How do I assemble the DENON DP-300F turntable platter and belt?
Before beginning assembly, do not remove the twist tie for clamping the tone arm and do not connect the power supply cord until assembly is complete.
Step 1. Mount the turntable platter on the center spindle.
Step 2. Turn the turntable so that the roller is visible through the square hole with the ribbon tape for catching the belt.
Step 3. Pinch the ribbon tape and catch the belt on the outer center of the roller. Remove the ribbon tape once the belt is caught. Turn the turntable slowly 5 or 6 turns to ensure the belt is caught at the center of the roller.
Step 4. Mount the turntable sheet on the platter.
Once assembly is finished, you can remove the twist tie for clamping the tone arm.
How should I set the equalizer switch on my DENON DP-300F?
The DENON DP-300F has a built-in equalizer. The switch setting depends on the input terminal you are connecting to on your amplifier or audio system.
OFF: Set the switch to OFF when connecting to a PHONO input terminal. In this case, the record player’s internal equalizer cannot be used.
ON: Set the switch to ON when connecting to a terminal other than a PHONO input (e.g., AUX, LINE IN). In this case, the record player’s internal equalizer can be used.
Note: The equalizer switch is set to the “ON” position upon shipment from the factory. If the switch is not set properly, the sound may be extremely weak or distorted.
How do I mount the counterweight and headshell on the DENON DP-300F?
Mounting the counterweight:
Insert the counterweight onto the shaft at the back of the tone arm and screw it in. Ensure you mount it with the stylus pressure adjustment ring facing towards the front.
Mounting the head shell with cartridge:
Insert the head shell with cartridge onto the tone arm and fasten it in place with the lock nut.
How do I install the dust cover on the DENON DP-300F?
Step 1. Insert the 2 included hinges securely into the holders at the back of the cabinet.
Step 2. Mount the hinge retainer sections of the dust cover onto the hinges. Insert them fully in the direction of the arrow.
When mounting or removing the dust cover, hold it near the hinge retainer sections. To remove the dust cover, open it fully then pull out in the direction opposite the arrow.
How do I set the stylus pressure and anti-skating on the DENON DP-300F?
Turn the power off when making these adjustments. Be careful not to damage the stylus tip on the turntable sheet.
Step 1. Set the anti-skating knob to “0”.
Step 2. Lower the lifter lever and move the tone arm over the turntable. If the cartridge has a removable stylus cover, remove it.
Step 3. Balance the tone arm by moving the counterweight forward or backward until the tone arm is parallel to the turntable surface when you are not touching it.
Step 4. Set the tone arm back on the armrest.
Step 5. Hold the counterweight with a finger so it does not move. Turn only the stylus pressure adjustment ring so that its “0” mark is lined up with the center line of the tone arm’s rear shaft.
Step 6. Turn the counterweight and ring together and set to the appropriate stylus pressure for the cartridge. The appropriate stylus pressure for the included cartridge is 2.0 g, so you should set the ring to “2”.
Step 7. Turn the anti-skating knob and set it to the same value as the cartridge’s stylus pressure (e.g., “2”).
How should I connect the DENON DP-300F to my amplifier or audio system?
Before connecting, turn off the power of the device to which the record player is being connected. Do not plug the DENON DP-300F’s power plug into an outlet until all connections are finished.
Connecting to a PHONO input terminal:
1. Set the Equalizer switch on the back of the turntable to OFF.
2. Connect the pin-plug cable to the PHONO IN L (white) and R (red) terminals on your pre-main amplifier.
Connecting to a terminal other than PHONO (e.g., AUX IN):
1. Set the Equalizer switch on the back of the turntable to ON.
2. Connect the pin-plug cable to the AUDIO IN (or AUX IN) L (white) and R (red) terminals on your pre-main amplifier or audio system.
After all connections are proper, plug the record player’s power plug into an AC outlet. If the player starts operating when plugged in, press the STOP button.
How do I play a record automatically on the DENON DP-300F?
First, raise the stylus cover before starting playback.
Step 1. Place the record on the turntable. For EP (“doughnut”) records, use the 45 rpm adapter.
Step 2. Set the record’s playing speed using the SPEED button (33 or 45).
Step 3. Set the record size using the SIZE button (30 cm or 17 cm).
Step 4. Press START and hold it in for about 1 second. The turntable will start turning and playback will begin automatically.

Removing the cartridge:
1. Turn the head shell lock nut to loosen and remove the head shell.
2. Remove the cartridge mount screws.
3. Disconnect the lead wires on the cartridge side.

After replacing the cartridge, you must readjust the horizontal balance, stylus pressure, and anti-skating value.
What should I do if the power does not turn on or the turntable does not turn on my DENON DP-300F?
If your DENON DP-300F does not turn on, check the following:
1. Power supply cord is not fully inserted. Check the power connection.
2. Drive belt is detached from the turntable. Check the drive belt and driving roller. If the drive belt is detached, re-attach it using the following procedure:
1. Remove the turntable platter and turn it upside down.
2. Catch the belt on the inside perimeter.
3. Turn the turntable back right side up and pass the tape ribbon through the hole and between the turn tape and drive belt.
4. Mount the turntable, referring to the assembly instructions.
What should I do if there is no sound produced from my DENON DP-300F?
If no sound is produced from your DENON DP-300F, check these possible causes:
• The pin-plug cable is not properly connected. Check the connection to your amplifier.
• The amplifier’s function is not set for the terminals to which the turntable is connected. Check the amplifier’s settings and ensure the correct input source is selected.
• The replaceable stylus is not properly mounted. Check that the stylus is correctly installed.
What can I do if the sound from my DENON DP-300F is scratchy, skips, or is distorted?
If the sound is scratchy, the stylus skips, or the sound is distorted, consider the following solutions:
• The stylus or record is dirty. Gently clean the stylus with a soft brush and clean the record. You may need to remove the dirt or replace the stylus.
• The stylus is worn or the record is scratched. Replace the stylus. If the record is scratched, this may not be fixable.
• Check the record for damage.
Why is the sound from my DENON DP-300F extremely weak or too strong, and how can I fix it?
If the sound from your DENON DP-300F is either extremely weak or too strong and distorted, the most likely cause is that the equalizer switch is not set at the proper position. Set the switch according to the terminal to which the player is connected (PHONO IN requires the switch to be OFF; other inputs like AUX IN require the switch to be ON).
What causes howling from my DENON DP-300F and how can I stop it?
Howling, a type of audio feedback, can be caused by the following issues:
• The player is too close to the speakers. Move the player and speakers apart to increase the distance between them.
• The player is placed in an unstable position. Check the player’s place of installation and ensure it is on a flat and solid surface.
• The playback sound is too loud. Adjust the amplifier’s volume to a lower level.
Why won’t the tone arm move when the START button is pressed on my DENON DP-300F?
If the tone arm does not move even when the START button is pressed, check the following:
• The tone arm is clamped to the armrest. Remove the tone arm’s clamp.
• The power supply cord is not properly connected. Check the connection of the power supply cord.
