To ensure the safe use of your BENQ GS2 projector, please follow these instructions:

Placement and Environment:

• Always place the projector on a level, horizontal surface. Do not place it on an unstable cart, stand, or table.

• Do not use if tilted at an angle of more than 10 degrees left to right, or more than 15 degrees front to back.

• Do not store the projector vertically on its end.

• Ensure at least 50 cm of clearance from walls for proper ventilation. Do not place it in poorly ventilated or confined spaces.

• Avoid locations with high temperatures (like a closed car), excessive humidity, dust, or cigarette smoke.

• Avoid locations near fire alarms or with an ambient temperature above 40°C/104°F.

• Avoid locations where altitudes are higher than 2000 m (6562 feet).

Operation:

• Do not block the vent holes while the projector is on. Do not cover it or place it on soft surfaces like a blanket.

• Do not place liquids near or on the projector. Spills will void the warranty.

• Do not look straight into the projector lens during operation as it may harm your sight.

• Do not step on the projector or place objects on it.

• In areas with fluctuating power, use a power stabilizer, surge protector, or UPS.

Maintenance and Repair:

• Do not operate the lamp beyond its rated life.

• The lamp becomes extremely hot. Allow the projector to cool for approximately 45 minutes before attempting lamp replacement.

• Do not attempt to disassemble the projector. Refer servicing only to qualified professional service personnel.

Moisture and Cleaning:

• If moving the projector from a cold to a hot location, wait at least 2 hours before use to prevent moisture condensation.

• Do not use volatile liquids like insecticides or cleaners near the projector.

The BENQ GS2 projector includes the following features:

• Instant Wireless Projection: Cast the screen from a mobile device to enjoy content on a big screen.

• Bluetooth Speaker Mode: Use the BENQ GS2 as a Bluetooth speaker to play music from a mobile device.

• Designed with Protection from the Outdoors: The projector is certified with IPX2 standard protection against drizzle and dust, and has a soft rubber surface designed to withstand a 1-meter drop.

• Care for Children’s Eyes: Features LumiExpert™ technology to adjust brightness and an auto light shut-off sensor that turns off the LED light when objects are detected within 30 cm in front of the lens.

• Magnetic DC-in Cable Connection: A magnetic DC-in cable design helps prevent tripping or stumbling over the cable.

• Parental Control: Includes a Parental Timer to prevent excessive use and security features for wireless projection.

• Media Playback from USB Type C™ DisplayPort: A USB-C™ port that supports both power and data transmission, allowing you to project screens from compatible devices while charging them.

• Portable Media Player: Supports up to 3 hours of projection in battery mode and features two 2-W chamber speakers.

Control Panel Functions:

1. LED indicators: Show the status of the projector.

2. Power button: Turns the projector on and off.

3. Direction buttons (left, right, up, down): Used to select menu items and make adjustments.

4. Back button: Used to return to the previous layers.

5. Ambient light sensor and rear IR sensor: Detects ambient light and receives signals from the remote control.

6. OK button: Used to confirm a selection in the BenQ Launcher menu.

7. Menu button: Launches the BenQ Launcher settings menu.

8. Home button: Press this key to enter the BenQ Launcher home menu.

Port Functions:

1. Wireless dongle port: Insert the BenQ WDR02U USB wireless dongle here to enable wireless and Bluetooth connections.

2. 3.5” audio output jack: Used to connect headphones, speakers, and other audio equipment.

3. USB-C™ port: Used to connect devices with DisplayPort functionality or flash drives to project media.

4. HDMI 1.4a port: Used to connect video sources that support the HDMI interface.

5. Factory reset button: Insert a fine-tipped instrument to force shut down the projector.

6. USB 2.0 port: Used to connect a USB-A storage device to project media. You can also connect a wireless keyboard/mouse via this port.

The BENQ GS2 has three LEDs on top that indicate its status. The behavior of these LEDs is described in the table below:

*Restart the projector if there are any errors.

The functions of the buttons on the BENQ GS2 remote control are as follows:

1. Power: Turns the projector off and on after the initial startup.

2. Arrow keys (Left, Right, Up, Down): Used to select menu items and make adjustments.

3. Menu: Launches the BenQ Launcher settings menu.

4. Home: Enters the BenQ Launcher home menu. This key is only active in BenQ Launcher mode.

5. – Volume Down: Decreases the projector volume.

6. Focus/Mouse Cursor: Short press to start auto focus; long press to enable the mouse cursor.

7. OK: Confirms the selection on the BenQ Launcher menu.

8. Back: Returns to the previous menu.

9. + Volume Up: Increases the projector volume.

Activating the Battery for First-Time Use:

1. Use a flat-tipped instrument to rotate the battery cover counter-clockwise to the unlocked position.

2. Remove the battery cover from the remote control.

3. Pull and remove the clear plastic battery sticker.

4. Place the battery cover back onto the remote control and rotate it clockwise to the locked position.

Replacing the Battery:

1. Use a flat-tipped instrument to rotate the battery cover counter-clockwise to the unlocked position.

2. Remove the battery cover from the remote control.

3. Carefully dislodge the used battery from underneath the retention coil and slide it out.

4. Slide the new battery (CR2032) into its position underneath the retention coil.

5. Place the battery cover back onto the remote control and rotate it clockwise to the locked position.

Note: Avoid leaving the remote control and battery in an excessively hot or humid environment. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

The BenQ Smart Control app transforms your smartphone into a remote control for the projector.

To install the app:

1. Make sure your smartphone is connected to the Internet.

2. On the BENQ GS2 projector, navigate to the Settings menu from the BenQ Launcher home screen and select BenQ Smart Control, then press OK.

3. Scan the QR code shown on the projector screen with your smartphone to open a download link.

4. Download and install the BenQ Smart Control app on your smartphone.

To use the app:

1. Connect your smartphone to the same wireless network as your projector, or connect it to the projector’s wireless hotspot.

2. Open the BenQ Smart Control app on your smartphone.

3. Select your projector (e.g., “BenQ GS2-xxxx”) from the device list.

4. Choose one of the following control methods:

• Tap DPad to use pre-configured buttons in the app to control your projector.

• Tap Mouse to use touch gestures on your smartphone to control the cursor on the projector screen, similar to a mouse.

Before choosing a location, consider the screen size and position, electrical outlet location, and distance to other equipment. You can install your BENQ GS2 projector in the following ways:

The projected image size for your BENQ GS2 is determined by the distance from the projector lens to the screen. The table below provides approximate measurements for projection distance.

Note: All measurements are approximate. For permanent installation, it is recommended to physically test the projection size and distance with the actual projector.

Starting Up the BENQ GS2:

1. Install the provided wireless dongle into the wireless dongle port.

2. Charge the battery or connect the power adapter.

3. Press and hold the power key on the projector for 3 seconds. The LED indicator will light up and “breathe” green. The fans will start, and a start-up image will be shown.

4. If this is your first time using the projector, a setup wizard will appear. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure settings for Installation, Language, Keystone, Wireless Network, and Time Zone.

5. Read the Personal information declaration and press Agree.

6. Once the setup is complete, you can connect a device to project video.

Shutting Down the BENQ GS2:

1. Press and hold the power key on the projector or the remote control for 3 seconds. A shutdown confirmation message will appear.

2. The power LED indicator will turn off. The fans may continue to run to cool the lamp.

3. If the projector will not be used for an extended period, unplug the power cable from the power outlet.

Note: Avoid turning the projector on immediately after turning it off, as excessive heat may shorten lamp life.

You can adjust the projected image on your BENQ GS2 in several ways:

Adjusting the Projection Angle:

The projector has a pivoting head. To adjust the projection angle, simply pivot the head upwards or downwards until the image is positioned as desired. The maximum angle of adjustment is 15 degrees.

Fine-tuning the Image Clarity (Focus):

To sharpen the picture, short press the focus key on the remote control. The projector will perform an auto-focus adjustment. You can also manually adjust the focus in the BenQ Launcher settings menu under Auto Focus.

Correcting Keystone:

Keystoning occurs when the projected image is wider at the top or bottom because the projector is not perpendicular to the screen. To correct this:

1. On the remote, press the down arrow key three times to navigate to the settings menus.

2. Select Settings and press OK.

3. Select Keystone and press OK.

4. Disable the Auto Keystone setting.

5. Select Keystone adjustment and press OK.

6. Use the up arrow key to correct keystoning at the top of the image and the down arrow key for the bottom.

7. Press the Back key to save your changes and return to the previous menu.

First, ensure your BENQ GS2 is connected to a wireless network. Then, follow the steps for your device type:

For iOS & macOS (via AirPlay):

1. On the BenQ Launcher home screen, select Wireless Projection for iOS & macOS and press OK.

2. On your iOS/macOS device, connect to the same Wi-Fi network shown on the projector’s screen, then select Next on the projector’s screen.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate screen mirroring (AirPlay) from your device’s Control Center and select the BENQ GS2 to begin projecting.

4. Once finished, disable AirPlay on your device to end the connection.

For Android™ (via Screencasting):

1. On the BenQ Launcher home screen, select Wireless Projection for Android™ and press OK.

2. On your Android device, connect to the same Wi-Fi network shown on the projector’s screen, then select Next on the projector’s screen.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate your device’s screencasting feature (e.g., Smart View, Cast) and select the BENQ GS2 to begin projecting.

4. Once finished, disable screencasting on your device to end the connection.

For PC:

1. On the BenQ Launcher home screen, select Wireless Projection for PC and press OK.

2. On your PC, connect to the same Wi-Fi network shown on the projector’s screen, then select Next on the projector’s screen.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions, which typically involve using the casting feature within the Chrome browser or your operating system’s wireless display feature (e.g., Windows key + K).

4. Once finished, stop casting from your PC to end the connection.

The Media Player allows you to play image, video, and audio files from a connected USB-A or USB-C™ flash drive.

1. Connect your flash drive to the appropriate port on the BENQ GS2.

2. A pop-up notification will appear. Select OPEN to launch the Media Player automatically. Alternatively, navigate to the Source menu on the BenQ Launcher home screen and select File Manager.

3. The Media Player will show your connected device. Select it.

4. Choose a category: All, Video, Picture, or Audio.

5. Use the arrow keys on the remote to select a file and press OK to play it.

Playback Controls:

• For Video: Use the on-screen controls to play/pause, rewind, and fast forward.

• For Images: Use the on-screen controls to stop the playlist, or go to the previous/next image.

• For Audio: Use the on-screen controls to play/pause, go to the previous/next track, shuffle, and repeat.

To exit playback, press the Back key on your remote control.

Pairing/Connecting to a Bluetooth Speaker or Headphones:

1. Ensure the wireless dongle is installed in your BENQ GS2.

2. From the BenQ Launcher home screen, navigate to the settings shortcuts and select Bluetooth, then press OK.

3. Select the Bluetooth toggle to enable it.

4. Activate Bluetooth pairing mode on your speaker or headphones.

5. On the projector, select your speaker/headphones from the Available Devices list and press OK.

6. Once successfully connected, the device will be labeled “Connected.” Audio from the projector will now output to the connected device.

Using the BENQ GS2 Projector as a Bluetooth Speaker:

1. Power on the projector.

2. Navigate to the full Settings menu.

3. Select Bluetooth Speaker Mode and press OK.

4. Select OK again to confirm changing to speaker mode. The projector screen will turn off.

5. Activate Bluetooth pairing on your mobile device and connect to the BENQ GS2 from your device’s Bluetooth menu.

6. To end the connection and return to projector mode, disconnect from your mobile device or press the Back key on the projector’s remote control.

To configure Parental Control settings, navigate to Settings > Parental Control from the BenQ Launcher. The available options are:

System Passcode	Enable/Disable a System Passcode to configure Auto Power Off and Key Lock settings. The passcode must be 8 characters.
Change System Passcode	Changes the System Passcode. This function is only available when System Passcode is enabled.
Forget Passcode	Scan the QR code to recover the System Passcode. This function is only available when System Passcode is enabled.
Auto Power Off	Enable/Disable the auto power off timer. This function is only available when System Passcode is enabled.
Timer Setting	Sets the time interval (HH:MM, at least 5 minutes) for the projector to automatically power off when inactive. This is only available when Auto Power Off is enabled.
Key Lock	Enables Key Lock, which locks the control keys on the projector (except the power button) to prevent accidental changes. To unlock, press and hold the menu button on the projector for 3 seconds. This is only available when System Passcode is enabled.
Eye Protection	Enables/Disables the auto light shut-off sensors that turn off the LED light source when an object is detected within 30 cm of the projector for more than 1 second.

You can extend the life of the projection LED by changing the Light Mode setting.

1. Go to Settings > Picture > Light Mode.

2. Use the arrow keys to select your desired mode.

The available modes are:

LED mode	Description
Normal	100% lamp brightness.
Eco Mode	Reduces system noise and power consumption by 30%. The light output will be reduced, resulting in darker projected pictures. This mode extends the light source life.
Battery Mode	Reduces system noise and power consumption to fulfill 3 hours of projection. The light output is reduced.

Setting the projector Light Mode to Eco will help extend the lamp life.

The BENQ GS2 uses Over-the-Air (OTA) updates to install the latest firmware wirelessly.

1. When a new firmware version is available and the projector is connected to a wireless network, a message will pop up.

2. Select DOWNLOAD to download the update file.

3. Once the download is complete, the projector will restart automatically to install the update. Do not turn off or unplug the projector during this process.

4. Wait for the update to finish and for the BenQ Launcher to reappear on the screen.

If you select CANCEL on the update message, a red dot will appear on the Settings > About menu icon as a reminder. You can manually start the update at any time by navigating to Settings > About > System Update > Update.

Note: Keep the battery charged to at least 60% (3 bars on the battery status icon) to ensure a successful OTA update.

If your BENQ GS2 projector won’t turn on, try the following remedies:

• If there is no power from the power cable: Plug the power cable securely into the AC inlet on the projector and into a working power outlet. If the outlet has a switch, ensure it is turned on.

• If the battery is running out: Plug in the power adapter to charge the projector until the LED indicator turns to breathing green. Then, press and hold the power key on the projector for 3 seconds to turn it on.

This issue can be caused by two main reasons:

• The device does not have DisplayPort functionality: Make sure the USB-C™ port on your mobile phone or laptop supports DisplayPort functionality (specifically, DisplayPort Alternate Mode, version 1.1 or above). Not all USB-C ports support video output.

• The USB-C™ cable is not compatible: Use a USB-C™ Gen 3.1 cable to ensure it has sufficient bandwidth for media data transmission.

If the projected image is blurry, consider these possible causes and solutions:

• The projection lens is not correctly focused: Adjust the focus of the lens by short pressing the focus key on the remote control to activate auto-focus.

• The projector and the screen are not aligned properly: Adjust the projection angle and direction, as well as the height of the projector, if necessary, to ensure it is perpendicular to the screen surface.

If your BENQ GS2 projector cannot find or connect to your Wi-Fi network, try the following solutions:

If the projector cannot find the desired SSID:

The radio frequency of the router may be out of range. Check your router’s settings:

• For 2.4G frequency, make sure the router’s SSID is broadcasting on a channel from 1 to 11.

• For 5G frequency (A and C SKU), make sure the router’s SSID is at channel 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, or 161.

• For 5G frequency (E SKU), make sure the router’s SSID is at channel 36, 40, 44, or 48.

If the projector cannot connect to the desired SSID:

The handshaking between the projector and the router may not follow IEEE 802.11 protocols correctly. Check your router’s wireless mode configuration:

• For 2.4G frequency, ensure the wireless mode of the router is configured as 802.11g/n or 802.11n.

• For 5G frequency, ensure the wireless mode of the router is configured as 802.11n.

The BENQ GS2 projector supports the following file formats for playback through its Media Player:

Note: If the peak bit rate of a video file is larger than 10MB, it might cause video playback lag.
