Please observe the following safety information when installing your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220:

• The dishwasher should only be transported in an upright position.

• Before use, check for any transport damage. Do not connect a damaged appliance.

• Ensure the nominal voltage and supply type on the rating plate match the electrical supply where the appliance will be installed.

• Do not use multiway plugs, connectors, or extension cables, as they can be a safety hazard.

• Repairs should only be performed by qualified service engineers to avoid significant hazards.

• Never operate the dishwasher if the mains cable, water inlet/drain hose, control panel, worktop, or plinth area is damaged in a way that the inside of the appliance is accessible.

• If the mains lead is damaged, it must be replaced by an authorized service engineer.

• Never unplug the appliance by pulling on the cable; always pull the plug.

To ensure child safety around the ELECTROLUX ESF 6220, please follow these guidelines:

• Ensure children are adequately supervised and do not play with the dishwasher. There is a risk of children shutting themselves inside (risk of suffocation).

• Keep packaging materials like films and styrofoam away from children as they can be dangerous.

• Dishwasher detergents can cause burns to the eyes, mouth, and throat. Always observe the manufacturer’s safety instructions for detergents.

• Water inside the dishwasher is not suitable for drinking. Remnants of detergent can pose a risk of burns.

• When disposing of the dishwasher, unplug it, cut off the mains cable, and break the door lock so it no longer shuts.

For the correct and safe use of your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220, adhere to the following:

• Only wash household dishes in the dishwasher. Using it for other purposes may cause damage for which the manufacturer accepts no liability.

• Use only special salt, detergent, and rinse aid specifically designed for household dishwashers.

• Do not put solvents in the dishwasher, as there is a risk of explosion.

• Keep the dishwasher door closed when not loading or unloading to prevent tripping hazards.

• Place sharp knives and cutlery with sharp edges in the cutlery tray or upper rack to avoid injury.

• Do not sit or stand on the open door, as the appliance may tip over.

• In case of a fault, turn off the water tap, switch off the appliance, and unplug it from the mains.

• The anti-flood system requires the appliance to be connected to the mains and correctly installed to function.

• Always shut off the water supply at the tap when the dishwasher will not be used for long periods, such as when you are on holiday.

The door safety catch on your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 prevents children from opening the door by mistake.

To set the safety catch:

1. Locate the catch on the left inside the door handle.

2. Push this catch across to the right (e.g., with the handle of a spoon) to engage it.

To open the door with the safety catch set:

1. First, move the door handle to the left until you feel a slight resistance.

2. Then, pull the door handle forwards to open the door.

To cancel the safety catch:

1. Push the catch completely across to the left with your finger.

• Only connect the dishwasher to a hot water supply if your hot water is not electrically heated.

• Ensure the water softener is correctly adjusted for your local water hardness.

• Do not pre-rinse dishes under running water.

• For a small load, the load sensor will automatically adjust the water amount and shorten the programme. However, it is more economical to always wash with a full load.

• Select a wash programme that suits the type and soil level of the dishes.

• Use no more detergent, special salt, or rinse aid than recommended in the operating instructions.

The control panel on the ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 has several indicators:

Multidisplay Lights:

The 3 lights on the multidisplay can indicate:

• The current stage of the selected wash program (Top light, Middle light, Bottom light).

• Which fault has occurred in the dishwasher (indicated by flashing patterns).

Salt Control Indicator:

• When the salt indicator light is on, it means the dishwasher needs a refill of special salt. This indicator will not light up while a wash program is running.

You can set the water softener on your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 either manually or electronically. The dishwasher must be switched off before starting.

Setting Manually:

1. Open the dishwasher door.

2. Remove the lower rack.

3. Turn the hardness range switch to position 0 or 1, according to the water hardness table in your manual.

4. Replace the lower rack.

Setting Electronically:

1. Press the ON/OFF button. If other indicators are lit, reset the cycle by pressing function buttons 2 and 3 simultaneously for about 2 seconds.

2. Press and hold function buttons 2 and 3 simultaneously. The LED indicators in function buttons 1 to 3 will start to flash.

3. Press function button 1 again. The LED for button 1 and the end-of-cycle LED will flash. The number of flashes corresponds to the current hardness setting.

4. Press function button 1 repeatedly to increase the hardness setting by 1 degree (setting 1 follows setting 10). Refer to the table for the correct setting for your water hardness.

5. Once the correct setting is selected, press the ON/OFF button to save it.

The water hardness settings for the ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 can be adjusted manually or electronically based on your local water hardness, measured in German degrees (°d) or mmol/l.

* factory setting

Only use special salt designed for dishwashers. Do not use culinary salt. Fill with salt before the first use or when the salt indicator light is on.

1. Open the door and remove the lower rack.

2. Unscrew the lid on the salt container by turning it anti-clockwise.

3. For the first use only: Fill the salt container with water.

4. Place the supplied funnel on the container opening.

5. Fill the container with special salt (approx. 1.0-1.5 kg). Do not overfill. Water will be displaced and run out, which is normal.

6. Clean any salt remnants from the container opening.

7. Turn the lid clockwise to tighten it fully. A loose lid can lead to poor wash results. It’s recommended to run a rinse program after filling to wash away any spilt salt.

Note: If your water hardness is less than 4°d, you do not need to use special salt.

Use only branded rinse aid for dishwashers for spot-free, gleaming dishes.

Filling with Rinse Aid:

Fill the rinse aid dispenser when the indicator window shows a dark point surrounded by a light ring, or before the first use.

1. Open the dishwasher door. The rinse aid compartment is on the inside of the door.

2. Press the release button to open the compartment lid.

3. Fill with rinse aid up to the “max” level (approx. 140 ml).

4. Close the lid and press until it clicks into place.

5. Wipe up any spilt rinse aid with a cloth to prevent excess foam during the wash.

Adjusting Rinse Aid Dosing:

The dose is factory set at 4 and can be adjusted from 1 to 6. Only change the setting if you see streaks, milky spots, or dried water marks on your glasses.

1. Open the dishwasher door.

2. Press the release button to open the rinse aid compartment lid.

3. Turn the adjuster to the desired dose level (1 for minimum, 6 for maximum).

4. Close the lid until it locks into place.

The following items are not suitable for washing in the ELECTROLUX ESF 6220:

• Cutlery with wooden, horn, china, or mother of pearl handles.

• Plastic items that are not heat resistant.

• Older cutlery with cement that is not temperature resistant.

• Bonded cutlery items or dishes.

• Pewter or copper items.

• Lead crystal glass.

• Steel items subject to rusting.

• Wooden platters.

• Items made from synthetic fibres.

• Sponges, household cloths, and any object that can absorb water.

The following items have limited suitability:

• Stoneware should only be washed if specifically marked as dishwasher-safe by the manufacturer.

• Glazed patterns may fade if machine washed frequently.

• Silver and aluminium parts have a tendency to discolour during washing. Food remnants like egg white, egg yolk, and mustard can cause staining on silver, so these should be cleaned off immediately if not washing straight away.

• Some types of glass can become dull after many washes.

For optimal cleaning, follow these loading guidelines for your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220:

General Loading Tips:

• Remove large food left-overs and soften remnants of burnt food in pans before loading.

• Ensure dishes and cutlery do not impede the rotation of the spray arms.

• Load hollow items like cups, glasses, and pans with the opening facing downwards.

• Avoid letting dishes and cutlery lie inside one another or cover each other.

• To prevent damage, glasses should not touch each other.

Loading the Cutlery Basket:

• Long, pointed items of cutlery are a hazard and should be laid horizontally in the upper basket.

• Position the two chopstick holders in the corners of the basket.

• Place short knives, forks, and spoons with the handle downwards into the latticed insert.

Loading the Lower Basket (Pans, Plates):

• Load large and heavily soiled dishes like plates (up to 29cm) and pans in the lower rack.

• Depending on your model, the rear plate insert can be removed or folded to make space for larger items.

Loading the Upper Basket (Cups, Glasses):

• Load small, delicate items and long, pointed cutlery in the upper rack.

• Arrange plates and dishes on and under the folding cup racks.

• The cup racks can be folded up for taller items.

• Place wine, champagne, and brandy glasses in the cut-outs on the cup racks.

The height of the upper basket in your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 can be adjusted, even when loaded, to accommodate taller items in either the upper or lower rack.

Maximum Height of Dishes:

• With upper basket raised: 22 cm in Upper Rack, 30 cm in Lower Rack.

• With upper basket lowered: 24 cm in Upper Rack, 29 cm in Lower Rack.

Lowering the Upper Basket:

1. Pull the upper basket out completely.

2. Holding the basket by the handle, lift it as far as it will go and then lower it vertically. The basket will engage in the lower position.

Raising the Upper Basket:

1. Pull the upper basket out completely.

2. Holding the basket by the handle, lift it until it engages in the higher position.

Fill the detergent dispenser before the start of a wash programme (except for a pre-wash). The dispenser is located on the inside of the dishwasher door.

1. If the lid is closed, press the release button (1) to spring it open.

2. Fill the main dispenser with detergent. The markings indicate dosing levels: “20” for approx. 20 ml, and “30” for approx. 30 ml.

3. If dishes are very heavily soiled, you can put additional detergent into the adjacent chamber (2). This detergent will be used during the pre-wash phase.

4. Close the lid and press until it locks into place.

Always observe the manufacturer’s dosing recommendations on the detergent packaging.

When using “3 in 1” or other combination detergent tablets, please follow this advice:

• First, check that your local water hardness is compatible with these products, as per the detergent manufacturer’s instructions on the packaging.

• Important: Always place the tablets in the detergent dispenser, not in the tub or the cutlery basket. Placing them elsewhere will result in poorer wash results.

• When using these products, the rinse-aid and salt indicator lights are no longer needed. It may be helpful to switch off the rinse aid function and select the lowest water hardness setting.

• Detergent tablets from different brands dissolve at different speeds. For this reason, some may not be fully effective during short programmes. It is recommended to use wash programmes with a pre-wash when using tablets.

• If you decide to switch back to a standard detergent system, you should refill both the salt and rinse aid compartments, switch the water hardness setting to the highest possible position, and run three normal cycles without a load before readjusting the hardness setting for your region.

Choose the most suitable wash programme for your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 using this table:

¹ The various stages in the wash programme have different sounds because the dishes are washed more intensely for short periods during certain stages of the wash programme to improve cleaning.

Starting a Cycle:

1. Check that dishes are loaded correctly and spray arms can rotate freely.

2. Turn on the water tap fully.

3. Close the door.

4. Press the ON/OFF button.

5. Press the button for the desired wash programme. The cycle will begin after approximately 3 seconds.

Changing a Cycle:

If you need to change a cycle after it has started, press and hold the button for the new programme. The indicator for the current cycle will flash, then after several seconds, the indicator for the new cycle will flash. Release the button, and the new cycle will begin.

Interrupting a Cycle:

Open the dishwasher door carefully, as hot steam may escape. The cycle will stop. Close the door to resume the cycle.

Aborting a Cycle (RESET):

1. Press and hold function buttons 2 and 3 simultaneously.

2. The cycle display will flash and then go out.

3. Release the buttons. The cycle is now aborted.

1. Switch off the dishwasher when the end-of-cycle indicator is illuminated on the programme progress display by pressing the ON/OFF button.

2. Open the door carefully, as hot steam may escape.

3. It is recommended to leave the dishes in the dishwasher for approximately 15 minutes to cool down and dry better. Hot dishes are sensitive to knocks.

4. Empty the lower rack first, then the upper rack. This prevents any water from the upper rack from dripping onto the dishes in the lower rack.

Regularly cleaning the filters and spray arms ensures good washing results. The dishwasher must not be used without its filters.

Cleaning the Filters:

1. Open the door and remove the lower basket.

2. Turn the handle of the filter system (A) about 1/4 of a turn anti-clockwise and remove the entire system (B).

3. Grasp the fine filter (1) and remove it from the micro-filter (2).

4. Remove the flat filter (3) from the base of the washing compartment.

5. Clean all filters thoroughly under running water.

6. Reassemble the filters in reverse order, ensuring the flat filter does not protrude above the base. Lock the filter system by turning the handle clockwise as far as it will go.

Cleaning the Spray Arms:

1. Upper spray arm: To remove, tilt it down hard. Clean the jets with a pointed object (e.g., wire) and rinse with water. To replace, press it firmly back onto the connecting piece until it snaps into place.

2. Bottom spray arm: To remove, pull it upwards out of its catch. Clean the jets and rinse with water. To replace, press it down firmly onto the connecting piece until it snaps into place.

If your ELECTROLUX ESF 6220 displays a flashing error code, you may be able to rectify the fault yourself. After remedying the error, press the button of the commenced dishwashing cycle to continue.

If the dishes are still dirty:

• The wrong wash program may have been selected.

• The dishes may have been arranged in a way that blocked water from reaching all surfaces.

• The dish racks may be overloaded.

• The filters in the base may be dirty or incorrectly positioned.

• Too little or no detergent was used.

• For limescale deposits: the salt dispenser may be empty or the water softener unit is set incorrectly.

• The drain hose may be connected wrongly.

If the dishes are wet and dull:

• Rinse aid was not used or the container is empty.

If there are streaks, milky spots, or a bluish coating on glasses and dishes:

• Decrease the rinse aid dosing setting.

If there are dried water drops on glasses and dishes:

• Increase the rinse aid dosing setting.

• The detergent may be the cause. Contact the detergent manufacturer’s consumer advisor.

General Installation:

• Install the dishwasher on a firm, level floor. Adjust the threaded feet with a screwdriver to ensure it is stable.

• Ensure the drain hose, inlet hose, and mains cable are not kinked or crushed.

• The dishwasher must be screwed tightly to the work surface or adjoining units to prevent tipping.

Water Connection:

• The dishwasher can be connected to cold or hot water supplies up to a max of 60°C. It must not be connected to open hot water appliances.

• Permitted water pressure is between 1 and 10 bar. If pressure is above 10 bar, a pressure reduction valve is required.

• Connect the threaded inlet hose to a tap with a 3/4 inch external thread. Tighten the nut hand-tight and check for leaks.

Water Drain:

• The drain hose must not be kinked, crushed, or entangled.

• The connection height must be between a minimum of 40 cm and a maximum of 1 metre above the lower edge of the machine.

• For connection to a siphon, the outlet of the drain hose (ø 19 mm) fits standard siphons. The siphon connection must have an outer diameter of at least 15 mm.

Electrical Connection:

• Ensure the mains voltage and current rating at the site match the information on the dishwasher’s rating plate.

• The mains plug must be accessible after installation.

• If hard-wired, the appliance must be connected via an all-pole isolator with a contact gap of > 3 mm.
