Before servicing or cleaning the EMERSON HF1160BS02 ceiling fan, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service panel disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. If the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.

The caution is that the blade assemblies must be mounted on the motor assembly so that the “This Side Up” label is visible at the top of the motor.

To install one non-reversible blade assembly on the top of the motor assembly of the EMERSON HF1160BS02:

Step 1. Use two 1/4-20 x 1/2″ Phillips hex head screws, two split lockwashers and two flat washers (supplied).

Step 2. Repeat this procedure for the remaining two blade assemblies.

Step 3. Tighten each blade screw to secure each blade assembly to the motor housing.

For the motor cover on the EMERSON HF1160BS02:

Step 1. Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the center hole in the motor cover.

Step 2. Align the two holes in the motor cover with the threaded holes in the motor yoke.

Step 3. Secure the motor cover to the motor assembly by installing two #8-32 x 1/4″ pan head screws and two #8 external tooth lockwashers (supplied).

For the ceiling cover on the EMERSON HF1160BS02:

Step 1. Route the three 48″ motor wires and the safety cable through the center hole in the ceiling cover and position the ceiling cover over the motor yoke.

To secure the downrod in the motor yoke for the EMERSON HF1160BS02:

Step 1. Remove the two setscrews from the top of the motor yoke using the setscrew wrench (supplied) and retain them for future use.

Step 2. Align the clevis pin holes in the downrod with the holes in the motor yoke. Install the clevis pin and secure with the hairpin clip. It is critical that the clevis pin goes through the holes in the motor yoke and is properly installed and securely tightened.

Step 3. Reinstall the previously removed two 5/16-18 setscrews in the motor yoke.

Step 4. While pulling up on the hanger ball, securely tighten both setscrews against the downrod using the allen wrench, supplied. It is critical that the setscrews are securely tightened.

The EMERSON HF1160BS02 fan comes with black, green ground and white wires that are 48-inches long. Before installing the fan, measure up approximately 6 to 9-inches above the top of the hanger ball/downrod assembly. Then, cut off the excess wires and strip back insulation 1/2-inch from the end of the wires.

The EMERSON HF1160BS02 fan must be hung with at least 10 feet of clearance from the floor to the blades.

Securely attach the hanger bracket to the outlet box using the two screws supplied with the outlet box. The hanger bracket must seat firmly against the outlet box. If the outlet box is recessed, remove wall board until the bracket contacts the box. If the bracket and/or outlet box are not securely attached, the fan could wobble or fall.

The retention cable should be affixed to the building structure and securely clamped to support the fan’s weight if the mounting hook or other parts fail. The process involves:

Step 1. Pass the end of the safety cable through the two cable clamps (supplied).

Step 2. Pass the end of the safety cable through the eye screw and then back through the two cable clamps.

Step 3. Leave approximately 3″ but no more than 5″ of slack on this safety cable to allow for possible fan movement (Do not exceed more than 5″ total slack).

Step 4. After verifying that the cable clamps are positioned properly on the safety cable, tighten the nuts on the U-bolts.

Caution should be taken regarding the cable clamp installation position for maximum holding power: install the U-bolt section of the clip on the dead or short end of the cable and the saddle on the long end of the cable. Improper installation reduces connection efficiency by as much as 40 percent.

Connect the green grounding wire from the hanger ball, the green grounding wire from the hanger bracket, and the green grounding wire from the EMERSON HF1160BS02 fan to the grounding conductor of the supply (this may be a bare wire or wire with green colored insulation). Securely connect these wires with a wire connector (supplied).

Caution: Use larger U.L. listed wire connectors if supply source wires are larger than #12 AWG.

Securely connect the fan motor white wire to the supply white (neutral) wire using a wire connector (supplied).

Securely connect the fan motor black (hot) wire to the supply black wire (hot) using a wire connector supplied.

Warning: Check to see that all connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire connectors, except for the ground wire.

Caution: Do not operate fan until blades are in place, as noise and fan damage could result.

After connections have been made, turn wires upward and carefully push wires into the outlet box, with the white and green wires on one side of the outlet box and the black wires on the other side of the outlet box.

The procedure to secure the ceiling cover for the EMERSON HF1160BS02 is as follows:

Step 1. Screw the two 3/4″ threaded studs (supplied) into the tapped holes in the hanger bracket.

Step 2. Lift the ceiling cover up to the threaded studs and turn until studs protrude through the holes in the ceiling cover.

Step 3. Secure the ceiling cover in place by sliding lockwashers over the threaded studs and installing the two knurled knobs (supplied).

Step 4. Tighten the knurled knobs securely until the ceiling cover fits snugly against the ceiling.

Warning: To avoid possible fire or shock, make sure that the electrical wires are completely inside the outlet box and not pinched between the ceiling cover and the ceiling.

The steps for installing the SW95 Wall Control when replacing an existing wall switch for the EMERSON HF1160BS02 are:

Step 1. Disconnect electrical power to the branch circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box before attempting to install the ceiling fan mounting plate on the outlet box.

Step 2. Remove the faceplate and the two 6-32 screws from the existing wall switch (retain faceplate and screws for future use).

Step 3. Pull the existing wall switch out from the wall outlet box.

Step 4. Disconnect the existing wall switch wires from the wires in the outlet box by removing the two wire connectors (discard connectors).

Step 5. Set the new Wall Control in the OFF position (full counter-clockwise).

Step 6. Pull the knob of the Wall Control (retain for future use).

Step 7. Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the Fan/Motor Lead (BLACK or RED) wire using a new wire connector (supplied).

Step 8. Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the 120 VAC source hot BLACK wire using a new wire connector (supplied).

Step 9. Securely connect the GREEN ground wire from the Wall Control to the supply ground wire (bare or green).

Step 10. Note: The WHITE neutral wires inside the electrical box must be connected together for proper operation of the wall control. NEVER connect the WHITE neutral wires to the Wall Control.

Step 11. Carefully tuck all wires and wire connectors into the outlet box and position the Wall Control onto the outlet box.

Step 12. Place the previously removed faceplate onto the Wall Control.

Step 13. Assemble the faceplate to the Wall Control using the two previously removed 6-32 screws.

Step 14. The Wall Control is supplied with a white and almond knob. Select the knob that matches the color of existing faceplate.

Step 15. Press the knob onto the shaft of the Wall Control.

Step 16. Rotate the knob counter-clockwise to the full OFF position.

Step 17. To Complete Installation: Restore power at the main fuse box or circuit breaker panel.

Note: The ceiling fan must be set at the highest speed setting before installation of the Wall Control.

IMPORTANT CARE INSTRUCTIONS for your Ceiling Fan:

Periodic cleaning of your new ceiling fan is the only maintenance that is needed.

When cleaning, use only a soft brush or lint free cloth to avoid scratching the finish. Abrasive cleaning agents are not required and should be avoided to prevent damage to finish.

LUBRICATION – All bearings are permanently lubricated and do not require further lubrication.

CLEANING – This fan may be wiped off with a damp cloth. Do not allow the motor to get wet. Do not use solvents or harsh detergents.

WARNING: Do not use water when cleaning your ceiling fan. It could damage the motor or the blades and create the possibility of an electrical shock.

Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the Fan/Motor Lead (BLACK or RED) wire using a new wire connector (supplied).

NOTE: Use only the wire connectors supplied with the new Wall Control to secure electrical connections.

Connect the Wall Control BLACK wire to the 120 VAC source hot BLACK wire using a new wire connector (supplied).

Securely connect the GREEN ground wire from the Wall Control to the supply ground wire (bare or green).

WARNING: Check to see that all wire connections are tight, including ground, and that no bare wire is visible at the wire connectors, except for ground.

NOTE: The WHITE neutral wires inside the electrical box must be connected together for proper operation of the wall control. NEVER connect the WHITE neutral wires to the Wall Control.

WARNING: Do not connect any neutral (WHITE) wire to this control. Incorrect wiring WILL damage this control.

The general information for the SW95 Wall Control is:

• The SW95 Wall Control is designed to operate only one ceiling fan, and Not an accessory light kit.
• The SW95 Wall Controls do not require a receiver.
• The SW95 Wall Control is rated for 1.25 Amp, 120 VAC, 60 HZ full load.
• To avoid erratic speeds and possible damage to your ceiling fan, use the Wall Control only with fans pull chain switches set to their high speed settings.
• All ceiling fans must be completely installed before installation of the Wall Control.
• Your new Wall Control will require a grounded electrical supply line of 120 volts AC, 60 HZ circuit.

After installing the SW95 Wall Control for the EMERSON HF1160BS02:

Step 1. Press knob onto the shaft of the Wall Control.

Step 2. Rotate knob counter-clockwise to the full OFF position.

Step 3. To Complete Installation: Restore power at the main fuse box or circuit breaker panel.

After completing the installation of the SW95 Wall Control for the EMERSON HF1160BS02, test run the fan in normal operation manner. Inspect for any possible shake or wobble which may be caused by binding as a result of “tight cable”. If this should happen, shut off power supply and re-check instructions to correct the problem.

NOTE: When any solid state motor speed control is used, a humming noise may be present in the fan on low speed. This hum in no way affects the operation of the fan and is acceptable in most installations.
