b) Always turn hood ON when cooking at high heat. Do not flambé food under the hood.
c) Clean ventilating fans frequently (at least once every two months). Grease should not be allowed to accumulate on fan or filter.
d) Use proper pan size. Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
What should be done in the event of a range top grease fire?
a) SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If the flames do not go out immediately, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
b) NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN – You may be burned.
c) DO NOT USE WATER, including wet dishcloths or towels – a violent steam explosion will result.
d) Use an extinguisher ONLY if:
• You know you have a Class ABC extinguisher, and you already know how to operate it.
• The fire is small and contained in the area where it started.
• The fire department is being called.
• You can fight the fire with your back to an exit.

• It is the customer’s responsibility to contact a qualified electrical installer and ensure the installation is adequate and conforms with National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70), CSA Standards (C22.1-94, C22.2 No.O-M91), and all local codes.
• The range hood must be connected with copper wire only.
• Connect directly to the fused disconnect (or circuit breaker) box through metal electrical conduit.
• Wire sizes must conform to requirements.
• A U.L.- or C.S.A.-listed conduit connector must be provided at each end of the power supply conduit.
• The appliance must be grounded. Plug into a properly installed and grounded outlet. Do not ground to a gas pipe. Do not use an extension cord. Consult a qualified electrician if grounding is uncertain.
• Do not have a fuse in the neutral or ground circuit.
• If the power cord is damaged, do not attempt repair; contact a service center or technician.
• Requirement: 120 V~, 60 Hz. 15 or 20 A Branch Circuit.
What are the venting requirements?
• Vent unit to the outside of the building only.
• For the most efficient air flow, use a straight run or as few elbows as possible.
• Use only metal ductwork. Do not use flex ducting.
• Connect the hood and discharge holes with a diameter equivalent to the air outlet (connection flange).
• Using smaller tubes/holes will decrease suction and increase noise.
• Use a duct of the minimum indispensable length.
• Use a duct with as few elbows as possible (maximum elbow angle: 90°).
• Avoid drastic changes in the duct cross-section.
• Cold weather installations should have an additional backdraft damper and a nonmetallic thermal break installed on the cold air side of the thermal break, as close as possible to where the ducting enters the heated portion of the house.
• Local building codes may require Make-Up Air Systems for ventilation systems greater than a specified CFM. Consult your HVAC professional.
What are the installation requirements regarding the ceiling and structure?
• The hood is designed for installation in a dropped ceiling.
• The ceiling must be flat, horizontal, sturdy, and resistant.
• The false ceiling must be robust and have a load capacity suitable for the product’s weight (38 kg for 40″ models, 58 kg for 60″ models).
• Do not install the hood directly in dropped ceiling panels; use a suitable frame or support constructed from wood or metal.
• The support structure must be securely fastened to the roof and capable of supporting three times the product weight.
• Do not cut a joist or stud unless absolutely necessary; if cut, a supporting frame must be constructed.
• Installation must be performed by qualified installers/specialised personnel.
• Do not install insulation within 76 mm (3 in) of any part of the rangehood.
• Ensure proper clearance within the ceiling or wall for the exhaust vent before making cutouts.
What is the recommended installation height above the cooktop?
• For gas ranges: Mount the hood so the bottom edge is at 39″ (99 cm) above the cooking surface.
• For electric ranges: Mount the hood so the bottom edge is not less than 30″ (76.2 cm) above the cooking surface.
Check your ceiling height and the hood height maximum before selecting your hood.
