Remove all packing material, any stickers, and the plastic band around the power plug before starting to use the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Wash removable parts as instructed in CARE AND CLEANING of the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Pour fresh cold water up to the 12-cup level mark into the water reservoir of the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Place a basket-style paper filter into the removable filter basket. Place the basket into the filter basket holder. Make sure the word “Back” is towards the back of the unit when installing the filter basket in the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Filtered water is recommended for use in the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Plug the cord into the standard electrical outlet of the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker and brew water through the appliance without adding coffee grounds. Discard the water from the carafe and paper filter from the filter basket. Turn off the appliance, unplug, and allow to cool down.

Step 1. Plug the appliance into a standard electrical outlet.

Step 2. The digital clock display flashes “12:00”.

Step 3. To change the time: Press the HOUR button until the correct time appears on the display. When the time passes noon the light next to the PM illuminates to let you know you are in PM time. If the PM light is not illuminated, it is AM time.

Step 4. Press the MIN button to select the minutes. The “:” will remain blinking. Pressing and holding the HOUR or MIN button will activate a rapid time advance on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

If the appliance is unplugged or power is interrupted even momentarily, the time on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker may need to be reset.

You may choose between regular or strongly flavored coffee to suit your personal taste. If you press the STRONG button, the light goes on and the brewing process slows to extract the maximum flavor from the coffee grounds. Regular strength is indicated by the STRONG light being off on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 1. Press the KEEP WARM button until your preference is shown. The button cycles through 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes or OFF on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 2. The Coffee Maker will turn off once the keep warm timer has expired.

The default setting for how long the heated carafe plate keeps coffee warm after brewing is 120 minutes.

Step 1. Open the cover of the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 2. Fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of water. The 12 Cup line represents a full carafe of coffee. Do not fill the reservoir past this 12 Cup (maximum) line.

Note: Use spring water or filtered water. Distilled water lacks the minerals necessary to bind to elements of coffee.

Step 3. Place an 8 to 12 cup basket-style paper filter into the removable filter basket.

Step 4. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. Close the cover.

Step 5. Make sure the carafe lid is properly attached to the empty carafe. Close the lid.

Note: Coffee may overflow if the carafe lid is not properly placed.

Step 6. Place the empty carafe on the carafe plate.

Step 7. If not already plugged in, plug the power cord into an outlet.

Step 8. If regular brew strength is desired, your coffeemaker is set to brew coffee.

Step 9. If strong coffee is desired, press the STRONG button once to select the strong brew. The light next to the STRONG button illuminates on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 10. Press the Start/Power button, and brewing begins. The button illuminates.

Step 11. Once coffee grounds have cooled, carefully open the cover and discard used grounds. Close the cover.

Step 12. The coffeemaker will keep the brewed coffee hot for how long is selected with the Keep Warm feature. Then the coffeemaker automatically turns off on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

To turn off the coffeemaker at any time, press the Start/Power button. The Start/Power button light goes off. Unplug the appliance when not in use.

Remove the carafe and brewing will pause on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker. The carafe must be placed back on the carafe plate in 30 seconds to prevent overflow. Brewing will begin again.

Step 1. Make sure the clock has been set to the correct time of day on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 2. Follow steps 1 through 9 under BREWING COFFEE.

Step 3. Press the BREW LATER button.

Step 4. The digital clock will flash “12:00”.

Note: If the coffeemaker has not been unplugged, the last programmed brewing time will appear on the digital display.

Step 5. To change the time: press the HOUR button until the desired correct time appears on the display. Press the MIN button to select the minutes.

Step 6. Delayed brewing is activated after 3 seconds with no button press. The light in the BREW LATER button will illuminate.

Step 7. To check the preset auto time, press the BREW LATER button. The delayed brewing time will flash for three seconds. Then the clock time will display again.

Step 8. To change the delayed brew time, follow steps 1-5.

Note: To brew immediately and cancel AUTO BREW, press the Start/Power button. If you don’t want to brew then, immediately press the Start/Power button again to turn off the coffeemaker. The button light goes off.

Step 1. Be sure the unit is unplugged and has cooled on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 2. Open the cover.

Step 3. To remove the filter basket, grip the handle and lift straight up. Discard the paper filter and the coffee grounds.

Step 4. Wash the filter basket, carafe and carafe lid in the top rack of the dishwasher or wash by hand with hot water and soap.

Step 5. Wipe the appliance’s exterior surface, control panel and carafe plate with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads. Never immerse the coffeemaker in water.

Step 6. To clean the inside of the cover, open the cover and leave in the open position. Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth.

After every 60 brews, “CL” will be displayed and blink on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker, notifying you it is time to run the Auto Clean system. “CL” will be displayed until you run the Auto Clean system. If you would like to clean your coffeemaker prior to 60 brew cycles, you may do so by following the steps below.

Please note: If the unit is unplugged, the counter that keeps track of reminding you to clean your coffeemaker will reset to 0.

If you have unplugged the coffeemaker, or if there have been power outages, we recommend cleaning the unit once a month.

Step 1. Combine 6 cups of white vinegar and 4 cups of cold water in the carafe. Filtered water is recommended.

Step 2. Pour the mixture into the water reservoir.

Step 3. Place an 8 to 12 cup basket style paper filter in the removable filter basket. Insert the filter basket into the filter basket holder and close the cover.

Step 4. Make sure the lid of the carafe is in place and place the empty carafe on the carafe plate.

Step 5. Plug the power cord into an outlet.

Step 6. Press the CLEAN button to activate the cleaning cycle; “CL” is displayed and the Start/Power button illuminates. The word, “CLEAN” scrolls across the display on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 7. Part of the mixture will brew through. The remaining mixture will be held in the coffeemaker for 30 minutes before completing its brew through.

Note: The entire cleaning cycle will take 45 to 60 minutes to complete.

Step 8. When the coffeemaker completes the AUTO CLEAN cycle, it shuts off automatically.

Step 9. Brew fresh water through the appliance following instructions given in GETTING STARTED before brewing coffee again.

Possible Cause: Coffeemaker is not plugged in.

Solution: Make sure appliance is plugged into a working outlet when operating the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Possible Cause 1: Water reservoir may have been overfilled.

Solution 1: Make sure you don’t fill the water reservoir beyond the 12-cup line when using the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Possible Cause 2: Cover may not be correctly placed on carafe.

Solution 2: Make sure cover is correctly placed and tightened on carafe.

Possible Cause 3: Carafe may not be correctly placed on the carafe plate.

Solution 3: Make sure carafe is placed securely onto the carafe plate.

Possible Cause 1: The carafe has been removed for longer than 30 seconds when using the Sneak-A-Cup™ feature.

Solution 1: Make sure to replace the carafe within 30 seconds during the brewing cycle.

Possible Cause 2: Excessive amount of coffee is used.

Solution 2: Reduce the amount of coffee used.

Possible Cause 3: Brewing with softened water.

Solution 3: Always brew with cold, filtered water.

Possible Cause: The paper filter and/or the filter basket are not properly placed.

Solution: Insert a basket-shaped paper filter into the filter basket and insert the basket properly into the holder on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Possible Cause: The coffeemaker needs cleaning.

Solution: Follow the instructions in the “Auto Clean” section for the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker.

Step 1. Read all instructions.

Step 2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.

Step 3. To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons do not immerse cord, plugs or appliance in water or other liquid.

Step 4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

Step 5. Unplug from outlet when either the appliance or display clock is not in use, and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.

Step 7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.

Step 8. Do not use outdoors.

Step 9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.

Step 10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.

Step 11. To disconnect, press the Start/Power button to turn the appliance off, then remove plug from wall outlet.

Step 12. Do not use this appliance for other than intended use.

Step 13. Keep lid on the carafe when in use.

Step 14. Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.

Step 15. The carafe is designed for use with this appliance. It must never be used on a range top.

Step 16. Do not set a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.

Step 17. Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.

Step 18. Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads or other abrasive material.

Step 19. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

To brew immediately and cancel AUTO BREW, press the Start/Power button on the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker. If you don’t want to brew then, immediately press the Start/Power button again to turn off the coffeemaker, and the button light goes off.

This appliance is equipped with a tamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover of the BLACK+DECKER CM1331S Coffeemaker. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.

Possible Cause: Coffeemaker is not plugged in.

Solution: Make sure appliance is plugged into a working outlet.

Possible Cause: The carafe has been removed for longer than 30 seconds when using the Sneak-A-Cup™ feature.
