockwise quickly to toggle. |
How do I configure the Ambient and Roof lights on the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC?
Ambient and roof lights can work in separate or combination modes. By default, they work in separate mode. To switch between these two modes, turn the steering wheel from the neutral position four times clockwise quickly.
Separate Mode: Ambient and roof lights operate independently. Rotate the steering wheel clockwise quickly three times to switch ambient light states (Gradual, Sharp Flash, Three-flash-one-off, OFF). Rotate the steering wheel counterclockwise quickly three times to switch roof light states (Solid ON, Slow Flash, OFF).
Combination Mode: Ambient and roof lights are controlled in a unified manner. Turn the steering wheel clockwise three times from center to cycle through Fast Flash, Gradual State, and OFF.
How does the ESC function work and calibrate on the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC?
The ESC automatically recognizes the throttle neutral every time it is powered on. It must complete a self-inspection (about 3 seconds) before it can be operated normally.
Battery Recognition:
2S LiPo: ESC LED flashes twice and motor beeps twice.
3S LiPo: ESC LED flashes three times and motor beeps three times.
NiMH cells: ESC LED flashes once and motor beeps once.
Calibration: After successful calibration, the ESC LED flashes once and the motor gives a long beep. If throttle neutral is not recognized, the motor will continue to beep quickly and no power output will occur.
Normal Operation LED Status:
Throttle at neutral: ESC LED is off, no motor output.
Forward movement: ESC LED flashes quickly; at 100% throttle, the LED becomes solid on.
Reversing or Failsafe: ESC LED flashes quickly.
What is the Failsafe function for the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC?
The failsafe function protects the model and personnel if the receiver loses signal:
CH1, CH3, and CH4: These can be set at the transmitter side. The default setting is “Not set”.
CH2 (ESC): This channel automatically enters a braking state in case of out-of-control signal loss.
Light Control: If in an emergency state, the emergency lights keep their last state. For other car light modes, all lights turn off during signal loss.
How do I troubleshoot common issues with the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC?
| Trouble | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Motor cannot start and LEDs are off after power on. | ESC has no working voltage or the switch is damaged. | Check battery connections and plugs for faulty welding. Return to factory if damaged. |
| Motor cannot start and red ESC LED flashes quickly after power on. | The neutral of the throttle channel on the transmitter has shifted. | Adjust the transmitter throttle trim until the ESC LED stops flashing. |
| Vehicle reverses when transmitter is moved forward. | Incorrect connection sequence between ESC and motor or wrong transmitter setting. | Exchange the two motor wires or set the throttle direction to reverse on the transmitter. |
| Motor suddenly stops rotating during use. | Signal loss or activation of low/high voltage or overheat protection. | Check the transmitter and receiver connection. Check battery voltage and ESC temperature. |
| Motor accelerates rapidly but then stops or gets stuck. | Insufficient battery discharge capacity or unreasonable gear ratio for motor speed. | Replace with a battery having higher discharge capacity, or use a lower speed motor/increase reduction ratio. |
What safety precautions are required for the FLYSKY FS-R4D-ESC?
Ensure the product is installed and calibrated correctly to avoid serious injury.
Verify that power matching is reasonable for the car frame and power devices before use.
Do not allow external system temperatures to exceed 90 degrees Celsius (194 degrees Fahrenheit).
Always disconnect the receiver battery before turning off the transmitter to prevent out-of-control accidents.
After use, always disconnect the battery from the ESC; otherwise, the ESC will continue to consume power even when off, which can lead to complete battery failure.
Keep the receiver antenna at least 1cm away from conductive materials like carbon or metal.
If throttle trim is adjusted on the transmitter, the receiver must be re-powered to recognize the new neutral position.
