General Information Notations

EF-72/EF-71 (model with stand)

EF-62/EF-61

You can place the projector on almost any flat surface. For EF-62/EF-61 models, you can also mount it on a commercially available tripod or projector stand. The projector can be installed at various angles with no vertical or horizontal limits (EF-62/EF-61).

Follow these points when selecting a location:

• Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

• Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation, and do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. If you cannot install it squarely, correct any resulting keystone distortion using the projector controls. For the best quality, adjusting the installation position is recommended.

Warning:

• You must install a ceiling mount when suspending the projector from a ceiling (EF-62/EF-61). Incorrect installation could cause it to fall.

• Do not use adhesives or lubricants on the mounting hole; the projector case may crack, causing it to fall (EF-62/EF-61).

• Do not install in locations with high dust, humidity, smoke, or steam, as it could cause a fire or electric shock.

• Avoid environments with excessive smoke, oil particles, volatile solvents, chemicals, detergents, or aroma oils, as these can cause the case to deteriorate and the projector to fall.

• Do not cover the projector’s air intake or exhaust vents to prevent internal temperature rise and fire.

• Do not install on an unstable surface or where it might be subject to salt damage or corrosive gas.

• When installing in a high position, use safety wires to prevent falling in an emergency like an earthquake.

Caution:

• When carrying the EF-72/EF-71 model, hold the stand in both hands to prevent dropping it.

• Do not cover the projector’s lens to avoid malfunction due to rising internal temperature.

• Install the supplied AC adapter more than 11.8″ (30 cm) away from the projector to prevent operational issues from heat.

Attention:

• If you tilt the projector toward the ceiling while cables are connected, you may damage the cables or ports (EF-72/EF-71).

• Be sure to leave at least 4″ (10 cm) of space on the sides and 8″ (20 cm) of space at the rear for ventilation.

You can mount the EF-62/EF-61 models on a commercially available tripod or projector stand.

Step 1. Turn the projector upside down.

Step 2. Use 1/4-20 UNC size (6.35 mm outer diameter) fixing screws with a minimum depth of 8.4 mm to fix the projector’s mounting hole to the mounting hardware at one point.

Step 3. When installing in a high place, attach the optional safety wire set (ELPWR01) to the safety wire attachment point.

Step 4. Mount the projector on the tripod or stand. For details, see the documentation supplied with the tripod or stand.

Warning: When mounting on a tripod:

• Use a tripod strong enough to support the projector’s weight.

• Securely tighten the tripod’s screw into the mounting hole.

• Do not carry the projector while it is mounted on a tripod.

• Place the tripod on a flat and stable surface.

When you install the projector in a high place, attach the optional safety wire set (ELPWR01) to prevent it from falling.

Step 1. Wind the safety wire around the pole of the projector stand and pass it through the loop.

Step 2. Attach the other loop to a location that is strong enough to support the weight of the projector.

When installing in a high place like a ceiling, make sure you hook the carabiner of the optional safety wire set to a point that is strong enough to hold the weight of the projector and mounting hardware.

Attention: Do not turn on the video source before connecting it to the projector to avoid damage.

Step 1. Connect the HDMI cable to your video source’s HDMI output port.

Step 2. Connect the other end to the projector’s HDMI port.

Note: When sending 18 Gbps images such as 4K 60Hz 4:4:4, use a premium-high speed HDMI cable. If you use an incompatible cable, images may not be displayed correctly.

You can connect devices like a microphone, USB flash drive, digital camera, or USB hard drive to project content or play audio.

Step 1. If your USB device came with a power adapter, plug the device into an electrical outlet.

Step 2. Connect the USB device to the projector’s USB-A port.

Notes on USB Devices:

• The USB-A port is not guaranteed to operate all devices that support USB.

• You may need an app to project content from your USB device.

• USB hard drives must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant, formatted in FAT16/32, self-powered, and should not have multiple partitions.

Attention:

• Use the USB cable supplied with or specified for use with the device.

• It is recommended to use a USB cable that is three meters or less. Long cables may cause incorrect operation.

Connecting Headphones

You can connect headphones to the projector’s Audio Out port and control the volume using the remote.

Connect the stereo headphone’s mini-jack cable to the projector’s Audio Out port.

Attention: The Audio Out port only supports 3-pin headphones. Other types may not output audio normally.

Caution: Do not start playback at a high volume. Sudden loud noises may cause hearing loss.

Connecting to an eARC/ARC Compatible AV System

If your AV system (e.g., sound bar) has an HDMI port, you can connect it to output audio.

Step 1. Connect an HDMI cable (with Ethernet) to your AV system’s HDMI output port (eARC or ARC compatible).

Step 2. Connect the other end to the projector’s HDMI port.

Step 3. Make any necessary settings on the connected AV system. Refer to its documentation.

To output audio, set Global CEC control to On in the projector’s menu: sChannels & Inputs > Inputs > Global CEC control.

The remote control uses two AAA batteries.

Step 1. Remove the battery cover as shown in the manual’s diagram.

Step 2. Remove the old batteries, if necessary. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Step 3. Insert the new batteries with the + and – ends facing as shown.

Step 4. Replace the battery cover and press it down until it clicks into place.

Warning: Ensure the batteries are inserted the correct way according to the (+) and (–) marks to prevent explosion, fire, injury, or damage.

For best performance, aim the remote control at the projector’s receivers within 16.4 feet (5 m) and within a 30° vertical and horizontal angle (front receiver) or 15° (rear receiver).

When you turn on the projector for the first time, you need to set up the OS using the initial setup wizard.

Step 1. Turn on the projector.

Step 2. When the pairing screen is displayed, hold down the Home button and Esc button on the remote control at the same time to pair it with the projector. The indicator on the remote will flash during pairing and turn off when complete.

Step 3. On the language selection screen, select your language and follow the on-screen instructions to select your country or region.

Step 4. Follow the on-screen instructions to make initial settings for the OS. It is recommended to log in with your Google Account for more detailed settings.

Step 5. When the Wi-Fi setting screen appears, select your wireless network and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 6. Follow the on-screen instructions to make other necessary settings.

Step 7. When you agree to the EPSON license terms, the initial setup wizard closes, and the home screen is displayed.

Turning On the Projector

Step 1. Connect the AC adapter to the projector’s AC adapter port.

Step 2. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter.

Step 3. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. The projector enters standby mode.

Step 4. Press the power button on the projector or remote control. The status indicator turns white, and the projector turns on. Auto Shape Correction will automatically correct the focus and any distortion.

Turning Off the Projector (Suspended Mode)

Step 1. Press the power button on the projector or remote control.

Step 2. The light source turns off, the status indicator turns off, and the projector enters suspended mode.

Step 3. To transport or store the projector, make sure the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord.

Turning Off the Projector (Deep Standby Mode)

This mode consumes less power than suspended mode but takes longer to start up.

Step 1. Hold down the power button on the remote control.

Step 2. Select OK on the shutdown confirmation screen. The projector enters deep standby mode.

You can supply power to the projector (EF-72 model only) using a commercially available portable charger.

The portable charger must meet the following specifications:

• Output: 100 W or higher

• Capacity: 24,000 mAh or greater

Step 1. Connect the projector to the portable charger using a commercially available USB-C cable that supports 100 W output. The projector enters standby mode.

Step 2. Press the power button on the projector or remote control to turn it on. The status indicator turns white.

Note: When using a portable charger, the image will be dimmed to reduce power consumption. A fully charged 24,000 mAh portable charger can project for approximately 60 minutes under normal temperature conditions.

Caution: Do not place the portable charger on the projector, as it may slip off and cause damage or injury.

Depending on how you positioned the projector, you may need to change the projection mode so your images project correctly.

• Front: Projects from in front of the screen (default).

• Front/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom for ceiling-mounted projection (EF-62/EF-61).

• Rear: Flips the image horizontally for projection from behind a translucent screen.

• Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image top-to-bottom and horizontally (EF-62/EF-61).

To change the projection mode:

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Select the menus in the following order: sProjector > Advanced Settings > Projection

Step 5. Select a projection mode and press [Enter].

Step 6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

Adjusting Image Height (EF-62/EF-61 models)

If the image is too high or low when projecting from a flat surface, use the adjustable foot.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the foot release lever to extend or retract the front adjustable foot. You can adjust the position up to 8 degrees.

Step 3. Release the lever to lock the foot.

Adjusting Image Position (EF-72/EF-71 models)

You can tilt or move the projector on its stand to adjust the image position.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Using both hands, tilt the projector up or down to adjust the image height. You can adjust the position from -15 to +90 degrees vertically.

Step 3. Turn the projector left or right to adjust the horizontal position.

Attention: Tilt or move the projector slowly. Do not get your fingers caught in moving parts. When tilting more than 60 degrees upwards, remove the fabric cover to prevent damage.

If the image is not rectangular, you can use several features to correct it. After correction, your image may be slightly smaller.

Correcting Image Shape and Focus Automatically

When the projector is moved or tilted, Auto Shape Correction automatically corrects focus and keystone distortion. This operates when the diagonal image size is 30 to 100 inches and the projection angle is within 20º right, left, up, or down.

Adjusting the Size and Position of the Image (Zoom & Shift)

Step 1. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 2. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 3. Go to: sProjector > Keystone > Zoom & Shift.

Step 4. Use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the image size (Zoom).

Step 5. Press [Enter] to switch to Shift mode.

Step 6. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the image position.

Automatically Correcting with Screen Fit

This feature automatically corrects the shape and position to fit your screen. It works best for screen sizes from 30 to 100 inches and with a projection angle within about 15º.

Step 1. Go to: sProjector > Keystone > Screen Fit.

Step 2. Move the projector as necessary to display the message in the middle of the screen.

Step 3. Expand the projection area so it extends beyond the edges of the screen.

Step 4. Select START. The image will be corrected.

Correcting with Quick Corner

This allows manual adjustment of an unevenly rectangular image.

Step 1. Go to: sProjector > Keystone > Quick Corner.

Step 2. Use the [Enter] button to select a corner point you want to adjust, then use the arrow buttons to move it.

You can correct the focus using the projector menus.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Focus button on the remote control. The focus adjustment screen is displayed.

Step 3. Press the left and right arrow buttons on the remote control to adjust the focus setting.

Step 4. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

When multiple image sources are connected, you can switch between them.

Step 1. Make sure the connected image source you want to use is turned on.

Step 2. For video sources like a DVD player, insert media and press play.

Step 3. Press the Source Search button on the remote control.

Step 4. Press the up or down arrow button to select the image source you want.

If no image signal is detected, check the cable connections between the projector and the image source.

You can change the aspect ratio of the displayed image. This setting is only available when the current input source is HDMI 1.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Select the menus in the following order: sDisplay & Sound > Screen.

Step 5. Select one of the available aspect ratios for your input signal.

Step 6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

You can change the projector’s color mode to optimize the image for your viewing environment.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Select the menus in the following order: sDisplay & Sound > Display > Picture Mode.

Step 5. Select the color mode you want to use from the list.

Step 6. Press the Esc button to exit the menus.

You can use the projector (EF-72 model only) to provide ambient lighting.

During Operation

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Touch the center of the projector’s top panel. The light at the bottom of the projector turns on.

Step 3. The brightness of the light changes each time you touch the top panel.

Step 4. Press and hold the top panel to switch the light modes (e.g., color, lighting effect).

In Standby Mode

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Go to: sSystem > Power & Energy.

Step 5. Set Energy Modes to Optimized or Increased and press [Enter].

Now, the light feature can be used even when the projector is in standby mode.

You can use the projector’s speaker to output audio from a video/audio device connected by Bluetooth.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Go to: sProjector > Bluetooth Speaker Mode. The Bluetooth Speaker Mode screen is displayed.

Step 5. Enable the Bluetooth function on the device you want to connect and select the projector name from the available device list.

The projected image turns off 10 seconds after the Bluetooth connection is established. Press the Esc button to exit Bluetooth Speaker Mode.

Note: There may be a delay in the audio output from a Bluetooth device. You can only connect one audio device at a time.

You can temporarily turn off the projected image without shutting down the projector.

Step 1. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 2. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 3. Go to: sDisplay & Sound > Display > Advanced Settings.

Step 4. Select Picture off to turn off the projected image.

Step 5. To turn the image back on, press the Esc button.

You can reset all projector settings to their default values. This action will delete all information such as installed apps, Google Account login information, and menu settings.

Step 1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

Step 2. Press the Settings button on the remote to open the dashboard.

Step 3. Select the gear icon on the dashboard.

Step 4. Go to: sSystem > About > Reset > Factory reset.

Step 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to start initializing the projector.

Warning: Before cleaning any part of the projector, turn it off and unplug the power cord.

Cleaning the Lens

Clean the lens periodically or when you notice dust or smudges.

• Gently wipe the lens with clean and dry lens-cleaning paper to remove dust or smudges.

• If the lens is dusty, use a blower to blow off the dust, then wipe the lens.

Attention: Do not wipe the lens right after turning off the projector, as it could be hot. Do not use harsh materials.

Cleaning the Projector Case

• To remove dust or dirt, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap. Do not spray liquid directly on the projector.

Attention: Do not use wax, alcohol, benzene, paint thinner, or other chemicals, as they can damage the case.

Cleaning the Air Filters and Intake Vents

Clean the air filter when a message appears about high internal temperature or if the Status indicator turns orange. It is recommended to clean these parts about once a year, or more often in dusty environments.

Step 1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

Step 2. Gently remove the dust from the vents using a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush.

Attention: Do not use canned air. If dust is difficult to remove or the filter is damaged, contact Epson for assistance.

If the indicators display a pattern not listed in the table, turn the projector off, unplug it, and contact Epson for help.

If the projector does not turn on when you press the power button, try the following steps:

Step 1. Make sure the power cord is securely connected to the projector, to a working electrical outlet, and to the AC adapter.

Step 2. If you are using the remote control, check the batteries of the remote control.

Step 3. The power cord or the AC adapter may be defective. Disconnect the cord and contact Epson for help.

• The projector may have turned off due to the Shut-Off Timer setting. Press the power button to turn it back on. You can adjust this setting in sSystem > Power & Energy > Shut-Off Timer.

• After switching to the HDMI source, if there is no input signal for a specified time (No signal standby timeout), the projector automatically enters standby. Press the power button to wake it. This setting is in sChannels & Inputs > Inputs > HDMI 1 > No signal standby timeout.

• If the status indicator is lit orange, the projector has overheated and turned off. Let it cool down and check for blocked vents.

If no image is displayed, try the following:

• Check the projector’s status indicator to confirm it is in normal operating status. Press the power button to wake it from standby if needed.

• Check all cable connections to ensure they are secure.

• Check the status of your video source: turn it on, press play if necessary. If using a laptop, ensure it is set to display on an external monitor.

• Check other items: Ensure Wi-Fi is on for online content, turn the projector and source off and on again, and reset all projector settings to default values if needed.

If only a partial image is displayed:

• Adjust the image position using the Zoom & Shift setting in the Projector menu.

• Select an appropriate aspect ratio from the Screen menu (HDMI only).

• Make sure the correct projection mode is selected.

Image is Not Rectangular

• Place the projector directly in front of the screen center, facing it squarely.

• Use the Auto Shape Correction, Screen Fit, or Quick Corner features in the Projector menu to correct the shape.

Image is Fuzzy or Blurry

• Press the Focus button on the remote and adjust the focus manually.

• Position the projector close enough to the screen.

• Clean the projector’s lens.

• Adjust the Sharpness setting in the sDisplay & Sound > Display menu.

• If projecting from a computer, try using a lower display resolution.

Incorrect Brightness or Colors

• Try different color modes from the Picture Mode menu.

• Check your video source settings.

• Adjust color settings like Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation in the Display menu.

• Make sure all cables are securely connected.

• Note that if power is supplied via USB-C, the image will be dimmed.

Image is Upside-down

• The projector is in the wrong projection mode for your setup. Select the correct projection mode (e.g., Front, Front/Ceiling) from sProjector > Advanced Settings > Projection.

• Adjust the projector’s volume using the up/down buttons on the remote control.

• Check the cable connection between the projector and your video source.

• Check your video source to make sure its volume is turned up and audio output is set correctly.

• If you want to use the projector’s speakers, check that Global CEC control is set to Off in the Inputs menu.

• If you want to output audio to an external device via HDMI eARC/ARC, set Global CEC control to On. Also, ensure your HDMI cable is compliant.

• If audio is not outputting correctly to an external device, try changing the Digital Output setting to PCM in sDisplay & Sound > Audio Output > Digital Output.

• Check that the remote control batteries are installed correctly and have power. Replace them if necessary.

• Check if any buttons on the remote are stuck down.

• If the pairing screen is displayed, perform pairing again by holding the Home and Esc buttons for about three seconds.

• Ensure you are operating the remote within the reception angle and range of the projector.

• Strong fluorescent lighting, direct sunlight, or infrared device signals can interfere with the remote receivers. Dim the lights or move the projector away from the interference.

• The remote control may be defective. Contact Epson for help.
