How do I set the number of copies and printing order?

1. Open the printer driver setup window.

2. On the Page Setup tab, specify the desired number in the Copies field (1-999).

3. Specify the print order:

– To print from the first page (normal order): Uncheck the Print from Last Page check box.

– To print from the last page: Check the Print from Last Page check box.

– To print all pages of one copy before starting the next (e.g., 1,2,3, 1,2,3): Check the Collate check box.

– To print all copies of one page before printing the next page (e.g., 1,1, 2,2, 3,3): Uncheck the Collate check box.

4. Click OK.

The specified number of copies will be printed in the specified order.

Important: If the application software has similar functions for copies and printing order, it’s generally better to use the printer driver settings. However, if print results are not acceptable, try the application settings. Specifying settings in both may multiply the number of copies or disable the specified printing order.

Note: Setting both Print from Last Page and Collate allows printing collated copies starting from the last page.

How do I perform borderless printing?

Borderless printing prints data without margins by slightly enlarging it past the paper edges.

1. Open the printer driver setup window.

2. On the Page Setup tab, check the Borderless Printing check box.

3. If a confirmation or media type change message appears, click OK and select a media type if prompted.

4. Check the Page Size list. It displays only sizes usable for borderless printing. Select the desired size if needed.

5. If necessary, adjust the Amount of Extension slider. Moving right increases the extension; moving left decreases it. The second position from the right is recommended for most cases.

6. Click OK.

The data will be printed without margins.

Important:

– If a page size not usable for borderless printing is selected, it automatically changes to a valid size.

– Print quality may deteriorate at the top/bottom, or stains may form depending on the media.

– If the image aspect ratio doesn’t match the paper, parts of the image may not be printed. Crop the image using application software if needed.

– Setting the Amount of Extension slider to the rightmost position may cause smudging on the back side.

Expanding the Range of the Document to Print:

Setting a large extension ensures borderless printing but may crop subjects near the edge. Reducing the extension (moving the slider left) prints more of the image but may produce an unexpected margin if set too low. Setting the slider to the leftmost position prints the full image size, which is useful for printing postcard addresses correctly.

Note:

– Using Preview before printing (Media/Quality tab) confirms if margins are eliminated.

– For borderless full-page printing on specific Matte/Fine Art papers, go to Page Setup -> Print Options and change the ‘Cancel the safety margin regulation for paper size’ setting.

1. On the printer’s HOME screen, select Template print, then press OK.

2. Use the ▲/▼ buttons to select the template category you want (e.g., graph paper, staff paper, checklist) and press OK.

3. If a confirmation message appears, check it and press OK.

4. Use the ◄/► buttons to select the specific form within the category and press OK.

5. The print settings screen appears. If necessary, change settings:

– Copies: Use ▲/▼ buttons to set the number of copies, press OK.

– Page size: Use ▲/▼ buttons to select the page size, press OK. (Note: Some forms restrict page size options. If an invalid size is selected, an error appears; check the message and change the setting).

– Type: Plain paper is the only available type for Template print.

6. Load the required size of plain paper in the top feed.

7. Select Start print on the printer’s LCD and press OK.

The printer starts printing the template.

Which paper sources should I use?

The printer has two paper sources:

Top Feed (A):

– Loads paper from 4″ x 6″ (10 x 15 cm) up to A2 size.

– Can load multiple sheets of the same size/type, feeding automatically.

– Use for plain paper, postcards, and most standard photo papers.

Manual Feed Tray (B):

– Loads paper from 8″ x 10″ (20 x 25 cm) up to A2 size.

– Loads only ONE sheet at a time.

– Use for thick paper like art paper.

Important: The correct paper source depends on the page size and media type. Always select the correct page size, media type, and paper source in your print settings to ensure proper print quality.

How do I load paper in the Top Feed?

1. Prepare paper: Align edges. If curled, flatten it by gently bending corners in the opposite direction. (Align neatly to prevent jams. For Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss, load curled sheets one at a time without flattening).

2. Open the paper support (A) and extend the paper support extension (B).

3. Open the paper output tray (C) gently.

4. Open the output tray extension (D), then pull out the paper output support (E).

5. Open the feed slot cover (F).

6. Slide the paper guides (G) open. Load paper stack in the center WITH THE PRINT SIDE FACING YOU.

7. Slide paper guides (G) to align with both sides of the stack. Don’t slide too hard.

Important: Always load paper (except return postcards) in portrait orientation (H).

Note: Do not load paper higher than the load limit mark (J).

8. Close the feed slot cover gently.

9. The paper information registration screen appears on the LCD. Select the Page size and Type of the loaded paper, then select Register.

How do I load paper in the Manual Feed Tray?

Use this tray for single sheets of 8″ x 10″ (20 x 25 cm) or larger paper, especially thick paper like art paper. Plain paper and postcards cannot be fed from this tray.

1. Prepare paper: If curled, flatten it. (For Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss, load curled sheet as is without flattening).

2. Open the manual feed tray (A), extend the paper support (B) and extension (C).

3. Open the paper output tray (D) gently.

4. Open the output tray extension (E), then pull out the paper output support (F).

5. Slide the paper guides (G) open. Load ONLY ONE SHEET in the center WITH THE PRINT SIDE FACING YOU.

6. Slide paper guides (G) to align with both sides of the sheet. Don’t slide too hard.

Important: Always load paper in portrait orientation (H).

7. Check paper is set firmly against the bottom of the tray and guides by slightly jiggling it.

8. The paper information registration screen appears on the LCD. Select the Page size and Type of the loaded paper, then select Register.

Note: To continue printing from the manual feed tray, wait for the current print job to complete, then load the next sheet.

How does the printer register paper information, and why is it important?

When you load paper in the top feed and close the feed slot cover, or load paper in the manual feed tray, a screen appears on the printer’s LCD prompting you to register the paper information (Page size and Type).

Procedure:

1. On the LCD screen (“Select the paper loaded in the…”), check if the displayed Page size and Type match the loaded paper.

2. If they match, select Register.

3. If they don’t match, select Page size or Type, use the buttons to choose the correct setting, press OK, and then select Register.

Importance:

Registering the correct information prevents the printer from misprinting. The printer has a function (enabled by default for printing without a driver, disabled by default for printing with a driver) to check if the paper information registered on the printer matches the settings specified for the print job (either in the driver or from the operation panel/smartphone). If a mismatch is detected and the function is enabled, an error message (e.g., Support Code 2114) is displayed, stopping the print job until the settings are corrected or the message is bypassed. This helps avoid wasting ink and paper on incorrect settings (e.g., printing a photo on plain paper settings).

Important: Ensure the combination of paper settings in the driver and registered on the printer is appropriate.

How should I handle paper?

• Avoid rubbing or scratching paper surfaces.

• Hold paper by the edges; avoid touching the printing surface, as sweat/oil can degrade print quality.

• Do not touch the printed surface until ink is dry. Even when dry, handle carefully as pigment ink can be removed by rubbing or scratching.

• Take out only the required number of sheets just before printing.

• Store unused paper back in its package on a level surface, avoiding heat, humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent curling.

Printing on Photo Paper:

In low temperature/humidity, static electricity can cause ink mist to stain paper margins. To prevent this:

– Recommended: Use photo paper at 68°F (20°C) or higher with 20% humidity or more.

– If temperature is below 68°F (20°C), use photo paper at 40% humidity or more.

What should I do before printing on Art Paper?

Art paper can generate dust. It’s recommended to remove paper dust just before printing using a soft hair brush (like those for office automation equipment; wider is better).

Required Tool: Soft hair brush (e.g., polypropylene, polyethylene, horse/goat hair). Avoid hard material brushes, cloths, washcloths, or sticky/abrasive materials, as they can damage the printing surface.

Dust Removal Procedure:

1. Ensure the brush is clean, dry, and free from dust/dirt.

2. Carefully brush the entire printing surface in one direction, going all the way across the paper (do not start/stop mid-way).

3. To complete, brush the paper in the other direction (e.g., top to bottom).

Important: Avoid touching the printing surface as much as possible.

Where can I find my wireless router’s SSID and Key (Password)?

The location where the SSID (network name) and Key (password or passphrase) are written varies depending on the wireless router manufacturer and model. Check the following places:

Router Label: Often, there is a sticker on the bottom or back of the router itself that lists the default SSID and password.

Router Manual: The instruction manual provided with your wireless router should contain information about default settings and how to access the router’s configuration interface.

Manufacturer’s Website: The support section of your router manufacturer’s website may have documentation or FAQs.

Router Configuration Interface: If you can log in to your router’s web-based setup page (usually via a browser), you can view or change the wireless settings there.

Note:

• Some routers use slightly different SSIDs to distinguish between frequency bands (e.g., “MyNetwork_2.4GHz”, “MyNetwork_5GHz”), intended purpose (e.g., “MyNetwork_Guest”), or encryption type. Ensure you are using the correct SSID for your main network.

• For enterprise networks using IEEE802.1X/EAP, authentication is typically handled by a Radius server, and you would need credentials provided by your network administrator, not a standard password found on the router.

Why is my printer not printing?

If your printer is not printing, check the following potential causes:

Check 1: Printer Power

• Ensure the printer is turned on. Check the power cord connection and press the ON button if necessary.

Check 2: Connection to Computer

USB Cable: If using USB, ensure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try a different USB port on the computer. If using a USB hub, connect directly to the computer. Consider trying a different USB cable.

Network (Wi-Fi/Ethernet): If using a network connection, ensure the printer is correctly set up and connected to your network. Check the printer’s network status (e.g., Wi-Fi icon on LCD). You can use the Wi-Fi Connection Assistant (Windows/macOS) to diagnose issues. Refer to “Cannot Find Printer on Network”.

Check 3: Paper Settings Mismatch

• Verify that the paper size and type settings selected in the printer driver (or the application you are printing from) match the information registered for the paper loaded in the top feed or manual feed tray. An error message usually appears on the printer’s operation panel if there’s a mismatch. Follow the instructions on the panel.

Check 4: Print Queue

• If printing from a computer, check the print queue for any stuck or paused print jobs. Delete any unnecessary or failed print jobs (refer to “Deleting the Undesired Print Job” for Windows/macOS).

Check 5: Feed Slot Cover

• Ensure the feed slot cover (if applicable to your model) is closed. If open, close it slowly and press the OK button on the printer.

Check 6: Manual Feed Tray Position

• If using the manual feed tray, ensure it is in the paper feed position, not the paper jam clearing position. Return it to the feed position and press OK.

Check 7: Tank Cover

• Ensure the ink tank cover is closed.

Check 8: Media Type and Paper Size in Driver

• Double-check that the media type and paper size selected in the printer driver settings are appropriate for the loaded paper. Certain specialty papers (like Matte or Fine Art) require specific “Margin 25” paper size settings due to wide margins needed for printing. If you select these media types, ensure you also select a compatible paper size (e.g., A4 (Margin 25), Letter (Margin 25)). You might be able to override the safety margin in print options, but this could affect print quality.

Check 9: Correct Printer Driver Selected

• Make sure you have selected the correct printer driver for your printer model in the application’s print dialog box. Using a driver for a different printer will not work correctly.

• Ensure your printer is set as the default printer if needed (refer to “Default Printer Keeps Changing (Windows)”).

Check 10: Large Data File (Windows)

• Printing very large files (e.g., high-resolution photos) can take a long time to process before printing starts. If it takes excessively long, try enabling the “Prevention of Print Data Loss” option in the printer driver’s Print Options (note: this may slightly reduce print quality; turn it off after printing).

Check 11: Restart Computer

• If printing from a computer, try restarting the computer (use “Restart”, not “Shut down” for Windows) and then attempt printing again.

Why does the printing stop?

Printing might stop for several reasons:

Check 1: Out of Paper

• Make sure paper is loaded in the selected paper source. Load paper if necessary.

Check 2: Processing Large Data

• Documents with many large photographs or complex illustrations require significant processing time by both the computer and the printer. It might appear that printing has stopped, but the printer is likely still processing the data. Wait for the process to complete.

• Printing documents requiring a lot of ink (like photos) on successive sheets of plain paper might cause the printer to pause temporarily between pages, possibly to allow ink to dry or manage resources. Wait for printing to resume.

Check 3: Continuous Printing / Overheating

• If the printer has been printing continuously for a long period, the print head or internal components might start to overheat. As a safety measure, the printer may pause printing (often at a line break) for a period to cool down and then automatically resume.

• In this case, simply wait without doing anything. If printing does not resume after a reasonable time, turn the printer off, let it rest for a while, turn it back on, and check if printing is possible.

Caution: The print head and the area around it can become extremely hot during operation. Never touch the print head or nearby internal components.

Why does my default printer keep changing? (Windows)

1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the top cover.

3. Important: Do not touch the clear film (A) or the white belt (B) inside the printer, as scratching or soiling them can damage the printer.

4. Check if paper is under the print head holder. If it is, gently slide the print head holder to the far right or left (whichever provides better access) by holding the top of the holder.

5. Hold the jammed paper firmly with both hands.

6. Slowly pull the paper out at an angle of about 45 degrees to prevent tearing.

7. Carefully check for and remove any torn pieces of paper remaining inside the printer, including under the print head holder and in the empty spaces on the left and right sides (C).

8. Once all paper fragments are removed, close the top cover.

9. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer. All print jobs in the queue will have been canceled, so you will need to reprint.

After Removing Jam:

• Ensure you reload the correct type of paper and load it properly.

• If the paper jam message reappears after clearing the jam and pressing OK, check carefully inside the printer again for any remaining small pieces of paper.

If you cannot resolve the paper jam using these steps, contact your Canon dealer or service center for assistance.

Why doesn’t the printer pick up or feed paper, or why does it show a ‘No Paper’ error?

If the printer isn’t picking up paper, feeding it correctly, or displays a “No Paper” error even when paper is loaded, check these points:

Check 1: Paper Loaded Correctly

• Ensure paper is loaded in the correct tray (Top Feed or Manual Feed Tray) according to the print settings.

• Refer to “Loading Paper in the Top Feed” or “Loading Paper in the Manual Feed Tray”.

Check 2: Paper Loading Practices

Multiple Sheets: When loading 2 or more sheets (in the top feed), fan the edges of the stack before loading. Align the edges neatly.

Load Limit: Do not exceed the paper load limit for the tray. Depending on paper type and environmental conditions (temperature/humidity), you may need to load less than the maximum (e.g., less than half the limit).

Orientation: Always load paper in portrait orientation, regardless of how the document will be printed.

Manual Feed Tray: Load only one sheet at a time. Wait for the current sheet to finish printing before setting the next one for continuous printing.

Check 3: Paper Condition

• Is the paper too thick, too thin, or significantly curled? Ensure the media type is supported (refer to “Media Types You Can Use”). If curled, try flattening it before loading.

Check 4: Postcards

• Curled postcards might not feed properly. Load Japanese postcards with the postcode column facing downward.

Check 5: Paper Source Setting

• Verify that the paper source selected in the printer driver (Windows/macOS) or application matches the tray where you loaded the paper. (Refer to “Switching the Paper Source to Match the Purpose”).

Check 6: Paper Weight

• Confirm the paper weight is suitable for use with this printer (refer to “Media Types You Can Use”).

Check 7: Foreign Objects

• Carefully inspect the top feed and manual feed tray for any foreign objects (e.g., paper clips, small debris). If found, turn off the printer, unplug it, and remove the object. Also ensure the feed slot cover (if applicable) is closed.

Check 8: Clean Paper Feed Rollers

• Dirty feed rollers can cause paper pick-up issues. Clean the paper feed rollers following the procedure in “Cleaning Paper Feed Rollers”. (Note: Cleaning abrades the rollers, so perform this only when necessary).

If these checks do not resolve the problem, contact your Canon dealer or service center.

Why doesn’t paper feed from the source specified in the Printer Driver? (Windows)

This usually happens when the paper source setting within the application software you are printing from overrides the setting specified in the Printer Driver.

To resolve this:

1. Check Application Settings: Look for a paper source or tray selection setting within the print dialog or page setup options of the application software you are using. Change this setting to match the paper source you selected in the Printer Driver.

OR

2. Override Application Setting in Driver:

• Open the Printer Driver properties.

• Go to the “Page Setup” tab.

• Click the “Print Options” button.

• In the Print Options dialog, find and select the checkbox for “Disable the paper source setting of the application software”.

• Click OK.

When the settings are inconsistent, the application software’s setting typically takes precedence unless you explicitly disable it in the driver as described in step 2. For more details, refer to the “Page Setup Tab Description” in the driver help.

What should I do if paper isn’t jammed but doesn’t feed or output normally?

If there is no paper jam indicated (no support code displayed), but paper is not feeding into the printer or not coming out correctly, check the following:

Check 1: Output Slot Blockage

• Look at the paper output slot. Is there anything blocking it, like already printed pages, an object, or is the output tray not opened properly?

Check 2: Foreign Objects in Feed Trays

• Carefully check the top feed tray and the manual feed tray (if applicable) for any foreign objects (e.g., paper clips, staples, dust, small items). If you find anything, turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and remove the object.

• Ensure the feed slot cover (if your model has one) is closed.

Check 3: Paper Curl

• Is the paper excessively curled? Try to flatten the paper before loading it.

Check 4: Paper Loading Orientation

• Ensure the paper is loaded in the correct orientation (Portrait – A). Loading paper in landscape orientation (B) can cause feeding problems or jams. Refer to the paper loading instructions for your printer.

What paper types can be used in this printer?

For detailed information about the specific types, sizes, and weights of paper that are compatible with this printer, please refer to the section titled “Media Types You Can Use” in the printer’s documentation or online manual.

What should I do if ink does not come out?

If ink is not coming out during printing (e.g., blank pages, missing colors), perform these checks:

Check 1: Check Ink Levels

• Verify the remaining ink levels for all colors. Refill any tanks that are low or empty. Refer to “Checking Ink Level”.

Check 2: Check for Clogged Nozzles

• The print head nozzles might be clogged. Print a nozzle check pattern to assess the nozzle status. If the pattern shows gaps or missing lines, perform print head cleaning. Refer to “Checking for Nozzle Clogging”.

Check 3: Correct Printer Driver Selected

• Ensure that you have selected the correct printer driver for your printer model in the application’s print dialog. Try printing again using the correct driver.

If none of the above checks resolve the issue, there might be a malfunction with the printer. Contact your Canon dealer or service center for assistance.

Why does the printer seem to consume a lot of ink?

Several factors can contribute to ink consumption:

Check 1: Printing Full-Color Materials

• Printing documents with large areas of solid color, such as photos or graphics-heavy pages, naturally uses a significant amount of ink. This is normal operation and does not indicate a problem.

Check 2: Frequent System Cleaning

• The “System Cleaning” maintenance function uses a considerable amount of ink to flush the print head system. While necessary in certain situations, performing it frequently will consume ink rapidly. It is generally recommended only when necessary, such as after transporting the printer, after a long period of non-use, or if there are persistent print head issues not resolved by regular cleaning.

Check 3: Initial Installation

• When using the printer for the very first time, or after transporting it, the printer performs an initial setup process where ink from the tanks is used to fill the ink delivery system and print head. This initial fill consumes more ink than subsequent printing, causing the remaining ink level to drop noticeably. This is a normal part of the setup and does not indicate excessive consumption during regular use.

Check 4: Print Head Nozzle Clogging

• If print head nozzles are partially clogged, the printer might try to compensate, potentially using more ink, or you might perform more cleaning cycles trying to fix print quality issues, which consumes ink. Check the nozzle status by printing a nozzle check pattern and perform cleaning if needed. Refer to “Checking for Nozzle Clogging”.

Refer to Reset settings.

Is ink only used for printing?

No, ink is used for various purposes other than printing.

When using the printer for the first time after installing bundled ink tanks, ink is consumed to fill the Print Head nozzles.

Ink is sometimes used to maintain optimal printing quality through automatic cleaning.

The cleaning function helps suck out air bubbles or ink from the nozzle to prevent print quality degradation or clogging. This consumes a small amount of ink, potentially from all colors.

System cleaning is performed automatically at regular intervals to prevent issues like unwanted lines or ink ejection stopping. This also consumes ink.

Some ink will remain in the ink tank when it needs replacement, as it’s needed for system cleaning.

Black-and-white printing may consume color ink depending on paper type or driver settings.

CO (Chroma Optimizer) ink is used on glossy paper and during automated maintenance, potentially consuming faster than other inks.

Important Notes on Ink Consumption:

The number of sheets printable with the first (bundled) ink tanks is fewer than subsequent tanks due to initial filling.

Printing costs in brochures/websites are based on subsequent ink tanks, not the first ones.

Used ink from cleaning is ejected into the maintenance cartridge, which requires replacement when full.

Initial setup consumes ink, filling the maintenance cartridge by approximately 50%, leading to an earlier first replacement compared to subsequent ones.

The printer uses pigment ink; due to its nature, printed surfaces may be susceptible to removal by rubbing or scratching.
