The AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A includes several unique features:

To assemble your AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A, follow these steps:

Install SIM/microSD card:

Your device uses a nano-SIM card. Place the SIM card and the optional microSD card (sold separately) into the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

Charge your device:

Before turning on your device, charge it fully. Use only charging devices and batteries that are approved by Samsung. Samsung charging devices and batteries are designed for your device to maximize battery life. Using other charging devices and batteries may void your warranty and may cause damage.

Use the Power key to turn your device on or off.

Turn on: Press and hold the Power key.

Turn off: Press and hold the Power key, and tap Power off. Confirm when prompted.

Restart: Press and hold the Power key, and tap Restart. Confirm when prompted.

The first time you turn your AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A on, the Setup Wizard guides you through the basics of setting up your device. Follow the prompts to choose a default language, connect to a Wi-Fi® network, set up accounts, choose location services, learn about your device’s features, and more.

You can use your device’s screen lock features to secure it. By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out.

To lock the screen: Press the Power key.

To unlock the screen: Press the Power key to turn on the screen, and then swipe the screen to unlock it.

You can set up and manage your email accounts, your Google™ Account, and Samsung account.

Add a Google Account:

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Accounts.

2. Tap Add account > Google.

Add a Samsung account:

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Accounts.

2. Tap Add account > Samsung account.

Add an email account:

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Accounts.

2. Tap Add account > Email.

You can use Smart Switch™ to transfer contacts, photos, music, videos, messages, notes, calendars, and more from your old device. Smart Switch can transfer your data via USB cable, Wi-Fi, or computer.

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Smart Switch.

2. Follow the prompts and select the content to transfer.

The touch screen on your AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a capacitive stylus.

Tap: Lightly touch items to select or launch them. You can tap an item to select it or double-tap an image to zoom in or out.

Swipe: Lightly drag your finger across the screen. You can swipe the screen to unlock the device or swipe to scroll through Home screens or menu options.

Drag and drop: Touch and hold an item, and then move it to a new location. You can drag an app shortcut to add it to a Home screen or drag a widget to place it in a new location.

Zoom in and out: Bring your thumb and forefinger together on the screen to zoom out, or move them apart on the screen to zoom in.

Touch and hold: Touch and hold items to activate them. You can touch and hold a field to display a pop-up menu of options or touch and hold a Home screen to customize it.

To make more space on the screen, you can hide the navigation keys and instead use gestures. Simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen to navigate.

To enable navigation gestures:

1. From Settings, tap Display > Navigation bar > Full screen gestures.

2. Tap Gesture hints to display lines at the bottom of the screen where gestures must be done for each navigation button.

You can personalize your device by changing where the Recent apps and Back buttons display on the Navigation bar.

From Settings, tap Display > Navigation bar, and tap an option under Button order.

To access the Bixby Home page, which displays customized content based on your interactions, simply swipe right from a Home screen.

You can monitor and manage your digital habits with a daily view of app usage and notifications. To access this feature, go to Settings and tap Digital wellbeing. From there, you can view:

Screen time: Tap the time value in the dashboard circle for details on how long each app has been opened and used today.

Unlocks: Tap to see how many times each app has been opened today.

Notifications: Tap to see how many notifications have been received from each app today.

Dashboard: View all dashboard information. Each app can have a timer set to limit usage throughout the day.

Wind down: Enable to turn the screen to grayscale and limit notifications before going to bed.

Notifications: Configure notification settings for each app.

You can customize the Home screen by adding app icons, changing wallpapers, and adding widgets.

Add an app icon: From Apps, touch and hold an app icon, and tap Add to Home.

Remove an app icon: Touch and hold an app icon on the Home screen, and tap Remove from Home. This does not delete the app.

Change wallpapers:

1. From a Home screen, touch and hold the screen.

2. Tap Wallpapers.

3. Tap an image, select the screen to apply it to, and tap Set as wallpaper.

Add widgets:

1. From a Home screen, touch and hold the screen.

2. Tap Widgets, then touch and hold a widget, drag it to a Home screen, and release it.

Customize widgets: From a Home screen, touch and hold a widget, and tap an option like Remove from Home, Widget settings, or App info.

2. Tap Home screen settings to customize:

Home screen layout: Set your device to have separate Home and Apps screens, or only a Home screen where all apps are located.

Home screen grid: Choose a layout to determine how icons are arranged on the Home screen.

Apps screen grid: Choose a layout to determine how icons are arranged on the Apps screen.

Apps button: Add a button to the Home screen for easy access to the Apps screen.

App icon badges: Enable to show badges on apps with active notifications.

Lock Home screen layout: Prevent items on the Home screen from being removed or repositioned.

Add apps to Home screen: Automatically add newly-downloaded apps to the Home screen.

Quick-open notification panel: Enable this feature to open the Notification panel by swiping down anywhere on the Home screen.

Hide apps: Choose apps to hide from the Home and App screens.

About Home screen: View version information.

You can access the Notification panel from any screen for quick access to notifications, settings, and more.

View the Notification panel:

1. Drag the Status bar down to display the Notification panel.

2. Swipe down the list to see notification details.

– To open an item, tap it.

– To clear a single notification, drag it left or right.

– To clear all notifications, tap Clear.

– To customize notifications, tap Notification settings.

3. Drag upward from the bottom of the screen or tap Back to close the panel.

Use Quick settings:

1. Drag the Status bar down to display the Notification panel.

2. Drag View all downward to see all Quick settings.

– Tap a quick setting icon to turn it on or off.

– Touch and hold a quick setting icon to open its setting.

3. Drag View all upward to close Quick settings.

Multi window allows you to multitask by using two apps at the same time on a split screen.

1. From any screen, tap Recent apps.

2. Tap the app icon, and then tap Open in split screen view.

3. Tap an app in the other window to add it to the split screen view.

You can drag the middle of the window border to adjust the window size.

You can enter text using the Samsung keyboard or your voice.

Using the Samsung Keyboard:

Tap a text field to display the Samsung keyboard. You can tap ‘Show predictive text’ to view suggested words while you type, and ‘Show toolbar functions’ to view all keyboard options. The toolbar provides functions like Clipboard, Emojis, GIF keyboard, Handwriting, Modes, Settings, Stickers, Text editing, and Voice input.

Using Google Voice Typing:

1. From the Samsung keyboard, tap Voice input.

2. Tap the screen and speak your text.

You can manage your apps from the Apps list, which is accessed by swiping up from a Home screen.

Uninstall or disable apps: From the Apps list, touch and hold an app, and tap Uninstall/Disable. Some preloaded apps can only be disabled.

Search for apps: From the Apps list, tap Finder search, and enter a word. Tap a result to go to that app.

Sort apps: From the Apps list, tap More options > Sort to arrange apps manually (Custom order) or alphabetically.

Create folders: From the Apps list, touch and hold an app shortcut and drag it on top of another app shortcut to create a folder.

Take Pictures:

1. From Apps, tap Camera.

2. Tap the screen where you want the camera to focus. A brightness scale will appear to adjust brightness.

3. To switch between front and rear cameras, swipe the screen up or down.

4. To change shooting modes, swipe the screen right or left.

5. Tap Capture to take a picture.

Record Videos:

1. From the Camera app, swipe right or left to change the shooting mode to Video.

2. Tap Capture to begin recording.

3. To temporarily stop recording, tap Pause. To continue, tap Resume.

4. Tap Stop when you are finished recording.

The Clock app allows you to manage alarms, world clock, stopwatch, and timer.

Alarm:

1. From the Clock app, tap the Alarm tab, then tap Add alarm.

2. Configure the Time, Day, Alarm name, Alarm sound, Vibration, and Snooze options.

3. Tap Save.

World clock: Keep track of time in multiple cities. Tap the World clock tab and tap Add city to add locations.

Stopwatch: Time events down to a hundredth of a second. Tap the Stopwatch tab and tap Start.

Timer: Set a countdown timer. Tap the Timer tab, set the time, and tap Start.

You can store, manage, and synchronize your contacts.

Create a contact: From Apps, tap Contacts > Create contact. Fill in the details and tap Save.

Edit a contact: From Contacts, tap a contact, then tap Edit. Make changes and tap Save.

Share a contact: From Contacts, tap a contact, then tap Share. Choose a sharing method and follow the prompts.

Manage groups: From Contacts, tap Menu > Groups to create, manage, and message contact groups.

Import/export contacts: From Contacts, tap Menu > Manage contacts to import or export contacts as vCard files (VCF).

The Gallery app lets you view, edit, and manage your visual media.

View pictures: From Gallery, tap Pictures. Tap a picture to view it and swipe left or right to see others.

Edit pictures: Tap a picture to view it, then tap Edit to access tools like Transform, Effects, Stickers, Text, Draw, and Brightness.

Play video: Tap a video to view it, then tap Play video.

Share pictures and videos: Tap More options > Share, select items, and tap Share. Choose an app to share with.

Delete pictures and videos: Tap More options > Edit, select items, and tap Delete.

You can capture an image of your screen in two ways:

Button method: From any screen, press and hold the Power and Volume down keys at the same time.

Palm swipe: Capture an image by swiping the edge of your hand across the screen, from side to side. To enable this, go to Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures > Palm swipe to capture, and tap to enable it.

Screenshots are automatically saved to a Screenshots album in the Gallery app.

The Phone app allows you to make and answer calls.

Make a call: From a Home screen, tap Phone. Enter a number on the keypad and tap Call.

Answer a call: On the incoming call screen, drag Answer to the right to answer the call.

Decline a call: On the incoming call screen, drag Decline to the left to reject the call and send it to your voicemail.

End a call: Tap End when you are ready to end your call.

Actions while on a call: You can adjust volume, switch to a headset, and multitask by exiting the call screen. To return to the call, drag the Status bar down and tap the call notification.

You can connect your device to a Wi-Fi network to access the Internet.

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Wi-Fi, and then tap the toggle to turn on Wi-Fi.

2. The device will scan for available networks.

3. Tap a network from the list, and enter a password if required.

If the network is not listed, you can tap Add network at the bottom of the list and enter the network information manually.

You can pair your tablet with other Bluetooth-enabled devices like headphones.

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Bluetooth, and then tap the toggle to turn on Bluetooth.

2. Tap a device from the list of available devices and follow the prompts to connect.

To unpair a device, go to the Bluetooth settings, tap Settings next to the device name, and then tap Unpair.

You can control the sounds and vibrations for notifications, screen touches, and other interactions.

Sound mode: From Settings, tap Sounds and vibration > Sound mode, and then choose Sound, Vibrate, or Mute.

Volume: From Settings, tap Sounds and vibration > Volume, and drag the sliders to set the volume level for ringtones, notifications, and other audio.

System sounds: From Settings, tap Sounds and vibration > System sounds to customize tones for actions like touch sounds, screen lock, charging, and keyboard sounds.

Dolby Atmos: For enhanced audio quality with a headset connected, go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Advanced sound settings > Sound quality and effects, and tap Dolby Atmos.

You can configure screen brightness, timeout delay, font size, and more.

Screen brightness: From Settings, tap Display. Drag the Brightness slider to set a custom brightness level.

Blue light filter: From Settings, tap Display > Blue light filter to reduce eye strain at night. You can turn it on now or set a schedule.

Night mode: From Settings, tap Display > Night mode to switch to a darker theme.

Font size and style: From Settings, tap Display > Font size and style to change the text size and font.

Screen timeout: From Settings, tap Display > Screen timeout, and tap a time limit to set how long the screen stays on before turning off.

You can view the status of your device’s battery, storage, and memory in Device care.

Device Storage: To quickly optimize storage, go to Settings > Device care > Storage > Clean now.

Memory Card (SD Card):

– To mount a memory card, go to Settings > Device care > Storage. Tap More options > Storage settings. Under Portable storage, tap your SD card, and then tap Mount.

– To safely remove a memory card, go to the same location and tap Unmount before removing it.

– To format a memory card (which deletes all data), go to the same location and tap Format.

Memory (RAM): To check available memory and close background apps, go to Settings > Device care > Memory. Tap Clean now to free up memory.

You can reset various settings on your device. From Settings, tap General management > Reset.

Reset settings: Resets your device to its factory default settings, which resets everything except security, language, and account settings. Personal data is not affected.

Reset network settings: Resets Wi-Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth settings.

Reset accessibility settings: Resets device accessibility settings. Personal data is not affected.

Factory data reset: Resets your device to factory defaults, erasing ALL data from your device, including accounts, apps, music, photos, and files. Data on an external SD card is not affected.

You can secure your device and protect your data with several features.

Screen lock: From Settings, tap Lock screen > Screen lock type and choose a secure lock like Pattern, PIN, or Password.

Find My Mobile: This feature helps you locate, lock, or wipe your device if it is lost or stolen. From Settings, tap Security > Find My Mobile to turn it on and log in with your Samsung account.

Secure Folder: Create a private, encrypted space to store apps and data. From Settings, tap Security > Secure Folder and follow the prompts.

Encrypt SD card: Protect the data on your memory card with a password. From Settings, tap Security > Encrypt SD card.

You can configure your device to back up data to your Samsung and Google accounts.

Samsung account:

From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Backup and restore for options:

– Back up data: Configure your Samsung account to back up your data.

– Restore data: Use your Samsung account to restore your backup data.

Google Account:

From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Backup and restore for options:

– Back up my data: Enable back up of application data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers.

– Backup account: Select a Google Account to be used as your backup account.

– Automatic restore: Enable automatic restoration of settings from Google servers.
