What are the key safety instructions for using the EGO CH7000 charger?

To ensure safe operation of the EGO CH7000, please follow these instructions:

Work Area Safety:

Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive environments, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks, which may ignite the dust or fumes.

Electrical Safety:

Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.

Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.

Charger-Specific Safety Rules:

Before using the battery charger, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the battery charger, the battery, and the product using the battery.

Do not use the charger outdoors or expose it to wet or damp conditions.

Do not handle the charger, including the plug and terminals, with wet hands.

Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. Only charge EGO lithium-ion rechargeable batteries.

Do not abuse the cord or charger. Never use the cord to carry the charger. Do not pull the cord to disconnect the plug.

Keep the cord and charger away from heat to prevent damage to housing or internal parts.

Do not allow gasoline, oils, or petroleum-based products to come in contact with plastic parts.

Do not operate the charger with a damaged cord or plug.

Do not operate the charger if it has received a sharp blow, been dropped, or otherwise been damaged in any way.

Do not disassemble the charger. Take it to an authorized service technician when service or repair is required.

Unplug the charger from the electrical outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

Disconnect the charger from the power supply when not in use.

To reduce risk of electric shock, do not touch the uninsulated portion of the output connector or uninsulated battery terminal.

How do I charge a battery pack with the EGO CH7000 charger?

NOTICE: Lithium-Ion battery packs are shipped partially charged. Before using it the first time, fully charge the battery pack.

1. Connect the EGO CH7000 charger to the power supply (120V~, 60Hz). The 5 charging indication LEDs will briefly shine green and then turn off, indicating that the charger is working correctly.

2. Align the raised ribs of the battery pack with the battery-mounting slots in the charger; slide the battery pack down onto the charger.

3. The charger will communicate with the battery pack to evaluate its condition.

4. While the battery pack is charging, the 5 LEDs on the charger will shine green in sequence, in a clockwise direction, to indicate the charge level. The fan in the charger works continuously to cool the battery pack.

5. When the battery pack is fully charged, the charging indication LEDs on the charger will stop alternating and shine green continuously. The power indicator on the battery pack will go out. Wait until the cooling fan stops, then remove the battery pack from the charger and disconnect the charger from the power supply.

6. The battery pack will fully charge if left on the charger, but it will not overcharge. If the battery pack remains on the charger for one month or more, it will perform self-maintenance and drop to 30% charge capacity. If this occurs, reinstall the battery pack on the charger to recharge it fully.

What do the LED indicators on the EGO CH7000 charger mean?

The LED indicators on the EGO CH7000 show the charging status. There are 4 Green LEDs and 1 Red/Green bi-color LED in the middle. The following table explains the different light combinations:

LED Indicator Symbol Battery Pack Status LED 3# Status Battery Power Action
Dotted line with ‘X’ Defective Flashing RED or OFF Battery pack or charger is defective
Thermometer icon Cold/Hot Battery Shining RED Charging will begin when the battery pack returns to 37°F (3°C) – 135°F (57°C)
Battery icon with three dots Charging LED 1# Flashing GREEN <15% Charging
LED 1# & 2# Shining GREEN alternately 15% to 35%
LED 1#, 2#, & 3# Shining GREEN alternately 35% to 55%
LED 1#, 2#, 3#, & 4# Shining GREEN alternately 55% to 75%
LED 1#, 2#, 3#, 4#, & 5# Shining GREEN alternately ≥75%
Solid battery icon Full Charged Shining GREEN continuously 90% to 100% Charging is complete. Maintenance charging.

What happens when charging a hot or cold battery pack with the EGO CH7000?

If the battery pack is outside of the normal temperature range, LED 3# on the EGO CH7000 will shine RED. When the battery pack cools down to approximately 135°F (57°C) or warms to more than 37°F (3°C), the charger will automatically begin charging, and the corresponding LEDs on the charger will sequence normally.

What should I do if the EGO CH7000 indicates a defective battery pack or charger?

If the EGO CH7000 charger detects a problem, LED 3# will begin flashing RED, or all the LEDs will turn off. Follow these steps:

1. If it registers as defective, remove and reinsert the battery pack in the charger. If the LEDs still indicate “defective” a second time, try charging a different battery pack.

2. If a different battery pack charges normally, dispose of the defective battery pack (refer to the instructions in the battery pack manual).

3. If a different battery pack also indicates “defective”, unplug the charger and wait until the flashing LED 3# goes out, then reconnect the charger plug to the power supply. If no charger LEDs shine green briefly for self-inspection when plugged in, or if LED 3# on the charger still displays defective, the charger itself may be defective.

How do I perform maintenance on the EGO CH7000 charger?

WARNING: To avoid serious personal injury, always remove the battery pack from the tool when cleaning or performing any maintenance.

WARNING: It is not recommended to use compressed dry air as a cleaning method for the charger. If cleaning with compressed air is the only method to apply, always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields. If the operation is dusty, also wear a dust mask.

General Maintenance:

Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.

WARNING: Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils, etc. come in contact with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken or destroy plastic which may result in serious personal injury.

How do I use the wall-mount holes on the EGO CH7000 charger?

The EGO CH7000 charger has hanging holes for convenient storage. To mount it on a wall, install screws in the wall 3 inches (76mm) apart. Use screws that are sufficiently strong to hold the combined weight of the charger and the battery pack.

How do I troubleshoot the EGO CH7000 charger?

Problem Cause Solution
Charger doesn’t work. LED #3 flashes red or all the LEDs turn off. Battery pack or charger is defective or there is a bad connection between the battery pack and charger.

1. Try to remove and reinsert the battery pack in the charger.

2. Try charging a different battery pack.

3. Unplug the charger and wait until LED #3 turns off, then reconnect the plug to the power supply.

Charger doesn’t work and LED #3 shines red. Battery pack is too hot or too cold. Allow the battery pack to reach normal temperature. Charging will begin when the battery pack returns to a temperature between 37°F (3°C) and 135°F (57°C).
