Do not use this toaster for other than intended use.
OVERSIZE FOODS, METAL FOIL PACKAGES OR UTENSILS MUST NOT BE INSERTED IN THE TOASTER, AS THEY MAY INVOLVE A RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK.
A FIRE MAY OCCUR IF THE TOASTER IS COVERED WITH OR TOUCHING FLAMMABLE MATERIALS, INCLUDING SUCH ITEMS AS CURTAINS, DRAPERIES AND WALLS, WHEN IN OPERATION. DO NOT OPERATE UNDER WALL CABINETS.
Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged into electrical outlet.
TO AVOID POSSIBILITY OF FIRE, DO NOT LEAVE TOASTER UNATTENDED DURING USE.
What should I do if the polarized plug does not fit fully into the outlet?
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
How does the Extra Wide & Long Toasting Slot function?
The 1-1/2″ Wide Toaster Slot allows for toasting a wide variety of breads, bagels and pastries.
How do I use the Browning Dial?
Turn Browning Dial counterclockwise for lighter toast and clockwise for darker toast. The color band around the dial indicates the level of brownness – the darker the band, the darker the toast.
How does the Start / Carriage Lever work?
It lowers bread into the slot to start the toaster and pops up automatically at the end of the cycle. It can also be used to pop up toast before the end of the cycle.
How do the controls for special settings work?
The controls are easy to clean. LED Indicator lights illuminate when a Setting is selected.
What does the Defrost Setting do?
The one-touch button control automatically defrosts, then toasts frozen items by adding time to the toasting cycle.
What does the Reheat Setting do?
The button control reheats without further browning.
What does the Cancel Control do?
The button control interrupts the toasting process and cancels special settings.
How does the Always Even™ Shade Control work?
It electronically monitors and adjusts the toaster’s internal temperature to provide consistent toasting results from one use to the next. Heating elements deliver even heat for uniform browning.
How does the Self-Centering Bread Rack function?
It centers breads of all shapes and sizes in the middle of the toaster chamber for more even toasting results.
How does the Extra-Lift Control Lever work?
It brings the toast close to the top of the toaster, making it easy to remove even small items like English muffins.
How do I clean crumbs from the toaster?
The Slide-out Crumb Tray removes easily, so crumbs can be cleaned from the bottom of the toaster.
How can I store the cord?
The Cord Storage conveniently stores excess cord and keeps the countertop neat.
How do I prepare the toaster for use?
Unwind the power cord. Check that the crumb tray is in place and that there is nothing in the toaster slot. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
How do I start toasting bread?
1. Insert slice(s) of bread. Be sure that the bread carriage is in the up position.
2. Set the Browning Control. Turn the rotary browning dial to the desired position. Toast gets darker as the dial is turned clockwise from left to right. The browning dial can be adjusted either before or after pressing down the Start / Carriage Lever.
There is a color band around the dial to select the browning setting. The browning guide is as follows:
| Desired Color | Dial Position |
|---|---|
| Light | 1st third of color band |
| Medium | 2nd third of color band |
| Dark | Final third of color band |
3. Begin Toasting. Press the Start / Carriage Lever down until it locks into position. The toaster will start.
4. If desired, Select a Special Setting on the button control after the Start / Carriage Lever is pushed down. If no Special Settings are selected, the toaster will brown your toast based on the selection you have made on the browning dial.
What happens when a Special Setting is selected?
When you press one of these Special Settings, a red LED light will come on above the selected feature button.
How do I stop toasting before the cycle is finished?
When the toasting cycle is finished, the toast will be raised. If you wish to stop the cycle before it is finished, simply press the Cancel Button. You can also lift up the Start / Carriage Lever to stop the cycle. Pressing the Cancel Button will also cancel the Special Settings.
What affects toasting times and results?
Toasting is a combination of cooking and drying the bread. Therefore, differences in moisture level from one bread to another can result in varying toasting times.
How should I adjust the setting for dry bread?
For slightly dry bread, use a lighter setting than you normally would.
How should I adjust the setting for fresh bread, whole wheat bread, or dense/moist breads?
For very fresh bread or whole wheat bread, use a darker setting than normal. Dense, moist breads may also require a darker setting.
How should I adjust the setting for breads with uneven surfaces like English muffins?
Breads with very uneven surfaces (such as English muffins) will require a higher (darker) browning setting.
What setting should I use for thickly cut pieces of bread, including bagels?
Thickly cut pieces of bread (including bagels) will take longer to toast, sometimes significantly longer, since more moisture must be evaporated from the bread before toasting can occur. For moister breads or very thick pieces you may need to make the toast setting darker than you normally would. Very thick pieces may require two cycles.
How should I prepare bagels for toasting?
Before toasting bagels, slice into two equal halves.
How should I prepare raisin breads, fruit breads, or fruit muffins for toasting?
When toasting raisin breads, fruit breads, or fruit muffins, remove any loose fruit, etc. from the surface of the bread before placing into the toaster. This will help prevent pieces from falling into the toaster or sticking on the guard wires in the slot.
How should I adjust the setting for a single slice of toast?
A single slice of toast requires less toasting time than two slices of bread. To prevent overtoasting of a single slice, set the browning control to a lighter setting than you normally would. Each chamber is designed for 2 slices of bread. By lowering the toasting time for a single slice, your bread won’t get too brown.
What precautions should I take when toasting toaster pastries?
Exercise caution with toaster pastries; the filling can become quite hot long before the surface of the pastry becomes browned. A lighter setting should be adequate. Never leave toaster pastries unattended while toasting or warming. Avoid iced pastries. The icing can melt onto inside of toaster or burn easily.
How should I prepare muffins for toasting and what setting should I use?
Muffins require longer toasting time than regular breads. Slice muffins vertically and remove paper wrapper before toasting.
How should I prepare English Muffins & Thick Sliced Breads for toasting and what setting should I use?
English Muffins & Thick Sliced Breads require longer toasting time than regular breads. We suggest that you increase the darkness setting on the browning dial to increase the toasting time.
What is the recommended maximum thickness for bread slices?
We recommend that thick slices be kept to a maximum of 1-1/4″.
What shade control setting is recommended for thick sliced Italian or Portuguese loaves?
Thick sliced Italian or Portuguese loaves normally require a lighter shade control setting than other thick sliced breads.
What setting should I use for long slices of bread that only fit one per slot?
If your bread slice is so long that a toaster slot can only accommodate a single slice, we suggest that you set the browning control to a lighter setting than you normally would.
How should I prepare croissants for toasting?
Croissants should not be more than 5″ long. Slice in half horizontally. Use a light to medium setting for toasting.
How do I defrost and warm frozen breads and pastries using the Defrost button?
The following breads and pastries should be defrosted and warmed using the Defrost button: Frozen Waffles, Pancakes, French Toast and Bagels. Press the Defrost button when defrosting and toasting waffles, pancakes, french toast and bagel halves. For best results, use a few toasting cycles at a low setting. A longer toasting time can result in waffles, pancakes or french toast that are toasted on the outside but cool or soggy on the inside.
What are some general tips for using the toasting slot?
Never force foods into the Toasting Slot. Foods should fit freely between the guard wires.
What types of breads should not be placed in the toaster to avoid fire hazard?
Do not place buttered breads or frosted pastries in the toaster, as this could create a fire hazard.
What commonly causes uneven toasting?
Uneven toasting is usually due to bread slices of uneven thickness.
What should never be inserted into the toasting slot?
Never insert hard objects into the toasting slot.
What should I do after using the toaster?
After use, unplug your toaster from the electrical outlet.
How do I use the Defrost Button?
The Defrost Button is designed to first defrost and then toast the bread, which extends the toasting cycle slightly.
1. Insert slice(s) of bread: Be sure the carriage is in the up position.
2. Set the Browning Control: Select desired browning with rotary browning dial.
3. Press the Start / Carriage Lever down until it locks into position.
4. Press the Defrost button. The LED will illuminate when this feature is selected.
How do I stop the Defrost cycle?
When the Defrost Cycle is complete, the toaster will raise the bread. If you wish to stop the cycle before it is finished, simply press the Cancel Button to interrupt.
How do I use the Reheat Button?
The Reheat feature allows you to reheat toasted bread without browning.
1. Insert slice(s) of bread: Be sure that the carriage is in the up position.
2. Press the Start / Carriage Lever down until it locks into position.
3. Press the Reheat Button.
How do I stop the Reheat cycle?
When the Reheat Cycle is complete, the toaster will raise the bread. If you wish to stop the cycle before it is finished, simply press the Cancel Button to interrupt or lift up on the Start/Carriage Lever.
What are the cleaning and maintenance instructions for the toaster?
Always allow the toaster to cool completely before cleaning.
1. Always unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet.
2. Do not use abrasive cleansers. Simply wipe the exterior with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Apply any cleansing agent to a cloth, not to the toaster, before cleaning.
3. To remove crumbs, slide out the Crumb Tray and discard crumbs. Wipe clean and replace. Never operate the toaster without the Crumb Tray in place.
How do I remove pieces of bread remaining in the toaster slots?
To remove any pieces of bread remaining in the toaster, turn the toaster upside down and gently shake. Never insert any hard or sharp instruments into the slot, as this could damage the toaster and cause a safety hazard.
How should I store the cord?
Never wrap the cord around the outside of the toaster. Use the cord storage cleats on the underside of the toaster.
