The BOSCH ADVANCEDIMPACT DRIVE 18 is intended for driving in and loosening screws and bolts, as well as for tightening and loosening nuts within the respective range of dimension.

To ensure safe operation of your BOSCH ADVANCEDIMPACT DRIVE 18, please follow these safety instructions:

General Power Tool Safety:

• Keep your work area clean and well lit.

• Do not operate in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.

• Keep children and bystanders away while operating the tool.

• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces like pipes and radiators.

• Do not expose the power tool to rain or wet conditions.

• Use personal protective equipment, including eye protection.

• Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source or battery pack.

• Maintain proper footing and balance at all times.

• Do not force the power tool; use the correct tool for your application.

Screwdriver Safety:

• Hold the power tool by its insulated gripping surfaces, especially when performing an operation where the fastener may contact hidden wiring.

• Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hidden supply lines or contact the local utility company for assistance.

• Hold the power tool securely. Be prepared for temporarily high torque reactions when tightening and loosening screws.

• Secure the workpiece with clamping devices or in a vice.

• Always wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before placing it down.

Battery Tool Safety:

• Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer.

• In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Ensure the area is well-ventilated and seek medical attention if you experience adverse effects.

• Do not open the battery to avoid short-circuiting.

• Protect the battery against heat, e.g., against continuous intense sunlight, fire, dirt, water, and moisture.

Use only the chargers listed in the technical data section of the manual. These chargers are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your BOSCH ADVANCEDIMPACT DRIVE 18. Note that lithium-ion batteries are supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, completely charge the battery before using your tool for the first time.

Inserting the Battery: Push the charged battery into the battery holder until it clicks into place.

Removing the Battery: To remove the battery, press the battery release button and pull the battery out. Do not use force to do this.

To ensure the best performance and longevity of your battery:

• Protect the battery from moisture and water.

• Only store the battery within a temperature range of −20 to 50°C. For example, do not leave the battery in your car during the summer.

• A significantly reduced operating time after charging indicates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced. Follow the instructions for correct disposal.

Always remove the battery from the power tool before carrying out any work, such as changing the tool bit.

Inserting:

1. Pull the locking sleeve (2) forward.

2. Guide the application tool (screwdriver bit) into the tool holder (1) up to the stop.

3. Release the locking sleeve (2) to lock the application tool in place.

Use only screwdriver bits with a ball catch (8) (DIN 3126-E6.3). Other screwdriver bits (9) can be inserted using a universal bit holder with a ball catch (10).

Removing:

Pull the locking sleeve (2) forward and remove the application tool.

The tool holder (with the application tool) is driven by an electric motor via a gear and impact mechanism. The working procedure is divided into two phases: screwing in and tightening (impact mechanism in action).

The impact mechanism is activated as soon as the screwed connection runs tight and load is therefore put on the motor. The impact mechanism then converts the power of the motor into steady rotary impacts. When loosening screws or nuts, the process is reversed.

Set the rotational direction:

The rotational direction switch (5) is used to change the rotational direction of the power tool. This is not possible while the on/off switch (6) is being pressed.

• Right rotation: To drive in screws and tighten nuts, press the rotational direction switch (5) through to the left stop.

• Left Rotation: To loosen and unscrew screws and nuts, press the rotational direction switch (5) through to the right stop.

Switching on/off:

• To start the power tool, press and hold the on/off switch (6).

• To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (6).

Adjusting the speed:

You can adjust the speed of the power tool when it is on by pressing in the on/off switch (6) to varying extents. A light pressure results in a low rotational speed, while increased pressure causes an increase in speed.

Under normal use conditions, the BOSCH ADVANCEDIMPACT DRIVE 18 cannot be overloaded. If the tool is overloaded or the permitted battery temperature is exceeded, the electronics will switch the tool off until the temperature returns to within the optimum operating temperature range.

Only apply the power tool to the screw/nut when the tool is switched off, as rotating tool inserts can slip off. The torque depends on the impact duration. The maximum achieved torque results from the sum of all individual torques achieved through impact. Maximum torque is achieved after an impact duration of 6–10 seconds. After this duration, the tightening torque increases only minimally.

The impact duration should be determined for each required tightening torque. The actually achieved tightening torque should always be checked with a torque wrench.

The achieved torque in a screw application depends on several factors, including the strength of the screws/nuts, the type of backing (washer, seal), material properties, and lubrication. Different application cases are as follows:

• A hard seat is a metal-to-metal screw application using washers. Maximum torque is reached after a relatively short impact duration. Unnecessarily long impact duration will only cause damage to the machine.

• A spring-loaded seat is also a metal-to-metal application but uses spring washers, disc springs, studs, or screws/nuts with conical seats. It can also refer to applications where extensions are used.

• A soft seat is a screw application of metal on wood or one that uses lead or fibre washers as backing.

For a spring-loaded or soft seat, the maximum tightening torque is lower than for a hard seat, and a clearly longer impact duration is required.

The following table provides guide values for maximum screw tightening torques in Nm, calculated from the tensional cross-section with 90% utilization of the yield point (with a friction coefficient of µtotal = 0.12). As a control measure, always check the tightening torque with a torque wrench.

Before screwing larger, longer screws into hard materials, it is advisable to pre-drill a pilot hole with the core diameter of the thread to approximately 2/3 of the screw length.

To ensure safe and efficient operation, follow these maintenance and cleaning guidelines:

• Clean the air vents on your power tool regularly. The motor’s fan will draw dust inside the housing, and an excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.

• Before carrying out any work on the power tool (e.g., maintenance, tool change), always remove the battery. This prevents injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

• To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and its ventilation slots clean.
