What are the general safety instructions for using the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

Before setting off, check that all attachments are properly fixed in place.

To avoid falls and dangerous situations, you should first practice driving your new B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair on level, unobstructed ground. An attendant is recommended in this case.

Familiarise yourself thoroughly with the braking and acceleration behaviour when driving in a straight line and into and out of curves.

Please note that the shifting of weight through body movements or loading can increase the risk of tipping over to the side, to the front or back.

The B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair must only be used to transport one person. Please respect the intended use (see Chapter 2.6).

When setting up or adjusting the product, be aware of the risk of body parts being pinched.

Never use the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair under the influence of alcohol or other agents which affect your awareness or your physical and mental capacities.

It is essential that you use ramps to get over obstacles. If it should be necessary to lift the B+B EJOY MD over an obstacle, then only do this without an occupant. Only use fixed frame parts to lift the chair.

Avoid driving into obstacles without braking (furniture, steps or similar items).

The control unit must always be switched off whenever you are getting in or out of the chair.

When on roads, observe the road traffic regulations.

The lighting and reflectors on the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair must always be visible to other road users.

Where possible, wear bright conspicuous clothes. You will then be seen better by other road users.

Please note that upholstery parts which are subject to sunlight will heat up and could cause skin injury when touched. You should therefore cover these parts or protect the wheelchair from direct sunlight.

The seating upholstery and pads’ materials meet the flammability resistance requirements in accordance with EN 1021-2/ISO 8191-2. Therefore do not expose the upholstery or pads or any other parts to ignition sources – such as, for example, cigarettes.

Always put the seat and backrest into an upright position when you are driving the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair.

Use on slopes is only permitted when the seat and backrest are in an upright position.

At low ambient temperatures, the metal parts of the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair can get very cold, so please avoid skin contact if this is the case.

If you should notice your B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair behaving unusually or if it is damaged, stop using it and contact your dealer.

What should I do if the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair experiences electromagnetic interference?

Despite compliance with all applicable EMC Directives and standards, it is possible that the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair may interfere with other electrical devices (e.g. mobile phones, alarm systems) or that its driving performance will be reduced by those devices.

If you notice such behaviour, switch off either the third-party device or your B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair and move it beyond the range of interference.

How does the operating brake of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair work?

When in motion, the motors act as an operating brake. To brake the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair slowly, move the steering and driving lever (joystick) slowly back to the neutral position (initial position).

For more forceful braking, release the steering and driving lever.

The braking distance is significantly longer on slopes than on flat ground. Bear this in mind when going down ramps and brake in time.

Make sure that you brake your B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair in good time. Particularly when approaching people or when driving downhill.

How do I use the parking brake on the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

How do I clean the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

The seat and back materials can be cleaned with warm water using a sponge and/or a soft brush. In case of stubborn dirt, a commercial cleaning agent can be added to the water.

Note: Never use aggressive cleaning agents such as solvents / scouring agents or hard brushes.

Plastic parts are best cleaned with a commercially available plastic cleaner. Please observe the product information of the cleaning agent.

Plastic claddings are attacked by non-ionic surfactants and solvents, especially alcohols!

Wipe the frame parts of the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair with a damp cloth. For heavier soiling, also use a mild cleaning agent.

Clean the wheels with a damp brush with plastic bristles (do not use a wire brush!).

Do not use a high-pressure cleaner.

Wash the push handles, arm pads, seat and back pads with a mild detergent.

Upholstery parts can be machine washed at 40°C. Do not machine dry, only dry at room temperature.

How do I disinfect the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

Before disinfection, the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair must be thoroughly cleaned. The wheelchair can be disinfected with a household disinfectant.

Use approved spray disinfectants or alcohol-based wipe-on disinfectants.

In the case of multiple product users, a commercial disinfectant is prescribed.

Use only wipe-on disinfectants approved by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Association for Applied Hygiene (Verbund für Angewandte Hygiene e.V.) (e.g. Bacillol AF or Kohrsolin FF); see manufacturer‘s recommendations for exposure time and concentration.

Caution: Damaged upholstery parts cannot be sufficiently disinfected. These should be replaced.

Under certain circumstances, the surfaces can be affected by disinfectants. Longer-term restrictions of the functionality can be the result.

Attention: Danger of infection! If there are several users, the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair must be cleaned after each use.

Do not use a high-pressure or steam cleaner.

How do I check the brakes of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair before use?

Make sure the brake system is functioning properly before each use.

Start up carefully and then allow the driving lever to come back to its initial position. The B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair must come to a halt as usual (see Chapter 2.5).

When stationary, the electromechanical brake must be locked in place with an audible click. Notify your dealer of defects immediately and discontinue use of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair!

The motor brake is working properly if you cannot push the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair when it is switched off. However, if it is possible to do this, the electromagnetic brake is defective. In this case, you must stop using the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair. Contact your dealer immediately.

How do I check the lighting, indicators, and horn of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair before setting off?

Before setting off each time, check that the horn works properly.

If, after pressing the appropriate button on the control panel, there is no response, notify your dealer immediately and take the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair out of use.

How do I check the tyres of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

The tyres will wear over time.

Therefore, check they are intact before setting off each time.

Check the tread depth of the tyres. It should be at least one millimetre. The air pressure must match the values specified in the technical data (see Chapter 6).

Contact your dealer if the tyres are defective or worn.

What should I know about batteries for the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

Your B+B EJOY MD wheelchair is fitted with maintenance-free batteries, so you do not need to check the liquid level.

If your B+B EJOY MD wheelchair is not used for a longer period of time, you must connect the charger every 4 weeks, otherwise the batteries could be damaged by deep discharge.

Before setting off each time, check the charge status of your battery by looking at the battery status display on your control unit. If the battery status display is only showing red LED’s, you should not travel longer journeys and connect the battery charger to the wheelchair immediately. We recommend that you connect the charger to the wheelchair after every trip.

Only use an approved charger to charge the batteries (see technical data). Please also follow the operating instructions for the charger!

How do I put the batteries of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair into operation for the first time?

The batteries of your B+B EJOY MD wheelchair must be fully charged before first use. To do this, connect the charger supplied to the wheelchair (please refer to the instruction manual supplied separately with the charger for details).

The charging process can take up to 12 hours, depending on the size and charge status of the batteries. As with all future charging processes, the charge status must be read on the charger and not on the battery display of the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair.

Depending on the lead battery technology (AGM or Gel), the maximum usable battery capacity is only reached after several charging processes (up to 10 complete charging processes). During this time, take particular care not to run the batteries completely flat and to recharge them as fully as possible after each ride.

The charge status must be read on the charger and not on the display of the scooter.

How do I use the batteries of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair daily?

If possible, fully charge the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair batteries before every journey. Familiarise yourself with the function of the battery indicator (see operating instructions for your wheelchair) and check it regularly during the journey. Plan your journeys so, that there is always enough battery charge to enable you to return to the starting point or, if necessary, to the next charging point.

If the battery charge level is very low, depending on the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair model, an acoustic warning, e.g. a repetitive double beep, is emitted in addition to the flashing battery indicator (see chapter 10). From this point onwards, the remaining range of the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair is very short – a few hundred metres to a few kilometres – please charge the batteries fully immediately! The warning tone is only deactivated after the batteries have been fully charged (see display on the charger).

If the warning tone is still active despite full charging, acknowledge the warning tone as follows: With the charger still connected to the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair and switched on, switch the wheelchair on using the on/off button or the driving key and switch it off again after a few seconds.

Please also observe the instructions for use of the supplied charger, which are described on the charger itself and in the operating instructions for the charger. Only use the charger supplied and approved by Bischoff & Bischoff!

During subsequent use, you can recharge the batteries at any battery level.

You can also interrupt the charging process if the batteries are not yet full, e.g. because you want to continue driving.

If possible, however, always charge the batteries to 100 % so that you have as much range as possible.

Do not charge frozen batteries.

How do I charge the batteries of the B+B EJOY MD electric wheelchair?

The batteries must be charged between 0° and 40° C.

First switch off the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair.

Before starting up the charger, check that the power supply is 230 V.

Connect the charger to the charging socket on the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair and then to the mains socket (230 V).

The charging socket is located on the side below the control unit.

Once the charging process is complete, disconnect the mains plug and then disconnect the B+B EJOY MD wheelchair from the charger.

When not in use, the battery should be charged once a month to prevent deep discharge.

Deep discharging considerably shortens the service life of the battery and can also damage it.

Batteries should be stored upright, dry and frost-free.

As soon as the range decreases noticeably with fully charged batteries, you should replace them.

Never use your B+B EJOY MD wheelchair with empty or almost empty batteries. You could put yourself and others in great danger if you stop unexpectedly.
