Please observe the following safety information when using your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S:

Power Supply: Your appliance is provided with a special cord set, which has an integrated Safety Extra Low Voltage power supply. Do not exchange or tamper with any part of it, otherwise there is a risk of an electric shock. Only use the special cord set provided with your appliance. If the appliance is marked with 492, you can use it with any Braun power supply coded 492-XXXX.

Cleaning: The shaver is suitable for cleaning under running tap water. Detach the shaver from the power supply before cleaning it in water.

Wet & Dry Use: The BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S is suitable for cleaning under running water and for use in a bath or shower. For safety reasons, it can only be operated cordless.

Foam and Gel: The BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S can be used with foam or gel.

General Use: Do not shave with a damaged foil or cord. This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the safe use of the appliance. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 years and supervised.

Oil Bottle (if included): Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow. Do not apply to eyes. Dispose of properly when empty.

Before using your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S for the first time, remove any protection foil from the shaver display. Connect the shaver to an electrical outlet by snapping the special cord set (11) into the power socket (10).

When charging for the first time, charge it continuously for 1 hour. A full charge provides up to 50 minutes of cordless shaving time. This may vary according to your beard growth and environmental temperature.

For charging: The recommended ambient temperature is 5 °C to 35 °C. The battery may not charge properly or at all under extreme low or high temperatures.

For shaving: The recommended ambient temperature is 15 °C to 35 °C.

Do not expose the appliance to temperatures higher than 50 °C for extended periods of time. When the shaver is connected to an electrical outlet, it may take some minutes until the display illuminates.

The shaver display (5) on your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S shows the following statuses:

Charge Status:

• During charging, the respective battery segment will blink.

• When fully charged, all battery segments will light up for a few seconds, then the display turns off.

Low Charge:

• The low-charge light flashes red when the battery is running low. You should be able to finish your shave. When switching off the shaver, a beep sound will remind you of the low charge status.

Travel Lock:

• The lock symbol lights up when the shaver has been locked to avoid unintended starting of the motor (e.g., for storing in a suitcase).

Press the on/off switch (4) to operate the shaver. For a perfect dry shave with your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S, follow these tips:

1. Always shave before washing your face.

2. At all times, hold the shaver at the right angle (90°) to your skin.

3. Stretch your skin and shave against the direction of your beard growth.

The MultiHeadLock switch (head lock) is used to shave hard-to-reach areas, such as under the nose. To use it, slide the MultiHeadLock switch (3) down to lock the shaver head. The shaver head can be locked in five positions. To change position, move the shaver head with your thumb and forefinger back or forth. It will automatically click into the next position.

To trim sideburns, moustache, or beard, press the release button (8) and slide the long hair trimmer (6) upwards.

No, you cannot use the BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S w&d model while it is connected to a power cord. For safety reasons, this appliance can only be operated cordless.

The travel lock prevents the shaver from starting unintentionally, for example, while in a suitcase.

Activation: Press the on/off switch (4) for 3 seconds. A beep sound and the lock symbol on the display will confirm that the shaver is locked. The display will then turn off.

Deactivation: Press the on/off switch for 3 seconds. The shaver will unlock.

You can clean your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S using running water or a brush.

Cleaning under running water:

1. Switch on the shaver (cordless) and rinse the shaver head under hot running water until all residues have been removed. You may use liquid soap without abrasive substances. Rinse off all foam and let the shaver run for a few more seconds.

2. Next, switch off the shaver, press the release buttons (2) to remove the Foil & Cutter cassette (1), and let it dry completely.

3. If you regularly clean the shaver under water, apply a drop of light machine oil on top of the Foil & Cutter cassette once a week.

Note: The BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S shaver should be cleaned after each foam usage.

Cleaning with a brush:

1. Switch off the shaver. Remove the Foil & Cutter cassette (1) and tap it out on a flat surface.

2. Using the brush, clean the inner area of the pivoting head. Do not clean the cassette with the brush, as this may damage it.

To maintain your shaver’s maximum performance, it is recommended to change your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S’s Foil & Cutter cassette every 18 months. The correct replacement part is 90S/90B.

The product contains batteries and/or recyclable electric waste. For environmental protection, do not dispose of it in household waste. For recycling, take it to electric waste collection points provided in your country.

If your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S does not start, it could be for one of two reasons:

1. The travel lock is activated. To fix this, press the on/off switch for 3 seconds to unlock the shaver.

2. As a wet & dry model, the BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S can only be operated cordless for safety. If it is plugged in, unplug the shaver.

If your BRAUN SERIES 9 9040S is not charging completely and the light keeps blinking, the ambient temperature is likely outside of the valid range. The recommended ambient temperature for charging is 5 °C to 35 °C.

An unpleasant smell can occur if the shaver head is only cleaned with water. To resolve this, when cleaning the shaver head with water, use hot water and from time to time some liquid soap (without abrasive substances). Always remove the Foil & Cutter cassette to let it dry completely after washing.

A significant drop in battery performance can be due to two reasons:

1. The shaver head is regularly cleaned with water but not lubricated. To maintain performance, apply a drop of light machine oil on top of the foil once a week for lubrication.

2. The foil and cutter are worn, which requires more power for each shave. You should replace the Foil & Cutter cassette.

If you notice a drop in shaving performance, it could be because the shaving system is clogged or the foil and cutter are worn.

To clean a clogged system: Soak the Foil & Cutter cassette in hot water with a drop of dish liquid. Afterwards, rinse it properly and tap it out. Once it is dry, apply a drop of light machine oil on the foil.

If parts are worn: Replace the Foil & Cutter cassette.

If the shaver turns off despite having a full battery, it indicates that the foil and cutter are worn. Worn parts require more power than the motor can deliver, causing the appliance to turn off. To resolve this, replace the Foil & Cutter cassette. You should also regularly oil the shaving system, especially when cleaning it with water only.
