The CENTRODYNE SILENT 160 can be installed at any angle between 0 degrees to 90 degrees. A suitable mounting surface should meet these criteria:

Have an angle no greater than 90 degrees from the horizontal.

Have sufficient room at the printer RJ-45 jack to accommodate the mating connector and cable.

Have sufficient clearance for opening the printer door and loading paper.

Provide access to the platen-release lever.

Have threaded holes (or back-side access to attach nuts to the mounting screws) located to match the printer mounting holes.

When installing the CENTRODYNE SILENT 160 with a Centrodyne S600 taximeter, power and ground are provided through the connection cable. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Once a suitable mounting location has been selected, verify that the taximeter cable will reach the printer and that there is ample room to insert the RJ-45 connector.

Step 2: Mount the printer securely to the mounting surface. Avoid excessive tightening of the mounting screws as this may cause the printer case to crack.

Step 3: Attach the RJ-45 connector. Check that the power indicator is lit. Use the taximeter to perform a printer test, such as printing a receipt or statistics.

Step 1: Verify that the data terminal cable will reach the printer and that there is ample room for the RJ-45 connector. If using a direct-power cable, ensure the power and ground wires can reach the power source.

Step 2: Mount the printer securely. Avoid excessive tightening of the mounting screws to prevent cracking the case.

Step 3: If power is not provided by the data terminal, attach the power (red) and ground (black) wires to a 12V power source. Always use a 12V power source capable of supplying a sustained current of at least 2 Amps. The red power wire should be wired through a 5 Amp fuse.

Step 4: Attach the RJ-45 connector and verify that the power indicator is lit.

The CENTRODYNE SILENT 160 features two LEDs at the front of the unit:

Red LED: Indicates that the printer is powered.

Green LED: Lights up when the printer is actively printing.

The printer includes several physical controls:

Paper-feed button: Located on the top-front of the printer.

Release lever: A green lever located on the right-hand side of the printer, visible only when the door is open.

Door release: Located at the front of the unit to allow access to the paper compartment.

The CENTRODYNE SILENT 160 accommodates paper rolls with the following maximum dimensions:

Using larger or thicker paper rolls may damage the printer.

Step 1: Ensure the red LED is lit, indicating power.

Step 2: Lift the door release to open the printer door.

Step 3: Ensure the green double-action lever is in the CLOSED position.

Step 4: Unroll approximately 0.5 to 0.75 inches of paper from the roll. Hold the paper between your thumb and forefinger while grasping the roll in your palm.

Step 5: Insert the paper into the slot below the roller bar. Ensure it is squared to avoid jamming. The auto-load feature will detect the paper and pull it through for approximately 2 seconds.

Step 6: If the paper does not pull through automatically, hold down the paper-feed button or push the paper further into the slot.

Step 7: Drop the roll into the compartment, ensuring no slack between the roll and the mechanism.

Step 8: Place the lever into the ADJUST position by pushing back on the serrated edge until it snaps.

Step 9: Pull the paper until at least 2 inches are coming out of the exit slot, ensuring the strip is straight and not bunched.

Step 10: Close the printer door securely.

Step 1: Ensure the printer door is securely closed during printing. Printing with the door open may damage the print-head.

Step 2: Once printing is complete, ensure there is at least 1/8 inch of white space between the print and the tear bar. Use the paper-feed button if necessary.

Step 3: Grasp the top of the paper and gently pull back so it rests against the tear bar.

Step 4: Apply gentle pressure until the paper begins to tear at the edge.

Step 5: Complete the tear with one quick motion, pulling the paper towards the front of the printer.

You can print a configuration data report using the following procedure:

Step 1: Ensure the printer is powered off by removing the RJ-45 connector.

Step 2: Press and hold the paper-feed button.

Step 3: While holding the button, power up the printer by inserting the RJ-45 connector.

Step 4: A configuration data report should automatically print out.

If a paper jam occurs, do not open the printer case. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the printer door.

Step 2: Tear the paper roll at the entrance of the paper slot and remove the roll.

Step 3: Press and hold the paper-feed button until the printer ejects the jammed paper.

If the jam persists:

Step 4: Place the green release lever into the OPEN position. To do this, first push back on the lever and then lift it up. Failure to fully release the lever before proceeding may damage the mechanism.

Step 5: Insert a piece of soft, semi-rigid cardboard or paper into the feed slot and push it through until it rises above the tear bar to clear debris.

Step 6: Close the printer door. The door will automatically push the release lever back into the proper position.
