When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed. For safety reasons, the appliance can only be operated cordless. When disconnected, the hand-held part of this appliance may be used in a bath or shower.

5. This appliance is provided with a special cord set with integrated Safety Extra Low Voltage power supply. Do not exchange or manipulate any part of it.

6. Unplug this appliance before cleaning.

7. Do not use an extension cord with this appliance.

10. Caution: The battery used in this device may present a fire or chemical burn hazard if mistreated. Do not disassemble, heat above 100 °C (212 °F) or incinerate.

11. To recharge the battery, only use the detachable power supply provided with this appliance. If the appliance is marked 492-XXXX, only use Braun power supplies coded 492-XXXX.

For hygienic reasons, do not share this appliance with other people. When switched on, the appliance must never come in contact with the hair on your head, eyelashes, ribbons, etc. to prevent any danger of injury as well as to prevent blockage or damage to the appliance.

To charge your BRAUN SILK-EPIL 5 5391, use the special cord set (6) to connect the appliance to an electrical outlet and charge it for 1 hour.

Once fully charged, use the appliance cordless. The operation time is 30 minutes when used within 24 hours after charging. Recharge it when the yellow charging light comes on or when the motor has stopped completely. For best performance, always use a fully charged appliance.

The best environmental temperature for charging, using, and storing the appliance is between 59 °F and 95 °F. If the temperature is beyond this range, the charging time might be longer, and the cordless operation time might be reduced.

The charging light (3a) indicates the battery status of your BRAUN SILK-EPIL 5 5391:

Use the on/off button (4) to switch on the appliance.

Speed 1: Push one time for a gentle epilation.

Speed 2: Push a second time for a faster and more efficient epilation.

Off: Push one more time to turn the appliance off.

The SensoSmart™ light (3b) will shine red when you apply too much pressure.

To remove the epilation head, press the release button (5).

To activate the travel lock, push and hold the on/off switch for at least 3 seconds. A beep will confirm that the switch is locked.

To unlock, push and hold the switch for 3 to 5 seconds. You can also unlock the switch by connecting the appliance to the mains (power outlet).

For first-time users: If you have not used an epilator before, it may take a short time for your skin to adapt. The initial discomfort will decrease with repeated use. It is recommended to epilate once a week during the first month.

Timing: It is advisable to epilate in the evening so that any possible reddening can disappear overnight. Apply a moisturizing cream after epilating to relax the skin.

Hair Length: Epilation is easiest when hair is at the optimum length of 2 to 5 mm (0.02 – 0.2 in). If hairs are longer, it’s recommended to shave first and then epilate the shorter, re-growing hairs after 3 to 5 days.

Preventing ingrown hairs: Fine, re-growing hairs might not grow up to the skin surface. Regular use of massage sponges or exfoliation peelings helps prevent in-grown hair by removing the upper skin layer, allowing fine hairs to get through to the skin surface.

Yes, the BRAUN SILK-EPIL 5 5391 is designed for both dry and wet use.

Dry usage: When using the appliance on dry skin, your skin must be free from grease or cream.

Wet usage: The appliance can be used on wet skin, even under running water. Ensure the skin is very moist. For optimum gliding conditions, you may use a shower gel while epilating.

Always stretch your skin while epilating. Hold the appliance at a right angle (90°) against your skin and guide it slowly and without pressure against the hair growth in the direction of the switch. The skin contact cap (1) provides close skin contact and adapts to all body areas. Whenever the SensoSmart™ light shines red, this is a reminder not to press too hard. The massage cap (7) can be used instead of the skin contact cap (1) to stimulate the skin and make the process more comfortable.

Leg epilation: Epilate your legs in an upward direction. When epilating behind the knee, keep the leg stretched out straight.

Underarm and bikini line epilation: These areas are particularly sensitive, so it is recommended to start with speed I. The pain sensation will diminish with repeated usage. Before epilating, thoroughly clean the area to remove residue like deodorant. For underarms, keep your arm raised up and guide the appliance in different directions to catch all hairs.

Regularly cleaning the epilation head ensures good hygienic conditions and reliable performance. Remove the cap (1 or 7) before cleaning.

Cleaning with the brush:

Thoroughly clean the tweezers element using the cleaning brush.

Cleaning under running water:

After each wet usage (especially with gel), clean the epilation head under running water. During cleaning, turn on the epilator for a few seconds. Then remove the epilation head and let it dry. Re-attach the epilation head after it has dried completely.

All methods of hair removal from the root can lead to in-grown hairs and irritation (e.g. itching, discomfort or reddening of the skin), depending on the condition of the skin and hair. This is a normal reaction and should quickly disappear, but may be stronger when you are removing hair from the root for the first few times or if you have sensitive skin. If after 36 hours the skin still shows irritation, we recommend that you contact your physician.

In general, the skin reaction and the sensation of pain tend to diminish considerably with repeated use of Silk-épil. In some cases, inflammation of the skin could occur when bacteria penetrate the skin. Thorough cleaning of the epilation head before each use will minimize the risk of infection.

In the following cases, this appliance should only be used after prior consultation with a physician: eczema, wounds, inflamed skin reactions such as folliculitis, varicose veins, around moles, reduced immunity of the skin (e.g. diabetes mellitus), during pregnancy, Raynaud’s disease, haemophilia, immune deficiency or Candida.

The shaver head (8) is designed for a fast and close shave of legs, underarms and bikini line, contour trimming, and cutting hair to 5 mm length. Use the shaver head only on dry skin and with speed II.

a. Shaving: Select the «shave» setting (icon with straight lines).

b. Contour trimming: Select the «trim» setting (icon with wavy lines).

c. Cutting hair to 5 mm length: Select the «trim» setting and put on the trimmer cap (I).

d. Cleaning: Tap the shaver foil (II) on a flat surface. Do not clean it with the brush as this may damage the foil.

e. Lubrication: The shaving parts need to be lubricated regularly every 3 months.

f. Replacement: Replace the foil frame (II) and cutter block (III) when you notice a reduced shaving performance. Do not shave with a damaged foil.

This product contains rechargeable batteries and recyclable electronic waste. To protect the environment, do not dispose of it in household waste. Take it to appropriate local collection points.

To remove the battery before disposal, you must disassemble the appliance. Caution: Disassembling the appliance will destroy it and invalidate the warranty.

1. Before disposing of the appliance, disassemble the housing as shown in the manual’s diagrams.

2. Remove the rechargeable battery.

3. Recycle or dispose of the battery and appliance properly, according to local guidelines.
