To charge the Battery Pack LP-E12:

1. Remove the protective cover from the battery.

2. Attach the battery securely to the charger.

3. Recharge the battery. For the LC-E12 charger, flip out the prongs and insert them into a power outlet. For the LC-E12E, connect the power cord to the charger and insert the plug into a power outlet.

4. Recharging starts automatically, and the charge lamp lights up in orange.

5. When the battery is fully recharged, the full-charge lamp will light up in green.

It takes approximately 2 hours to fully recharge a completely exhausted battery at room temperature.

Installing the Battery and Card:

1. Slide the lever on the bottom of the camera to open the cover.

2. Insert the battery with the contacts end first until it locks in place.

3. Insert the SD card with the label side facing toward the back of the camera until it clicks in place. Ensure the card’s write-protect switch is set upward.

4. Close the cover until it snaps shut.

Removing the Battery and Card:

1. Set the power switch to OFF.

2. Make sure the access lamp is off, then open the cover.

3. To remove the battery, press the battery lock lever; the battery will spring out.

4. To remove the card, gently push it in, then let go to eject it. Pull the card straight out.

5. Close the cover.

1. Remove the rear lens cap and the body cap by turning them.

2. Align the lens’s red or white index with the camera’s index matching the same color.

3. Turn the lens as shown by the arrow on the lens barrel until it clicks in place.

4. Set the lens focus mode switch to AF (autofocus).

5. Remove the front lens cap.

1. Press the MENU button to display the menu screen.

2. Under the Setup tab 2 (wrench icon with 2 dots), select [Date/Time/Zone] and press SET.

3. Set the time zone first by selecting the time zone box and pressing SET. Use the arrow keys to select your zone and press SET.

4. Set the date and time by selecting the number, pressing SET, adjusting the value, and pressing SET again.

5. Set daylight saving time if necessary.

6. Select [OK] and press SET to finalize the setting.

Turn the dioptric adjustment knob located near the viewfinder eyepiece left or right so that the AF points (nine boxes) in the viewfinder look sharp.

1. Press the Q button to display the Quick Control screen.

2. Press the cross keys to select a function. The selected function and Feature guide will appear.

3. Turn the Main Dial to change the setting.

4. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

1. Press the MENU button.

2. Under the Setup tab 1 (wrench icon with 1 dot), select [Format card] and press SET.

3. Select [OK] and press SET.

Note: Formatting erases all data, including protected images.

1. Set the Mode Dial to Scene Intelligent Auto (A+ icon).

2. Aim any AF point over the subject.

3. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. The dot inside the AF point achieving focus will flash red and the focus confirmation light will light up.

4. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

To disable the flash, set the Mode Dial to the Flash Off icon. This is suitable for places where flash photography is prohibited or to capture the natural ambience of a scene.

1. Set the Mode Dial to CA (Creative Auto).

2. Press the Q button to open the Quick Control screen.

3. Use the cross keys to select a function (such as Extra Effect Shot, Ambience-based shots, Background blur, Drive mode, or Flash firing).

4. Press SET to set the function.

5. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

1. Set the Mode Dial to SCN.

2. Press the Q button to bring up the Quick Control screen.

3. Use the cross keys or the Main Dial to select a shooting mode (Kids, Food, Candlelight, Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, or HDR Backlight Control).

4. Take the picture.

1. Press the Live View shooting button (camera icon) to display the Live View image on the LCD monitor.

2. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. When focus is achieved, the AF point will turn green.

3. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

4. Press the Live View shooting button again to exit Live View shooting.

1. During Live View shooting, tap the Touch Shutter icon on the screen’s bottom left to enable it (the icon will change to indicate it is On).

2. Tap the face or subject on the screen you wish to focus on.

3. The camera will focus on the tapped point and automatically take the picture when focus is achieved.

1. Set the power switch to the movie icon position.

2. Set the Mode Dial to any mode except Manual exposure for autoexposure shooting.

3. Press the shutter button halfway to focus.

4. Press the Live View/Movie shooting button to start recording. A red circle mark will appear on the screen.

5. Press the Live View/Movie shooting button again to stop recording.

The total recording time and file size per minute depend on the recording size selected:

Note: The maximum recording time of one movie clip is 29 min. 59 sec. Recording also stops if the file size reaches 4 GB, though a new file is automatically created if you continue shooting.

1. Press the Playback button.

2. To browse images, press the left or right cross keys.

3. To change the information display format, press the INFO button.

4. To exit playback, press the Playback button again.

1. During playback, press the Index/Reduce button to switch to the index display (showing 4, 9, 36, or 100 images).

2. Use the cross keys or Main Dial to move the orange frame to select an image.

3. Press SET to display the selected image in full view.

Browsing Images: Swipe with one finger to the left or right to move to the next or previous image.

Jump Display: Swipe with two fingers to jump through images based on the set method.

Magnifying Images: Spread two fingers apart on the screen to magnify. Pinch two fingers together to reduce the image or switch to index display.

1. Insert the “CAMERA INSTRUCTION MANUAL” CD-ROM into your computer.

2. Double-click the CD-ROM icon.

3. Double-click the START file.

4. Click your language.

5. Click the instruction manual you want to read to open the PDF.
