To properly care for your ASUS P552S, follow these guidelines:

• Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery pack (if applicable) before cleaning. Use a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water. Remove any extra moisture with a dry cloth.

• Do not use strong solvents such as thinners, benzene, or other chemicals on or near your Notebook PC.

• Do not place objects on top of your Notebook PC.

• Do not expose your Notebook PC to strong magnetic or electrical fields.

The top view of your ASUS P552S includes the following components:

• Camera: The built-in camera allows you to take pictures or record videos.

• Camera indicator: This light turns on when the built-in camera is in use.

• Microphone: The built-in microphone can be used for video conferencing, voice narrations, or simple audio recording.

• Display panel: This high-definition display provides excellent viewing for photos, videos, and other multimedia files.

• Power button: Press to turn your Notebook PC on or off. You can also use it to put the PC to sleep or hibernate. If the PC is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four seconds to shut it down.

• Keyboard: Provides full-sized QWERTY keys for typing and allows access to function keys and multimedia controls.

• Touchpad: Allows the use of multi-gestures to navigate onscreen, simulating the functions of a regular mouse.

• Fingerprint sensor (optional): Captures your fingerprint for biometric authentication to log on to your Notebook PC.

The bottom of your ASUS P552S features the following components:

• Battery pack: Supplies power to your Notebook PC and is automatically charged when connected to a power source.

• Spring battery lock: Automatically locks the battery pack in place when inserted into the battery slot.

• Audio speakers: The built-in speakers allow you to hear audio directly from the Notebook PC.

• Manual battery lock: Used to secure the battery pack. It should be manually moved to a locked or unlocked position to insert or remove the battery.

• Air vents: Allow cool air to enter and warm air to exit the Notebook PC. Ensure these vents are not blocked.

The right side of your ASUS P552S includes:

• USB 2.0 port: Compatible with USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 devices such as keyboards, mice, flash drives, and printers.

• Headphone/Headset jack: Allows you to connect amplified speakers, headphones, or a headset. This port does not support three-conductor 3.5 mm microphones.

• Optical drive (on selected models): Supports various disc formats such as CDs, DVDs, recordable discs, or rewritable discs.

• Optical disc drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical drive tray.

• Optical disc drive manual eject hole: Used to eject the drive tray if the electronic eject button does not work.

• Kensington® security slot: Allows you to secure your Notebook PC with Kensington® compatible security products.

The left side of your ASUS P552S is equipped with the following ports:

• Power (DC) input port: Insert the bundled power adapter here to charge the battery and supply power.

• VGA port: Allows you to connect your Notebook PC to an external display.

• Air vents: Allow cool air to enter and warm air to exit. Do not block these vents.

• HDMI port: For connecting to an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) display. It is HDCP compliant for protected content playback.

• LAN port: Insert a network cable to connect to a local area network.

• USB 3.0 port: Provides a transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s and is backward compatible with USB 2.0.

The front of your ASUS P552S includes:

• Memory card reader: This built-in reader supports SD card formats.

• Status indicators: These lights help identify the current hardware status of your Notebook PC.

• Power indicator: Lights up when the PC is on and blinks slowly when it is in sleep mode.

• Two-color battery charge indicator: Provides a visual indication of the battery’s charge status.

• Drive activity indicator: Lights up when your Notebook PC is accessing the internal storage drives.

• Bluetooth / Wireless indicator: Lights up when the wireless function (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) is enabled.

• Capital lock indicator: Lights up when the capital lock function is activated, allowing you to type capitalized letters.

The two-color LED provides a visual indication of the battery’s charge status as follows:

Follow these steps to charge your Notebook PC:

A. Connect the AC power cord to the AC/DC adapter.

B. Plug the AC power adapter into a 100V~240V power source.

C. Connect the DC power connector into your Notebook PC’s power (DC) input.

Charge the Notebook PC for 3 hours before using it in battery mode for the first time.

Power adapter information:

• Rating output voltage: 19V

Please read the following precautions for your Notebook PC’s battery:

• The battery used in this device may present a risk of fire or chemical burn if removed or disassembled.

• Follow the warning labels for your personal safety.

• Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

• Do not dispose of in fire.

• Never attempt to short-circuit your Notebook PC’s battery.

• Never attempt to disassemble and reassemble the battery.

• Discontinue usage if leakage is found.

• The battery and its components must be recycled or disposed of properly.

• Keep the battery and other small components away from children.

You can tap anywhere on the touchpad to activate its pointer, then slide your finger on the touchpad to move the pointer onscreen.

• Slide horizontally: Move your finger left or right.

• Slide vertically: Move your finger up or down.

• Slide diagonally: Move your finger in a diagonal direction.

• Tap/Double-tap: Tap an app to select it. Double-tap an app to launch it.

• Drag and drop: Double-tap an item, then slide the same finger without lifting it off the touchpad. To drop the item to its new location, lift your finger from the touchpad.

The areas inside the dotted line on the touchpad represent the locations of the left and right mouse buttons.

• Left-click: Click an app to select it. Double-click an app to launch it.

• Right-click: Click this button to open the right-click menu.

• Two-finger scroll (up/down): Slide two fingers to scroll up or down.

• Two-finger scroll (left/right): Slide two fingers to scroll left or right.

• Zoom out: Bring together your two fingers on the touchpad.

• Zoom in: Spread apart your two fingers on the touchpad.

• Drag and drop: Select an item then press and hold the left button. Using your other finger, slide on the touchpad to drag the item, then lift your finger off the button to drop the item.

The function keys on your Notebook PC’s keyboard can trigger the following commands:

• fn + f1: Puts the Notebook PC into Sleep mode.

• fn + f2: Turns Airplane mode on or off. When enabled, Airplane mode disables all wireless connectivity.

• fn + f5: Decreases display brightness.

• fn + f6: Increases display brightness.

• fn + f7: Turns the display panel off.

• fn + f8: Toggles the display mode. Ensure that a second display is connected.

• fn + f9: Enables or disables the touchpad.

• fn + f10: Turns the speaker on or off.

• fn + f11: Turns the speaker volume down.

• fn + f12: Turns the speaker volume up.

Press the `fn` key in combination with the arrow keys to control multimedia playback:

• fn + up arrow: Stop

• fn + down arrow: Play or pause

• fn + left arrow: Skip to previous track or rewind

• fn + right arrow: Skip to next track or fast forward

1. While the Notebook PC is on, press the electronic eject button to partially eject the optical drive tray.

2. Gently pull out the drive tray. Be careful not to touch the optical drive lens.

3. Hold the disc by the edge with its printed side up, then gently place it inside the hub.

4. Push down the disc’s plastic hub until it snaps onto the optical drive hub.

5. Push the drive tray gently to close the optical drive.

The manual eject hole is used to eject the optical drive tray if the electronic eject button does not work. To manually eject the tray, insert a straightened paper clip into the manual eject hole until the drive tray opens.

WARNING! Use the manual eject hole only when the electronic eject button does not work.

When you start your ASUS P552S for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring Windows® 10.

1. Press the power button on your Notebook PC. Wait for a few minutes until the setup screen appears.

2. From the setup screen, pick your region and a language to use on your Notebook PC.

3. Carefully read the License Terms. Select I accept.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure the following basic items: Personalize, Get online, Settings, and Your account.

5. After configuring the basic items, Windows® 10 proceeds to install your apps and preferred settings. Ensure that your Notebook PC is kept powered on during the setup process.

6. Once the setup process is complete, the Desktop appears.

You can move, resize, unpin, or pin apps to the taskbar from the Start menu:

• Moving apps: Position your mouse pointer over the app, then drag and drop the app to a new location.

• Resizing apps: Position your mouse pointer over the app and right-click it, then click Resize and select an app tile size.

• Unpinning apps: Position your mouse pointer over the app and right-click it, then click Unpin from Start.

• Pinning apps to the taskbar: Position your mouse pointer over the app and right-click it, then click Pin to taskbar.

• Pinning more apps to the Start menu: From All apps, position your mouse pointer over the app you want to add and right-click it, then click Pin to Start.

The Snap feature displays apps side-by-side, allowing you to work or switch between apps.

Using the mouse:

1. Launch the app you wish to snap.

2. Drag the title bar of your app and drop it to the edge of the screen to snap.

3. Launch another app and repeat the above steps to snap another app.

Using the keyboard:

1. Launch the app you wish to snap.

2. Press and hold the Windows logo key, then use the arrow keys to snap the app.

3. Launch another app and repeat the above steps to snap another app.

You can use the following shortcuts to launch applications and navigate Windows® 10:

• Windows key: Launches Start menu

• Windows key + A: Launches Action Center

• Windows key + D: Launches the desktop

• Windows key + E: Launches File Explorer

• Windows key + H: Opens the Share panel

• Windows key + I: Launches Settings

• Windows key + K: Launches Connect panel

• Windows key + L: Activates the Lock screen

• Windows key + M: Minimizes all currently active windows

• Windows key + S: Launches Search

• Windows key + P: Launches Project panel

• Windows key + R: Opens the Run window

• Windows key + U: Opens Ease of Access Center

• Windows key + X: Opens the context menu of the Start button

• Windows key + =: Launches the magnifier icon and zooms in your screen

• Windows key + -: Zooms out your screen

• Windows key + enter: Opens Narrator Settings

Connect your Notebook PC to a Wi-Fi network by using the following steps:

1. Select the network icon from the taskbar.

2. Select the Wi-Fi icon to enable Wi-Fi.

3. Select an access point from the list of available Wi-Fi connections.

4. Select Connect to start the network connection. You may be prompted to enter a security key.

IMPORTANT! Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Wi-Fi connection.

You need to pair your Notebook PC with other Bluetooth-enabled devices to enable data transfers. Connect your devices by using the following steps:

1. Launch Settings from the Start menu.

2. Select Devices, then select Bluetooth to search for Bluetooth-enabled devices.

3. Select a device from the list. Compare the passcode on your Notebook PC with the passcode sent to your chosen device. If they are the same, select Yes to successfully pair your Notebook PC with the device.

IMPORTANT! Airplane mode disables this feature. Ensure that Airplane mode is turned off before enabling the Bluetooth connection.

Turning Airplane mode on:

• Launch Action Center from the taskbar, then select the Airplane mode icon to enable it.

• Press `fn + f2`.

Turning Airplane mode off:

• Launch Action Center from the taskbar, then select the Airplane mode icon to disable it.

• Press `fn + f2`.

1. Launch Settings.

2. Select Network & Internet.

3. Select Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center.

4. Select your LAN then select Properties.

5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) then select Properties.

6. Select Obtain an IP address automatically then select OK.

If you are using a PPPoE connection, proceed with the following steps:

7. Return to the Network and Sharing Center window then select Set up a new connection or network.

8. Select Connect to the Internet then select Next.

9. Select Broadband (PPPoE).

10. Type your User name, Password, and Connection name then select Connect.

11. Select Close to finish the configuration.

12. Select the network icon on the taskbar then select the connection you just created.

13. Type your user name and password then select Connect to start connecting to the Internet.

1. Repeat steps 1 to 5 under “Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection.”

2. Select Use the following IP address.

3. Type the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway from your service provider.

4. If needed, you can also type the preferred DNS server address and alternate DNS server address then select OK.

You can turn off your Notebook PC by doing either of the following procedures:

• Launch the Start menu, then select the Power icon > Shut down to do a normal shutdown.

• From the log-in screen, select the Power icon > Shut down.

• Press `alt + f4` to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Shut Down from the drop-down list then select OK.

• If your Notebook PC is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your Notebook PC turns off.

To put your Notebook PC to Sleep mode:

• Launch the Start menu, then select the Power icon > Sleep to put your Notebook PC to sleep.

• From the log-in screen, select the Power icon > Sleep.

• Press `alt + f4` to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Sleep from the drop-down list then select OK.

• You can also put your Notebook PC to Sleep mode by pressing the power button once.

1. Launch the Apps screen then click on the ASUS FingerPrint icon from the list of applications under ASUS.

2. Click Register to create a new fingerprint account.

3. Key in your user account password then click OK.

4. Click the ‘+’ icon on the finger illustration that corresponds to the same finger you would like to use as your fingerprint biometric data.

5. Swipe your designated finger twice on the fingerprint sensor to create your fingerprint biometric data.

6. The indicators ‘1’ and ‘2’ will change to blue to indicate that the fingerprint was successfully captured. Click Next to proceed.

7. Create your boot key password in the next window to serve as backup access for your fingerprint biometric data.

8. Click Enable to activate using your current fingerprint biometric data for system log on.

9. The ASUS FingerPrint settings window appears next. You may either close this window or change the settings of your fingerprint biometric data.

Restart your Notebook PC then press the `f2` key during the Power-On Self-Test (POST) to access the BIOS setup utility.

1. On the Boot screen in the BIOS setup, select Boot Option #1.

2. Press `enter` and select a device as the Boot Option #1.

To set the password:

1. On the Security screen, select Administrator Password or User Password.

2. Type in a password then press `enter`.

3. Re-type to confirm the password then press `enter`.

To clear the password:

1. On the Security screen, select Administrator Password or User Password.

2. Type in the current password then press `enter`.

3. Leave the Create New Password field blank then press `enter`.

4. Select Yes in the confirmation box then press `enter`.

1. Verify the Notebook PC’s exact model then download the latest BIOS file for your model.

2. Save a copy of the downloaded BIOS file to a flash disk drive.

3. Connect your flash disk drive to your Notebook PC.

4. Restart your Notebook PC then press `f2` during POST to enter BIOS.

5. From the BIOS menu, Select Advanced > Start Easy Flash, then press `enter`.

6. Locate your downloaded BIOS file in the flash disk drive then press `enter` to start the update process.

7. After the BIOS update process, select Exit > Restore Defaults to restore the system to its default settings.

Windows® 10 allows you to do any of the following recovery options:

• Keep my files: This option allows you to refresh your Notebook PC without affecting personal files (photos, music, videos, documents). Using this option, you can restore your Notebook PC to its default settings and delete other installed apps.

• Remove everything: This option resets your Notebook PC to its factory settings. You must back up your data before doing this option.

• Go back to an earlier build: This option allows you to go back to an earlier build. Use this option if this build is not working for you.

• Advanced startup: This option allows you to perform other advanced recovery options such as using a USB drive or recovery DVD to startup, or using Troubleshoot for System Restore, System Image Recovery, and more.

Refer to the following steps to access and use any of the available recovery options:

1. Launch Settings and select Update and security.

2. Under the Update and security option, select Recovery then select the recovery option you would like to perform.

To help you maximize the use of your Notebook PC, maintain its system performance, and ensure all your data is kept secured, here are some useful tips:

• Update Windows® periodically to ensure that your applications have the latest security settings.

• Use an anti-virus software to protect your data and keep this updated too.

• Unless absolutely necessary, refrain from using force shutdown to turn off your Notebook PC.

• Always back up your data and make it a point to create a backup in an external storage drive.

• Refrain from using the Notebook PC at extremely high temperatures. If you are not going to use your Notebook PC for a long period of time (at least a month), we recommend that you take out the battery if the battery is removable.

• Disconnect all external devices and ensure you have the following items prior to resetting your Notebook PC: Product key for your operating systems and other installed applications, backup data, log in ID and password, and internet connection information.

Although these dots normally appear onscreen, they will not affect your system. If the incident continues and subsequently affects system performance, consult an authorized service center.

The color and brightness of your display panel may be affected by the angle and current position of your Notebook PC. You may use the function keys (`fn + f5/f6`) or the display settings in your operating system to adjust the appearance of your display panel.

You can try any of the following suggestions:

• Use the function keys to adjust the display brightness.

• If you are not using any Wi-Fi connection, switch your system into Airplane mode.

• Disconnect unused USB devices.

• Close unused applications, especially those that take up too much system memory.

• Check whether the power adapter or battery pack is attached correctly. You may also disconnect the power adapter or battery pack, wait for a minute, then reconnect them again to the power outlet and Notebook PC.

• If the problem still exists, contact your local service center for assistance.

Press `fn + f9` to enable your touchpad.

You can try doing any of the following suggestions:

• Press `fn + f12` to turn up the speaker volume.

• Check if your speakers were set to mute by pressing `fn + f10`.

• Check if a headphone jack is connected to your Notebook PC and remove it.

Make sure that nothing accidentally touches or presses on your touchpad while you type on the keyboard. You can also disable your touchpad by pressing `fn + f9`.

Press the `num lk` key or `fn + num lk` (on selected models) on your Notebook PC to turn off this feature and use the said keys for inputting letters.

You can try doing any of the following suggestions:

• Force shutdown your Notebook PC by pressing the power button for at least four (4) seconds. Check if the power adapter and battery pack are inserted correctly then turn on your Notebook PC.

• If the problem still exists, contact your local service center for assistance.

You can try doing any of the following suggestions:

• Remove all connected USB devices then restart your Notebook PC.

• Remove any optical discs that are left inside the optical drive then restart.

• If the problem still exists, your Notebook PC might have a memory storage problem. Contact your local service center for assistance.

Delete the applications you recently installed or were not included with your operating system package then restart your system.

You can try doing any of the following suggestions:

• Remove all connected devices to your Notebook PC then restart your system.

• If the problem still exists, contact your local service center for assistance.

• You need to press the power button to resume your last working state.

• Your system might have completely used up its battery power. Connect the power adapter to your Notebook PC and connect to a power outlet then press the power button.
