Dell Display Manager (DDM) is a Microsoft Windows application used to manage a monitor or a group of monitors. It allows for manual adjustment of the displayed image, assignment of automatic settings, energy management, window organization, image rotation, and other features on selected Dell monitors. After installation, DDM runs each time the system starts and places its icon in the notification tray.

NOTE: Dell Display Manager uses the DDC/CI (Display Data Channel/Command Interface) channel to communicate with your DELL E2220H monitor. You must ensure that DDC/CI is enabled in the monitor’s OSD (On-Screen Display) menu.

To open the Quick Settings dialog box, click the Dell Display Manager’s notification tray icon. This dialog box allows for convenient adjustment of your DELL E2220H monitor’s brightness and contrast levels. You can select either Manual Mode or Auto Mode, and the screen resolution can be changed. The Quick Settings dialog also provides access to the advanced user interface of Dell Display Manager for more functions.

From the Basic tab in Dell Display Manager, you can select ‘Manual Mode’ to manually choose a preset mode (e.g., Standard) or select ‘Auto Mode’ which applies a preset mode based on the active application. An on-screen message will display the current preset mode whenever it changes. The Brightness and Contrast for your DELL E2220H can also be directly adjusted from this tab.

NOTE: When multiple Dell monitors are connected, you can select “Enable display matrix control” to apply brightness, contrast, and color presets controls to all connected monitors simultaneously.

The Auto Mode tab allows you to associate a specific Preset Mode with a specific application. When Auto Mode is enabled, Dell Display Manager will automatically switch the DELL E2220H to the corresponding Preset Mode whenever the associated application is activated.

To add a new application to the assignment list, simply drag the application’s icon from the desktop, Windows Start Menu, or elsewhere, and drop it onto the current list. You can then select a preset mode for it from the dropdown menu.

NOTE: Preset Mode assignments for batch files, scripts, loaders, and non-executable files such as zip archives or packed files, are not supported.

Easy Arrange is a feature in Dell Display Manager that helps you effectively organize your application windows on the desktop. To use it:

1. First, choose a pre-defined layout pattern that suits your work. You can press “>” or use the Page Up/Page Down key to find more layouts.

2. Drag your application windows into the defined zones, and they will automatically position and resize to fit.

3. To create a custom layout, arrange the open windows as you desire and then click Save.

For Windows 10 users, you can apply different window layouts for each virtual desktop. If you often use the Windows snap feature, you can select the “Hold down the SHIFT key to enable zone positioning” checkbox. This gives Windows snap priority over Easy Arrange, and you will need to press the Shift key to use Easy Arrange positioning.

If you are using multiple monitors in an array or matrix, the Easy Arrange layout can be applied across all the monitors as one single desktop. To enable this, select the “Span multiple monitors” checkbox in the Easy Arrange tab. You need to align your monitors properly for this feature to work effectively.

The Input Manager tab in Dell Display Manager provides ways to manage video inputs connected to your DELL E2220H. All available video input ports are listed, and you can give each input a custom name by clicking the text field and editing it. Save your changes after editing.

You can define a shortcut key to quickly switch to your favorite input. You can also define another shortcut key to quickly switch between two specific inputs if you often work between them. Alternatively, you can use the dropdown list in the Input Manager tab to switch to any available input source.

NOTE: DDM communicates with your monitor even when it is displaying video from another computer. You can install DDM on the computer you frequently use and control input switching from it. You may also install DDM on other computers connected to the monitor.

Dell Display Manager (DDM) can help you restore application windows to their previous positions when you reconnect your computer to your DELL E2220H monitor. You can access this feature by right-clicking the DDM icon in the notification tray.

Auto-restore window layout: If you choose this option, DDM tracks and remembers your application windows’ positions. DDM automatically puts the application windows back into their original positions when you reconnect your PC to your monitor(s).

Save/Restore current window layout: If you want to go back to a favorite layout after moving windows around, you can first select “Save current window layout” and later select “Restore saved window layout” to return to that configuration.

You may use monitors with different models or resolutions in your daily routine. DDM is able to know the monitor you have reconnected and restore application positions accordingly.

In case you need to replace a monitor in a monitor matrix configuration, you can save the window layout before replacement and restore the layout after the new monitor is installed.

NOTE: You should keep your applications running in order to benefit from this feature. DDM does not launch applications.

On supported Dell models like the DELL E2220H, an Options tab is available in Dell Display Manager that provides PowerNap energy conservation options. You can choose to:

1. Reduce brightness when screensaver activates: This sets the monitor’s brightness to the minimum level.

2. Put the display to sleep when screensaver activates: This puts the monitor to sleep.

If DDM does not work with your DELL E2220H, it will show an icon in your notification tray with a message “Please connect a supported Dell monitor”. Clicking on the icon shows a more detailed error message. Please note that DDM only works with Dell branded monitors.

If DDM is unable to detect and/or communicate with your supported DELL E2220H monitor, please take the following actions to troubleshoot:

1. Make sure the video cable is properly connected between your monitor and your computer. Ensure the connectors are firmly inserted into position.

2. Check the monitor OSD to ensure DDC/CI is enabled.

3. Make sure you have the right graphics card driver from the vendor (Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, etc.). The graphics driver is often the cause of DDM failure.

4. Remove any docking stations, cable extenders, and converters between the monitor and the graphics port. Some low-cost extenders, hubs, or converters may not support DDC/CI properly and can cause DDM to fail. Update the driver of such a device if the latest version is available.

5. Restart your computer.

DDM may not work with the following monitors:

• Dell monitor models that shipped earlier than 2013 and D-series of Dell monitors.

• Gaming monitors using Nvidia-based G-sync technology.

• Virtual and wireless displays do not support DDC/CI.

• Some early models of DP 1.2 monitors, it may be necessary to disable MST/DP 1.2 using the monitor OSD.

If your computer is connected to the Internet, you will be prompted to upgrade to a new version of DDM when it is available. It is recommended to download and install the latest DDM application.

You may also manually check for a new version by right-clicking on the DDM icon in the notification tray while pressing and holding the ‘shift’ key. A context menu will appear with an option to “Check for new version…”.
