SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product.

WARNING

Never exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended towing capacity.

CAUTION

The RVibrake Breakaway System is required by law to bring your towed vehicle to a stop in the event that the towed vehicle becomes completely un-attached from your motor home. Do not operate your RVibrake without a properly functioning Breakaway.

NOTICE

Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly.

Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.

This installation requires drilling and hole enlargement.

Step 1. Find a convenient spot on the front of the towed vehicle. Upside down under the bumper of the driver’s side is usually the best place.

Step 2. Clean the mounting surface and attach the Velcro patch (4).

Step 3. Attach the junction box (1) to the Velcro patch (4) so that the pin with the ring faces forward and the wiring harness feeds into the engine compartment.

Step 4. Place the mounting bracket (3) over the junction box (1) and mark the mounting holes.

Step 5. Remove the mounting bracket (3) and junction box (1). If the mounting surface is plastic or thin sheet metal, drill the marked holes using a 1/8″ drill bit and use the sheet metal screws (8) provided. If the mounting surface is thicker metal, drill the marked holes using a #25 drill bit, tap the holes using a 10-32 tap and use the 10-32 machine screws (7) provided.

Step 6. Replace the junction box (1) and attach the mounting bracket (3) using the sheet metal screws (8) or the 10-32 machine screws (7) provided.

Step 1. Find a location on the firewall that will allow you to feed the wiring harness into the passenger compartment of the towed vehicle. Use of an existing hole would be most convenient.

Step 2. If there is no existing hole, drill a 15/32″ hole through the firewall.

CAUTION: Be sure to inspect the opposite side of the firewall to ensure you are not drilling into any components of the towed vehicle. In some cases, it is easier to drill a hole from inside the passenger compartment, push a solid wire through the hole into the engine compartment, attach the black wire to it, and pull it into the passenger compartment.

Step 3. Starting from the junction box (1), route the black wire up to the firewall making sure that it is away from any hot surfaces in the engine compartment using the wire ties provided (5).

Step 4. Feed the black wire through the hole in the firewall and into the passenger compartment.

Step 5. Split the rubber grommet and place over the wire and work it into the 15/32″ hole in the firewall.

WARNING: Failure to properly install the rubber grommet may result in harmful fumes entering the passenger compartment or damage to the wiring harness.

Step 1. Attach the small clip on the coiled cable (2) to the ring on the junction box (1). Clip the larger clip on the coiled cable (2) to the back of the motor home.

CAUTION: Do not wrap the coiled cable around the tow bar as this could prevent proper activation.

Step 2. Install the RVibrake into your towed vehicle and plug the breakaway wiring harness into the side of the housing.

Step 3. Before starting on each trip, pull the breakaway pin to test that the Breakaway system activates the RVibrake.

Step 4. When RVibrake is not in use, coil the wiring harness under the dash. Do not leave the plug on the floor as water could get to the plug and cause rust.
